It was exactly 2 weeks after Dumbledore's funeral that Hermione first attempted to contact Snape. It was almost cowardly of her to leave it so long, but … well… He had killed Professor Dumbledore. There was no getting around that. Plus he was with Voldemort and the Death Eater's now, would it be safe for her to contact him? And for a while she had no idea what on earth she would say.
Her parents were out and she was quite alone in the house. Hermione fumbled around with her mirror for a long time before she managed to find the courage to speak her Professor's now infamous name. Her heart thundered in her chest as she waited for a response.
But there was none.
It took her 4 days to recover. Then she tried again. And there was no response.
Maybe he'd gotten rid of his pocket watch, but somehow, she doubted it. Maybe it wasn't safe for him to respond…
She left it a week after that, and then tried again.
"Severus Snape."
His name felt like something forbidden as she spoke it.
She waited over an hour this time, but there was still no response.
Hermione sat and cried on her bed for a long time.
Please please please don't hate me for doing this! Just a little teaser of what's to come ;)
I want it to seem like a significant amount of time has passed when I post the next chapter and I thought doing this lil bit and then the rest of the chapter a few days later would be the best way to do it. Plus it's always fun to mix things up a bit!
If you really hate it like this don't worry - I probably won't do it again and I'll only leave you in suspense for a few more days!
Sorry.
Thank you.
Farewell.
Andie.
P.S I'll post responses to guest reviews when the post the full chapter.
