Chapter 4

Harry POV

Stepping outside the tent, to allow the magic to do its job more easily, we are greeted with the lush green forests of anima.

"Anima? And is that the tent?" Ruby asks when she sees the position of the sun and how small the outside of the tent is.

"Remember, magic." I respond as I stretch after leaning over to get out of the A-frame tent.

"True. So why are we outside?" She asks after turning around.

"Well, as great as magic is, magic can occasionally mess up. And with starting your training we need a training space. We don't keep it out because I don't use it and your mother and I didn't usually have people over when we used the tent." I say as I turn back to the tent.

"Really? What all do you have in this tent?"

"Oh, this tent has plenty of rooms in case people come over and it has basically anything a huntress could need. I designed it myself as a wedding present for your mother, Summer." I say as I toggle the different runes inscribed on the tent.

After a couple of minutes of toggling the runes, I decide that I am going to play into my theatrical side.

"Welcome to tent Potter." I say as we renter.

Ruby stares in awe at the large entryway now on display. I had designed it after the Hogwarts Entry Hall, sometimes you just need that old fashioned flair. Off to the left is the main dining hall and the door to the kitchens. On the other side is a reception area and the entry to the servant's quarters. On the side facing us is a grand stairwell leading to the second floor.

"Wow." Ruby said taking it all in.

"Just wait till you see what we have on the second floor." I say as I start leading her up the stairs.

On the second floor, there is a large domed semicircle with five double doors.

"Through the doors, going from left to right, are the hall of guests, the hall of knowledge, the hall of family, the hall of crafts, and the hall of body." I say as I stop to let her take it in.

"... What is in each hall?"

"To start off the hall of guests holds the guest bedrooms and other facilities they might need. The rooms are what you might find at one of the better hotels. The hall of knowledge is where most of the books, artifacts, and technology. The hall of family is like the hall of guests but each room is like a suite in a top-end hotel. It also holds the master bedroom which is more like a small luxury cabin than a bedroom. The hall of crafts is where most of the building utilities are, from meca-shift weapons to sewing to enchanting and potions. The last one and the one you will be seeing on an almost daily basis is the hall of body. This houses the training equipment for everything from cardio to martial arts to firearms. It also contains the medical chambers." I say before leading my daughter to her doom.

I immediately put Ruby through the wringer. I started out with a 35 km/h speed and over the 1 hour 55 min I slowly ramped it up to 40km/h. The last 5 minutes I left to have her body shift gears because we had breakfast after that. We shower and then head to the kitchen to devour our food and rest for the last five minutes until the next class.

"Ok Ruby, How do you think we will be going about this class?" I ask after we rouse ourselves from our rest and head towards the hall of crafts.

"Umm, I learn about strengths of woods and then build my wand from that?" She says with a questioning tone.

"A good guess that most would make, but no. First, we find what materials best suit your magic." I say as we pass through the hub dome.

"Huh?"

"Different materials attune to different individuals. Most wands can be a good way to judge someone's personality, so long as it was done properly. The way we do that is to have you pump your magic into different woods and see." I say as I open the door to the wand workshop.

"And see what?"

"Well, it is different for different people; overall there tends to be a feeling of rightness. For some, it will release sparks or generate a wind. Personally, with my situation I got the feeling of rightness with a warm breeze."

"What if I don't feel anything?" She asks as I set her down at the main bench.

"Then... that just makes this even more fun! I mean if you don't fit with any of the materials that means we have to search for more! Though I feel we will likely find an affinity in this group." I say as I grab out the blocks I use when making a wand for someone.

"Really? How can you be so sure?"

"Personality assessment and the fact you are my daughter." I say as I set them in front of her. "Now, I just realized something. I haven't undone the blocks on you and you have never consciously used your magic. So I will have to walk you through your first time feeling it."

I sit down by her on the bench and get into my meditative position. I motion for her to do the same.

"Now first I will release the blocks and then we can get started." I say as I gather my consciousness up and shift it to where I can feel her core. I grit my teeth as I feel the numerous blocks placed on my child.

With the sheer number of blocks placed on her, I decide to lift them from the lightest to the heaviest. My reasoning for this is it will allow her to adjust to her high level of magic with lesser doses feeding into the higher doses and making it feel more natural. As I slowly work on her bindings I take note of what degree they bind her. The lowest binds her at twenty-five percent power. The next one is twenty. Then a fifteen. Ten tens. Twenty, five percents. One hundred one percents. All of these layering on each other, leaving her with a total percentage of 7 SeptillionSeptuagintillionths percent of her magic leaving her with little more magic than a squib.

As I started lifting the last ten percent binding, I hear my daughter groan in pain. I quickly, but safely, finish it up and pull my mind back to look at my daughter. She was sweating, not a good sign.

"Sweetie, are you alright?" I say, concern littering my face.

"It just hurts a little bit, dad." She says through gritted teeth.

