A/N: Hi! We are now at the end of season 4! This has been so much fun to write! I have at least 2 more seasons worth of story to write, and may continue into season 7, or I may move some stuff around because I would like to explore Deanmon and Lyanna as I think it would be fun.
Thanks for sticking with this story! xoxo
Chapter 10: The Other Side of the Door
It had been three days since Sam walked out on Dean and in those three days Lyanna and Bobby had both tried to talk Dean into contacting Sam and trying to fix things, but after Lyanna had pushed a little too hard Dean had snapped on her and she ended up spending the rest of the day hiding in her room.
The rain was tapping on the window and it was lulling Lyanna into a peaceful state of a mind, something that she hadn't had as of late. She had been so focused on what was happening between Sam and Dean that she had almost forgotten the whole reason she had returned to Sioux Falls in the first place.
Lyanna was perched on her bed with a mug of tea in her hand and her laptop beside her, she had been doing more research into fae lore and had happened to stumble onto the realization that the fae's were very closely linked to angels, especially the water fae. Her stomach was starting to twist into knots as she continued to read the screen in front of her, if what she was reading was true, then she was going to prove to be an extremely important player if the apocalypse actually happened. It turns out her all fairy bloodlines came from The Otherworld, a place some consider an afterlife in paradise.
Lyanna pulled out an old tattered looking book from under her bed and flipped it open to a page she had earmarked. It was a record book with information about witch bloodlines and the species and supe's they often worked with, Bobby had found it a few weeks ago in one of his many storage units. Lyanna scanned the page while she sipped her tea and her eyes landed on a passage that was dated 1497, with the heading Inviere Witches,
Inviere witches; known for their ability to be resurrected also have a longstanding affiliation with the water faes known as Gwragedd. These two often work together in rituals to ensure the protection of mankind, first recorded date of this can be found as early as 1300 B.C, and a continued record can be found in the appendix of this book, generally evidence is found that there is a Gwragedd/Inviere alliance at least once every hundred years.
Lyanna bit her lip as she re read the passage a few times, and then she clicked through a few pages on her laptop. She let out a breath as she pieced together the information she had just read and she put her cup down on her night stand and headed downstairs to find Bobby.
"Bobby?" Lyanna called as she wandered into the kitchen, "Hey." she said, "So I found something."
Bobby's eye's landed on Lyanna as he looked up from the book he'd been reading, "Something about Sam?" he asked
Lyanna shook her head, "Something about me." she replied
Bobby closed the book and gave Lyanna his full attention, silently urging the girl to continue
"Okay, well, the Inviere's, they worked with a very specific type of fae for years, like I'm talking thousands of years, Bobby." Lyanna started, "Gwragedd, lake faeries. Anyways, all faery bloodlines come from Tylwyth Teg, uh, more commonly known as The Otherworld, but Gwragedd originated there. Every Gwragedd in existence is a direct descendant of Gwyn ap Nudd, or-or, Arwan the King of Tylwyth Teg." she stammered
Bobby's eyebrows rose as Lyanna finished speaking, "There's a faery king?" he asked
"Apparently. And Bobby, I think I might be related to him." Lyanna sighed
Bobby gave a small nod, "Well that would explain why so many of the angels and demons are interested in you." he said, "Okay, listen, until we know more, you don't say anything to anyone about this." he added, "If the wrong-thing-figures out what you are… well, let's not let it get to that ok?"
Lyanna nodded, "Shouldn't I tell-"
"Not even, Dean." Bobby frowned cutting Lyanna off, "Not yet. He's got the angels in his ear right now, and-and honestly who knows if we can trust 'em."
"Has he said anything to you about Sam?" Lyanna asked, changing the subject as she heard the front door open and close and Dean appeared in the doorway, holding a case of beer, "Is that a peace offering or a distraction?" she smiled looking at the oldest Winchester
Dean shrugged, "Both?" he said as he put the case down on the table and tossed a beer to Lyanna and Bobby "Look, I got something to say to both of you." he sighed, "I'm sick and tired of chasing Sam. He never wanted to be part of this family, so, screw him, he can do what he wants."
Bobby looked at Dean, his eyes filled with shock, "You don't mean that."
