"Hi Aline, how have you been?" Jace walked across the room and sat down in the empty chair across from her. He was 6'2" chiseled abs, not that anyone could see that through his white Armani button down shirt. He wore a tailored navy-blue suit that accentuated the gold of both his eyes and shaggy hair. His feet were adorned with a pair of freshly polished Gucci Loafers. The top two buttons of his shirt were undone to give him the appearance of being a bad boy. And no tie, Jace hated wearing ties.
"Not as great as you. So Jace I hear that you may have some big news for us?" Aline questioned leaning into him. He had known Aline since he first came to LA, they traveled in the same circles. Aline was a beautiful, average height, woman or Asian descent. She had long black hair like Izzy and doe eyes, like someone he care not mention. She wouldn't be what you would consider voluptuous, Jace knew he would fuck her if he didn't have other obligations. Thinking like that he had to adjust himself. Down boy he said to himself.
Jace turned to her with a smile on his face and replied, " Aline how did you know?"
"I have little birdies everywhere, now spill; we all want to know if the rumors are true"
"Yes the rumors are true, I would like to announce that I will be slowing down my acting career in order to take over my family company. That is, not to say I will no longer act, but I will be taking fewer roles in the future. Acting will always be my passion" At 24 Jace had accomplished more than he could have ever imagined, but the Herondale production corporation needed him. He needed to step up to as CEO to honor his parents. He knew his parents would be proud of him. Well as far as his career went anyways.
Aline rolled her eyes and sighed "That was not the news I was interested in; I thought I heard wedding bells in your future"
"Oh" with that Jace felt slightly uncomfortable, he let out a nervous chuckle. His hands fidgeted in his lap.
"So is it true"
"Yes, I asked Kaeli to be my wife and she agreed" he announced with his best fake smile. No one was supposed to know about that yet, he still had things he needed to sort out.
"That's Kaeli Whitewillow the international model correct? Tell me about her, how did you meet"
"Yeah that's her. Well actually we met in high school but reconnected a couple years back. She was really there for me during a dark time in my life, she helped pull me out the shadows" He said with a resigned look.
"Oh my, I had no idea Kaeli was your high school sweetheart how cute. I can't wait to talk to the women who tamed Jace Herondale's heart. With that Jace thank you for coming, good luck on your engagement" Jace smiled to the camera and waved to the audience.
It was morning, and Clary has fallen asleep awkwardly on the couch with the tv on. When she woke she saw an early morning news segment with none other than Mr. Heartbreak himself, Jace Herondale. She didn't mean to watch it but she was curious none the less. She knew Jace had become a famous actor starring the Immortal Solider series then later the drama City of Ashes. He had done quite well for himself and she was happy he was successful. He looked happy, didn't he?
Clary turned off the tv with a lump in her throat. She hadn't meant to watch that; she knew it would only hurt her more. Kaeli his high school sweetheart really. Had she truly meant so little to him, had the three years they spent together meant nothing. He knew she hated Kaeli after she tried to destroy Clary and his relationship throughout highs school. She pulled at the chain from around her neck and looked at the ring that dangled from it. She didn't know why she kept her engagement ring, maybe she hoped that one day they would work things out. Now she wasn't so certain. She felt tears welling in her eyes, prepared to fall. She needed to stay strong, she had promised herself she would never cry for Jace Herondale again.
"Mommy what wrong?"
"Yeah mommy why do you look so sad?"
She looked up two see her children looking at her with worry in their eyes. The little girl, Gianna Celine Fray, was beautiful. Clary worried about how she was going to handle all the boys when she got older, it would be hard to keep them away if they were anything like her father. The little girl had long wavy hair that was golden blonde with a tinge of red. Her face was pale, lightly freckled and she had the soft delicate features of her mother. She had golden eyes like her father, that anyone could get lost in. The little boy, Christopher Stephen Fray, was all Jace, well except for his eyes. He had the bone structure to rival a miniature Adonis and shaggy blond hair that reached it ears. His skin was golden and shined even without the sun. His eyes though were a pure emerald full of hope and imagination. Both children inherited Jace's signature smirk and brandished it as a weapon.
She turned to look at her children, putting on a brave face, she had to be strong for them. "Why do you think mommy is sad?"
"Your always sad when you take out your ring mommy" Christopher said with worry in his eyes.
"And your eye look like they are about to rain" said Gigi quietly.
"Mommy is alright, she just saw someone she loved on TV and it made her miss him"
"If you love him, why don't you just tell him, so you don't have be so sad anymore" asked Christopher.
