A/N: Hey guys! Glad you guys are enjoying this story! I'm very excited. I've written 2 chapters already for the season 6 part of this story, I got inspired and didn't want to lose my idea while I finished the rest of the story. My plan is about 10 or so chapters for each season, so we are almost on season 5.
Chapter 8: Everything Has Changed
Lyanna was sitting in the study with numerous books layed out in front of her and her laptop sitting off to the side. Ever since they came back to Bobby's two weeks ago she had been researching, reading, surfing, everything and anything she could to find out exactly what she might be needed for. Bobby had managed to figure out some things about the Inviere witches in her absence, like how the Romanian surname of all Inviere witches was Sumanar up until 1902, when the remaining family relocated to Ireland and changed their names to Summers to become more mainstreamed, he also found out that Vanessa had been an Inviere witch, making Lyanna one of the last of that bloodline.
This information was amazing, but terrifying for Lyanna, usually when you are the last of something this powerful you are valuable and coveted. She understood now why so many of the angels and demons wanted her.
"Hey are you gonna eat at all while you're here?" Bobby asked as he walked into the study with a glass of milk and a bowl of homemade stew and placed it on the only empty space on the table, "Lya, you gotta take a break." he sighed
"But I'm close, I can feel it" Lyanna said with a yawn
Bobby shook his head as he closed the laptop, "The answer isn't going anywhere." he said, "Eat something, get some sleep…" he shrugged, leaning over to sniff her, "Grab a shower." he teased
Lyanna let out a little laugh and nodded, "You're right." she replied, "Thanks, Bobby." she smiled as she started to eat
Sam tapped on the door frame of the study as he walked in holding Lyanna's cell phone, "It's be ringing off the hook for about an hour." he said, tossing it to her
Lyanna frowned when she saw there were about twenty missed calls, all from Jake, "Damn it." she mumbled as she got to her feet and made her way to the door
"Buffy!" Dean called, "Where are you going?" he asked as he stopped her by the front door, "You good?" he added, noticing she looked worried about something, well more worried than normal
"Jake." Lyanna replied holding up her phone, "I've been dodging his calls." she admitted
Dean smirked a bit, "Any particular reason why?" he asked, "Maybe, oh, I don't know, because of a charismatic, adorable old flame who just you just can't stay away from?" he teased
Lyanna rolled her eyes as she playfully batted Dean's chest, "Ha. Ha." she laughed, then she shook her head, "No, I-I don't want to pull him into all of this." she said, "He deserves better, than this, better than me." she added quietly
Dean placed his hand under Lyanna's chin and lifted it slowly, so their eyes met, "You were the best I ever had. He's lucky that he even gets a little part of you." he said, his voice was unusually soft, "That's always been your problem though, Lya, you never realize how amazing you really are." he added, kissing the top of her head.
Lyanna inhaled deeply as she breathed in Dean's scent, making her feel warm and tingly, and she didn't want to call Jake anymore, she just wanted to stay here like this, wrapped in Dean's arms. But she knew she couldn't, she was engaged and it was on her to at least try and make that work, for Jake's sake.
"I gotta call him before it gets too late." Lyanna sighed as she pulled away from Dean's chest, "Thank you though, you always know just what to say to me." she smiled as she walked outside.
Lyanna took a deep breath as she clicked Jake's number, she held the phone to her ear and waited, one ring. Two rings. Three rings. "Hello?"
"Hi, Hon, is everything alright?" Lyanna replied, "My phone was upstairs…"
"Lya, when are you coming home?" Jake asked, getting straight to the point
Lyanna sighed, "I-I don't know." she said honestly, "This… research is taking longer than I thought it would."
"It's been seven months, Lyanna! I miss you, I miss my fiance!" Jake exclaimed, "And you never call, for all I know you could've been dead in a ditch somewhere." he sighed "I want to see you."
Lyanna shut her eyes "I-I can't right now." she said, "I just need a few more months…" she stammered
"No, that's not gonna work." Jake replied, she could hear the frustration in his voice, "Y'know I've never even met this Uncle Bobby you're staying with… for all I know… you could be shacking up with old boyfriend I don't know about." he snapped, "I wanna come out and see you." he said, "And I'm not taking no for an answer, Lyanna."
