This story is set 20 years before May/Brendan's journey in the games. it follows Raymond Starcutter, a friend of Team Magma' leader Maxie and Team Aqua's leader Archie, and his journey to be a pokémon trainer.

3. Chapter 3 The Boy with the Riolu

Chapter 3. " the Mysterious Boy with a Riolu"

As Raymond got off the boat in Slateport he knew he had to Board mr. Briney's boat to Dewford, then to just outside Petalburg "I'm so close" Raymond thought as he approached Mr. Briney's ship. Suddenly he sensed an attack and guarded his Ralts, and a Riolu lunged at him, the Riolu's trainer seemed to say "Brother" then grunted several times. "Woah, a Sinnoh Pokémon here in Hoenn? You must be a remarkable trainer." Raymond said, thinking of his Cousin Lucian in the Sinnoh Region. "Trai-ner? Me no think Brother need training, Brother strong as me" said the boy.

"Brother? Is that his nickname?" Replied Raymond, the boy snarled "No, Brother, Brother after mother got caught Brother is all I have left" Ralts then lept out of Raymond's arms and touched the boy's forearm, then waddled back to Raymond before tripping over itself, Raymond picked up his Ralts and the Ralts touched his neck. Raymond felt a surge of emotions; Kinship, Love, Sorrow, Hate, and something deeper, Connection. But a connection to what? The horn sounded and Raymond bolted to Mr. Briney's ship

A few hours later he arrived in Petalburg when he ran into a kid with a Slakoth. "On your way to Littleroot?" The boy asked "Maybe, you?" replied Raymond "Not till next year, my name is Norman, you?"

"Raymond" and Raymond headed for Route 102 to Oldale.