"This was not something I expected to happen. Your body is not used to the power in it. That would only be if..." 'He used a leaching spell.' I finish in my head.

"Well, it looks like we have even more incentive to find you a wand. Wave your hand over the blocks next to you and hand me the ones that feel right." I say starting to feel nervous.

She waves her hand over the blocks and the two I was expecting hop into her hand. I quickly rush to get the wand cores and have her repeat the process. Not even waiting to see I go grab the mock wand lengths. When I get back I learn her preferred core and have her give a quick wave of each of the wand lengths. Noting down her style I jot it down and do the rough estimates for how her training wand should be. Thankfully I knew how to create training wands from my early years at my job because it was not a wise thing for me to use the wand most suited for me because that would cause major havoc if one spell was slightly off.

Thankfully one of my wands from back then was close to a match, just needed to shave down one end a bit. Messing with the exact composition like that makes it much less efficient but that fits our purpose, we just need to burn through the energy. I grab it out and did the necessary adjustment. Grabbing Ruby I appaparate outside the tent and hand her the wand.

"OK, Ruby I need you to take this and flick it towards the woods and not towards the tent. It should release the built-up energy for a bit."

She does, I have to shield my eyes for a second and when I look she has cleared out a small chunk of the forest and lit the sides of the cleared out chunk on fire.

"What is it with me being the cause of forest fires?" I hear Ruby mutter.

Shrugging off that weird comment, due to my own track record, I ask as I walk over from where I was, "How does it feel now?"

"I can still feel that power but the force has shrunk."

"About how far does it feel you went down?" I ask to get a guess on her magical level.

"Basing it off how it feels compared to my aura..." she says glancing at me, to which I nod to the unasked question, "... It feels like I barely took the edge off. Like it was just one percent."

"Well, that is good. We might have to do this more than a couple times a day to prevent your body from overcharging." Noticing her downtrodden face I add, "At most for a couple of days."

With her looking brighter, I turn back to the devastation that was wrought. The area that was destroyed spread in a fan that was about five hundred meters deep. Waving my hand I cast a quick aquamente to put out the fire and then cast a time acceleration charm over the devastation. I use this with naturally forming terrain because a terrain created by me would be easy to pick out due to the human mind not quite being able to create a natural scene from more than one angle.

"Well now if anybody comes by they should not be able to pick out where we are." I say turning back to Ruby.

"Why do we not want them to know we are here?"

"The council has probably been doing things behind my back and they would put a hit out on me faster than a wisaka could skin a graglar if they knew I was back."

"I'll... just assume that is fast."

"Wicked fast. Anyways, we should be able to spend the rest of the time between now and lunch without doing another one of these drainings."

"But, I barely used any power? I should re..."

"Your body is not used to holding power. If you just let it flow, as I will teach you, it won't harm you too badly. In any case, we will just be having you use your wand for the first couple of these times to help you get a grip on using your magic. After that I will be teaching you go use a bit more primal method of using your magic to burn more of it off." I say as I pull her over and appaperate back into the wand workshop.

Line break

Ruby POV

The magic was really interesting especially with charms like the featherweight charm, tho the equivalent in ancient runes was much more useful. But the most interesting class was yet to come. Flying.

"Whoo, hoo!" I yell as I swoop through the air on my broom. Dad had brought me through the basics of flying and then let me learn through doing.

"IF I NEEDED ANY MORE CONFIRMATION THIS. IS. IT!" Dad yells from the ground. "LET'S BRING THIS UP A NOTCH! I WILL THROW TENNIS BALLS AND YOU NEED TO CATCH AND THROW THEM BACK!"

"Will do!" I say as I swoop into a ready position ten feet off the ground. He begins by chucking a ball twenty feet to my left and ten feet up and I easily swoop over, catch it, and throw it back.

The next one thrown goes far to my left so I have to push the broom to catch it. The next ball is thrown with no time to spare so I have to throw the other ball while racing for this next one. This speed of having no time to throw it back was practically a constant for the next half hour.

Continuing on with the rest of my training regime for today we proceed to work on relatively tame stuff due to the fact in transfiguration we talked about the theory and application of it, one of my favorite subjects is math, and I have always found gardening calming. The stretches before bed start easy and just got harder as we went, by the end of it I was trying to even get into a similar position to my dad.

"G'night, dad."

"Told you it would be torture. Though I have to say we have already covered first-year topics. Most of our training should be practical by the end of the month."

"Good NIGHT... Wait where is my room now?" I ask.

"Right-hand door from the master bedroom." Dad says as I stumble behind him into the hall of family.

"Thanks. See you in the morning." I say as I enter into my bedroom. I promptly collapse on my bed and give myself a second to gain some strength to then get up and rifle through my wardrobe to find some pajamas, get a shower, and finally collapse back onto the bed ready for a good night's sleep.
