EPILOGUE
Six months later ….
Train POV
It was a silent full moon night. I sat on the roof top with a photo of my target in my hand. Cody O'Bomb. 48 years old. The name mentioned by Morphine Dopman as one of his suppliers.
Soon my eyes were directed to my prey's house, observing it from faraway. A group of huge, strong and tall buildings with so many guards. There were two tall towers (at the right and the left) with a spotlight and a sniper in each. At the center, there was a main building (its height was lower than the towers), which the top was an opened area with many guards. I also could see some cannons and spotlights there.
I smirked. Definitely more like a fortress in my eyes, and somehow, it reminded me of Torneo's house. But the difference was; now there was no princess waiting for my arrival.
When I saw one of the towers (there was a big clock there) and realized it was my chance, I took Hades from the holster.
00.13 am.
It's time to work!
I ran and jumped to another tall building over and over again, approaching O'Bomb's residence which was soon to be my battlefield. This time, I would attack from the top floor since it was the easiest way in and the closest to the main bedroom, yet the most guarded area.
Landing on the tall wall surrounding O'Bomb residence, I jumped to the next building. Since his house was a group of tall buildings, I would just have to look for the taller ones to reach the top while avoiding the lights of the spotlights. Not more than 10 seconds, I was already on the top of the left tower after knocking out around 15 guards and a sniper.
I shot all the spotlights fast, surprising and confusing the guards because the top floors soon were consumed by the darkness and the mere lights couldn't really help them.
They blindly shot at the towers. There were even some cannonballs pointing my way. But as usual, I always managed to dodge.
"Intruder!" One of the guards shrieked when he saw my dark silhouette flying down from the tower. Landing gracefully on the top floor of the main building (and also right on his face), I would never give him and his friends a chance to attack. I ran and hit the back of their necks to make them 'sleep'. Some of them, who weren't lucky enough, got their hands shot.
I bit my tongue as the smell of the gunpowder filled my nose. Definitely not a good sign for me. Better to accomplish this mission soon before my sanity was completely replaced by killing instinct.
I broke the closed the door and ran down the corridor, searching for O'Bomb's room. When I saw the most magnificent door at this floor, I immediately pushed and opened it.
My eyes widened as I saw many guns were aimed to me.
"Throw your weapon!" Cody O'Bomb exclaimed, sitting on the sofa while enjoying seeing me to be surrounded by his henchmen.
But I was just quiet, glaring at him without moving. Hades was still on my left hand.
"Throw your weapon on the floor, Black Cat!" He repeated, but with a harsher tone.
I swallowed hard, doing what he asked, but I silently clutched its red wire.
"Now, how about the negotiation?"
I still glared at him in silence. Negotiation?
"How much?"
I narrowed my eyes in anticipation, letting him elaborate.
"How much shall I pay for you to be my bodyguard?"
That was unexpected. This was the first time I faced a target who offered me, a Chronos Number, money. Was he out of his mind?
He chuckled as I didn't give him any words. "There's no one who doesn't know you in the underground. Black Cat. An elite eraser from Chronos." He stood. "If you're at my side, underground domination is just a piece of cake."
Again, no words from me.
"If you think I couldn't pay you well, you're wrong, Black Cat. I have been starting a new business besides drugs." He smirked wickedly. "Human organ trade from kidnapped children."
I could feel my pupils dilate to the max. So the rumors were true.
FLASHBACK
"This isn't a killing mission, right?" I asked after Sephiria gave me some papers about my next target.
My captain filled me in, "Cody O'Bomb. Dopman's main supplier. Rumors say he has a new business and he's the mastermind of it. Human organ trade. But it can't be trusted since we need more information about it."
I nodded. "I'll capture him."
"Heartnet, when you meet him, his life depends on your decision."
My eyes widened a bit. "I don't want to-"
"I know." She cut off. "But I'm worried, the longer he lives, the more people become victims."
END FLASHBACK
"The demands are very high in underground, especially for hearts, lungs, kidneys, and liver. So to get an easy and cheap source, we kidnapped hundreds of healthy homeless children and kids from poor families. It's a greatly lucrative business afterall."
