It had been a week, a week of silent treatment and barely speaking. She didn't have the energy to fight with him, she was still angry and felt betrayed by his actions. He tried to talk to her but she couldn't fathom what else he could possibly say. They were in limbo, she wasn't sure if she could trust him after learning he would be willing to die so easily and forget her and the children. She couldn't avoid him any longer as today she had a doctors appointment. They would discuss important details and how she would deliver.
"Meredith," Lexie said as she waved her hand in front of Meredith's face.
"Sorry, just thinking," Meredith shook her head.
"Anyway, baby shower," Lexie started.
"No. No baby shower. I know you think I need one but I don't have time. I have three kids at home that take up every single bit of free-time I have. CJ started soccer yesterday on top of the girls having dance classes. I have too much to think about," she said.
"Ok then let's talk about why Derek is telling Mark that you two are in a huge fight and he isn't sure you even want to be with him anymore," Lexie replied.
"Not that either, something else about you," Meredith shook her head as she stuffed the sandwich into her mouth. She was starving all the time, it was like the babies couldn't get enough to eat.
"We aren't just going to keep talking about me. I'm fine, baby is fine and thriving," she said.
"If I talk to you about the Derek thing, you are going to say I'm over reacting and to forgive him," Meredith replied.
"What happened? Come on, I won't tell you that," Lexie said.
"When the shooting happened, Amelia was the one the gunman was after and he found her. Well he had her held up, gun to her face and everything and apparently Derek saw and jumped into action. He told the guy to shoot him and leave his sister alone," Meredith's stomach twisted as she said the words.
"Is he insane? He has five kids, did he just expect you to not be mad?" She asked.
"He didn't even tell me. Amelia did," Meredith crunched on her apple.
"So are you mad he didn't tell you or mad that he did it?" Lexie asked.
"Both! He should have at least told me, yes I would be mad but that's not something you just never talk about," Meredith huffed.
"I get it, I'd be pissed at Mark if he did that but I'd also realize that is his baby sister. Especially since they both watched their father get gunned down by a stranger. I get why you are mad but you have to at least talk to him," Lexie offered.
"I know. I don't want to, I want to just stay mad. But we have kids," Meredith sighed. Her alarm on her phone started going off telling her it was time for her appointment.
"Gotta go, I'll send pics if they do an ultrasound," Meredith took her tray and threw away the trash. She walked to the OB department and opened the doors. She came to a halt when she saw Derek leaning against the nurses station, his sparkly eyes in full force and his charming smile as he spoke to none-other than Addison. She felt fury and rage, she wasn't sure if it was just hormones and the fact she was still pissed at him or if she was just seeing things.
"I'm here for my appointment," Meredith said loudly as she approached the pair.
"How are you feeling? Derek was just telling me how active the babies are and telling me about the kids," Addison smiled. She seemed innocent in that they were honestly speaking about that but she still couldn't shake that feeling of jealousy.
"Oh I'm doing wonderful. Other than the feet swelling, and I'm exhausted. Also gotta love my bladder being used as a punching bag," Meredith joked as she followed Addison. Derek didn't speak a word, it was like he knew she didn't want to speak to him.
"When I was pregnant with my son Henry, I think he actually practiced soccer on my bladder," Addison laughed.
"Oh you have a kid?" She asked.
"Yes, my miracle baby. It's a long story, we should all have lunch sometime so you guys can meet Jake," Addison said happily.
"We'd love that," Derek interjected.
"So we got some important subjects to cover today. Normally I let the mother's chose ,as long as the pregnancy is healthy, how they want to deliver. I was reading your chart and both of your children were delivered naturally I saw so it is really up to you. Some mother's chose Caesarian just because vaginal delivery with multiples is always tricky and more exhausting than singles," she said.
"I would like to try a vagina delivery for sure. No induction if possible," Meredith said.
"Absolutely. You are the mother and the ring leader of this delivery," Addison nodded.
"Now if I do have to have a Caesarian then I need to some prep time unless it is life or death situation," Meredith corrected.
"I usually give mother's a choice until life or death situations," she nodded, "now I will have an ultrasound pre-scheduled for 36 weeks just to insure both babies are head down. But if you don't have any more questions or concerns then I will see you next week."
"Nope, nothing has really happened. I get occasional Braxton Hicks, they are never consistent or painful," Meredith made sure she knew.
"That's completely normal as you probably know. That's just your uterus practicing for the real deal," Addison smiled before she left the room. Meredith stood up, she really wanted to ask him what the situation with Addison was but she didn't have the energy. She started her journey to her office and Derek was following her.
"Are you ever going to speak to me?" He asked as he followed her into her office.
"Depends," she shrugged.
"On what?"
"I mean every time we fight are you going to go flirt with your ex?" She said in a hushed tone.
"I was not flirting!" He gasped.
"You were doing the sparkly eye thing. Look Derek if you want to leave that's fine. Please do it before I get even more involved," Meredith said as she shook her head.
