It's been 9 years since the last time I update this story. I'm very very very sorry to make you waiting.
Some weeks ago, I heard Black Cat's soundtrack from youtube and the memories came again. So I opened again this story. Since my writing style had changed a bit, I was not satisfied with this story so I rewrote all the chapters (to make it better to be read) by adding some missing things or erasing some unimportant things. Yet, I still believe there were still many grammatical mistakes there.
At Chapter 20 (if you want to re-read), I put some actions when Train was carrying out his mission at the party.
Anyway, here's the last chapter. Hope it would meet your expectation.
Disclaimer: I don't own Black Cat.
CHAPTER 21: CONFESSION
Eve's POV
I narrowed my eyes, being alarmed. He had just finished his mission here. It was hard to believe that he decided to join Chronos again. Was this his first mission since he rejoined? Or he had done more …?
"Is this what you want?" My eyes bore into his clothes icily. Chronos' uniform, but lack of emblems and insignias.
"Yes."
I didn't expect to get his answer so fast, and I didn't want to imagine how many people he had shot dead again. How many times he stained his own hands with the blood of his targets again, since his last time. What was he thinking when he decided to choose this path? This … bloody path.
My right hand rose, ready to slap him. But before it happened, he instinctively caught my hand, gripping my wrist firmly, but not to the point of hurting me.
"Not so fast, Princess." He smirked at me. Now his voice sounded so casual. The usual Train that I knew all this time. "And I won't let you do that to me."
I glared at him.
"It looks like you have misunderstood." He released my wrist. "I rejoin Chronos under a new agreement, which one of the contents is that I won't carry out killing missions, unless I want." He narrowed his eyes as if he was remembering something difficult. "You don't know how hard it was to be approved. But finally they agreed."
"You mean ….?" I was stunned.
Sven POV
I didn't want to see what was happening at the garden, since Train and Eve was there. So I got back to the inside. To the party room.
The event was over and left a huge mess. Soon I sat on the nearest chair tiredly, after taking a glass of water from a still-clean-table. I clanked the trigger of my lighter, aiming the end of my cigarette after I set it flame.
Sephiria Arks and her henchmen had leaved, taking Morphine Dopman for further interrogation. While Dopman's client and their henchmen would be taken by policemen soon. I still remembered when she called me for this mission.
FLASHBACK
"Morphine Dopman?" I frowned, hearing the criminal's name from her call.
"Yes, he'll come to the party. Anniversary party of Avedici's."
I swallowed hard, hearing the place of Eve was working. I bet no parents in this world wanted their child's place of work to be a killing field.
"This will be an arrest mission and I already asked Number XIII for this mission." Sephiria's statement made me shocked. "Number XIII has confirmed his willing, as long as it's not a killing one."
I narrowed my eyes. XIII?! Was it Train?
The captain continued, "We need a lot of information from Dopman. He's one of the keys to the world wide drug trafficking. Ordinary sweepers could not reach him because of his brotherhood with the prime minister. So if you don't want Heartnet to meet your daughter there, just find an excuse so she couldn't come."
I smiled inside. So it was him.
It looked like Train had another idea in his own mind. That brat! He came back to Chronos but when it came to missions, he was so picky? What the hell?! Was Chronos already so desperate so that its member could choose whether he wanted to take the mission or not? But then again, Black Cat had been one of the top assets in organization all this time. All thanks to his skill. His strength. His speed. His experiences. His clean and professional work. Afterall, I guessed it was not surprising that one day he could do whatever he wanted. Chronos needed him.
"So, what do you think about my suggestion, Mr. Volfied?" Sephiria Ark asked.
I grinned. "Well, what will you do if I don't mind that he'll meet my daughter?" I challenged her.
"No particular action, actually."
"Then so be it?"
"Yes. Then so be it."
END FLASHBACK
So we agreed not to tell everyone about this meeting, and I wished this would make Eve happy. I hoped.
Soon I lifted my head when I heard some steps towards me.
"You …." I narrowed my eyes as Troy Wolff looked at me with unreadable expression.
Eve POV
I just gazed at Train as he smirked again. "This is my first mission since I rejoin. I didn't kill anyone. You can just check inside if you don't believe me."
"Your previous attitude was too convincing to shoot dead every living human here," I muttered flatly.
"Really? I didn't even realize it." He looked down, paying attention to his clothes. "It seems this outfit and the serious situation itself could change my mood."
