The cool shower water hits Lane's skin and she can already feel the beer scent leaving her skin. The only thing that could make this better was if the water was actually hot but you can't always get everything you want, I guess.

After she and JJ got John B back to the Chateau safe and sound, and he had even woken up briefly to tell them that he was fine, she decided she was going to go home and JJ was going to go with her. The events of the night flash in her mind as she ducks her head under the showerhead, closing her eyes as she feels the water run down her face. She obviously would have preferred if JJ hadn't pulled the gun out, but she knew deep down he was only doing it to help, and sometimes the way he chose to help was very outlandish. But, when life gives you Topper you...put a gun to his head, apparently. He ranted about it the whole way back to her house, even as they were climbing in through her bedroom window because she really didn't want to hear it from Lawson right now.

"Pope and Kie are never going to stop giving me shit about this." The blond teenager groans as he's laying down on top of her covers when she comes back into her bedroom, closing the door behind her. She was wearing one of her dad's old college t-shirts and shorts, her wet hair falling just past her collarbones. She was grateful to smell like her coconut conditioner instead of beer.

"They'll stop eventually," Lane assures him while she brushes her hair out, "after you do something else ridiculous and they start giving you shit for that."

He turns his head to the side to look at her, "Not helping, Fallon." He mutters.

"I know, sorry." She holds her hands up, "Just trying to look on the bright side." She sits down on the edge of her bed, sort of in the middle next to his waist.

"It just bothers me sometimes." He sighs, looking up at her ceiling where she had pictures of them printed and taped, "You know, they have a lot going for them I get it. Kie is already rich as fuck and Pope is a golden boy." Lane turns to look down at his face, "But me, you, and John B? We got nothing to lose. And when those fucking kooks treat us like trash I don't see why we can't fight back." She nods in understanding, chewing on her lip, "Especially with the way Topper treated you." He looks at her and they hold eye contact, "Who does he think he is? Spilling that drink on you like that. He would have reacted the same way if I had spilled that drink on Sarah."

Lane can't help but blush a little bit. It wasn't a huge deal but he did just directly compare them to Topper and Sarah...who were a couple...ANYWAY. "I know you were just trying to help, JJ. Topper was gonna drown John B if you didn't do something." She whispers, "Kie and Pope will calm down." She brushes some hair off his forehead, "Tensions were high all across the board tonight, once everyone gets a good night sleep we'll be okay." She promises.

"Speaking of which," He sits up, "I should probably head home." He says a little sadly.

"Are you sure?" She asks him, "It's pretty late. You could just stay if you wanted." She offers casually. It wouldn't be the first time he stayed in her bed, a lot of times if his dad was especially bad he would come over to her place and sleep there if he didn't want to bother John B for some reason. And she was also better at comforting him than John B was if he was being honest. And she smelled better.

"Are you sure?" He asks his, but he's already laying back down

"Yeah." She shrugs, sliding under the sheets, "I just have to work in the morning, but you can sleep for however long and just leave out the window when you want to leave." She tells him, "And scoot over," She giggles, pushing him closer to the window, "You're too warm."

"Oh do I make it to hot in here?" He teases her as she lays down with her back towards him.

"Not in the way you like to think." She says, "You're like a furnace." She stretches her long legs out.

"Jesus!" He jumps when her foot touches his ankle, "Your feet are freezing."

She giggles, her eyes already closed, "Goodnight, JJ." She says softly.

He sighs after a minute, "Night, Fallon."

Lane's alarm goes off around five in the morning and she silences it quickly, hoping she doesn't wake JJ up. She carefully climbs out of bed before turning to look at him. He was sleeping soundly on his stomach, having shed his shirt in the middle of the night. She liked to see him like this, completely at ease and relaxed. She gets dressed, a bikini on under her work clothes as always, and she ties her hair up. She was fine changing in front of JJ if she knew he was sound asleep. "Hey," She says softly, tapping his back, "I'm leaving. I'll see you later, okay?" He only groans in response and Lane smiles to herself as she picks up her backpack and heads out the front door.

