A/N: Thanks for the review Guest 2.0 I appreciate it! Okay, onto the story. This is a kind of fluff chapter but I loved writing it! There will be some time jumps moving forward to get to some episodes that focus more on the angel storyline and Lyanna's involvement. Enjoy!

Chapter 6: The Story Of Us

It had been over a month since the angels came for Anna, and the trio had been working case after case at Dean's insistence. Sam and Lyanna thought it was because he felt guilty about what he had admitted about his time in hell, but Dean disagreed, he just said they needed to keep working and searching. Lyanna had managed to convince the boys to take a short break and head back to Bobby's, she wanted to research the lead Anna had given her about the Inviere witches and she knew Bobby would have the most information to do this, so they had just arrived back at the Singer household.

"Welcome back." Bobby said as he let the group into the house and handed them all a beer, "Lya, I pulled out some books that might be helpful, they're in the study." he added

"Thanks, Bobby." Lyanna smiled giving the older man a tight hug "Always my stalwart." she whispered as she let go of Bobby and took a seat in the kitchen

"This is just a pit stop." Dean explained, "Catch our breath for a minute, maybe you can find us a case while we're here?" he asked glancing at Bobby

Bobby nodded "I'm sure I can find something." he said, "How're you holdin' up?" he added

"I'm fine." Dean lied, "It's these two who needed the break." he said with a laugh motioning to Sam and Lyanna who were laughing about something in the kitchen

"Some things never change, huh?" Bobby remarked, noticing how easily Sam and Lyanna had returned to their childhood friendship, Dean just smiled and nodded.

Lyanna finished her beer, leaving the empty on the table as she stood up and headed for the study. This had always been her favorite room of Bobby's house, it was filled with history and lore and stories, all her favorite things in this world, she jumped when a hand squeezed her shoulder, pulling her out of her thoughts "Geeze!" she squealed as she turned around and hit Dean's chest, "Don't sneak up on a girl like that!" she laughed

Dean chuckled "I was just gonna ask if you wanted help." he replied, "What?" he asked when he noticed the look on Lyanna's face

"Dean Winchester wants to help with research?" Lyanna asked, her eyebrow raised, "Are we in an alternate reality?" she teased

Dean rolled his eyes, "Do you want help or not?" he said

"Yes." Lyanna nodded, "I do, thank you." she added, handing Dean one of the books Bobby had set aside, "Start with this one, look for anything with Inviere, Romanian witches, gypsies…"

Dean nodded as he sat down across from Lyanna, watching as she went into full on research mode, her fingers following the text across the page as she mouthed what she was reading, this caused Dean to snort

"What?" Lyanna frowned as she glanced up at him

"You still do that huh?" Dean commented, mocking her earlier stance placing his fingers on his book and mouthing the text

Lyanna felt her cheek flush and she was glad the room wasn't well lit, "I-I don't even realize I'm doing that.." she muttered, embarrassment flashing across her eyes

Dean let out a small chuckle, but quickly cleared his throat, as he shook his head "I'm sorry." he said, "I just think it's cute, thought it back then, still think it is now." he said with a smirk

Lyanna gave Dean a smirk, "We're never gonna get anything done if you start flirting with me Winchester." she said, tossing a crumpled up piece of paper at Dean's shoulder before resuming her research.

Dean didn't reply but he started reading, over the last few weeks any resolve he had for letting Lyanna back in had faded away, truthfully it was comforting to have her back in his life, and he was starting feel some of those old feelings for her bubbling to the surface, but he needed her to be available and unfortunately that sparkling silver ring on her finger was a constant reminder that she wasn't.

"Hey, I think I found something!" Lyanna grinned as she grabbed a pen and paper scribbling down the passage of text she'd just read, "The Inviere's, a family of Romanian witches that rose to prominence in the middle ages, known for their ability of resurrection and immortality. It is said that although they rose to fame during the middle ages their lineage can be traced back to biblical times, in 1446, many of the witches relocated to Moldavia where they settled for the next few hundred years, by the 1800's most of the original bloodline had dispersed the area and relocated to the United Kingdoms. It is unknown if the bloodline survived."

Dean scratched his head as he thought for a minute "So, the bloodline is gone?" he asked

Lyanna sighed, "I don't know. I guess I'd have to look into families in the UK circa 1800's." she frowned, "Man, I was really hoping there was at least one left that I could contact. That might have answers." she said

"Well, we'll keep looking." Dean shrugged, then he glanced at the clock that read 2:08am, "But maybe tomorrow, we should get some sleep." he said, "C'mon, kid, I'll walk you to your room." he smiled, turning the light off and slinging his arm around Lyanna's shoulder as he walked her up to her room and said goodnight.