"Yes, I do, Bobby." Dean replied, "Sam's gone. He's gone. I'm not even sure if he's still my brother anymore…" he said, "If he ever was." he added, looking away from Bobby and Lyanna
Lyanna let out a scoff, "I didn't know John Winchester was joining us today." she muttered, angry that Dean seemed to be giving up on Sam so easily
Bobby let out a sigh and frowned at Dean as he took a step towards him, "You stupid, stupid son of a bitch!" his voice boomed, "Well, boohoo, I am so sorry your feelings are hurt, princess. Are you under the impression that family's supposed to make you feel good? Bake you an apple pie, maybe?" he snapped, causing Lyanna to hide a little smirk, "They're supposed to make you miserable! That's why they're family!" he yelled
Dean held his ground, "I told him, you walk out that door, don't come back! And he walked out anyway. That was his choice."
Bobby shook his head, "You sound like a whiny brat." he scolded
"No, he sounds like his dad." Lyanna chimed in, folding her arms across her chest as she watched Dean turn his back on her and Bobby
"Well let me tell you somethin'... your dad was a coward." Bobby said
Dean turned to Bobby with an indignant look on his face, "My dad was a lot of things Bobby, but a coward?"
"Yeah, a coward, Dean. He'd rather push Sam away than reach out to him!" Lyanna frowned as she moved closer to Dean, "You know better than anybody what John Winchester could really be like.." she said quietly, if Dean hadn't been standing right next to her he might not have heard her
Bobby nodded, "And that don't strike me as brave." he said, then his inhaled deeply, "You are a better man than your daddy ever was." he admitted, "So you do all of us a favor. Don't be him."
Dean gave Lyanna a sideways glance then he turned about to say something to Bobby, but as he did he noticed Bobby wasn't there anymore. He and Lyanna were standing in a room much fancier than Bobby Singer's kitchen.
"Hello, Dean. Lyanna." Castiel's voice spoke from behind them, "It's almost time." he said staring at Dean
"Why am I here?" Lyanna stammered, "I'm not part of this angel plan…" she said
Castiel looked at Lyanna and she could see that familiar doubt in his blue eyes, but he remained quiet then disappeared
"What the hell is going on, Dean?" Lyanna asked
"I don't know…" Dean replied, glancing around the room. An amused expression masked his face when he saw burgers and beer on the table next to them, then all of a sudden Castiel returned, only this time he had Zachariah with him.
"Hello, Dean." Zachariah said with a threatening smile
Dean looked between the two angels and let out a little laugh, "Well how about this. The suite life of Zach and Cass." he said. The two angels stared blankly at him, "It's a-nevermind." he sighed
"I got it." Lyanna whispered giving Dean a little smile
"So what is this? Where the hell are we?" Dean asked
"Call it a green room." Zachariah shrugged, "We're closing in on the grand finale here. Wanna keep you safe before showtime."
Dean raised an eyebrow, "I wanna know what the game plan is?"
Zachariah gave a little chuckle, "Let us worry about that, we want you focused, relaxed."
"Well I'm about to be pissed and leaving, so start talking, chuckles."
Zachariah sighed and shook his head, "All the seals have fallen except one. The final seal, it'll be different." he said, slapping Dean on the shoulder as he walked by him
"Why?" Dean asked narrowing his eyes on the angel
"Lilith has to break it. She's the only one who can." Zachariah explained, "Tomorrow night. Midnight."
"Where?"
Zachariah gave Dean a little smile, "We're working on that." he said, irritation flashed in his eyes when Dean told him to work harder, "We'll do our job. You just make sure you do yours."
"Yeah, and what is that, exactly? I'm supposed to be the one that stops her. How? With the knife?" Dean snapped
"All in good time." Zachariah replied, as he motioned for Castiel to approach Lyanna
"Isn't now a good time?" Dean countered
"Have faith." Zachariah sighed, he was growing tired of the chit chat and needed Dean to keep his end of the deal up, which is why Lyanna was summoned with Dean
"In you? Give me one good reason why I should?" Dean scoffed
Zachariah gave Dean a little smirk, "I'll give you two, one, because you swore your obedience, so obey." he started as Castiel slowly walked to stand beside Lyanna, "And two, I'll be keeping the girl until you do." he added staring at Lyanna
"Dean-no-don't let them take me!" Lyanna cried
"I'm sorry." Castiel murmured as he pulled Lyanna towards him and Zachariah and the three of them disappeared leaving Dean very much alone.
Lyanna shut her eyes tightly as she felt Castiel transport them to another room. When she opened them Castiel wasn't anywhere to be found but Zachariah was sitting in a chair across from the one Lyanna was strapped to.
"Castiel has been excluded from this part of the plan." Zachariah explained, "He was more or less there just so Dean wouldn't be so suspicious."