His explanation made me want to vomit. My hand itched to pull the trigger and I couldn't hold it any longer. I really wanted to shoot him. I really wanted him dead.
"So, how about my offer, Black Cat?" O'Bomb asked.
"Forget it," I seethed.
"What a fast answer." He laughed, giving a signal to his henchmen to attack. When they started firing, I pulled Hades' wire and threw it straight to some guards to knock them out before retrieving it.
"Kill him!" One of the remaining guards shouted. But my finger was much faster to pull the trigger and shot their hands.
Soon I pushed Cody O'Bomb's back to the wall. My right hand tightly gripped his neck while my left hand was shooting, right next to his neck. I didn't know exactly what kind of expression that I showed him. But his body trembled a lot.
"Where are the children?" I asked with a deadly calm voice.
He didn't answer, too terrified to say something.
I fired again. Three bullets soon sank into the wall. One just above his head, and the remaining two on each side.
"Where are the children?" I repeated, growling, emphasizing each syllable of my words.
"A-all the d-data are i-in my work room, n-next to my room."
I nodded, poking Hades's muzzle against his left chest.
"You're used to targeting children's organs, right?" I glared at him viciously, slowly pulling the trigger. "How about now your heart is Black Cat's target?"
"S-sto-"
BANG.
Slowly I lowered my left hand as I looked down, bangs hiding my eyes as O'Bomb's dead body fell to the floor.
"I rejoin Chronos under a new agreement, which one of the contents is that I won't carry out killing missions, unless I want."
I still remembered what I said to her six months ago. However, Cody O'Bomb was the key of this contemptible business. As long as he was still alive, the business would also continue, both openly and clandestinely. I couldn't imagine how many children had died to raise his bank accounts. Just thinking about it made my killing instinct awakened immediately.
I put Hades in its holster.
I'm sorry, Princess …
… for delivering him some bad luck.
Eve POV
01.33 a.m.
I had been waiting for him since he went for a Chronos mission. I was relieved when I received his message a hour ago, telling that he was fine and he was at Chronos H.Q to report his mission and would be on his way to go home soon. However, he also told me that he left the keys of his apartment.
Yes. Trains's apartment. Since he rejoined Chronos, Sephiria advised that he could not stay together with us for our safety. Everyone knew that Chronos had so many enemies, and so did Black Cat. However, there was always special treatment for me, and I was very grateful for it.
His apartment had two bed rooms. The main bedroom was his, another one was mine. I was surprised he could buy it just three months after I knew that he rejoined Chronos. Truthfully, I wondered if the payment he got from Chronos was really good, although I never asked him about it.
There were about two to five missions a week, and his working time was usually at night or at the middle of night, or at the early morning, and sometimes he worked on the evening. For several times, even though I saw him come home with bruised jaw and some bloody cuts on his face or parts of his body (he was never hit by a gunshot so far), I had never heard him complain about his mission and his working time. When he got hurt, he just took the first aid kit and took care of his wound by himself (but if I was fast enough, I was the one who did).
In brief, he was so committed in my opinion, and I silently admired the way he thought about his works and … our future.
Curiously I glanced at the main door. There was no knock on it, and it meant he hadn't arrived yet.
Click!
Suddenly I heard a noise from the window as if it was being opened from the outside.
"Doors are invented for purpose, Train." I pouted when he decided to appear and enter his own apartment from the unlocked window. This made the cold night wind blow my long hair.
"You forgot to lock the window, Princess." He soon locked the window. "And I don't want to break my door or disturb your beauty sleep."
"I didn't forget. No one could reach this floor. It's the top floor," I uttered impassively, glancing at him while he was taking his shoes off casually, then his socks, his black long trench coat, and his black shirt, showing his back at me.
I narrowed my eyes when I smelled something familiar from him.
Blood ….
"No one?" He chuckled waywardly, reminding me who he was.
"Train, you're … you're hurt." I stated, watching the dried red liquid on his hand. Wait! Was it his blood?
He turned around to see me, his hands playing with the buckle of his belt, before taking it off. I looked away, blushing, for seeing him topless. He held his laugh.
"My bad. I forgot there is a virgin here." He smirked ignoring my last words. He went into his room. Probably for taking a shower.