The sunlight filtered into Lyanna's room, the warmth and brightness pulling her from her pleasant slumber, she stretched as she sat up in her bed. She glanced around the room, it was the same room she'd used when she was younger and would have to stay at Bobby's for extended visits while her mom worked on cases, but most of her decor that she'd put up over the years still remained, Bobby must not have wanted to change it, and she was kind of glad he hadn't, because it made her feel safe still having a place that was somewhere she could call home, no matter how many years had passed.

Lyanna decided a shower was long overdue so she grabbed a towel and made her way to the bathroom. The house was still quiet so she figured she was the only one awake, the warm water washed over her letting the stress of the last few weeks melt away. She was struggling internally, she was caught between her life with Jake, and her life with the Winchesters, and if she was being completely honest with herself, she knew she'd pick Sam and Dean every damn time, those boys were everything to her and she was suddenly very aware that she had to make a decision, she couldn't continue living with one foot in the supernatural world and one foot out. She'd have to pick between Jake or Dean. Somehow when she'd decided to come back to Sioux Falls a few months ago she knew that would be a decision she'd have to make, she just didn't think it would be such a hard one.

Lyanna got out of the shower and quickly walked back to her bedroom, locking the door behind her as she let her towel fall to her feet. She pulled on a pair of underwear and some track pants, deciding to skip the bra today she settled on a black Rush t-shirt she'd gotten in her teens, as she went to adjust the shirt she felt her engagement ring slip off her finger and drop to the floor "Shit." she mumbled as she glanced down at her feet, frowning when she couldn't see the silver ring, she sighed getting down on her hands and knees and looking under the bed, out of the corner of her eye she saw a shimmer and she stuck her hand further under the bed grabbing the ring, but as she was about to pull her hand out it brushed against something, she furrowed her brows when she pulled the ring and the mystery item out from under the bed.

Lyanna's eyes went wide when she realized what she was holding and she let out a small giggle. It was a worn out photo, it's edges were tattered and the color faded, but it was a memory that was priceless to Lyanna. She flipped the photo over and read the description written in her bubbly teenage writing 'Feb 14th 2001 Dean and I' then she noticed someone else's writing below hers, she recognized it as Dean's 'Angel saves Buffy, haha'. Lyanna had almost forgotten about that night, she wondered if Dean had as well.

Feb 12th 2001 3:45pm

Lyanna rushed out of the Impala as she ran up the steps into Bobby's house. She was on an extended visit so she could finish out the school year while her mom worked on a case a few states away, the Winchester boys were also staying for a few months so Sam could finish his last semester of school.

"Bobby!" Lyanna shouted excitedly as she found the hunter sitting in the kitchen "We have to go to the mall! I need a dress, I need shoes, I need-"

"What in the world has got you so riled up?" Bobby asked with a laugh, glancing at Sam and Dean as they entered the kitchen, both boys smirking and laughing

"Lya got a date to the Valentines dance on Friday." Sam explained

Lyanna nodded and grinned "David Jenkins!" she swooned, "He's so cute and he's a senior!" she said, "Can we please go like right now?" she asked, "Please, Bobby, please?" she begged

Bobby looked at the boys for help and frowned when Sam suddenly disappeared to his room and Dean held his hands up, "I'm way past the shopping with teenage girls stage, Bobby." he chuckled as he went into the living room to watch TV

Bobby sighed "Alright, let's go, just lemme get my keys." he said, letting out a grunt when two arms wrapped around his torso

"Thank you Bobby!" Lyanna said, "You're the best Uncle ever!"

Bobby smiled as he patted the top of Lyanna's head and followed her out of the house, "I'll grab dinner on the way back." he said to Dean before closing the door.

It was a few hours later when the pair returned home and Lyanna immediately went up to her room to put her dress, shoes and jewelry away that she'd got.