"Honey, he doesn't want to talk to mommy, I am not sure mommy wants to talk to him either" she tried to explain to her almost five-year olds.
"Chris and I could both give him the puppy eyes, then he will want to talk to you mommy. That always works for us" Gigi tried to assure her.
"Does it know?" Clary raised her eyebrows and smiled. Her kids were manipulative, they got it from Jace too. "No mommy doesn't need you to give him the eyes. What did mommy tell you to do if you ever see him?"
Her children glanced at the screen where there was still a picture of Jace.
"You told us not to talk to him and to get whichever adult we are with" they said together
She put her hands on her hips "Good, now go get ready for school. Brush your teeth and put on your clothes, I'll be up there in a minute. After that we can have breakfast whatever you want"
"Can we have pancakes" Christopher squealed excitedly.
Clary put one finger to her lips, pretending to think." Mmmmmm, yes you can have pancakes" she smiled, "now go get ready." They turned and dashed up the stairs, how did she get so lucky to have such wonderful kids
She was startled out of her reverie when her phone began to ring on the kitchen countertop. She answered it without looking.
"Hello" Clary. She recognized the voice on the other side of the line immediately.
"I just wanted to confirm that the kids were staying with me this weekend, I miss my grandbabies so much" the women on the other side of the phones asked giddily. She could almost imagine the grin that must be on the women's face. She loved those kids as much as Clary did.
For the first time all morning a genuine smile spread across clary's face. A small ghost of a smile but a smile non the less. "Yeah I will drop them off afterschool today around 5". Clary sighed she felt guilty, never wanting to be apart from her children for any amount of time. "You know you don't have to do this; I can call and tell Izzy and Si I can't make it"
"Nonsense" exclaimed the women "You need this break, honey your exhausting yourself. All you do is work and stay in with the kids, you have no life outside of that. When is the last time you went on a date or spent time with your friends, no children. Clarissa it is not selfish to want a life, to can have fun without them" she said in a gentle voice. "Plus you would not deny me my time with those two peanuts would you?" she added on in an almost incredulous tone.
"No"
"Ok then, one other thing" the women spoke so quietly Clary could barely hear her, "Did you watch the interview? Is that why you sound so sad?"
"Yeah, I saw most of it" as Clary spoke her voice cracked.
"I am so sorry sweetheart, I was hoping you wouldn't find out like that. He just called me myself to tell me about the engagement. I don't even know how she managed to weasel herself back into his life"
Clary shrugged knowing that the women couldn't see it. "I don't care as long as she stays out of my children's lives. It doesn't matter to me" she lied. "So help me, she will never breathe the same air as them" She said with a little edge to her voice.
"I know honey, I know. Looked he moved on, you need to also. You cannot wait for him to realize he made a mistake. So, no more sulking. Why don't you go out with Sebastian, he worships the ground you walk on?"
"He is just a friend" she said resigned
"Maybe it is time you gave him a chance"
"Ok, I'll think about it"
"That's all I ask; I just want to see you happy again"
"I know Maryse, look I got to go, see you at 5" with that she ended the call. Maryse had been a second mother to her ever since her own mother passed while she was pregnant. She took care Clary and was there when the twins were born. She helped navigate her through single parenthood, not to say she was happy about the situation, but she knew this was not Clary's fault. It was all a misunderstanding gone horribly awry.
Clary still felt the guilty for him not knowing about his children. Children that brought so much joy to Clary's life, they brightened her bleak existence after he left. She didn't know if he had wanted them or not, she tried to tell him, but he wouldn't listen. What more could she do.
*Flashback*
5 years ago, night after the party
The night after the party she went to her and Jace's apartment. She tried to use her key, but he must have changed the locks. It was really his apartment but she moved in with him about a year ago. She knocked "Jace, Jace" she called out but no one answered. She wasn't sure if he was home or not but her back slid down against the door and she cried. She spoke into the door "Jace it isn't what you think, I didn't cheat on you." She said though sobs " I'm I'm pregnant " she didn't hear anything on the other side of the door, there was no one there. Izzy told her not to come that it was a bad idea, but she needed to talk to him, to explain. She called and called and left 10 voicemails telling what happened begging him to let her explain but he never picked up. Soon her calls went straight to the dial tone and she knew he blocked her. Little did she know he had already left that afternoon to move to Los Angeles He never listened to any of her messages, except the first begging him to let her explain. He deleted all her subsequent voicemails leaving them unheard. There was no one there, she was speaking to the ghost of what was.
