EPISODE 3: THE TRIALS OF THE RISING ATTORNEY
I stood with my back to the wall, and my side along my friend, the Great Detective Sherlock Holmes.
"I say, Holmes," said I. "This is quite the troubling situation we have found ourselves in."
My partner shook his head in a condescending manner before speaking. "Not so, my friend. For I have already seen my way out of this predicament."
Not for the first time, I thought my friend to be mad, but then with a twirl of his pipe, he proved me wrong yet again. The trials that had been placed before us were now but burning rubble, that would soon be restored for the next challenger. I do wonder if they would pose a challenge to our good friend, John Ryuunosuke...
December 17, Dover Port
John Ryuunosuke followed Ryuunosuke Naruhodou, Susato Mikotoba and Sherlock Holmes off the ship. The ship was the same one they had conquered and stolen from the evil detective, Kuraudo Ooishi, and Holmes had since renamed it to the "S.S. Herlock Sholmes", a reference to it's new captain.
"Mr. Naruhodou, I've just realized..." said Holmes. "How exactly are we supposed to take the ship home with us?"
"Don't ask me?! It's your ship!" said Ryuu.
John Ryuunosuke suggested they just left the ship there. It was a shitty ship because of their battle with Ooishi and his minions so nobody would bother steal it. Everyone agreed that was the most rational choice, especially since there weren't really any others at the current moment. And so, the S.S. Herlock Sholmes continued to take up space in Dover Port, looking hideous.
John Ryuunosuke followed his family to the streets of London. As Holmes called for a carriage, John Ryuunosuke noticed an old man in brown sitting in the corner, shivering as he held up a sign.
"Fortune awaits those who act on their impulses..." the man muttered loudly enough for John Ryuunosuke to hear. And he said it while staring at John Ryuunosuke. In John Ryuunosuke's opinion, it seemed that the old man was directing a message at himself!
"Father," said John Ryuunosuke as he and his family got onto the carriage belonging to whatever the green juror from Runaway Room called his company. "I have been thinking..."
"You've been doing that a lot, John Ryuunosuke, I heard all about how you solved the murder of Haori and realized I was imprisoned on the S.S. Herlock Sholmes, maybe you should rest for a while?" said Ryuu.
"No. Not that kind of thinking. I have been thinking about becoming a defense attorney, just like you. I know I can do it because I was able to solve that mystery in 45 seconds, which is sure to be a handy ability for a defense attorney to have."
Ryuunosuke thought about this. It did seem like he'd be capable of it. But it was not a question of "could" but "can."
"John Ryuunosuke I hate to say it, but to become a defense attorney is no easy task. You have to go through college and-"
"No I don't, you didn't do that, you did a course while you were on the S.S. Alaclair but you could have just lied about doing all that. You probably did. You didn't even know about Closing Arguments when you first set foot here. Aunt Susato told me. Let's just do the same for me."
Ryuunosuke did not expect to see such a formidable opponent out of John Ryuunosuke. But he knew it was hopeless.
"John Ryuunosuke I'm very sorry but I don't think they'll allow people to stand in court if they're only about about three weeks old. Tell you what, I'll let you wear my defense attorney's armband. It actually belongs to my friend Asougi but you can wear it and play Courtroom when we get home."
John Ryuunosuke put the armband on his arm, and when he did he had a premonition. He saw himself standing in court, but not a play court, a real court. Not only that, but he saw that the courts needed him! Without him, people would be doomed! From that moment, he knew he had to achieve his dreams ASAP!
The rest of the day was boring. John Ryuunosuke made it to 221B Baker Street and he met Iris Watson who was extremely happy to see Ryuunosuke, Susato and Holmes, and she was also happy to see him, which he condemned as irrational because she should not be so happy to see a strange boy like John Ryuunosuke. Yuujin was there too because Iris couldn't live on her own because she was 12 years old so he stayed at Baker Street while Holmes was living with Ryuunosuke and Susato in Japan.
"Kids these days grow up so fast," was all Yuujin could say to John Ryuunosuke. But John Ryuunosuke wasn't listening. John Ryuunosuke was sitting at Holmes' desk which had lots of strange chemicals, which he soon realized must belong to Yuujin as he was a professor for that kind of thing. He opened a recipe book and found a recipe for a highly potent sleeping drug. All it took to make one was a jug of water and three sleeping pills called "Three Zs".
So John Ryuunosuke put the sleeping pills in the water and stirred it until it created a powerful drug called "Nine Zs." He intended to put it to use.
At dinner time, John Ryuunosuke put the Nine Zs drug into the water pitcher. Then, everyone gathered around the table to eat. Five minutes past and eventually, Ryuunosuke, Susato, Holmes and Iris all fell asleep.
John Ryuunosuke stood up and turned to leave but a voice stopped him.
"G-Goodness, just what is the meaning of this? h-hic" said Yuujin who drank wine instead of the water.
John Ryuunosuke knocked him out. Once everyone was asleep, he left them all sleeping there and called a carriage to take him to the Chief Justice's office.
"Why? My logic is simple," he told the green man as they set off. "Father told me that this armband belongs to Kazuma Asougi, yet he uses it as his own license to stand in court. Therefore, me wearing it also lets me stand in court. I also watched my father stand in court once and made some arguments for myself so I can do it."
The green man nodded. He was highly fascinated so he was glad John Ryuunosuke told him.
And that was the evening John Ryuunosuke set off to become the Greatest Ace Attorney who ever lived.
To be continued...