"How was the mall?" Dean asked Bobby with a smirk

"I hate teenagers." Bobby shuddered "So many girls and dresses." he sighed, "But Lya said she got the perfect dress. I've never seen the girl so damn happy." he said

"Sally got all excited like that too when I asked her." Sam said shaking his head "I guess it's a girl thing." he shrugged digging into the pizza that Bobby brought home

"Lyanna get down here and have some dinner!" Bobby hollered

Feb 14th 2001 7:35pm

It was the night of Lyanna's big dance and she had spent the better part of the afternoon getting ready. She was so in love with her dress, which was heavily inspired by Buffy Summer's dress in season 1 of the tv show, which happened to be Lyanna's favorite show since she was thirteen. It was a white dress with a sweetheart neckline and an empire waist, and small straps, the skirt was a flowy lace material that cascaded down just barely touching the ground. She'd paired it with white heels that strapped up at the ankle and a silver cross hanging on her neck, her hair was up in a simple but elegant ponytail with strands of her hair loosely curled and framing her face.

Lyanna glanced at the clock, David had said he would be here to pick her up at 8pm. Her stomach was in knots and butterflies at the same time, she just hoped she looked pretty enough to be going to the dance with someone as popular as David. She adjusted her dress as she stepped out of her room and made her way to the staircase, "I'm ready." she called down the stairs, she had promised Bobby, Dean and Sam they could see her all dolled up before David arrived. Lyanna gracefully made her way down the stairs and entered the living room where the three most important men of her life were sitting "Well?" she asked, doing a little spin

Bobby's face lit up like a little boy when he saw how beautiful Lyanna looked standing in front of him "Well, when did you grow up into such a pretty little lady?" he said, standing up and planting a kiss on top of her head

Sam who was already in his dress suit grinned and nodded "You look perfect, David's a lucky guy." he smiled, nudging her as he went to the kitchen to give Sally a call that he'd be on his way to get her soon

Dean was staring with his mouth slightly agape, he couldn't believe this was the same girl that a week ago was running around the backyard with Sammy in her rain boots and oversized raincoat splashing around in the mud. He hadn't realized just how much Lyanna had grown up in the last couple of years, "You look beautiful, Buffy." he winked, well aware of who her style was inspired by tonight "Knock 'em dead tonight, kiddo." he added

It was 8:15 and Lyanna was pacing in front of the door, her heart pounding so loud she was sure everyone else could hear it.

"He's probably just running late, sweetie." Bobby tried, as the girl frowned and shook her head

"No, he's always on time." Lyanna frowned, "Maybe something bad happened." she said, glancing up at the stairs as Sam came walking down

"He's still not here?" Sam asked, glancing at his watch "I was just gonna go get Sally." he said

"Yeah, you should go." Lyanna smiled, "I'm sure he's just-just running late." she added unconvincingly

"I'll wait a few more minutes." Sam shrugged, leaning against the stairs

By 8:45 Lyanna had given up hope. This had obviously been some kind of cruel prank, she knew she shouldn't have gotten so excited. David Jenkins was the most popular boy in school, why on earth would he ask her. Around 8:30 she had told Sam to go get Sally and have a good time, and by 8:45 she was in her room crying her eyes out and taking out her hair

Bobby tapped on the door and pushed it open, "You okay, sweetie?" he asked, frowning slightly when he saw Lyanna's blue eyes brimming with tears

Lyanna sat down on her bed and started crying into her hands, "Bobby, this is horrible." she croaked, "I knew it was too good to be true. I'm a loser at school, the weird witch girl." she frowned, "But-But I thought maybe-maybe this one time… I might get y'know that-that fairytale highschool night…" she sobbed into Bobby's chest

Dean had been heading downstairs to get something to eat when he heard Lyanna crying to Bobby in her room. That dick, David Jenkins, making Lyanna fall apart like this, all for a stupid high school prank. He'd forgotten how mean high school boys can be. Dean turned around and went back to his room, grabbing a poorly wrapped box from his closet. He set it on his bed and grabbed a dark dress shirt from his closet and changed out of the t-shirt he was wearing. He grabbed his leather jacket and slipped it on, before grabbing the box on his bed and heading to Lyanna's room.

