Chapter 3

Jackson, Ramona, Max, and Rocki sat on the couch watching TV. Steve and D.J. came downstairs. D.J. wore a red dinner dress and red high heels, while Steve wore a grey suit and grey shoes.

"Wow," Ramona said. "You guys look like you're going to a wedding."

"Thanks," D.J. said. "Now Tommy's in bed. We'll try to be back before midnight."

"Well, Cinderella," Steve said. "Your pumpkin awaits."

"Steve," D.J. said. "Please don't ever say that again."

"Sorry," Steve said.

Steve and D.J. exited the house. Jackson and Rocki immediately got off the couch and headed towards the kitchen door.

"See you!" Rocki cheered. "My rebel boyfriend and I are off to David's party!"

As Jackson and Rocki left, Ramona and Max continued watch TV.

"I don't even care that I wasn't invited," Ramona said. "I'm sure that party is going to be lame."

"Ramona," Max said. "If it makes you feel better, I wasn't invited either."

"It doesn't make me feel better!" Ramona cried.

An hour later, Steve and D.J. sat at the table of a fancy restaurant eating dinner. D.J. had the soup while Steve had the pasta.

"This food is so good," D.J. said.

"It sure is," Steve agreed.

"It's so nice to have some time to ourselves," D.J. said. "I love Stephanie and Kimmy, but I swear they're at the house more than when they lived there."

"That's what I've been saying," Steve said.

"I wonder how the kids are doing," D.J. said.

"I'm sure they're fine," Steve said.

"I'm glad Jackson's not mad at me anymore," D.J. said.

"Why was he mad?" Steve asked.

"I said he couldn't go to that party," D.J. replied.

Steve's eyes got wide.

"The party at David's?" Steve asked.

"Yes," D.J. replied. "I don't want him going to late night house parties; especially at David's house. The last party David threw was shut down by the police."

"Oh," Steve said. "I see."
