A/N: Hello! Thanks for the review again Guest 2.0! Okay so here is where the story is going to change a little bit, most of the plot points of season 4 will still happen, they just may happen off screen as I find copying episodes a little time consuming and a little boring. There will be certain scene's still in place and repeated but most of this story moving forward will be dealing with Lyanna and how she falls into the events of season 4.

Chapter 7: Tell Me Why

It had been a month. A month of little answers and a million new questions. Lyanna was sitting on the bed of the motel room she was currently sharing with the Winchester brothers, her head was pounding and her mouth was dry, that familiar buzzing and humming was settling into her body again and she gasped as Castiel appeared in front of her.

"Are you alone?" Castiel asked as he approached Lyanna's bed

Lyanna gave a slight nod, "The boys are doing some intel." she said, "I opted to stay behind to do more research." she added, holding up the books beside her on the bed

"How much have they told you about?" Castiel questioned, tilting his head a bit as Lyanna rubbed her temples

"All of it." Lyanna replied a small sigh escaping her lips, "Why are you here?" she asked

"I'm here about you." Castiel said, "Alastair knew of you, Uriel wanted to use you, so does Zacheriah." he continued, his eyes never leaving Lyanna's "You are important." he added

Lyanna let out a frustrated groan, as she ran a hand through her hair "If I'm so damn important why does no one know what I am!?" she snapped, getting tired of hearing about how special she was, or how valuable her life was.

"I'm working on that." Castiel admitted, "I have a few ideas, but-well-I need…" he stumbled over the words, as if he wasn't sure what to say

"You need what, Castiel?" Lyanna asked standing to move closer to the angel

"Your soul." Castiel started, "If I can feel your soul it may help me figure out exactly what your purpose is." he sighed

"I'm sensing there's a but coming?" Lyanna said, her shoulders dropping as she looked to the ground

"It… it can be painful. You may lose consciousness...You may not wake up. Dean will be very angry." Castiel frowned

"Dean will get over it." Lyanna scoffed, "He's not my keeper." she said, "I give you permission." she whispered reluctantly

Castiel nodded, "I will be as quick as I can." he smiled, trying his best to seem comforting to Lyanna. He truly did like this girl, she was brave and willing to do what she had to, much like Dean Winchester, who he also had fond feelings for

Lyanna inhaled deeply as she laid down on the bed, she shut her eyes tight and gripped the bedsheets in anticipation for the pain.

Castiel took a quick glance around the room before he rolled up the sleeve of his trench coat and moved his hand towards Lyanna's chest. He hesitated for a minute, wondering if he really should go snooping inside her, he pushed the doubts away and plunged his hand into Lyanna's chest.

Lyanna felt nothing at first, then it was as if she was being prodded from the inside out with a searing hot fire poker, she bit her lip to try to muffle the screaming but it wasn't any use. The pain was blinding and she screamed out in agony, her body twitching and writhing underneath Castiel's hold.

The hotel door crashed open and Dean followed by Sam stormed into the room, Dean advancing on Castiel and throwing a left hook, "Get the hell away from her!" he shouted, as his fist connected with Castiel's face and the angel dropped to the ground

"I was trying to help her." Castiel's voice was steady as he remained on the ground, "She gave me permission." he added, his eyes hovering over Lyanna's unmoving body on the bed

Dean rolled his eyes, "Yeah it sure as hell looked like it." he scoffed, "What the hell did you do to her?" he growled, glancing at Sam who had rushed to Lyanna's side to check her vitals

"She's alive." Sam said quietly to Dean, "But her body feels like it's on fire." he frowned

Dean glared at Castiel, as the angel remained quiet, "What did you do to her?" he repeated, his voice was lower now, angier

Castiel sighed "I was searching her soul." he explained, "To find out what she is. She asked me to help. This was the only way I knew how." he said

"Searching her soul?" Dean repeated, his eyes full of skepticism, "Sure didn't look very peaceful to me. She was in pain, Cass! We could hear her screaming from the parking lot!"

"She will be fine." Castiel replied, as he stared at Lyanna "I know how to help her now." he added, before the flutter of wings could be heard and Castiel disappeared from the room

Sam blinked as he got to his feet and walked over to Dean who looked like he was about to punch the wall, "Maybe he really was helping." he said quietly

Dean turned and faced his brother, "Did that look like helping, Sam?" he snapped, "And then the god damn guy just leaves?" he frowned, then he sighed as he gently sat beside Lyanna on the bed, "What are we supposed to tell her when she wakes up?"

"The truth?" Sam suggested, "That Cass knows how to help her now, and-and that he'll probably be in touch.."

Dean rolled his eyes, "Yeah, cause those angels are so forthcoming with the communication." he said bitterly, gently brushing a few strands of hair out of Lyanna's face, "Why are you both so hell bent on destroying yourselves to find out your purpose." he sighed, turning to look at Sam

Sam shifted on his feet and shrugged, "We're all just trying to stop Lucifer, Dean." he said, "Besides I'm not destroying myself. I'm fine, I'm stronger, it's going to help us win this battle." he added, even though he knew that wasn't completely true, he was becoming addicted to the demon blood and he wasn't sure he'd be able to stop, even if he wanted too.