It wasn't until the next, when boxes were delivered to Seb's house containing all her belongings that she knew things were over. They were over. Seb had given her a chain to wear her engagement ring around her neck, a symbol of perseverance. That she was strong and could get through this, but for her it was a talisman representing his heart. She tried to get in contact with Jace but failed miserably. He blocked her and Seb on all social media and she wasn't going to put his family in the middle of this shit storm. She tried to get in contact with his management but there was no budge. Seb told her she could stay with him as long as she need, and she agreed.
For the first month she refused to leave her room, she barely atet, she couldn't sleep, she couldn't believe he was gone. That he left her alone, she thought he loved her for better or for worse. I guess when worse came he decided she wasn't worth it. She cried and cried until she had no more tears to give. Izzy and Seb checked on her throughout the days encouraging her to eat. Telling her that is wasn't just herself that needed to eat but the baby also. So, she ate what she could, because the baby inside of her made her feel like she in some way she still had a part of his heart. She never wanted that feeling to go away.

Maryse was right there was someone who was always there for her like they promised.
After she dropped the kids off at school she dialed Seb. It rang twice before he was answered.
"Hey Red how is it going" He answered with a deep husky voice.
" I I umm ..short notice .. trip .. week weekend" she mumbled out so low and fast that she couldn't possibly hear what she said.
"Red calm down, you have known me for years. Breath, now what did you say"
She sighed "Seb, I asked if you wanted to go to the Hamptons with me Izzy and Simon this weekend. I know its short notice". To say she was nervous would be an understatement. There was silence on the other side of the phone as she waited. "Don't worry about it Seb, you don't have to come" as she said it, she could feel her face fall.
"No no Clary, I would love to join you. I just need to clear my calendar for the weekend. What about the kids"
"They are staying with Maryse this weekend"
"Ok Clary, I am about to head into a meeting, just text me the details and I will be there. See you later". As the call ended her face beamed. Maybe things were going to be ok after all.

"Darling you look radiant, what's gotten into you? Or maybe I should who?" the man before her wiggled his eyebrows. To call him flamboyant was an understatement, he was practically a peacock. Or more so a peacock that took a bath in glitter. The man was close to six feet tall, of Malaysian descent. He styled his hair with just enough of a spike to look both dignified and edgy. He accompanied an intricately beaded hot pink kaftan, that reached his mid-thigh, with an equally gaudy pair of tight black leather pants. Clearly, when he woke up, he decided to spray glitter all over his body. He always told her he did the to look like Edward Cullen, to dazzle the world with his beauty. She would never change him, she loved him for all the exuberance he presented.
"Hey Magnus, is there any glitter left in the world? Or is it just all over your body" she smirked.
Clary met Magnus at her art exhibit when she was five months pregnant with the twins. He was a fashion designer looking for an artist to created beautiful textiles for his designs. He had found her designs interesting and entrancing, dark but beautiful. He commissioned her to make her first textile inspired by one of her painting about Jace. From that piece of cloth Magnus created a whole collection that had everyone in the world vying for her talents. I guess you could say Magnus began her career as one of the premiere textile designers in the fashion industry. She designed lace and graphic prints on the finest silks and satins, among other things. Her textiles could be seen in Gucci, Channel, Saint Laurent and Tom Ford just to name a few. Everyone wanted her designs, so she decided to open her own textile shop, that Magnus visited daily. He claimed it was so that he could get first picks of new textiles, but she knew he craved her company.
Clary had done well for herself; she was able to buy her and the kids a beautiful townhouse in Brooklyn. Three stories, modern and clean, but warm and inviting. It hosted 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms and had a kitchen to die. It wasn't much but it was theirs. Honestly, she got the house for the kids so they could have a backyard to run around in. She wanted them to have as normal of an upbringing as possible. Which is why she didn't use her real name for her art or her textile shop. She went by the alias Adele Fairchild. She didn't want the children to be exposed to the lifestyle of the rich and famous. She wanted them safe out of the prying eyes of paparazzi. She kept a low profile for many reasons, but mostly she wanted Jace to know nothing about her life. When she heard that he made his family promise never to speak of her, or of him to her, Clary made them promise the exact same to her. If they wanted to remain in the children's lives, they were not allowed to reveal their existence to Jace. Maybe it was petty, but she never said she didn't have a temper.
"I would say you could use some yourself biscuit but you're practically glowing. Tell me is it a boy? OO what's his name? Is he gorgeous? Does he have a big-"?
