I did not intend for this story to be a Dawson bashing, I just wasn't aware that I really disliked Dawson as much as I did until I tried to describe him in writing and describe why I think he and Joey don't belong together. I hoping that I can make enough changes to the relationships to make it so he isn't so blahh to me.
Ava snuggled deeper into the blankets that surrounded her. She was starting to wake no matter how hard she clung to sleep. Sounds and smells filtered in, people up and moving around, the smell of pancakes, bacon, and coffee seeping into her nose drawing her further awake. As the fog of sleep cleared the memories started whirling across her eyes, like a movie playing on her eyelids she watched the life of the person she now was, thoughts, sounds, smells, feelings accompanying it all. She let the memories flow through her, going at their own pace, knowing that if she rushed them or tried to slow them down it would cause a headache. She was not going to be a new character this time no side or supporting role. Nope, this time she was going to be one of the main females, possible even the most main female. She was 15 years old Josephine Potter, and she was in Capeside Massachusetts for the show known as Dawson's Creek.
It was Friday and tomorrow was movie night at Dawson's which meant that Jen arrives on Sunday and sophomore year, the first day of high school starts on Monday. This had been a show that she had liked in general but truthfully a couple of the story lines were unnecessarily dramatic. The love triangles that were going to be coming were almost enough to stress Ava out. She knew that Joey had feeling, young, naïve, innocent, and currently unrequited feeling towards Dawson. Ava did not share those feelings, she had always been team Pacey. But then she also knows that the guy who played Pacey, Joshua Jackson ages really really well. Jen was welcome to Dawson and she planned to help her win him over completely. She also planned to pull away from Dawson and create a closer friendship with Jen.
Dawson and Joey always claimed to be so close and such good friends, yet Dawson had always seemed so selfish, self-centered, immature, and judgmental, besides how fun is it to be friends with someone who always has to be the victim or just the center of everyone's world. The friendship had always appeared to Ava more like a way for Dawson to be possessive of Joey, and while he didn't always want her, he didn't necessarily want anyone else to have her. While Joey hadn't been possessive with Dawson, except in his relationship with Jen, the relationship had felt more like a security blanket, worn to shreds by the end, but one that she clung to out of fear and comfort. Any time something went wrong Joey had gone running back to Dawson, and more than not it had created more problems in their lives then it helped. She would have to distance herself from him. It couldn't be immediate, she would have to move slowly, making excuses and reasons why she wasn't around as much. The sleepovers would have to stop, sooner rather than later.
The friendship with Jen on the other hand, Ava wanted to grow. They hadn't really been friends in the first or even second season of the show. Partially due to Joey's jealousy of Jen and Jen's worry that Dawson would realize that Joey likes him and dump her for Joey. And while they may have been closer to rivals than enemies, she wanted to remove that from the equation completely. Ava had a better understanding of Jen and the reason's she was there and how she had become who she is, and who she would ultimately become. Jen was going to need a friend until Jack arrived, and even after that.
She was excited about meeting Pacey and was impatient for him to grow up and be ready for a relationship with Joey. Without being in a relationship with Dawson he would have no reason to look after her to truly develop his feeling for her, and she didn't want to rob him the opportunity to experience the relationship with Andie. He truly was one of the top five boyfriends in the many tv shows, movies, and books, she had lived through. She would have to start slow to build the friendship between them, to then let the friendship grow into more over time. Joey was older than Pacey and yet he started driving before her. Ava already knew how to drive, but she could use that as an excuse to spend time with him. Maybe offer to tutor him at least until She leaves for Paris in the winter and Andie shows up. And she would go to Paris; she had always felt Joey had made the wrong decision to stay for Dawson instead of getting out of town and experiencing something new. She would have to make sure she took French classes. Ava was fluent but Joey knew only the most commonly used basic words. Becoming fluent in six months was not something heard of very much or very believable.
Ava sighed almost wishing she could be someone else, or the powers that be had put her here sooner so she could have started making the changes when it wouldn't have been as hard to hide the change in personality. She would have to move carefully to not arise suspicion, of her behavior or attitude towards some people. She had no reason she would be different, no accident to explain it away, and no major life changes. And because there were not any available electronics to use in the Potter house, she would need to find ones she could use privately. Some changes needed to be made electronically, and in a way that she knew couldn't be traced back to her.
Ava opened her eyes and watched as Bodie stood in the kitchen making breakfast, and Bessie sat at the table. Her hand rubbing her swollen belly, talking quietly to Bodie smiling the whole time. Ava glanced at the room around her, knowing it's the living room, she wouldn't get her own room for at least a year, when they turn it into a bb with the insurance money. That was one thing she wasn't looking forward to, Ava was going to take the chance and go to Paris but that means that she and the group wouldn't be there when the restaurant gets set on fire. Who knows how that will play out? Ava got up from her makeshift bed, grabbed some clothes, and waked to the bathroom to get ready for the day, Joey's memories and knowledge filling her head so she knew where to go. She looked at herself in the mirror, medium length straight brown hair parted in the middle, naturally tanned smooth skin, long legs, and flat stomach, slight curves, and her eyes were green she supposes but there was enough brown and hints of yellow at the center that she might consider them more hazel then green. She wasn't upset with how she looked she had always thought that Katie Holmes was pretty, and she was tall, taller than the 5'6"1/2 Ava had been in her original life. Even though she knew that the actors had already been adults when the show started and at their adult heights it seemed the life she was living planned to have her grow at a more natural pace. She wasn't at her full height yet, closer to 5'7" right now then the 5'9" she knew that she would end at. She contemplated the possibility of changing her hair and tried to remember if Katie Holmes had ever rocked side swept bangs maybe a side part or cutting her hair chin length. That would have to wait, she had a couple of things that still needed to get sorted out before that. Maybe until she goes to Paris, that would explain a lot of changes away.
She would start her changes by getting her passport, she wanted to have it ready for winter when the offer comes to go to Paris. She wasn't sure how much it would cost so she needed to find that out and if she could get ahold of a computer to arrange some funds to become available for her. She would be avoiding movie night and the following discussion and sleep over the next day, she needed a reason to miss it. She would have to see what she could arrange, maybe covering for someone at the Icehouse, where she works part time. Ava finished getting ready and walked into the kitchen to eat breakfast with her new family.