Lyanna could hear faint voices and she felt someone beside her. Dean. She could smell him, sandalwood aftershave, old leather with a hint of musk and whiskey. She pushed herself into an upright position as she rubbed her temples "Where's Castiel?" she asked.

As Lyanna positioned herself upright, Dean shifted his position slightly, his right hand on her shoulder and his left hand gently squeezing her knee, "Are you okay?" he asked concern evident in his voice

Lyanna nodded "I'm alright." she whispered, "Did-did it work? Does Castiel know what I am?"

Sam spoke this time, "He said he knew how to help you now." he offered, "But then he just.. Well, he disappeared." he added

Lyanna frowned at this "Of course he did." she said, she inhaled sharply as she tried to move off the bed, apparently her body was in worse shape than she'd thought

"Uh uh, you aren't going anywhere." Dean said firmly, "You realize an angel was just poking around inside you right?" he added. Lyanna, again tried to stand, however a sharp twist in her ribcage halted her movement, and she winced

"Dean I'm fine." Lyanna huffed, "Besides we've got a case to finish right?" she said

"And we can finish it in the morning." Sam replied, "I'll make you some tea and we'll call it a night, ok?"

Lyanna looked between the two brothers and let out a sigh, she knew there was no way she was going to be getting off this bed tonight, "Okay." she submitted, "But can you make that tea Irish?" she asked with a wry smile

Sam chuckled a little and nodded and busied himself preparing Lyanna's drink.

Dean let out a breath and got to his feet, "So Sam and I stumbled onto something… interesting." he said, opening the duffel bag Sam had brought in from the car and pulling out a book, tossing it to Lyanna, who caught it and raised an eyebrow as she read the title

"Supernatural?" Lyanna laughed, "What in the world is this?" she said, flipping the book over and reading the back, her mouth pulled into a perplexing smile "This is a book about you guys?"

Sam walked over to Lyanna handing her a warm cup of tea, "Apparently." he nodded, "We're gonna go see the author tomorrow. His name is Carver Edlund."

It was the next morning and although Lyanna was still in some pain, she was at least able to move around without a constant stab through her ribs, so she took that as a win. The trio had managed to find Carver Edlunds house and they were now standing inside the man's, who real name turned out to be Chuck Shurley, humble living room, where Chuck was monologuing about how he was a God because his creations had come to life and were now standing in his house

"It seems like you just focused on our lives." Sam explained

"Yeah, like laser focused." Dean scoffed, "Are you working on anything right now?" he asked

"Holy crap." Chuck sighed as he looked at the three of them

"What?" Lyanna frowned

Chuck grabbed the papers sitting next to his laptop, "The, uh, latest book. It's uh, kind of weird."

"Weird how?" Sam questioned

"It's very Vonnegut." Chuck replied

"Slaughterhouse-Five Vonnegut, or Cat's Cradle Vonnegut?" Dean asked, Sam and Lyanna shared a look of shock, neither of them thought those would be part of Dean's literary library

"What?" Sam and Lyanna said, looking at Dean

"What?" Dean frowned

"It's uh, Kilgore Trout Vonnegut." Chuck admitted "I wrote myself into it. I wrote myself at my house… confronted by my characters." he stammered

Lyanna sighed "Well this is gonna be fun." she mumbled, then a thought popped into her head, if this guy was writing this story, maybe he knew what she was "Hey, I have a question." she said, but before she could finish she was cut off by Chuck

"That chapter hasn't been written yet. I-I don't have all the details." Chuck said with an apologetic smile, "Sorry, Lyanna."

"Well it was worth a shot." Lyanna shrugged, "Is there anything useful you can tell us?"

Chuck inhaled sharply as he looked among the three of them, his eyes stopping on Dean "You especially. You're not gonna like this." he said

Dean gave Chuck a look, "I didn't like hell." he said

"It's Lilith. She's coming for Sam." Chuck sighed

"Coming to kill him?" Dean questioned

"When?" Sam asked

"Tonight." Chuck answered

Dean looked at his brother, and Lyanna, then back at Chuck, "She's just gonna show up? Here?"

Chuck sat down on the couch as he flipped through his pages, "See, its, uh.. "Lilith patted the bed seductively. Unable to deny his desire, Sam succumbed… and they sank into the throes of fiery demonic passion." he read

Sam let out a laugh as he looked between Dean and Chuck, "You're kidding me right?"