Dean cleared his throat as he knocked on Lyanna's door "Can I come in?" he asked

Lyanna wiped her tears away quickly and tucked her hair behind her ears

"I'm gonna make some tea if you want some." Bobby said to Lyanna as he kissed the top of her head, and turned to make his way out of her room. He gave Dean a knowing smile when he noticed the older Winchester was dressed more formally than his usual attire "Your Daddy would be proud of you." he whispered, patting Dean's shoulder as he left Lyanna's room

"What's up, Dean?" Lyanna asked quietly, her voice still hoarse from crying

Dean gave her a little smirk, "Well I was saving this for you birthday, but I thought it might come in handy tonight." he said, holding up the present and giving it to her

Lyanna gave Dean a thoughtful look, "Why?" she asked as she opened the box, which revealed a black leather jacket that she'd been eyeing a few weeks ago at the mall "Oh Dean, it's perfect! I love it." she smiled, "But I-I'm not going tonight, the stupid ass stood me up." she sighed

Dean gave a little chuckle, "Ah, that's where you're mistaken. You are going tonight" he said, holding his arm out, "Tonight, Angel will save Buffy from the hellmouth that is high school dances." he smirked, Lyanna had made him watch most of Buffy with her, so he unfortunately knew all the characters and episodes

Lyanna's face lit up with happiness, her blue eyes shining with something Dean couldn't quite place, and she wrapped her arms around Dean "Thank you, Dean!" she whispered, "You're my hero." she laughed, pulling away from him and slipping on her new leather jacket "What do you think?" she asked, giving him a twirl

"Perfectly badass." Dean grinned as he led her down the stairs and into the Impala.

When the couple got to the dance Lyanna was ecstatic, not only did she look badass but she had a hot, older guy on her arm, who happened to be one of her best friends, and the look on David Jenkin's face when noticed Lyanna showed up anyways and with a mystery guy was priceless. Dean and Lyanna joined Sam and Sally and had a great night of dancing and hanging out, it was one of the most normal nights the three of them had ever had, and it was one of Lyanna's best high school memories.

Lyanna pulled Dean to the area where there was a photographer taking pictures of all the happy normal kids

"One picture and I'll never call you mean again." Lyanna said, with puppy dog eyes

"Fine." Dean said, he was always planning on letting her get a picture of them, this was actually one of the best dates he'd been on, he was realizing just how amazing Lyanna was and he was starting to think he should act on it before some other stupid boy does and ends up breaking her heart. He couldn't handle trying to fix her broken heart, he would end up killing someone.

The photographer snapped a picture and it turned out perfect, Lyanna had her arms wrapped around Dean's waist and they looked like such a badass couple in their leather jackets, Lyanna's white dress and blonde hair was a sharp contrast to Dean's dark attire and darker hair, they were truly Buffy and Angel for one silly night. And just as they were about to leave the picture area, Dean leaned in and gently placed his lips on Lyanna's, catching her off guard as she moved her hands to Dean's chest, and for a moment she didn't kiss him back, and Dean worried he'd made the wrong move, however an instant later she wrapped her arms around Dean's neck and returned the kiss, the photographer gave laugh and snapped a picture for the young couple. That picture though, Lyanna never knew about because Dean had made sure to grab the copy from the photographer without her knowledge, it was something he would cherish for many years to come.

Present Day

"Lya, we gotta go!" Dean called up the stairs, watching as the blonde bounced down the stairs in dark jeans and a grey tank top "Bobby found us a case in Wyoming." he said

"Alright." Lyanna nodded, "I just wanna grab a few things from my car before we go." she smiled walking past Dean and out the front door

"Lya you dropped…" Dean started but she was already outside, he bent down and picked up the picture that had fallen out of her back pocket. He smiled when he recognized it, it was the Valentine's Day dance. He couldn't believe she still had it, he shoved it in his pocket as he went to say goodbye to Bobby and get Sam.

Lyanna popped open her trunk and dug around for a minute until she found an old tattered army duffel bag that she'd gotten second hand a million years ago. She unzipped the bag and let out a relieved sigh as she spotted that familiar black leather jacket, she slipped it on and zipped the bag back up, slamming the trunk closed.

It still fit almost perfect, although it was a little beat up from the constant years of her wearing it. Lyanna smiled as she made her way to the Impala where the boys were waiting. Dean approached her holding out the photo in his hand, "You dropped this." he said, noticing she was wearing the same black jacket from the picture, "You still look badass, Buffy." he winked, giving her a nudge as he got into the driver's seat of the car, he noticed Lyanna giving him a goofy smile as she slid into the backseat and tucked the picture into the inner pocket of her jacket. Dean glanced at his glove compartment and gave a little smirk, if anyone were to empty it and pull out the false bottom, there they'd find the picture the photographer snapped of Lyanna and Dean kissing that night. It had been there since 2001, even after every rebuild he'd done on Baby, and it would stay there until the day Dean Winchester died for good.