Her bike ride to the cafe wasn't too shabby. While she wished she had a car to make it a lot faster when she put her headphones in and some good music on, the early morning breeze hitting whatever skin was exposed made it a lot easier to bear. She was opening to the cafe today which meant she was alone for about thirty minutes to get everything set up before any customers or fellow workers would come in. She often cherished this time when she was alone in the shop, the sun barely has risen and her own music playing versus the weird zen shit they always made them play during business hours.

It's a couple of hours into her shift and it's relatively slow. She had another barista with her now which was making time go by a little bit faster since she had someone to converse with. All was going smoothly until the door opens and in strolls none other than Rafe Cameron, Topper, and Kels. And, of course, she was on the register. She sticks her tongue against the inside of her cheek and plasters on a smile, "Hi there!" Her customer service voice is two octaves above her normal voice, "What can I get for you gentlemen?" Her tone is laced with poison and hatred.

"Is that, Fallon Adair?" Rafe gasps, placing a hand over his heart, "Why I think it's been ages since I saw you."

"No, it really hasn't been that long I just think you were too high to remember." Her voice is still painfully sweet and wipes the cocky grin right off Rafe's face. Lane knew of Rafe's cocaine problem first hand. One time she had been invited to a Figure Eight party by her ex-boyfriend and she saw him doing line after line on the coffee table.

"Your hair looks great this morning, Lane, did you do something new to it?" Topper asks, "Maybe put something new in it." She knows he's referring to the beer he spilt in it last night but she isn't giving any of these boys satisfaction today.

"You know, fellas, I hate to be like this but this cafe is for paying customers only." She says, "So if you aren't going to be buying anything I suggest you leave." Her grin still never falters.

"Alright, three coffees then," Rafe says, pulling out his wallet.

"Oh shoot," She snaps her fingers, "We don't have coffee." She tells him.

"Then what the hell is that?" He asks, pointing to the pot of coffee behind her.

"Oh, that?" She asks, "Yeah we have that coffee but we don't have coffee for you." She explains to him slowly.

"You can't just not sell us coffee." Kels scoffs at her in disbelief.

"Actually, I can." She points to a sign on the counter in front of her that clearly states she has the right to refuse business to anyone.

"Whatever, let's just go." Topper nudges Rafe as he angrily slides his wallet full of daddy's money back into his pocket and mutters 'bitch' under his breath as they head toward the door.

"Have a nice day! It's supposed to be beautiful, make sure you get out and enjoy the water!" She waves to them and then her smile falls as soon as they're out of the building, "And drown in it."

"I'll see you tomorrow, Lisa!" Fallon waves goodbye to her co-worker as she leaves the cafe at the end of her shift, grabbing her bike outside and hopping on. She had been trying to shake off her encounter with three certain kooks for the rest of her shift but it was kind of hard. They always manage to get under her skin and she was starting to justify JJ's move last night more and more.

Her exhaustion is starting to set in as she rides her back in the direction of her house, but a familiar group of yells over by the water catches her attention, causing her to look in that direction. Sure enough, there's the HMS Pogue full of her friends who are waving their arms, trying to get her attention. She chuckles, chaining her bike up to a nearby stand and jogging down the dock where they pull up.

"If it isn't the best barista in the OBX." John B teases her.

"Yikes, you look rough." She motions to his black eye, "What's with the scuba tanks?" She asks them.

"We're going to check out the cargo hold in Scooter's boat," JJ explains, walking over to the edge of the boat

"Ooooh, some gold old fashion loot hunting." She smiles, "I'm in." JJ offers his hand and she takes it, hopping onto the boat, "Have we all made up today?"

"For now," Kie says in direction of JJ but it was all jokes, of course.

"How was work?" Pope asks as Lane slips her converse off. She had already forgotten about her shit morning the second she saw her friends but it all came flooding back now.

"Oh you know, clueless tourons and bitchy kooks." She shrugs, "Same old, same old." JJ eyes her because he can tell there's more behind that but he isn't going to pry right now. He could always tell when something was on her mind, even when she thought she was the best at hiding it.