Lyanna grimaced, this was not how she wanted this conversation to go, but she agreed, she had no choice; she made a commitment to Jake when she accepted that ring, and she had to do her best to honor it, "Lya? I guess that's a no?" Jake's voice asked through the phone
"No-it's not a no." Lyanna sighed, "Things are a bit hectic here at the moment, but-uh, why don't you come stay for a night, we'll have a nice dinner, you can meet Bobby, and-and the boys, okay?" Lyanna said
"The boys? Those guys who you were with in Washington? Your old boyfriend?" Jake's voice sounded hurt, and mad
"They stay with Bobby a lot too." Lyanna replied, "We're like a family, Jake, you'll see when you get here." she said
"Yeah. I guess I will." Jake sighed, "Send me the address, I'll be there tomorrow afternoon." he said
"Alright. I… love you." Lyanna said, the words didn't seem right anymore, and she knew why. The reason why was probably watching her from the window right now.
"Love you too." Jake replied, then there was a click as he hung up.
Lyanna let out a tired sigh and ran her fingers through her hair, that had been one of the most uncomfortable conversations she'd ever had, and tomorrow night was about to be even worse, she could feel it. No matter her reservations she had to follow through, so she walked back inside, smirking slightly when she saw Dean trying to be casual near the window, "Spying on me, Mr. Winchester?" she joked
Dean shook his head, "Just keeping an eye out." he replied, "You can never be to careful." he added
Lyanna just nodded, "Okay, c'mon I gotta talk to all you guys." she said, grabbing Dean's arm and dragging him into the kitchen where Sam and Bobby were, "So… we have to hang up the hunting for one night." she said, just spitting it out
"What?" Sam asked
"Well… Jake was getting… suspicious of me being out here for so long, so, he kind of-he's coming for a family dinner tomorrow night." Lyanna stammered
Bobby and Dean shared a look, "Family dinner?" Dean repeated
"Yeah-look it was the only way I could get him off my back for a bit." Lyanna frowned, "So we have one night. Uncle Bobby and his surrogate kids." she smiled, glancing at Bobby with her best puppy dog eyes
Bobby stared at the little blonde standing in front of him, then at the boys, "Balls!" he frowned, knowing they had to do this for Lyanna.
Lyanna tossed and turned all night so when the morning sun lit up her bedroom the next morning she groaned and buried her face back into her pillow. As much as she wanted to see Jake she was dreading this dinner, but she shoved the doubts to the back of her mind and got out of bed, getting dressed and ready for the day.
Bobby was sitting in the kitchen with Dean who had been staring at his coffee for twenty minutes "Everything alright?" he asked
Dean looked up at Bobby with an unreadable expression on his face "Sam's keeping something from me." he said, "He's been acting real shady lately and I can't figure out why, but-but a few weeks back he was out and I answered his phone, and it was Ruby." he explained, "I think it's something to do with her."
Bobby nodded slightly, "I get the same feeling." he said, "Look we'll deal with our Sam problem tomorrow. Today, well let's just try and act like normal people." he shrugged, "I mean none of us really know what that is… but the apocalypse will still be there tomorrow." he sighed
"Morning." Lyanna smiled as she bounced into the room, she was wearing a dress and heels and her hair was loosely braided and hanging down one side
"Well you clean up nice." Dean grinned, "Is this what Jake is used to you looking like?" he teased
Lyanna rolled her eyes and picked up a piece of bacon from the plate sitting on the counter, "I was a receptionist for his company when we met. This is how working girls dress." she shrugged
"Working girls huh?" Dean smirked, "They usually wear a little less, in my experience." he laughed
Lyanna let out a laugh, "You know what I meant." she said as her phone beeped, "He'll be here by 1." she added
Lyanna was sitting on the front steps, her heart was racing and she felt a little like she might throw up. She just kept telling herself it was just one night, she used to throw dinner parties weekly when she was out of the family business, she used to be good at this. Her head shot up as she heard a car pull into the driveway and she plastered on the biggest smile she could, getting to her feet she made her way towards Jake who had just stepped out of the car
"Jake!" Lyanna said wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him softly, "I've missed you."
