Author's Notes: It wasn't me who started this; It was Cat Noir that started this on Quotev. Same author also created the OC's Xander (pronunciation: zan-dûr), Crystal, and Xena (pronunciation: zē-nû). Also, don't forget to follow, fav, and leave a review. This also contains some Zuma/Chase friendship, If you've been wondering.

Adventure Bay was buzzing as the holiday entered the atmosphere. It was Family Day, the second-busiest holiday, right behind Friendship Day. It's a holiday where people would celebrate their family and tell stories about their parents and siblings. Everyone likes it, except for one little pup who never met his family, and every year, he would keep making excuses to avoid telling about his great family, even if they are actually great.

They abandoned him as a pup, which they must have thought so low of them that they threw him onto Adventure Bay Beach, where Captain Turbot found him. He even named him after a Water Legend. Since he knew nothing about pup care, he gave Zuma to Ryder, where he became the 5th member of the PAW Patrol. Since the day he found him, the Captain thought it was coincidental that his eyes were golden, just like the legend instead of the usual brown for his breed. Ryder chose not to believe and blamed it on a rare recessive gene that randomly popped up.

5 years later, he was a successful water rescue pup. He truly enjoys the water that touches his paws when he stands by the shore. He always loved the water; he was nearly inseparable from it until he had to get his necessities from land, and to see Ryder and his friends. He chose to stay by the water today due to Family Day. He'd prefer to be where he was found, in the hopes of finding his family. Sadly, that never came true. Every year, he waited to see if his family appeared, even for a small cameo. As the sun slowly set on the horizon, the puppy let out a sigh.

"I guess I'll never know where I came from..." he whimpered, with another year wasted.

Zuma trotted off, looking back in the hopes of seeing his family by the water they left him trying to find their son they left behind, but he saw the clear and simple truth: They aren't coming, and they never will. He sighed, and ran towards the lookout where the others are telling stories about their families. Said families seem so interesting, and it seems like the best thing to have a family, for Zuma, at least. He'd do anything to have an actual family, anything. As he was walking in, the other pups all looked in his direction and started yapping and wagging their tails.

"Ugh, guys?!" Zuma looked amongst them, "What's so exciting? I just entered the lookout."

"We're gonna learn something about each other's families, including yours!" Skye grinned.

"I thought I told you I don't have a family?"

"I know. That's why we have a replacement," Chase grinned. "We got Captain Turbot to tell us the legend he and Ryder named you after."

"It's not family, Zuma trailed off, but then jumped in excitement. "But it's still cool!"

"We know!" said the other pups, also excited.

"Well, It seems as though the pup pack is ready for the super stupendous story I'm about to tell tonight."

"We are." The pups said as they went to their beds.

"Okay, this is the legend of the merpups Zuma and Xina (pronunciation: zē-nû)

"Hurry!" The chocolate labrador said to the silver Labrador. "I didn't think I'd beat the great and powerful Crystal today."

"Haha!" The silver Labrador, Crystal, said to the Chocolate labrador. "You'll never beat me, Xander (pronunciation: zan-dûr)

They quickly raced to Puplantis... Wait, no!

It couldn't be... It was a much bigger utopia for much bigger creatures. They swam past a bunch of mermaids and mermen, which were half-human and half-fish. They quickly ended up at the castle and went to the back room.

Xander and Crystal were more than just merpups; they were also guardians (NO, not those spiky, laser-shooting fish from minecraft!) In addition to fish tails, they also had back legs covered in scales like the ones on their tails. There were only 2 in existence, and they had a few simple rules to follow. They couldn't love nor mate, and cannot have puppies no matter what. Xander and Crystal chose to ignore those simple rules and had twins, something that never happened before. Both were born guardian, and they named the yellow one with a pink tail and navy blue stripe Xina. They named the chocolate one with an orange tail and a navy blue stripe Zuma.

After the pups were born, they had a few happy... seconds before the king found out and ordered to have the pups killed. They were going to be too powerful someday, and could destroy both halves of the entire universe together. Xander and Crystal refused, and quickly ran to hide them. The mother took the son, and the father took the daughter. Xena Xander-Crystal and Zuma Xander-Crystal were sent to hiding.

"Legend says that the parents were executed for treason afterwards, but the pups got away," Captain Turbot finished his story, "But no one knows where they grew up or if the universe is safe or not."

"Is - is that it?" Rocky broke the silence, wondering if the universe is safe or not.

"It's alright, pups," Ryder went to reassure them, "There's no such thing as Guardians."

"How old's the legend, Captain Turbot?" Rubble asked the captain, curious about his answer.