"I never said I was out! You're the one ignoring me and won't even speak to me," he began to raise his voice. She could tell he was mad.
"Do you not understand what you said was not ok? Did you not think it was going to effect me? When Amelia said that, I felt like I wasn't important. That our children weren't important," she began to have tears running down her face. She wanted to run, run as fast as she could. She was hurt and afraid. She just looked at him, no words leaving his mouth.
"I lost my husband. The man I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with. I didn't ask to fall completely and madly in love with another man. I told you I didn't want to love you if you were going to leave, you promised me you would be here for me," she couldn't hold back the tears any longer. She had finally told him how she was feeling.
"Meredith, I don't even know what to say. I'm sorry, it was a reaction. I watched my father getting shot and I couldn't see my baby sister being shot too. We may not see eye to eye on things but I still love her. It was irrational and irresponsible and I'm sorry," he said genuinely. She felt his words as if they were true. She knew deep down that it was just a reaction.
"I don't know Derek. Losing Charles was hard, but losing you would kill me," she sobbed. She hated how much she loved the man in front of her. She was always a strong independent woman but this man made her feel like she was vulnerable, with how much he loved her and she loved him. She felt a connection on some sort of other level for this man .
"I can't say how sorry I am and I can't say I wouldn't do it again but I swear to you that you mean everything to me," he had tears in his eyes and he wrapped her into his embrace. She felt safe in his arms, like nothing bad could ever happen as long as he was holding her. They stood there while she held on to him. She couldn't rationalize his actions but she couldn't stay mad at him either. She truly loved the man more than she had ever loved anyone.
"I don't know if you wanted to talk about it but I want to ask you something that has really been on my mind," he said in her ear. She pulled away, looking at him.
"What?"
"I know you want to keep looking at houses and everything but I want to build us a home. A place that is perfect for you and for me. Where there is enough room for our huge family," he said.
"I just wanted to find somewhere before the twins are born. They really don't have a place to sleep now," she said.
"They can stay in our room. The house will be done by next year. I have a plot of land here and I just want to show you," he said. Meredith had never been to said land of his.
"Ok, let's go now," she said.
"Really?" He asked.
"Yes. If I like it, we can build on it," she agreed. She didn't know why she was agreeing but she was. He took her hand and brought her to his car and helped her in. He started driving and they made it to the ferry dock's not to far from the hospital.
"Where are we going?"
"You'll see," he smiled as he drove his car to the loading deck. He got out and went to the top deck with her. The ferry began sailing as the got to the top.
"You know how much I love ferry boats. Just imagine this view every morning on your way to work," he smiled brightly. He looked like he was in pure joy.
"It is beautiful," she smiled. It took 20 minutes on the ferry to get to the island. As they docked, Derek took her to the car and they drove off the dock and took a little road to what seemed like a very private area. The woods covered the roads and it was nothing like downtown Seattle where buildings were at every turn. They turned down a little gravel driveway to a large open plot of land.
"This is it," he smiled as he turned the car off and went to open her door.
"It's a little woodsy," she said as she looked around.
"Just imagine, this is our kitchen," he jogged over to a spot that was facing the road, "and the living room right here. Like an open floor plan."
"Mhm," she followed his over as he pointed at the kids playroom that was beside the living room.
"And this, is our bedroom. If you look all the way over there, you can see the ferry's," his eyes were lit up like a child on Christmas morning.
"Did you pick this spot because you can see the ferry's?" She laughed.
"Maybe. So what do you say?" He smiled at her.
"It'll only be a year?" She looked around at the field.
"At most," he nodded.
"Ok, you can build us a house," she smiled and he ran to her and hugged her tightly. He placed a deep kiss against her lips, he was overjoyed. She couldn't help but get excited at his excitement.
"So where is our bedroom going to be?"she giggled in a low, sexy voice.
"Mhm?" He raised his brow, smirking at her. He took her hand and led her to the place in the land he had imagined the bedroom would be. He twirled her around, pulling her into his grasp. His ocean blue eyes turned dark in the Seattle sky. The sun had begun to set, you could see it over the water.
"It's getting late," he mumbled against her lips. She pressed hers against his, quickly feeling his tongue press against hers as their lips danced.
"Old fashion car sex?" She whispered against his lips. He chuckled slightly, wishing he could lift her and carry her to their car but instead he grabbed her hand, guiding her to their car. He sat down in the passenger seat, pulling her against him as she stood outside the car.
"Take me for a ride," she moaned deeply against his lips as she climbed in the best she could. Giggled erupted from the pair as Meredith soon realized there was a big problem.
"What?" He couldn't help but laugh along with her infectious laugh.
"I'm too big," she pouted. Her stomach touched his but her ass was barely on his knees.
"Let's go home," he shook his head laughing, he helped her the best he could climb off his lap. He got out and proceeded to go to the driver's side. He looked over at her, she was absolutely breathtaking and he couldn't believe she was all his.