Dean shook his head "You think this is funny?" he asked

"You don't? I mean c'mon. "Fiery demonic passion?"..." Sam repeated

Chuck seemed a bit offended "It's just a first draft It's not-" he defended

"Wait, isn't Lilith a little girl?" Lyanna frowned, glancing at Chuck as he explained she was a woman from Indiana "Okay so what happens next then?" she asked

Chuck sighed, "I-I don't know, it hasn't come to me yet." he explained

Lyanna looked at the three men in front of her, "Okay, so here's what we do." she said, raising an eyebrow as Chuck held out his chapters for her, "Did you… know I was gonna.." she started as Chuck nodded, "Okay, well… let's just start with these and go from there." she stammered holding up the papers, and following the boys out of the house

"Lyanna!" Chuck called as she was about to exit the house, "Um, whatever Castiel tells you… it's not as-as final as it seems, there are loopholes, uh, failsafes." he stammered his eyes flicking over to Dean then back to Lyanna

Lyanna creased her brows, "I-I thought you said you didn't-"

"I don't, call it a theory, a hunch. Just, well, don't lose faith, okay?" Chuck said with a slight smile.

The rest of the day was spent figuring out what to do next, and it culminated with Sam and Dean having a fight in the motel room about Lilith, and Sam's journey to the possible dark side. Sam was staying to wait for Lilith and he'd made it clear he wasn't changing his mind. Lyanna followed Dean outside and frowned as he called for Castiel to help, she felt that hum and a pounding in her head and then Castiel was standing in front of them.

Dean begged with the angel, asking for his help, to which Castiel explained it wasn't within his power to do, that he couldn't interfere with divine prophecy, he apologized but that only seemed to make Dean angier and he told Castiel that when the time came that he needed Dean, needed Lyanna, or Sam not to bother knocking. This struck a chord with the angel, because he called Dean back and told him that the prophet, Chuck, was protected by an archangel, and that any threat, no matter how little or big would cause the archangel to wield its power and save Chuck. Dean understood, all he had to do was get Chuck to the motel room with Sam and Lilith and he would effectively be able to save Sam. "Thanks Cass." Dean said with a grateful smile "Good luck." Castiel replied a slight smirk gracing his lips

"Lya, come on we gotta go." Dean said, tugging on Lyanna's hand

"Wait." Lyanna said she had remained quiet through the whole exchange because she knew saving Sam was important, but she had questions "Cass, did it work?" she asked, her breath a bit shaky, "Do… do you know what I am?"

Castiel looked at Dean, and then back to Lyanna and gave a small nod, "I do." he said, "I don't have all of the details, but perhaps what I can tell you will be enough, for now." he added, "Lyanna you have faery grace."

Lyanna's mouth dropped, of all the things she'd been expecting to hear that was not one of them, "Faery grace?" she questioned "I'm a freaking faery?" she stammered

Castiel shook his head at this, "No." he replied, "You are, well, you are a halfling. A witch and a fae. Dark and light." he said, "That is all I know right now." he sighed, "I wish I could tell you more, but I can't." he added, he did know more but it wasn't his place to tell her yet, she would have to figure the rest out on her own, divine prophecy and all that, "Again, good luck." he smiled and then he was gone

Dean cleared his throat, "So you're a faery?" he said to Lyanna a smirk playing on his lips, "Well hell that explains a lot." he chuckled

"Oh, I'm glad you find this amusing." Lyanna snapped, her head was still spinning from the information, "Let's just go save Sam!" she said, making her way to the Impala.

The duo managed to get Chuck and get to the motel room in time to save Sam. Lilith expelled herself from the vessel before the archangel made its appearance. After dropping off Chuck and telling him they'd be in touch they all piled back in the car where Sam explained Lilith had offered him a deal, she would stop everything in exchange for Sam's death, one death to save six million, the boys mused on taking it or not and Sam shot Dean down claiming Lilith would have found a way to weasel out of it anyways. Then he explained that Lilith was scared, that she was running, from what though Sam couldn't figure out.

Dean glanced at his brother as he promised Lilith wouldn't survive the apocalypse and he cleared his throat, "Change of topic." he said, "So, Cass did manage to help Lya." he smirked, glancing at the rearview mirror to the blonde fidgeting in the backseat, "Apparently our little Miss Lyanna has faery grace pumping in her blood." he said, with a laugh

"You're a faery?" Sam asked incredulously his eyes wide and a smile playing on his lips

Lyanna pinched her nose and looked at the tall man, "No. I'm a halfling." she replied, "Witch and fae, light and dark." she muttered, "Whatever the hell that means." she sighed

Dean gripped the steering wheel, he wasn't sure what to do. Sam seemed to becoming more unhinged by the minute, and Lyanna seemed worried about this halfling information she'd been given, "Alright, well we know a little bit more now." he said, "Let's get back to Bobby's and see what he thinks the best plan is, plus Lya, maybe he can help you figure out more, now that you have something to go on." he added giving the girl a smile

"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea." Lyanna nodded, shifting forward and resting her head on the seat in front of her, her arm draped over Dean's shoulder, "We're gonna win this guys." she murmured sleepily

"Yeah, we will." Sam agreed, glancing at Dean who now only had one hand on the steering wheel, his other hand was intertwined with Lyanna's. Sam smiled at this gesture, happy to see that his brother was remembering what it was like to let people back into their lives, even with the threat of an apocalypse hanging over their heads.