At that Clary stopped him placing her small hand over his mouth "Mags it's just Seb, he said he would go with me to the Hamptons this weekend. Remember Iz and Si, invited me for a little R & R without the kids. Maryse suggested maybe I give him a chance, so I think that is what ill do. It's time to get back on the proverbial horse. Ya know, I can't be alone forever, and he has always been there for me. He derives for me to give us a shot."
"Biscuit, I don't know that he is the right guy for you… If he makes you happy though I am happy. Your happiness is all that matters" Magnus said resigned, he didn't like that Verlac but he just could figure out why. He knew Izzy had similar feeling, but neither would dare broach this Clary. She had already been hurt enough.
"Thanks, Mags" She wasn't quite sure how she felt about Seb. She knew she loved him but was it that kind of love. Was it the kind that set the world on fire just by a single touch, the kind you were willing to let the world burn for, just so you could find it in the ashes? That's the kind of love she felt for Jace. All she knew was she would give it a try, who knew maybe one day it might turn into that kind of all-encompassing love.
"Anytime biscuit"

JPOV
"She wasn't supposed to ask about Keali" he shouted, slamming his fist into the arm of the makeup chair. " You promised this was supposed to be about my career shift" he was seething. "Hodge how the fuck did they even know about the engagement, it only happened two days ago. I haven't even had a chance to tell my family" He roared at his PR guy.
The short man pudgy man shrugged he had no idea "Maybe Kaeli said something?"
"She wouldn't, she promised she wouldn't say anything until after I told my family" he huffed.
"If you say so" Hodge mumbled under his breath so that no one but Alec could hear.
Alec was Jace's brother along with Max Lightwood. Alec was six feet tall, with blue eyes as deep as the ocean. He had black hair that went to his ear and the face of every storybook prince. He was quiet and shy, usually keeping his voicing his opinions to his brother. But on this occasion, he said nothing, he personally wouldn't put it past Kaeli to leak the information. For some reason Jace thinks she has changed but Alec wasn't quite so sure about that. He didn't know but something just didn't feel right, for now he would just keep a careful eye on Jace.
"And what the fuck was that line about high school sweethearts, we were never high school sweetheart. Sure, we messed around but we were never that serious" He couldn't help it, his mind shifted to Clary, now she was his high school sweetheart. She was the only women he ever truly loved completely. I mean but look what that got him, nothing but heart ache. I mean he tried to give his heart to Kaeli but for all his might he couldn't shake the love he still had for that red head. It didn't help that ever since he and Kaeli began to date his relationship with his family began to become strained. It was never his intention to be with Kaeli, it just happened one day.
*Flashback*
2 years prior
Jace was at a club, he was too drunk to even know which club he was at, all he knew was that he needed to get laid. He scanned the room like a lion stalking its prey. He didn't realize that at that exact moment someone was doing the same to him. That's when he saw her. In the middle of the dance floor, wiggling her hips in a group of friends. Her tight black dress has thing spaghetti straps and barely covered her ass. Two things Jace loved; spaghetti and clothes that barely cover women's asses. She was beautiful, at least from the side she was. She had long blond hair, endearing blue eyes. Her body curves in all the right places, mounds that he definitely wanted to feel. She was sexy and she would be his tonight.
"Hey Alec I may or may not be right back" he said to his adoptive brother with a wink and a smirk.
Alec rolled his eyes and looked at Jace amused.
He made way to the beautiful blonde. Once he was behind her, he wrapped his arms around her waist and griound himself against her perky ass. Soon she tilted her neck to the side and he began to pepper her neck in kisses. He whispered in her ear all the things he wanted to do to her. Subtle was not in Jace's vocabulary especially when he completely trashed. He kissed her as she rubbed her ass against his hardening cock, Jace let out a moan. He whispered in her ear, asking if she wanted to get out of there.
To this she turned around and replied "Oh Jacey, I thought you would never ask". Shit! how was he so drunk he didn't recognize Kaeli. He had two options he could run for the hills because that bitch was crazy, or he could take her home for old times sake. Do you even have to ask which option he chose? In the taxi his lips crashed in hers, he pressed his tongue against her lower lips begging for an entrance into her mouth. To which she happily obliged. Their tongues battle for dominance he caressed his hands all over her body. Moving from her face to her breasts, to her perky ass and back again. She tasted of tequila and bubblegum. She slipped her hand under the waist band of his jeans and he could feel like cock twitch with desire. He wanted more, he needed more.
When the taxi finally arrived at his house, he impatiently threw the fair at the driver not even bothering it count it. He knew he gave the man more than enough. Their lips never left each other as they stumbled through the front door and up the stairs to his bedroom. How they managed to do that shocked even him. He backed her up onto the bed and she crawled to the center. He was about to remover her shirt when she asked, "Jacey can I use your bathroom to freshen up?" in a sultry voice.
