"Light. Darkness. A balance." -Rey
"Dear child, the belonging you seek is not behind you...it is ahead." -Maz Kanata
Rey stared at the body of Ben Solo. Tears began to fall down her cheeks, cutting paths through the dirt and grime that had accumulated during the battle. She leaned over him, cradling his head in her arms. Rey embraced him one last time, because she knew that his body was going to disappear soon. He had given up his life for her. She could not give it back to him because there wasn't enough for the both of them. Rey realized that he had known it all along, he would willingly give up his life to save hers.
She sensed a presence around her and looked up to see Anakin Skywalker standing over her. He bent down and placed his hand over Ben's forehead.
"Let me, Rey. Do not waste your energy grieving someone who is not gone. No one's ever really gone. My grandson finished what I started, if not in the way anyone expected. When I was training to become a Jedi master, I fell in love with a woman named Padme Amidala. I loved her too much, some said. I had a vision that she would die in childbirth and I wanted to save her, unlike I could for my mother. You see, my original goal was to save Padme, but in searching for a way to save her, Palpatine seduced me to the dark side of the force. Ben finished what I set out to do in saving you. He gave up his life in doing so, which is the ultimate sacrifice. He loved you so much that he was willing to give up his life force to save yours. And I believe-"
"Actually, Dad, we all believe that Ben should have a second chance at life," Luke Skywalker said behind him. Beside Luke stands Leia, a knowing smile on her face. Behind the twins, stand all the Jedi that have come before.
Rey began to feel the force flowing around in the arena, encircling them all. Then it ended and as quick as it had begun.
"Not to mention, but you would be devastated if you had walked out of here alone," Leia said with a wink and a knowing smirk. With that, they faded into the darkness, leaving Rey alone with a warm body. Wait-warm?
"Ben," she breathed.
"I'm here, sunshine, don't worry," he mumbled, eyes still closed. "And I don't plan on going anywhere." Ben sat up, staring at her.
"But you did! You were-" she choked out, trying to swallow a sob, but no luck, and tears began to fall down her cheeks once again, making more trails in the blood and grime on her face.
"Hey," he whispered softly, "it's okay. I'm here now, you're here. That's all that matters. We're here together. Always."
With that, Rey began to sob more, so he folded her into his chest, hugging her tightly, never wanting to let go.
