As Doctor Ivo Robotnik's armies begin the sweep the area, a large group of humans and Mobians are traveling across the now dead wasteland to get to Mobotropolis, one of the few safe places left. In the crowd an albatross was talking to a very annoyed hawk "Why not call it metalizing, or assimilation. I just don't get, why is it called robotization?" "Because it turns you into a ROBOT!". In another part a walrus was talking to a blue hedgehog "Sonic, where's Tails?" "He said something about making an evolutionary breakthrough". They then looked next to them and saw Tails jump off a small cliff "I'm flying!" he spun his tails, but he fell to the ground anyway "Some breakthrough". Suddenly an angry looking black hedgehog walked past them in the opposite direction, getting in people's way. One kid looked at him, but his father made him keep walking "Come on. If he wants to get killed let him".
In a tree on the road a small orange raccoon with an Australian accent is woken up by the noise "Okay, I'm up. Rise and shine everybody" she gets up and looks around the tree and realises she's the only one there. "Mum? Dad? Where are you? We're gonna miss the evacuation…" she gets out the tree and realises the road is now empty. "They left without me. They do this every year" she then gets very sad "Why? Doesn't anybody love me? Isn't there anyone who cares about Marine the Racoon?". A lilac cat with a jewel on her forehead walked past Marine and started walking quicker when she looked at her. Marine crosses her arms "Alright, I'll just go by myself" her stomach then rumbled "After I find food".
Not far away a pink hedgehog was setting a table that was in the middle of the road. A large purple cat placed two plates with chili dogs on the table making the hedgehog look excited "When Sonic sees this, he'll finally fall for me" the purple cat didn't look confident "Uh, I don't know Amy. I think he's already ahead of us". Amy crossed her arms "Mabey Big, but the moment he smells them he'll be running back" Big knew not to make Amy angry so he quickly headed in the direction of the rest of the travellers. "Food!" Marine suddenly ran up to the table and ate one of the chilli dogs to the shock of Amy. Marine looked happy and put one arm over Amy's shoulder while holding the other chilli dog "These are really good. You want one, mate?". Amy's growing rage kept her from answering so an oblivious Marine ate it herself, Amy looked psychotic "You ruined my date!". Marine's face suddenly turned to fear, and she began to back away from Amy "I'm sorry, it was my mistake" Amy pulled out a giant hammer causing Marine to run.
As she ran, she looked behind her to see that Amy was chasing her when she suddenly ran into the back of the black hedgehog who turned to look at her "Hey!". Marine then realised they were both near the edge of a cliff, she turned and saw that Amy stopped when she saw the black hedgehog. Marine ran behind him and shook his arm "Please don't let her kill me I want to live!" she begged but the hedgehog just looked irritated "Let go of me" he said before pushing her to the ground. She got back up and hid behind him annoying the hedgehog further "Look, if it's not her today, it's just somebody else tomorrow". Amy seemed to agree "Yeah, listen it'll just be one quick swing at the skull. You won't feel a thing. It's more than you deserve after ruining my date". This caught the black hedgehog's interest "Wait, you're gonna kill her over a ruined date?" Marine shook his arm again "Yeah, I just wanted food. I didn't know" "Shut up" the hedgehog interrupted. He rolled his eyes and looked at Amy "Aright if you can get past the sinkhole in front of you. Then you can have the raccoon" Amy looked down at the ground, she couldn't tell if it was a sink hole or not.
Marine jumped out from behind the black hedgehog looking smug "That's right sucker. Take one step and you're dead" she picked up a rock and threw it at the ground in front of Amy who grinned when it didn't sink. Marine looked shocked "You were bluffing, huh?" the black hedgehog sighed "Yeah. Yeah, that was a bluff" Marine hid back behind him as Amy charged. The black hedgehog walked forward and as Amy swung her hammer, he grabbed it and swung her away. Marine cheered but Amy got back up and lunged at them both, but the black hedgehog pulled out a green chaos emerald "Chaos control" he said. Everything around him suddenly slowed down and he turned Amy who was in mid-air around, so she flew off in a different direction. Marine ran forward and looked at her "Wahoo, we did it. We-" she tried to hug the black hedgehog, but she accidently pushed them both off the cliff and they rolled down to the bottom.
The two were now on the ground facing each other, Marine tried to stop the awkwardness "You have beautiful eyes" the black hedgehog stood up "Go away" he said before walking off. Marine started following him "Oh, come on We make a good team. We should head to…. Wait, Mobotropolis is that way" she pointed in the opposite direction of where they were walking. The black hedgehog rolled his eyes and continued "Thanks. The huge crowd heading in that direction didn't clue me in" "Well, see you I guess" Marine headed back to the cliff. She then saw Amy at the top of the cliff, she looked enraged "I'll break every bone IN YOUR BODY!" Marine immediately ran back and followed the black hedgehog.
"You know what? Mobotropolis is overrated, I mean the safety, laws, and roofs over your head. Who needs that?" the black hedgehog didn't respond. "I'm Marine by the way. And you are…?" The black hedgehog sighed "Shadow" Marine looked at him "Shadow? That's a terrible name, mate. You should change it. How about… Terios?". Shadow said nothing "Ok, well if your sticking with Shadow can I least call you Shads, or Shadsy or-" Shadow turned and grabbed the front of her shirt "Stop following me". He let go but she didn't stop "Ok I get it you have issues. You won't even know I'm here".
In a small camp next to a waterfall, a female rabbit carrying her baby daughter walked out of a tent. A male crocodile walked up to the two of them and put his hand affectionately on his daughter's head. He then stepped back, and the mother placed the young rabbit on the ground, she looked to her father and flapped her ears, but nothing happened. She eventually gave up and just slowly walked towards him, he then picked her up and hugged her. On a small cliff not far from the camp, two echidnas, Dimitri and Knuckles were watching the family "So what do you know?" the former asked. "This is the last group to go into Mobotropolis and that is the only kid. We take her, we get her parents to go into the city and take the chaos emerald. Then we are one step closer" the younger one replied. The Dimitri looked pleased "Well done, Knuckles. Tell the others, we attack at dawn. And Knuckles, remember we need it alive".
