Misaki sighed as soon as the last bell rang. The club hours started and it was yet another usual day for her. She wasn't usually involved in anything and lived a plain life. She was in her second year and by now, because of her glares and personality, she was known as 'Boss lady'. She has very few friends. Oh… but there were many students who didn't like Misaki for many reasons. Mostly because many misinterpret her actions and think she's 'delinquent' type of a person. At least, because of it everyone stayed out of her way… And she wasn't complaining. She only needed to keep her grades up and she liked it this way, quietly enjoying her life.

But that day she learned that things don't always stay the way we want…

Misaki had finished her project after so much hassle. She was very busy with her shop as well as her school work and she was exhausted. But she was happy that she had completed it on time. She collected her papers, arranged them in order and put them in a file and left to submit them to her physics teacher. The teacher had asked her to bring it to the teachers' lounge till 3 pm and Misaki rushed since it was almost time.

And then it happened…

A soccer ball hit her hard on her back and she jerked forward. There were gasps and silence followed since the 'Boss lady' was hit and the back of her blazer splotched with mud. On the other hand, Misaki stared at the ground with disbelief as her project file fell from her hands and the papers scattered around, some even splotched with mud when the ball rolled over them.

"..."

Meanwhile, the students playing the soccer were none other than popular students, namely, Kai Toshiki, Ren Suzugamori, Miwa Taishi, Kenji Mitsusada, Ibuki Kouji, Naoki Ishida and Aichi Sendou with few others boys. The boys looked a little hesitant since it was Misaki. Kai, on the other hand, looked somewhat triumphant.

"Uh… It's Boss lady… This is bad" Naoki said. "I'm not going there" he added.

"Aichi, you go" Miwa told Aichi who looked hesitant.

"Oh come on! What are you scared of? It's just Misa-Q!" Ren shrugged. "Kai will go since he kicked it" he pointed out.

"She looks very angry, by the way" Kenji commented.

"And she's coming this way" Ibuki added.

"You did that on purpose, didn't you?" Miwa sighed at Kai who shrugged.

Misaki was in front of the boys and the soccer ball was in her hands. Her face showed anger and her eyes, glaring.

"Who was it?" Misaki asked with a glare.

"N-Nee-chan, it was an accident!" Miwa told her.

"Well, my work is ruined thanks to it. So who was it?" Misaki's eyes were blazing now.

"…" Kai blinked when everyone pointed at him.

"Apologize" Misaki demanded.

"It was an accident, Tokura" Kai said.

And the next thing he knew, Misaki threw the ball at him roughly and left him with a muddy stain on the front of his shirt. Kai was smirking in amusement and his friends shook their heads.

"Great attempt for attention" Kenji smirked and patted Kai's shoulder.

"SShhh! She'll kick us if she finds out!" Miwa stated.

"I don't think she'll notice…" Kenji stated.

"Just ask her out already" Ibuki said in annoyance while Kai ignored him as they resumed playing.

"Hn"

Kai Toshiki was one of the heartthrobs in the school, much to his dismay and so he also had many fan girls… much to his annoyance. He got used to the stares and giggles and squeals and boy he was very good at ignoring all the attention. And his attitude kept them away. Even the teachers were very kind to him because he was a son of high profile family. And because of his family's influence, many tried to be on his good side but he could see through them. It went on like that for a while until the lilac haired beauty came into the picture. He never paid attention until he heard she refused to be paired with him on a project.

Flash back…

"So work with your partners and submit the project on time. You've got three days" the teachers told the students.

"Yes, Sensei!" the students chorused.

Kai wasn't really happy because this time his partner was a girl… Now he had to endure squealing, giggling and unnecessary babbling and so on… He'll just partner up with one of his friends as usual, maybe Miwa because Miwa was also paired with a girl. He wanted to switch partners and was about to stand up when someone beat him to it.

"Sensei" Misaki raised her hand and stood up.

"Yes, Misaki-san?"

"Can I switch partners?" Misaki asked.

"…" everyone looked surprised at Misaki.

"Your partner is… Kai Toshiki-san, right?"

"Yes"

"…" the class stared at Misaki, dumbfounded while Kai was the only one intrigued.

