Ron woke up to the ruffling of the bed as Hermione grabbed the trash can and violently threw up. He sat up and gently rubbed her back and pulled her hair out of her face.
This had become their morning routine, almost every day for a few weeks at around 7:15am. As Ron had basically moved into Hermione's Head Girl room, he was used to seeing her in this state. As Hermione finished gagging, she used a spell to get rid of the remnants of her morning sickness and whispered "Accio water glass"
A glass came up from the kitchen as she rinsed her mouth, reminding herself this was all part of the deal. The nausea, the morning sickness, the cravings, the pains… it was all part of her getting their miracle baby.
Snuggling back down into bed, Ron leaned over and sleepily said, "Good morning love."
Hermione just smiled, remembering she had just spent her first night in Ron's room. Looking at Ron, she saw his disheveled fiery hair matching the Chudney Cannon themed walls, with sunlight pouring in reminding her of how little time she had spent in this room.
"We have another fun day today, you know…" Hermione said softly, tracing Ron's freckles on his arms.
"Oh yeah? And what's that?"
"Telling Harry and Gin!" she responded, softly but still excitedly, "We'll need a plan… Let's get out of the house maybe?"
"Mhmm… Maybe we can see if there's a private area of the Leaky Cauldron? This isn't exactly public news now is it."
"Oh you're right. Maybe one of us can apparate over there later and reserve something? I know we could all draw attention together like that…" Hermione responded, remembering how the trio especially became some type of celebrities after the war.
"Perfect! You're a genius Mione," giving her a quick kiss. "So I was thinking, maybe on Christmas morning we could tell the rest of the family? I know we haven't decided what to do about school, but I do want the rest of the family to know…"
"Of course Ron! Christmas morning would be perfect. And one day soon we need to sit down and start making decisions about, well honestly everything else." Hermione stated, starting to make a mental list.
With a chuckle, Ron just watched the wheels turn in her head. Knowing she would be buying more books and making lists in no time. "Sounds good love, how about we go get some breakfast?"
The idea of food had Hermione hopping right out of bed, with the baby keeping her extra hungry lately. The pair made their way downstairs, seeing Mrs. Weasley had already set out a spread of eggs, bacon, pancakes and fruit. Ron immediately loaded up his plate with an impressive mountain of pancakes and bacon, drowning it all in syrup.
Hermione looked on and inwardly giggled, grabbing herself a plate of fruit and pancakes, then making her way to the kitchen to find something. Finding garlic in a cabinet, she minced it and put it all over her pancakes, then topping it with ketchup.
'Not bad' she thought as she wrapped it up like a taco to eat. Ron just tried to ignore the scent of the strange food combination, knowing that she was capable of doing much worse. Suddenly, they heard someone come down the stairs, seeing Ginny in her workout gear. Hermione signed, knowing Ginny did her best to tire herself out to avoid the nightmares that plagued them all.
"Good morning! You're up early, anything fun going on this morning?" Ginny said with a smirk intending to embarrass the couple.
Looking at each other, Ron and Hermione both knew they had a lot less fun this morning than Ginny was trying to imply they did.
"Oh loads of fun Ginny," Hermione said sarcastically, "How about the three of us, and Harry of course, head over to the Leaky Cauldron tonight? I'll pop by later and get them to reserve a table for us."
"Bloody hell that's a perfect idea! I don't know the last time we just went out! Harry'll be so excited…" Ginny replied, grabbing her own breakfast helping. Hermione's plate caught her eye, but chose to ignore it as they had all struggled to get back to eating normally after basically being starved for months last year.
As the group apparated over to the Leaky Cauldron, Hermione led them back to a booth in the back, with dark purple curtains covered in beautiful moving stars. As they all got seated, Ron went to the bar and ordered a round of drinks, getting ready for what would hopefully be a celebratory evening.
Ron used his wand to bring the whole set of drinks over to the table, setting fire whiskies in front of Harry, Ginny and himself, with a butterbeer for Hermione. Ginny looked questionably at the glasses, but didn't say a thing.
"Well, you lot, we have some news- " Ron started, as Hermione cut him off.
"Wait! The protective charms…. At least the silencing one?" Hermione quickly put up the incantations, then resuming the conversation. "We have something to tell you both!" as she looked at Ron, nodding for him to continue.
"In a… surprise turn of events, well Hermione is pregnant!" Ron said with the proudest smile plastered across his face.
Ginny squealed as Harry looked dumbfounded, "Wait, I thought that you couldn't after…"
Hermione started shaking her head, "Right?! That's what we were told. I mean obviously this was an accident," she said nervously, rubbing the back of her neck, "But the healer said this would probably be our only chance at it, so here we are!"
Soon the group was toasting to the new addition to their group, as the girls broke off into conversation about symptoms and baby names while the boys discussed rumors of the Ministry allowing students who fought in the war to go straight to Auror training after they passed their Newts.
"Wait!" Ginny whisper-shouted, "So is this a secret?"
Ron and Hermione looked at eachother, not exactly sure what to say. "Well, er, mum and dad know?" Ron stammered.
"But what about school? Do you think McGonagall will let you stay Head Girl?" Harry questioned, getting to the part Hermione was trying to avoid.
"I don't think we've necessarily decided on what's to happen there? I'm not due until July… Actually it's two weeks before your birthday Harry," Hermione smiled weakly, "I'm hoping to maybe tell McGonagall the situation, and just keep it hidden the rest of the term. Or at least as long as I can?"
"She will totally understand! After all you two did during the war? Especially with your health… I think you'll be okay." Ginny said understandingly.
"Oh I hope so."
"So no one really knows yet, so don't let it slip! We are telling the rest of the family on Christmas morning." Ron stated with a smile, "And thank you guys… for being understanding. I know it's a bit of a shock, but going from kind of mourning the idea of having a family ever to now having one has been bloody wild!"
"Of course mate, we all had to grow up so fast. it just makes sense for you to do this now." Harry said understandingly, squeezing Ginny's hand under the table, almost as if to let her know that someday he wants a family with her too.
As they all finished their drinks, they apparated back to the Burrow, getting ready for the remaining 3 days before Christmas when everyone would know their little surprise.