I looked at him impassively, still thinking about his crazy decision.
"How?" I asked weakly.
"Hm?" He tilted his head.
"How could you decide to rejoin Chronos?"
His cheerful side slowly faded. "Isn't it … obvious?"
I stared at him carefully, wondering it was his way to meet Sven's request so he could come back to me.
"You don't have to go this far." I stated, hiding my sadness.
"Are you sure? Your father wants a prince for you." He tried to make a joke.
"So you think now you're a prince?" I retorted.
He chuckled bitterly. "Nah! In fact, I'm no prince and I would never be a prince."
"Good that you have realized it." My gaze now led to the party building. I wondered if Sven was still there. Now we could go home together. The three of us. Just like old days. But before that ...
"Thank you for saving me again from Eden Project."
He blinked and then smiled. "No problem."
"Adam must be very strong to manage to make you bleed."
"Yeah. But Black Cat is stronger than him. Remember that."
"Always." I couldn't say it out loud that Train was the strongest person that I had ever met in my life.
"Actually, there's something I want you to know, Eve."
My eyes widened a bit in surprise. Did I hear wrong? Did he just call me 'Eve'?
Suddenly he pulled me to him. I gasped when he hugged me tightly. I could feel my heart was beating fast, irregularly. This was too close! He was too close!
"I miss you."
Warmness slowly spread on my face. Just three words, and he managed to melt my heart. I closed my eyes, enjoying this moment, inhaling his natural scent.
Free, like a wind, and warm, like a fireplace.
"I … miss you too," I said back timidly.
"I'm not … really good to express my feeling in words," he whispered slowly on my ear, showing his mature side. "I know … I'm being so unfair to you, and I'm very sorry. But this time, I don't think I'll leave again … especially after I thought … I could reach you."
I opened my eyes. His voice. The way he said, as if he was so miserable, and I wondered why ….
… after I thought … I could reach you ….
Those words rang again in my mind. Had I been unreachable for him all this time? He might not be a prince (well, a prince was not even in my list), but how could he think himself that low?
"Eve .… " He seemed having trouble continuing.
I lifted my head to look at his eyes hopefully, wishing this act could encourage him to say something more. Something that I had been waiting from him. Something coming from his mouth only.
Say it, please.
"… I love you."
Finally ….
I smiled at him, giving him a signal that he could kiss me.
Then without any doubt, he placed his hands on my waist, before leaning down, giving me a single-lip-kiss fondly. A few seconds later, I gasped when he slowly sucked my lip. Automatically, I run my hands through his wild brown blackish hair and tiptoed my feet to make him easy to reach my mouth deeper. He caught my gesture positively so he dared to do more.
He licked between my lips, almost begging for an opening, and got his chance once my lips parted, allowing him. I moaned, wrapping my arms around him as he gave me a more intimate kiss.
Sven POV
From the entrance of the party, I looked away when I saw Train and Eve's kissing scene at the quite garden.
Get a room, you two! I growled inside, restraining myself so I would not jump to them and punch him. It really hurt, realizing how deep my fatherly instinct that I had towards her, that one day she would leave me to be with someone that she chose and loved.
Remind me again why I should let them, I sighed, realizing that her happiness was my happiness too.
Accidentally I gazed at a young man standing beside me. Troy Wolff. His eyes were widening, watching them. Anger and displeasure were on his face.
"What are you looking at, Baka!" I warned him.
Immediately he looked away, muttering with hatred and jealousy, "Black Cat. Such a lucky bastard!"
I sighed and nodded, and for the first time in my life, I agreed with him.
Eve POV
He pulled his head back slowly after the kiss, and observed my dress, especially when his cold and rough hand felt my bare back.
"Something's wrong?" I asked, clueless.
He didn't say anything. He just looked down, and shook his head, hiding his faint blushes.
"This dress is suitable for the party, and I'll be seventeen soon, Train." I reminded him why I wore these skimpy clothes.
"Yes, and you're so beautiful." He agreed. However, when he lifted his head and his eyes met mine's again, the table had turned as now I was the one who felt jittery.
Those golden eyes, previously filled with affection, admiration and sorrow, now showed passion, and dare I say ... desire?
My cheeks were reddened immediately. Well, that was what I got when the elite erase from Chronos, Number XIII, Black Cat didn't think of me as a kid anymore, but a woman whom he loved and who also loved him.