End of Flash back…

And he noticed many things after that. Misaki Tokura wasn't just any other girl… After she refused to work with him on the project, they had switched partners; she paired up with Akari and he paired up with Miwa. Not only that, he also came to know that she was the one who refused to tutor him before this on a subject he got a less marks and his parents over-reacted. She had never tried to talk to him like others even though they were classmates. It seemed that she wanted to keep away from him and his friends. She was also the who had kicked Miwa a while back. And so, he wanted to know her because he liked her attitude.

The problem was… She never took notice of him. Or rather, she chose to ignore him as well as his friends. So he started paying more attention and here he was… using more obvious ways.

Few Days later…

A few boys played soccer in the field and judging from the squeals and giggling of the girls around, it was obvious it's popular clique again. Miwa, Kai, Ren, Ibuki, Naoki and Kenji were too busy to notice the girls around them when Kai kicked the soccer ball too hard that it went out of the boundaries. Misaki ignored them as she was busy looking at her favorite spot under the tree. She regularly sat on the bench under the tree to read her books and novels. Misaki walked past by the noisy girls but paused when the soccer ball came tumbling towards her and bumped at her feet before rolling at her side.

Misaki frowned. Now this was happening regularly. Whenever the boys played, the soccer ball would somehow get near Misaki.

"HEY, MISA-Q!" Ren called Misaki who sent him a sharp glare.

The fan girls paused when they saw Misaki a few meters away from them and Misaki was glaring at Ren. Ever since Misaki threw ball at Kai, the boys had started talking to Misaki like she was their friend and it annoyed her to no end.

"…" Misaki turned to leave, ignoring Ren's call.

"Misa-Q~!"

"It's Mi-sa-ki!" Misaki turned sharply to Ren. "And take it yourself" she turned back and paused.

"Tokura"

"When did you-…?" Misaki blinked in surprise when Kai stood in front of her. "You! What is your problem?" she asked, frowning at Kai.

"Are you always angry?" Kai asked instead.

"You're doing this on purpose, aren't you?" she crossed her arms and glared at him.

"Hn?"

"Every time you play, you kick the soccer ball at me. Every time, Kai" she emphasized.

"How do you know I kick it towards you?" he said. "You watch me?" he asked and she blinked at him in surprise.

"Why would I do that?" she quirked an eyebrow.

"Then why do you pass by here every day and sit there?" he said, pointing at the bench and she could see him smirking.

"Well, this is my regular path and spot"

"Then change it"

"Arrogant brat" she muttered and left.

And Misaki did change her path and her spot but…

"…?" Misaki stared in disbelief.

In front of her was Kai Toshiki, napping on the bench she sits. She had recently found a good spot in some quiet place under the tree shade at the corner of the campus. The place held a calming silence and Misaki was glad she found this spot. But now Misaki frowned. This was away from the soccer field and she was glad that she didn't need to get disturbed by Kai and his friends anymore but she was wrong. They would often talk to her and Akari like they all were friends… And Kai would often meddle in her business which was unnecessary.

And now he was taking a nap on her bench! She clenched the book and file in her hands and adjusted her bag over her shoulder as she reached the bench and glared down at the napping brunette, ignoring how charming and relaxed he looked. She had to rewrite the entire assignment because of him!

"What are you doing here?" Misaki asked in annoyance which woke him up.

"Aa. Tokura" Kai greeted as he sat up straight. "You didn't take my picture while I was asleep, did you?" he asked, rubbing his eyes.

"Why would I do that?" her eyebrow twitched when he stared at her in doubt. "I didn't" she confirmed.

"If you say so" he shrugged and leaned back on the bench.

"This is my bench and I would like you to leave at once" she told him and she saw his eyebrows rising up.

"I… don't see your name on it, Tokura" Kai pointed out. "But I'm kind enough to let you sit" he said, gesturing at the rest of space on the bench.

"No thanks" Misaki turned to look for another bench but the other benches were taken by other students and few weren't under the tree shade.

Kai smirked in triumph when Misaki flopped down at the other end of the bench and kept her bag between them, at her side. She then ignored him and started reading her novel.

A few minutes passed in silence…

"…" Misaki frowned then glanced at Kai and her eyebrow twitched when she saw that he was looking at her. She snapped her book shut and gave a plain look at Kai.

"You're doing this on purpose, I know" she told him. "You and your friends are trying to annoy me because I stained your shirt, right?" she frowned at him.

"No"

"Just tell me what you want. You want me to apologize?" she asked and he paused.

"No" his answer surprised her. "Anyway, did you submit your assignment yet?" he asked and she glared at him.