Jake smiled a bit as he returned the kiss and stepped back, looking at Lyanna "You look beautiful." he said
"Thank you." Lyanna said, "Come on, I wanna introduce you to my boys." she smiled, taking Jake's hand and leading him into Bobby's house
"Guys?" Lyanna called as she looked around, then she spotted them sitting in the living room, "Guys, you remember Jake." she smiled as she glanced at the brothers, who both nodded and said hello, then she turned to Bobby, "Jake this is my Uncle Bobby." she beamed
Bobby got to his feet and cleared his throat, "Nice to finally meet you, Jake." he said, shaking his hand.
After the introductions where over they settled into casual conversation, as Lyanna busied herself in the kitchen, getting drinks and snacks for everyone while she kept an eye on dinner, she closed the door of the oven after checking on the roast and jumped when Dean appeared behind her, which caused him to chuckle, "You know for a hunter, you're awfully jumpy." he whispered
"I'd rather be on a hunt." Lyanna admitted, "My nerves are on high alert, and you shouldn't be in here." she said, pushing Dean towards the kitchen door
Dean frowned, "Why can't I be in here?" he asked, "Oh, wait, I get it. Jealous fiance in the next room." he teased, "Kind of makes this exciting." he smirked
Lyanna narrowed her eyes at Dean, "No." she said, "We are not doing this tonight." she frowned, "Dean, I-I need you to just, I don't know, forget that I exist for the night." she shrugged, "He already thinks I've run away to be with you, I don't need him thinking it's true." she said, "Because I'm not here with you. I'm with him. He is my fiance, Dean."
Dean stared at Lyanna for a minute then held his hands up, "Okay, alright." he said, "I'll keep my distance." he shrugged, "By the way, dinner smells great." he smiled as he left the room.
Lyanna let out a sigh as she leaned against the fridge, perhaps tonight was going to be harder than she thought.
"Lyanna are you in here?" Jake called as he walked into the kitchen
Lyanna smiled at him, "Hi Hon." she said, "How's everything going?" she asked
Jake nodded a bit, "They're good people." he said, although his eyes looked like there was something more he wanted to say, "What-what were you and Dean talking about in here?" he asked
There it is Lyanna thought, "What?" she asked as she turned to mix the gravy, "He was just asking if he could help." she lied
"Uh huh." Jake said, raising an eyebrow, "Look-I-I know you have a history with them-with him." he sighed, "And I love you, I trust you… I just have to ask, you being here for so long does it have anything to do with him?"
Lyanna let out a breath, closing her eyes for a minute and then opening them as she turned around "Absolutely not." she lied, "I told you. It's family stuff that is just taking longer than I thought it would." she smiled, "Go back in there and try to enjoy the company I'll be out in a bit." she said, kissing Jake's cheek before he left.
The rest of the afternoon and dinner had gone pretty well, minus a few close calls when Jake asked one too many questions, but Bobby was smart enough to use a misdirection to change the topic. Now the group was settled in the living room, chatting and having a few after dinner drinks. Lyanna was sitting beside Jake, her legs tucked up under her dress and her head resting on his shoulder, and Jake was in a conversation with Sam about some band they both liked.
Dean was staring again, as he was sure he had been most of the night. Lyanna looked so relaxed curled up next to Jake, and he wondered if she was ever that relaxed with him, or was their lifestyle a reason why they would never look like that?
Bobby cleared his throat and nudged Dean, "You're staring again." he whispered, "The kid already doesn't trust you stop making it obvious." he said his voice still low
Dean shrugged, "I was just observing." he replied, "I've stayed away from Lya all day." he said, "I-I don't think he's right for her. For this life, I mean, she thinks she's gonna get out, but c'mon Bobby, how many of us really ever get out?" he whispered, then he cleared his throat, "I'm gonna take a walk." he said as he got to his feet, his eye meet Lyanna's and she gave him a smile, "Goodnight, Lya." he smiled, "Night Jake." he added almost as an afterthought
"G'night man." Jake nodded, his eyes darting between Lyanna and Dean for a moment, before Sam pulled him back into the conversation.