I sighed when he left me alone at this living room. Soon I took my cellphone, reading Sven's message that came a few hours ago, telling that tomorrow he would come home. When Sven was out of city on duty like this time (Sven worked as a detective now, joining with the central police), I stayed at Train's apartment.
I still remember when I told Sven for the first time that Train asked me to stay at his new apartment as he would be out of city for work for several weeks. As predicted, his reaction was priceless. He immediately refused that idea.
FLASHBACK
"You know what, Eve?! Letting you alone in our house is much safer than letting you stay with that … that rascal!"
"You didn't mind when we, three of us, were still together three years ago. So why don't you agree this time?" I uttered innocently, although I already knew his reason.
"This is a different situation! For me, you're still a kid, but in his eyes, you're … you're ….." He looked frustrated, but he would not let himself to elaborate. So at the next day when Train came to our house, wearing his usual black outfit, Sven couldn't help himself for landing his punch on Train's jaw … hard.
Surprisingly (but also expectedly), it didn't knock Black Cat to the floor. He didn't even stagger. He just made a warning stare while all of us were seeing a red and blue bruise on his jaw.
"What did I do?" The owner of Hades asked, upset.
"It's not 'what-did-you-do'. It's 'what-will-you-do' to her!" Sven corrected.
Automatically he understood the situation. He gave a small sigh and then he gave an advice, "Don't be so paranoid, Sven. You know very well that I'll be responsible if anything happens to her."
"Anything …?" Sven emphasized, grabbing the collar of Train's coat tight, as if he wanted confirmation. His eyes were like demanding 'What if Eve got hurt?', 'What if Eve was sick?', 'What if Eve got kidnapped?', and 'What if Eve got pregnant because of you?'
"Anything." Black Cat confirmed, seriously curt, his tawny eyes glaring at his former partner.
Sven gritted his teeth, shaking his head to overcome his madness. But in the end, he should have realized that Black Cat's words were something that could be accounted for. Indeed.
"Dad …." I looked at him pleadingly.
He sighed. "Fine, Eve. You can stay with him when I'm out of city."
END FLASHBACK
15 minutes later, Train came out of his room, wearing a black t-shirt and a pair of blue sweat pants. He straightly went to kitchen, opening the refrigerator to take a bottle of milk, before sitting on the sofa right beside me.
"It's not good for a teenage girl to stay up late," he said, looking at some of my books about introduction to psychology, lying opened on the coffee table.
I studied psychology this year at the best university at our country, which was luckily located at this city. It was a good thing that I had told him a few months ago about my plan to continue my study, so he chose this apartment to be his residence. It was close from my campus.
"Anyway, will you have a photo shoot tomorrow?" he asked.
I shook my head.
"Is there any homework?" He asked again, guessing why I was studying.
I shook my head again.
"A quiz for tomorrow?"
I shook my head again.
"Hmmm …" He was thinking hard, before grinning mischievously, "Wait, were you really studying? Or … was it your way of covering up the fact that you were actually waiting for me, Princess?"
I bit my lower lip. Was I too obvious?
"Stupid Train …." I mumbled.
"Oh! So I'm right."
Before I had my chance to retort, he gave a quick peck on my lips swiftly.
"Train!" I complained, cheeks blushing.
"Thanks for waiting for me, Princess." He grinned.
"S-shut up." I grumbled, before I changed the topic. "By the way, are you alright?"
He stared at me, confused.
"I saw blood, on your hand …."
"Nah. I'm perfectly fine. It was an easy mission."
But I felt something not right between us, especially when he always avoided my eyes. No doubt. There was something he was hiding. If it wasn't his blood, then should it be … his enemy's blood?
"Train …."
"Hm?" He put the empty bottle on the coffee table.
"Did you kill … someone?"
He didn't answer verbally, but his eyes soon met mine's without blinking.
There was a pause between us for some seconds before I whispered, breaking the silence, "Why?"
"You wanna slap me?"
"Why, Train?" I demanded.
He swallowed hard before starting, "Look, Princess. I'll tell you everything."
Train POV
Princess didn't say anything for several minutes after I told her the truth.