"No. Thanks to you, I have to write it three more times" she told him.

"I know. And that's why…" he grabbed a folder beside him and handed it to her. "Here" he said.

"You…" she opened the file he gave and looked back and forth at him and the file. "You wrote it… three times?" she stared at him in disbelief.

"Hn" he said as he ran his hand through his hair.

"Are you trying to apologize?" she couldn't help but smile and he looked away.

"Now let me rest. Don't disturb me" he told her.

"…!" she stared in surprise when he turned away and lie down on bench and put his head on her bag.

Some Time later…

Misaki finally finished reading her novel and a small smile curved at her lips as she closed the book. She was so consumed in her reading that she lost the track of time and… a certain someone napping beside her. Her cellphone rang and she immediately pulled it out of her skirt's pocket and received the call. On the other hand, Kai woke up at the sound of the ring but stayed put with closed eyes and heard Misaki speaking on the cellphone.

Suddenly, Kai heard Misaki laugh and it sounded melodic to him. He had seen her smile a few times at Aichi and Akari but never heard her laugh. And now hearing it, he felt somewhat special because she had never even smiled at him. On the other hand, Misaki hung up and grabbed her bag without thinking and realized she had put her hand over the brunette hair. She retracted her hand instinctively and leaned forward to look at his face.

"Kai" she called but the brunette didn't budge. "Hey, wake up!" she nudged his shoulder and he opened his eyes slowly.

"…" Misaki suddenly found herself staring in his turquoise eyes while he stared right in her midnight blue eyes.

"Tokura" Kai broke the trance she was in and she suddenly stood up.

"M-my bag! I want my bag" she said and grabbed her bag hastily and left.

Tokura Book shop…

Misaki groaned. Her best friend Akari had warned her not to stare in those… turquoise eyes and now she understood why. His eyes sure are… captivating. She groaned again. She had been successful to avoid the brunette heartthrob because she knew such group of boys is always trouble. She had even kicked Miwa a while back because of Akari and since then Miwa started calling her 'Nee-chan' but that was another story…

'But it was nice of him… He completed the assignment… I should thank-… What am I thinking!' she thought and shook her head. She felt that his eyes left an imprint on her mind and her memory being eidetic wasn't helping at all! She glanced around the shop and thought that all their efforts paid off as the shop looked clean and comfy after they did some rearrangements last week.

"Are you alright, Misaki?" Shin asked his niece who was glaring at the paper bag in her hand.

"I'm fine" Misaki replied and handed Shin the bag.

Shin nodded and said "Well, I got to deliver this to Suzuki-san. I'll be right back so take care of the shop till then"

"Okay, uncle. Don't get lost on your way" she told him.

"Hey! It's just three blocks away!" Shin grabbed his cellphone and small bag of books and left the shop.

Misaki sighed and resumed her reading. Few minutes later, the door to their shop opened and in came a customer.

"Welcome" Misaki instinctively greeted the customer in her usual tone and paused. "What are you doing here?" she frowned.

"Hn" Kai grunted in greeting then scanned the shop.

"I asked you something, Kai"

Misaki felt her cheeks warm as he stared at her with those captivating eyes which held some strange look while Kai approached her and stood in front of her. She raised an eyebrow when he sighed.

"A-Anyway… I wanted to thank you for that assignment so…" Misaki rummaged through the drawers while Kai kept his cool by giving her a plain look. "Here! This is a free membership card of our shop and… uh…?" she paused when he chuckled.

"I don't want it. I did that for you because I wanted to" he told her and she covered her blush with a fake cough.

'Ehem' Misaki felt her heart racing, hearing him say such thing.

"T-Thanks, I guess…" she tried to calm her racing heart and averted her eyes from his while he watched her as she fumbled to speak. "Sorry about the other day… I hit you with that soccer ball…" she finally said and he let out a sigh.

"Tokura… You really are oblivious" Kai said and she looked confused.

"…What?" she blinked.

"Pay attention to your surroundings and stop ignoring people" he told her and she raised her eyebrows at sudden comment.

"Ha?" she frowned "Excuse me-…"

"Sorry isn't going to cut it, Tokura…"

"Oh" her face turned plain as she asked "So what do you want?"

"I want your attention"

"You…" her eyes widened in surprise. "W-Why…?" she needed to hear his reason.

"I'll tell you the reason over a cup of coffee"

"Are you… asking me out on a date?"

"Hn"