He directed her to the door on the right and she entered the bathroom. As she closed the door, he couldn't help but think maybe this was a mistake. It didn't matter in the end because he ended up passing out in his bed with all his clothes on.
When he woke up his head was pounding, he was glad he invested in blackout curtains. He was warm and there was a body draped across his chest. He opened his eyes and peaked blonde hair under his chin. He couldn't remember what happened last night, he wasn't shocked to find a beautiful woman in his bed. I mean he was Jace Herondale, Hollywood heart throb. Honestly if he woke up and there wasn't a woman in his bed, he would be shocked. She wore one of his old t-shirts and he wore only a pair of sweatpants. He moved her hair out her face and realized who it was. Shit Kaeli, uhg what did he do. She must have felt him wake up because she tilted her head look back into golden eyes. "Morning Jacey" she grumbled against his chest. Shit Shit Shit.
"Uh Kaeli, what happened? Did we uh?" part of him was praying they had sex and the other part was hoping that they didn't. Uhg this would piss Clary off so much, she hated Kaeli. Wait did he care what Clary thought. He concluded that he didn't, but he prayed to the angel she never found out. Shit.
"No we didn't, by the time I came back from the bathroom you were passed out in the bed. You looked so peaceful I didn't want to disturb you, so I changed our clothes and climbed into the bed with you. I hope you don't mind."
Thank the angel he thought "Hey Kaeli, I don't mean do be a dick but I don't think that me and you is a good idea". She didn't get upset she just got up out of his bed and went to grab her clothes to leave. God he felt like such an asshole
"Kaeli wait, stay for breakfast"
That's how he found himself sitting downstairs in his kitchen eating eggs and bacon catching up with Kaeli about their lives. He found out that she worked as a model like Izzy and came to LA to work with a new management team. They talked for hours and decided to keep in touch. Kaeli had changed she wasn't that bad. She wasn't whiney and needy anymore; she was calm and laid back. Calm and laid back was exactly what Jace needed in his life
*End Flashback*
He spent another year fucking around and drinking till he could remember, but that never filled the hole in his heart that Clary left. Whenever he needed some to talk to or he just needed a quiet place to be he called Kaeli. She was always there for him, never asked questions, never judged him. She was just there to comfort him. It wasn't until a year after their chance meeting at the club that he asked her out on a proper date, it was six months later that he asked her to move in. He wasn't sure if he wanted to marry her, but she kept badgering him. All he knew was that he didn't want to lose her. He was content with their life together. Was he set the world on fire in love with her? No, he only ever felt that in love with Clary with Clary. He hoped that one day he might have that with Kaeli to, she was a wonderful woman and she deserved the world.
He heard his phone ring and he answered it with a sigh "Yeah Kay, I know I guess its official, the whole world knows now" He heard and excited squeal on the other end of the phone. He had to hold the phone away from ear for fear of losing his hearing.
"Hey, remember I am going to be out of town next weekend for Izzy's engagement party"
"But Jacey, I want to come too" he heard her pout.
"I know Kay, but you know she doesn't like you. I don't want to make the situation even more uncomfortable, it's a party in her honor Afterall". In all honesty to say that Izzy didn't like Kaeli was an understatement. She simply hated Kaeli ever since freshman year of highschool. She, along with the rest of his family, wouldn't listen when he explained to the that Kaeli had changed and that she was different. The only person who slightly understood was Alec, but he simply tolerated her presence. "Just give them time, they will love you because I love you. You are to be after all"
"But Jacey its been a year" she shrieked. God he hated that nickname.
"I know, I know. I will talk to them at the party. How about I make it up to you when I get back"
"Oh, I know you will, All. Night. Long "she said in such a sultry voice he felt his pants tighten.
"Kay don't do that you know I'm working. I can't focus when you say those things and use that voice"
"What voice?" she replies innocently "See you later Jace" and she hung up the phone.
What was he going to do? He really loved Kaeli and he knew one day he might possibly be able to love as much as he loved Clary, but that just wasn't the case currently. I mean it's been five years he growled to himself, why could he shake this bitch out of his head. She cheated on him, she broke his heart, he moved on. So why does the thought of her still light up his universe like no one else could. Deep in the recesses of his mind he thought maybe I made a mistake not talking to her, but that couldn't be true he talked to Sebastian himself. God he was fucked.
"I need a drink" he exclaimed to Alec, "And make it strong, none of that watered-down bullshit"