"Organ trade of human children … ," she muttered. I could catch a disgusted feeling in her tone. "It's hard to believe there's a human like that in this world. Wait, he's not even a human. He's so horrible."
"What's your point, Princess?"
"Well, if he was left alive, I think the punishment he would get from the court's decision would be … also death."
"You meant … I just hastened his death?"
She looked at me without saying anything, but closing her book.
"Are you mad at me for killing him?"
She didn't answer, but uttered, "This is your first murder after you rejoined Chronos. I'm afraid … the more you take Chronos' missions … you'll return to your …."
"Stop that thought, please. Cody O'Bomb is an exception, although … maybe there are more exceptions to come later. I won't deny, but believe me. I'll be more selective before I take the next missions. I just …." I couldn't finish my sentence because I thought she would know.
She sighed. "I know. You have a fondness for children. So that's why you can't hold your killing instinct. He had killed many children afterall." She smiled bitterly, as if to remind me of our first meeting at Torneo's house, when I would like to shoot her. She saw doubt in my eyes because I would kill a child. Well, she wasn't a child anymore now.
"Who knows Black Cat has one weakness?" She asked to tease me.
"It's two," I corrected.
She blinked, immediately she understood what I meant.
"You know, Train? I wish … I could be your strength, instead of your weakness," she admitted forlornly.
"Well, you're both."
She smiled at me sincerely. "Thanks."
"My pleasure."
Then she started tidying up her books.
"Done?" I asked.
She nodded. "I'm going to sleep."
"Are you going to return to Sven's house tomorrow?"
"Yes, until he gets another out of city assignment."
"So tonight, can we …?" I looked into her eyes, hoping that she knew what I meant.
"Yes." She nodded.
Soon I carried her. Bridal style. To my room. I placed her on the bed carefully before lying next to her.
Everytime she would like to return to Sven's house at the next day, or after I completed my mission, we always slept together at my room, and for your information, we never went that far because she told me that she wished to keep her virginity until the wedding night.
Truthfully, I was surprised. Princess was still a virgin and had no experience what so ever with men? But then again, who would dare to do that to her? Sven-daddy (I couldn't imagine that one day he would be my father-in-law) would break every arm trying to touch her for sexual purpose. I was so grateful that he only threatened me and asked me not to touch her in front of him.
I smiled, recalling it, and felt honored to be her first boyfriend and would try my best to grant her wish.
"I love you, Princess. Good night, and good morning." I teased her, since it was really on the morning.
She pouted when I gave her a teddy bear hug, as if saying 'How could you still joke around at a time like this?'
"Don't look at me like that. We still have an agreement." I uttered matter-of-factly. I couldn't say out loud that she was so damn tempting when she was pouting. Or when she was looking at me with her pink innocent and tired eyes. (Screw my man's need!) Furthermore, I didn't want her to know that it had been a while since my last sexual activity with a woman. I simply didn't want her to taste something that she was not ready for. (And courtesy of Sven for allowing me to marry her after she finished her study)
She closed her eyes, didn't want to argue anymore because she was too tired. And several minutes later, I could hear her soft snore.
After I was sure she really fell asleep, I sat up carefully and covered her body with a thick blanket before leaving my room.
I would never let myself laid on the same bed with Princess for a long time, and I didn't believe when a man said that he didn't do anything with a beautiful woman (let alone that she was his girlfriend or his fiancée) sleeping next to him, at the same bed. How could he – a normal man – restrain his own need? What a complete bullshit!
So here I was. Sleeping on the sofa at the living room.
Eve POV
It was around 7 am and I sat up, finding that he wasn't next to me. Well, that wasn't a surprise. It always happened when we started sleeping together. He would end up sleeping outside, without telling me.
I walked into the living room, smiling when I saw he was lying on the sofa, still sleeping peacefully. Seeing him like that, I bet no one would believe that he just killed someone a few hours ago, and this also proved how strong he was. Inside and out. So, whatever happened later, he would never regret it. No one could change his decision, because he had calculated everything right before his finger pulled the trigger.
Silently I crouched beside him, caressing his wild hair, before whispering something that I should say to him after he confessed, "Good morning, Black Cat. I love you too." Then I pressed my lips on his, giving him a chaste kiss.
