A morning together

It's late but, happy birthday mayablanchefleur (from AO3)!

I hope you like it!

Tanjiro is used to waking up early.

It's no surprise really, as soon as he was old enough, he had been getting up to help his dad with his job, even if he told him he could sleep more, the young Kamado still helped.

This habit of getting up early was further reinforced after his father passed away and the job of selling charcoal passed to him; adding his training in Mt. Sagiri and his life as a Demon Slayer, getting up early was a habit that he can't break at this point, even if he wanted to.

And he certainly doesn't want to.

There are a few reasons why he thinks it's good to wake up early; he gets more hours of sunlight, for example.

But if someone were to ask him what the main reason was, is that he gets to see Kanao's sleeping face before going to work.

It has been three months since they officially got married and began living together; it took some getting used to at first but the two settled on a routine without much difficulty and things have been smooth ever since.

Tanjiro will admit he is not sure if it's a good thing but a lot of times when he is out to sell charcoal, his thoughts drift back to her, to wanting to hear his wife say 'welcome home' to him with that smile that immediately makes him want to hold her; there is nothing wrong with those thoughts in itself but when he starts thinking 'maybe I sold enough and can go back now' that is a different story.

"Ngh…"

His thoughts were interrupted when he heard Kanao stir in her sleep, her eyes slowly opening.

"Good morning." He whispered with a smile, his red orbs gazing into her purple ones.

"Good morning." She answered with a sleepy smile before moving forward and resting her head on his chest.

"Did you sleep well?" Tanjiro moved his arms to her back and pulled her closer.

"Yes, how about you?"

"Very well." He chuckled before kissing the top of her head. "I would ask if we could stay like this all day but I need to go to work."

"Yes… I know." Kanao tightened the hug for a moment before letting go.

The two got up and left the room to start their morning routine before going back to change.

Tanjiro folded up the futons while Kanao took out both of their clothes and set Tanjiro's down before starting to change.

He couldn't help but stare at her for a moment but shook his head to stop those thoughts.

'There is no way I'll get to work if we start something.' Tanjiro thought as he finished with the futons and started to change as well.

As he put his haori on he saw Kanao sitting in front of a mirror in their room, brushing her hair.

'She is so beautiful.' He gazed at her fondly for a few moments before walking towards her, kneeling and then extending his hand towards the brush she was holding. "May I?"

Kanao smiled and looked at him from the mirror before nodding and passing him the brush.

Carefully, he began to brush her hair, making sure to do it gently and to not hurt her and asking her if it did from time to time.

She always answered that it didn't hurt at all, making him smile with pride; after a few minutes, he finished his work and let her tie her butterfly ornament into her side ponytail.

"Do you want anything for breakfast?"

"To make it with you." Tanjiro quickly said, earning a giggle from his wife.

"Alright." She kissed his forehead and grabbed his hand. "Let's go."

He nodded, happily letting her lead the way to the kitchen.

After they finished eating, Tanjiro prepared the basket full of charcoal and secured it on his back.

"Well, I'm off."

"Take care." Kanao smiled sweetly.

Tanjiro hugged her and brought her closer before leaning forward.

Kanao met him halfway and the two kissed, holding each other close and, once they stopped the kiss, their foreheads touching.

"Is there anything I should buy while I'm in town?"

"I don't think so… but, if I find that we're missing something, I'll come down and buy it myself."

"Make sure to find me first." Tanjiro chuckled before giving her another kiss.

"I will." She smoothed out his haori and combed his hair back with her hands. "Have a safe trip."

With that, the two let go and Tanjiro began to walk down the mountain, waving at her until he couldn't see her anymore.

'I guess we'll see each other earlier than usual today.' He thought with a large smile.

This isn't the first time Kanao has said that she will go and buy anything they're missing herself, each time she says that, she comes down the mountain and meets with Tanjiro before the two do the red haired man's rounds together and then walk back to their home.

He knows that she is just using the 'we're missing something' as an excuse and he is pretty sure she knows that he knows but there is no need to say anything.

After all, as much as he loves to hear her welcome him home, he loves walking to their home holding her hand a lot more.

And done!

Phew, this is still late but not as late as I thought it would be.

I hope you liked it Maya and belated happy birthday!