Lyanna excused herself with the reason for tidying up the kitchen, but she slipped on her flats and grabbed a sweater as she snuck out the backdoor. She took a breath and rounded the side of the house, bumping right into Dean.
Dean smiled down at her, "What're you doing out here, Lya?" he asked
Lyanna was unsure of what to say, "Thank you, for today. You were really great, all of you were." she smiled, "I love Jake, I really do… but I'm gonna be happy when he goes back home, so we can get back to y'know, saving the world." she laughed, "I just wanted to talk to you for a bit, we couldn't really today, without… Jake overanalyzing every interaction." she snorted
Dean nodded, "I know this isn't what you're gonna wanna hear… but, Jake, he seems like a cool guy, but, this life, Lya, you know you can't walk away. You tried that, remember?" he frowned, "And look where you are. Right back at the beginning." he said, as he placed his hands on her shoulders, pulling Lyanna closer to him "You belong here, with us, Lya." he added quietly
Jake cleared his throat as he spotted Lyanna and Dean in an compromising position, "Lyanna, I was gonna head to bed…" he said
Lyanna quickly took a step away from Dean and nodded to Jake, "Okay." she smiled, then she turned to Dean, "Goodnight." she said. She wanted to stay with him, and not go with Jake, but there was nothing she could do, so she left, following Jake into the house and into her bedroom.
It was early the next morning as Lyanna walked Jake out to his car. Dean was watching from his bedroom window, she was hugging him and kissing him, and he felt so much jealousy coursing through his veins. He had also heard them last night, unfortunately the walls in this house were thin and even though he was sure Lyanna tried to be discreet, it wasn't any secret that two engaged people would want to have sex, especially after being away from each other for so long, but Dean just wished he didn't have to hear it.
Lyanna shut the door and let out a breath, it was over. She could get back to more important things, like learning about her purpose. She heard the stairs creak and she glanced up, smiling when she saw Dean, "Hey, you're up early." she commented
"Uh, yeah, didn't sleep a whole lot last night…" Dean shrugged, "Your bed creaking kept me up." he said with a chuckle
Lyanna flushed at this, "Oh my God." she mumbled, "I-We tried to be quiet…" she stammered
Dean just held his hand up, "Hey, I get it. He's your fiance, just maybe next time, do it somewhere I don't gotta hear it." he said as he made his way to the kitchen
Lyanna considered following him, but she decided against it, she wasn't in the head space to take on a jealous Dean right now, instead she went into the study, resuming her earlier research that she'd been doing before the whole Jake debacle happened. Lyanna was joined shortly by Bobby, who ended up working with her for the next few hours.
Bobby had been going through the same book for the last twenty minutes, when he grinned slightly, "Lya, I think I found something about the Inviere and Faes." he said, sliding the book to her and letting her read the passage, then he pulled up a webpage, "In 1507, there was a strange earthquake in a little town outside of Romanian, hundreds of people died and some of the townsfolk claimed witches had been there that they'd been doing a ritual anyways, a few hours before the earthquake struck a few of them said they saw one of the huts light up bright white and water was dripping from the hut and Water Iris's surrounded the place." he said, reading from the webpage, then he looked at the passage in the book, "It says here the Inviere were known to work with deity's in their rituals.." he added, then he grabbed another book, flipping open to the middle of the book, "And these, Lake Faeries, when they perform they're magic, white lights, puddles of water and Water Iris lie in its wake." Bobby read, "I think we know what kind of fae grace you're carrying." he said with a smile
Lyanna sucked in a breath, "I'm an Inviere witch and a lake faery." she said, "Well doesn't that make me unique." she scoffed, glancing at the information in front of her and calling Sam and Dean into the room to let them know what her and Bobby had discovered.