"Please let me go." Lyanna said, "I-I don't have anything to do with any of this!" she stammered
"Oh we both know that's not true." Zachariah replied as he got to his feet, "First, Dean will do anything to protect you, so I need you away from him, so that he plays his part." he said, "And second, you're not just a witch are you?" he smirked, "No, no ordinary witch would show up on the radar of almost every angel around, a few demons too, if the rumors are true. So what are you, Lyanna?"
"A witch." Lyanna replied, "And a hunter." she shrugged, ignoring the fact that he heart was pounding a million miles a minute and she had the feeling that Zachariah wasn't going to be satisfied with just 'talking' to find out his answer
Zachariah shook his head and took a step towards the blonde, "I'll ask again, what are you?" he said, "This is the last time I'm asking." he added, "Us angels have some very useful tools for getting the information we need from, less than willing… creatures.."
Lyanna swallowed and shook her head, "I don't know anything more than you guys do." she lied
Zachariah let out a sigh, "Ah, it's a shame you feel the need to lie to me, Lyanna." he tutted, "Now, Dean's going to be even more angry when I return you." he sighed, "Do tell him I did ask you nicely first?" he said with a little laugh as he uncovered a small table to Lyanna's left that was full of assorted blades and painful looking devices
"Tell him yourself you heartless bastard!" Lyanna snapped, watching as Zachariah picked up a small blade and brought it to Lyanna's cheek.
Lyanna tried to move her head away from Zachariah's hand but it wasn't any use; she was strapped into the chair by her arms and the top of her head was secured in place as well. She bit her lip in a effort to suppress the noise that escaped her mouth when Zachariah dug the blade into her cheek, drawing enough blood that it dripped onto Lyanna's shirt
"All you have to do is tell me, and this stops and I'll even send you back to your precious Winchester." Zachariah said, "Or.. we can see just how many ways I can make you bleed." his voice was full of malice as he moved the blade to her neck and Lyanna screamed in pain as Zachariah continued to inflict his torture.
Dean had been pacing the green room since Zach and Cass took Lyanna, and there was nothing he could do but wait. He didn't know why they took Lyanna but he could only hope that at least Castiel would keep her safe. He glanced down at his phone and decided to call Sam. When the call went to voicemail, he left a message, he was still angry but Sam was still his brother and despite it all he did love him and Sam was the only real family he had left.
A few minutes after Dean called Sam Castiel appeared in front of him, "You wanted to see me?" he asked
Dean nodded, "Where's Lyanna?" he asked
Castiel's eyes shifted as he considered his next words, "She was supposed to be in another waiting room with me, but Zachariah took her elsewhere."
"What?" Dean asked, "What do you mean Zachariah took her? What does he want with Lyanna?" he demanded
"I'm not sure. He's been interested in her… identity, for a while." Castiel replied
"And that doesn't seem strange to you, that he took her and purposely left you out." Dean frowned, "I want you to find her, and I want you to take us to Sam." he added
"No." Castiel said evenly
"No?" Dean scoffed, "Look, I need to talk to Sam, and I'm not leaving without Lyanna." he said, "Look I'll do whatever it is you mooks want me too, ok?" he sighed, "I just need five minutes."
"No." Castiel repeated
"What do you mean, "no"? Are you saying that I'm trapped here?" Dean questioned
"You can go wherever you want."
"Super. I wanna go see Sam." Dean tried, but somehow he knew Castiel wasn't going to give in
"Except there." Castiel sighed, he didn't understand Dean's persistence
Dean narrowed his eyes at the angel, "I wanna take a walk."
"Fine, I'll go with you." Castiel said without missing a beat
Dean got frustrated when Castiel answered him with a no again, "You know what, screw this noise, I'm outta here. I'll find Lyanna and Sam myself."
"Through what door?" Castiel said as the door in front of Dean vanished and Castiel did too
"Damn it." Dean grumbled as he realized he really was trapped.
Even though he hadn't shown it Castiel did question why Zachariah had hidden Lyanna from him, so to appease his doubt he focused and found where he had hid her. When Castiel entered the room his throat grew dry, strapped to a chair across the empty room was a very bloody and almost lifeless Lyanna. Dean had been right to be suspicious of Zachariah, it seemed the other angel had been keeping a secret agenda from Castiel and obviously Lyanna had something to do with it. He rushed to Lyanna's side and undid the straps that were keeping her trapped, she looked up under hooded eyes at him and for a minute fear flashed across her face.
