Chapter 3: Destined encounter

Pure adrenaline ran through his body, he felt the wind in his face as he leaped into the air and for a brief moment he'd felt absolute bliss, but that feeling was short-lived as that was soon replaced by pain, leaves and wood were scraping against his body and pressing against his face, even though it was painful the young man clang to the tree since the alternative was actually falling to his death. Not wanting to look down to see how far away from the ground he was he decided to look around and see the rest of the forest, it would've been an amazing view of the mountains and the trees if it weren't for the fact that he was terrified for his life, a few seconds later the monster appeared on the edge of the cliff but instead of acknowledging him it just continued to run down the cliffside until it disappeared into the forest.

The young man let out a sigh of relief knowing that he was safe at least for the moment.

"Ha-ha…ha-ha HAHAHAHA I'M ALIVE HAHAHAHAHA…" he yelled towards the sky in absolute joy.

"HA…ha…. ha, I'm alive… alive… I… I lost all my equipment, but at least I still got my picture" the young man felt a punch to the gut and his happiness quickly turned to dread upon realizing the reality of his situation.

The vintage camera containing the picture that would change his life didn't survive the landing, rendering the precious film inside…useless.

"…."

A quick feeling of sadness filled his heart as the realization of what had just happened sank in.

"I lost everything… my cameras… my notes...proof that I was right all along… all these years…wasted, no one's gonna believe me…. just like last time, and I had proof this time, evidence for crying out loud and I lost it over a STUPID MISTAKE!"

Agony and despair filled his heart and soul, his mind could have been filled with any number of thoughts leading to this point in his life, regardless there was only one word on his mind…why?

"Why, why, why?"

He said to himself as his emotions slowly took over him, sadness, guilt, anger all swelling up inside until it was too much to bear….

"WHYYYYYYY?!"

He shouted to the sky echoing into the distance until silence took over the forest once more…

The young man stayed silent and decided to look at the sky for a few minutes gazing upon the clouds reminiscing about how his life and how he got to this point.

"Maybe this is just life… just one failure after another, no matter how hard anyone tries to make a difference, no matter how much I want something, eventually it'll just amount to nothing…well If I'm gonna be miserable might as well go back to the village and rest on an actual bed"

the young man proceeded to see if there was a way down, and to his surprise there was…

"What? that's not supposed to be here" the young man said with a confused expression on his face as he looked down to see an old ruined building underneath the tree he was hugging. It didn't look like other buildings from the village, this one looked decades old, it was also in very bad shape so it was hard to know what it was for.

"It looks like a…" as soon as the young man starts to piece together what he's looking at, one of his pockets begins to ring startling him in the process.

The young man then pulls out what appears to be an old flip phone

"ah man how am I gonna explain this"

The young man leaves the phone ringing for a few more seconds before reluctantly deciding that it's time to confront the situation sooner than later.

"uh…. Hi proffe-"

Mark?!… Mark are you all right? your receiver went offline and I haven't been able to locate you, what happened? where are you?

"Sorry professor, listen a lot of stuff just happened and I don't think your gonna believe what I jus-"

"…"

"Mark? Mark, what happened?"

Mark stayed completely silent as he was the sole witness of something that shook him to the core, something that very few have been able to see during the entire course of human recorded history, or in Mark's case seeing it twice in the span of a single lifetime.

Mark had been left speechless unable to understand what he was seeing he only gasped and uttered nonsensical noises into the phone, the giant bird-like creature in the sky was so majestic and mystical, it was glowing a golden-like color covered in vibrant feathers, its wings were so huge it could possibly cover the entire village with ease, it expelled and aura so pure yet as equally powerful at the same time, it was something only talked about in myths and legends, something that presented itself only to the strongest trainers in the entire world.

And to a smaller extent, those who were destined for something more…

"Mark, what's going on? Mark…. MARK!?" Shouted the frantic professor as he was unable to witness the event that would change their lives forever.

"It came back… "

"What?! What came back?!"

"…HO-OH…"