Once they get to the spot of the wreck, Kie starts to examine the tanks that John B took from Ward Cameron, "These are empty, you took empty tanks." She looks at the complete idiot, "Okay, this one's a quarter full." she sighs, "it's enough for one of us."

"Love it when a plan comes together." Pope says bitterly and Lane nudges him a little.

"Does anybody know how to dive?" The boat is way too silent, "Anybody?" Kie asks again.

"It's kind of a kook sport." JJ explains.

"I...read about it." Pope hesitantly raises his hand

"Great, Pope read about it, so someone's gonna die." Kie obviously did not come up with this plan nor did she really approve of it.

"Look, you put the thing in your mouth and breathe. How hard can it be?" JJ points out

"If you come up too fast nitrogen gets in your blood and you get the bends." The...What?

"Bends like," JJ holds onto the pole and bends his body over, his butt sticking out, "bend over..."

"The bends kill you." Pope clarifies.

"I can-I can dive." John B raises his hand

"Yeah, he can dive." Lane points at him, "I'm cool with that."

"Since when can you dive?" Kie asks him.

"Let me do some calculations real quick." Pope says and Kie looks anything but pleased. "So that boats about 30 feet down, so that'll take about 25 minutes at that depth, which means you need to make your safety spot at about 10 feet down." Pope explains to John B who is trying to take in this information as quickly as Pope is spitting it out. "For two minutes."

While they're all absorbing this, Kie pulls her t-shirt off over her head and jumps own into the water with it, "What was that all about?" Lane frowns

"I don't know. But I liked it, a lot." JJ says, looking longingly at the water where Kie just dove. The boys all clear their throats and shake their heads out, to which Lane rolls her eyes, "Yeah, so, when you're down there," JJ changes the subject, "You look for the cargo hold." He holds up his dad's skeleton key, "You stick this thing inside and twist and pulls, okay?" He explains to John B.

Kie emerges from the water, "Hey," She calls, "I tied my t-shirt to the anchor chain about ten feet down." She explains, "It's where you need to do your safety stop." That explains her abrupt dive.

"Keep an eye on this," Pope holds up one of the meters attached to the tank, "You need to make sure you have enough air to decompress."

"Okay, how much do I need?" John B asks

"Unclear." Pope says honestly, "Just breathe as little as possible." solid advice

"Zen." JJ pipes up, "Think zen, you know?" He imitates what breathing should look like when you're "zen".

"Be careful, loser." Lane walks over to him, smacking a hand onto his shoulder, "Don't leave me alone with these idiots." She warns him, "Also if we get caught out here in the marsh we're basically screwed, so...better get a move on." She steps back to allow him to get into position.

But, Kie takes her spot and presses a quick kiss to his cheek, shocking basically everyone on the boat except for herself, "Diver down?" John B asks

"Diver down." She clarifies before stepping back so he can jump down into the water. When Kie turns around, Lane is giving her a pointed look with raised eyebrows, "Shut up." Kie hisses at her.

Lane gasps, "I didn't say anything." She pouts a little bit as she moves to watch the water. It's only a couple minutes into his dive when they hear the all too familiar siren sound which basically means they're fucked.

"Just act frickin normal." Kie flips her hair over her shoulder and leans back to act relaxed in the boat. Lane plops down next to her, also trying to act relaxed but she couldn't hide the fact that her hands were shaking.

The officers pull their boat right up next to theirs and JJ ties off their rope so they stay in place. "How you kids doing?" Deputy Shoupe takes off his sunglasses, "You know the marsh is closed?" He asks

"What?" They all act dumb,"No, we had no idea." They all shake their heads, "Why is it closed?" Lane asks

"Well, we're conducting a search out here. Boat went down." He explains, eyeing them suspiciously, "Seen anything?" He asks them.

"No. No boats." Pope shakes his head along with JJ.

"Where's your friend you always hang with? He here?" Shoupe asks

"Uh, no he's working." Lane speaks up. Deputy Shoupe comes on board to "check their little boat out" and it's probably the most stressful minute and a half they've all experienced in a very long time. There was no way John B hadn't run out of the air at this point.