Castiel felt a surge of guilt when he saw how frightened and beaten down Lyanna looked "I'm here to help you. I'll get you back to Dean." he smiled. This wasn't right, this was the work of a corrupted angel, Castiel was beginning to think maybe he was on the wrong side of the war. He helped Lyanna to her feet and tried to heal her, but whatever tools Zachariah had used must have been warded to prevent angel healing, or faery healing. Zachariah had figured out what Lyanna was. He had to get her out of here and back to Dean who could protect her. Would always protect her.
Dean was trying with no luck to break out of the green room, he frowned when the break he'd made in the wall fixed itself. "Damn it." he muttered
"Quit hurling feces like a howler monkey, would you?" Zachariah drolled as Dean turned around
"Let me out of here." Dean growled
"Like I told you, too dangerous out there. Demons on the prowl." Zachariah replied
"We've been getting our asses kicked all year and now you're sweating my safety? You're lying." Dean frowned, "I wanna see my brother. And Lyanna."
"That's ill advised." Zachariah said shaking his head
"What the hell's going on? Why can't I see Sam, and what the hell did you do with Lyanna?" Dean shouted
Zachariah sighed, "Look, you can't see Sam cause I need Lilith to break the last seal." he said, "We don't want to stop it, Dean. Never did. The end is nigh, the Apocalypse is coming, kiddo.." he smirked
"What was all that crap with the seals then? Why?" Dean frowned
"Had to tell the grunts on the ground something.." Zachariah shrugged, "This was a call from upper management, they wanted to be on the winning side, and our side will win, it'll be like, paradise on Earth, what's not to like about that?" he smiled
"What about Sam, he won't go quietly, he'll stop Lilith." Dean said, growing angier with this whole revelation
"Sam… has a part to play, he'll need a little nudging but I'll get him there." Zachariah shrugged, "You however, and Lyanna, have larger concerns. You're still vital, Dean, we weren't lying about your destiny, we just left out a few details. You are chosen. You will stop it."
"Which means?" Dean asked
"Lucifer. You and Lyanna are going to stop Lucifer. And you'll be rewarded, well at least one of you will." Zachariah chuckled
"Tell me something." Dean said, "Where's God in all this?"
"God? God has left the building." Zachariah replied with a smile, then he disappeared.
Castiel appeared a few minutes after Zachariah had left, with an injured and weak Lyanna in his arms, he passed her off to Dean as he made a cut on his arm and used his blood to draw a sigil
"Cass, what the hell happened to her?" Dean frowned as he slipped his arm around Lyanna's waist to keep her upright, "Lya, are you with me?" he said quietly, the girl didn't speak but gave him a slight nod
"Castiel!" Zachariah's voice boomed as he advanced on the other angel, "What the hell are you doing?"
Before Zachariah could do anything else Castiel slammed his hand onto the wall and banished Zachariah away from the room in a flash of light "We have to find Sam, Dean. I don't know where he is but I know who does." he said, "Lilith is the final seal, if she dies, the end begins!" he added, grabbing onto Dean and Lyanna as he zapped them to Chuck Shurley's house.
Chuck was surprised to see the three of them, as he hadn't seen this in his visions. He told them where they could find Sam and as soon as he did his house became under attack by an archangel. Castiel told Dean to take Lyanna and go to Sam, but not before trying once again to heal Lyanna, this time it worked a bit and she was at least able to walk on her own, "Thanks, Cass." Lyanna smiled
"Just stop Sam!" Castiel replied as he zapped Lyanna and Dean to St. Mary's Convent.
They were a minute too late and Ruby slammed the door on them. Dean frowned as he ran to the door and started slamming on it. Calling Sam's name loudly, hoping his brother would stop if he heard him. But it was all over in an instant and Sam killed Lilith and the doors flew open, letting Dean and Lyanna inside.
Once they were inside Ruby admitted she'd been playing Sam all along and needed him to kill Lilith so that Lucifer could rise. Sam's blood boiled with this realization and he snapped on Ruby, holding her still so that Dean could stab her, and the brothers did so in perfect sync. After Ruby was dead Sam dropped her body to the ground, and joined Lyanna and Dean as they watched in horror as the blood on the floor made a symbol and the ground started to shake. "I'm sorry." Sam sighed
"Sammy, Dean, c'mon, let's go!" Lyanna cried as she gripped onto the two brothers, the room became engulfed in a bright light and the Winchester's and the witch were stuck right in the middle of it.