"I heard it the first time the day I found him and gave him to Ryder."

"Really?" the pups all asked in unison.

"You never told me on the day you found Zuma," looking as if it was fake.

"Believe me, I was suprised to find him only minutes after I heard the legend."

"Would guardians be able to turn other pups into guardians like merpups can?"

"No... Well, I don't know..." Turbot admitted, "because they are so rare."

"Or fake." Chase piped in. "I'm taking Ryder's side on this one."

"You always take Ryder's side, Chase!" Rocky frowned to him.

"Wait, quiet everyone!" Skye yelled, and everyone shut up and looked at her. "Where's Zuma?"

Unknown to the people and pups who have been arguing about the tale, Zuma snuck out during the beginning and was never a part of it. He ran to the water where he always felt safe, and began humming to a certain tune, feeling powerful as the water before his paws. He enjoyed it, especially during arguments among the team, which didn't really happen as much as people would think. He wagged his tail as the calming atmosphere surrounded him in his daydream. He let his eyes slowly close, feeling the cool breeze flow to his face like the salty waves by his feet. He began to hum a soft, beautiful song, As We Go Along, from a movie called Head, as the calming atmosphere soaked in around him.

"This is why you come here," Chase spoke up, making Zuma jump a little, "it's so calm."

"Uh, Chase," Zuma looked at him, "what are you doing here?"

"Just making sure you're alright," Chase looked at him, "you left pretty sudden when the argument began."

"I'm not the pup for confrontations," Zuma admitted, "especially about a legend Cap'n Turbot heard."

"Well, that makes a lot of sense," Chase nodded, "should've done that myself earlier."

"Yeah," Zuma said then looked at Chase who was looking at the water as if he saw something, "what's wrong?"

"It looks like the water is raising there, in that specific section," Chase said as he tilted his head, "or something really big is coming out of the water…"

"It almost looks like…" Zuma stared at the thing, then it go out of the water and began to head towards them, "a giant octopus! Run!"

The pups ran from the creature that emerged from the water, but the creature was pretty quick for how big it was. The pups split up to confuse the creature, but it's dark color made it a bit harder to see in the darkness. Very quickly, the monster grabbed at the pups, trying to grab the, both. It ended up catching up to Zuma, and it wrapped an iron grip around him with it's tentacle. Zuma quickly tried to wiggle out of it's grip, but it only tightened it's grip around the pups small body. When Zuma saw his escape was fruitless, he quickly began to call for help, which Chase heard and quickly turned to see Zuma captured. Chase tried to quickly think as if Zuma's life depended on it, which it did.

"Ryder, EMERGENCY!," Chase called Ryder, "Zuma's captured."

Ryder was sitting in the top of the Lookout playing on his pup pad. He quickly paused the game to simply check the time to see if the pups had to go to bed, but the picture of Chase's pup tag popped up on the screen to call Ryder. Ryder looked at it for a second before his reaction of answering it came. He touched the screen and a picture of a panicking Chase appeared on the screen.

"Chase," Ryder answered, "what's wrong?"

"A giant octopus came and tried to grab Zuma and I," Chase started, "but it succeeded to grab Zuma, and I think it broke his pup tag…"

"Do you have any of your gear?" Ryder asked as he began to get up.

"No," Chase answered, "I didn't really think I would need it…"

"Stay there, I'll send Marshall with your gear and the rest will be on their way."

"Thank you, Ryder," Chase smiled slightly as Ryder hung up and called the other pups.

"Pups! This emergency is too quick to have a mission briefing," Ryder started, "I need everyone to get in their gear and rigs. Marshall, I also need you to grab Chase's gear."

"Yes, Ryder," the pups all said and ran to get their gear.

As they were grabbing their gear, they all looked at each other for they knew it was quite the coincidence that Zuma was taken by a sea creature after they heard the story of Zuma and Xena, but they couldn't wonder too long. Zuma was in trouble, and they had to move quickly as they got to their vehicles and drove, Ryder driving in front of the pups, as he normally does.

They all got there while Chase was doing all that he possibly could do with what he had to try and save Zuma, but it was doing pretty bad at this point. Ryder and Marshall quickly got to Chase with his gear as the rest went to distract the huge octopus, which was looking pretty rough. It easily knock over the pups as if they were a cow in a tornado. As soon as Chase got on his gear, he aimed a net at the octopus and shot a net over it. The monster panicked and threw Zuma out into the bay as it tried to get off the net. Ryder saw that and quickly jumped onto his ATV as it changed into a jets ski as it went into the water. He checked the water, but Zuma was nowhere to be seen.

Ryder called for the pup, "Zuma," but there was no reply.