"Alright," Finally, the deputy was down staring out into the water and started to head back to his own boat, "Let us know if you see anything on your way out."

"Will do." Lane grins at them, "You all have a great day." She waves them off and as soon as they're out of sight they all rush to the edge of the boat.

"He's definitely out of air," Pope states the obvious.

It's a long couple of seconds before John B's head pops up on the surface and they all sigh in relief, "There he is!" JJ cheers.

"Jesus Christ." Pope is almost about to collapse from the relief.

"How'd it go down there?" JJ asks, moving around the boat to help him up, "Did you find anything?"

"Did I find anything?" John B repeats like it's the stupidest question and flings a duffle bag up onto the boat.

"Holy shit!" Lane gasps in excitement

"That's my boy!" JJ adds

"You okay?" Kie asks as John catches his breath

"Yeah, I ran out of air." He pants.

"You scared the shit out of me." Kie tells him. Lane smacks JJ's hands away for the bag, telling him to wait to open it.

She happens to look up and behind them in the marsh,"UH, guys," She frowns at the boat quickly approaching them, "Guys, bogey two o'clock." She warns them

"What?" They all turn to look and immediately see what she sees. "Do you recognize that boat?" Pope asks

"Never seen it." Kie says, "What are they doing back here? The marsh is closed." Which could only mean that they were doing exactly what the pogues were doing-something they shouldn't.

"I don't know," JJ says, moving to pull the anchor chain up, "but let's not stick around to find out." He says, trying to pull the anchor up as fast as he can but they're getting closer.

"JJ, hurry up." Kie says

"Guys, don't wait for me." He says urgently and John B jumps behind the wheel, starting up the boat as the anchor comes on board.

"I don't like the look of this." John B says

"Then drive!" Lane snaps a little bit, "Go into the marsh."

"I'm going." He hisses back at her, "Everyone act natural."

As the Pogues start to speed up, so do the random guys in the boat behind them, following them into the marsh. "Guys, they're following us." Kie warns.

"Dude, you gotta go faster!" JJ says to John B over the sounds of boat engines and waves crashing. "Gun it!"

"I'm going!" They take a wide turn and John B has the boat going almost as fast as it can. Lane is at the back of the boat, watching the two guys closely. She only realizees that one of them has a gun before she can warn anyone else and they're already shooting at them.

"Holy shit!" Everyone hits the deck as soon as the first shot is fired, JJ's arm going around Lane's back since she was closest to him. They were still gaining on them and shooting at them so she takes matters into her own hands, spotting the fishing net.

"Pope, move." She stands up and steps over him to grab it

"Lane! What the hell-get down!" JJ urges her but she had to do something. She tosses the net overboard as they're still shooting, but her plan works. As soon as they drive over it, the net gets caught in their engine and forces them to stop. She watches them, making sure they're completely stopped and out of sight before she turns to her friends and grins. "Booyeah!" JJ pumps his fists, "Pogue god, man!"

After getting shot at, they can direct their attention back to whatever it was that John B found on the boat. The pull up to the dock and all hop out of the boat, John B sitting down with it as everyone watches him intensely, "What do you think it is?' Kie asks

"It's gotta be money, right?" John says, unzipping the bag

"That or a couple of keys with street value to the low- to mid-mils." Oh JJ, always aiming high.

"Can we please just open the bag?" Pope snaps at them, making all of them look up at him.

"Wow, Pope," Lane says, "That's a rare outburst of emotion." She says

"Okay, you guys are literally killing me with anticipation." He waves his hands anxiously, "We almost died over this."

John B pulls out a waterproof canister, screwing the top of it. What falls out into his hands isn't exactly what they had all expected. It was an old copper compass that looked familiar to Lane but she couldn't quite place where she had seen it before.

"Oh wow." Pope stands up, obviously disappointed. "Yup, that's about right. Good job everybody, we found a compass." JJ takes his hat off and runs his hands through his hair angrily.

"Dude, what?' JJ asks John B who's staring at the compass almost like it holds all the world's answers. "It's not worth anything."

"Wait..." It finally clicks where Lane had seen that before, "John B, isn't that..."

"This was my father's."
