I'm baaaaack! Are you excited? I am. Sorry I haven't updated in a while, I've been rehearsing for a musical that I am going to be in. We only have five weeks to put the whole thing together, so that has been taking up all my time. But enough of my blabbering, on with the things that I do!
LostSoul (Guest): Thank you very much, and I will.
Zeltra: Dang. I spelled Ilia wrong for a whole chapter. Oh well.
tswift1fan: Thank you, I can't believe that my writing evoked such emotions. Thank you so much! And yes, Sheik is based on my brother. Don't worry the fluff is only just beginning.
WolfieLink: Yeah I know, it was kind of a spontaneous decision.
BluePancakes: Thank you so much! I will keep writing, I promise.
sparklepencil: Thank you! I love it when people love my stories.
Oh, and thank you to everybody who left me your jammin' out songs. It's always fun for me to get a feel for someone else's taste in music. Now... On with the Story!
Back to school. Shit.
After two weeks of Spring Break, and a week and a half of trying to cope, it was time for me to face the world again. I was currently standing in my room with a towel wrapped around my still wet body, staring at my dresser. I had been sitting like this since I got out of the shower ten minutes ago. I didn't want to get dressed, that would make things all to real.
"Zelda, I know you're in there staring at your dresser." I heard Midna call from outside my door. Her and Ilia had officially moved in with Sheik, Tetra, and I. It was kind of surreal, having my best friend living with me. "The quicker you get this over with, the quicker you can stop psyching yourself out." Damnit. She knows me too well. I heaved a sigh, knowing she was right.
I finally moved my heavy limbs, and opened the drawers on my dresser. After a moment of contemplation, I put on a long, flowing navy blue and gray striped skirt, and a navy blue top to match. I slipped on my silver sandals, and left my long hair down. Lastly, I put on my necklace with the 'One Ring' on it. It looked exactly like the one Frodo wore in The Lord Of the Rings. I stepped out of my room to see the usual bustle of my house in the morning, plus Midna's and Ilia's hustle.
"Zelda, is that you?" Ilia called from downstairs. "Come down here and have some breakfast."
"Yeah, I'll be there in a second." I replied. Quickly grabbing by backpack, I hurried downstairs, where everybody was eating chocolate chip pancakes that Ilia had prepared. I sat at the table, and Ilia brought a plate of the breakfast she had made. "Thank you, Ilia."
"Of course." She smiled. I happily dug in, feeling much more optimistic about the day. Once I finished, Midna and I said our goodbyes, and drove to school together.
"So," Midna began as we drove along in her car. "Are you ready to tell everybody at Hyrule High that you and Link are an item?"
"Fuck!" I exclaimed suddenly. "I didn't even think about that!" Midna chuckled a little bit.
"I thought you'd be excited about telling the school about you and Link."
"It's not that I'm ashamed of him, it's just that I'm worried about the pushback that I'll get from Veran and her harpies." I sighed. "You know how they fawn over Link."
"Oh, you're right." Midna realized. "Man, that is gonna suck."
"I know."
"Hey, don't worry. Link isn't the kind of guy who would just stand by and watch others give you hell." Midna assured me. "He really cares about you, Zelda."
"I know." I groaned. "And I know you're right about him, but I still can't help dreading what Veran's gonna do."
"I get it." She said as we pulled up into the student parking lot of the school.
"Hey, Midna?" I questioned softly.
"Yeah?"
"Please, don't tell anybody about my parents. I don't want everybody to know just yet."
"Zelda, none of us would tell unless you were okay with that." Midna told me, resting her arm on my shoulder. "Now, come on. I want to get to our locker before first period." We walked through the hallways until we got to the locker we shared. I opened it up, and Midna and I began to gather the sheet music that we needed for choir.
"Do you think we're ready to show Miss Impa our special music piece?" I asked. We hadn't practiced it in over a week, and I was kind of worried about remembering the harmonies.
"We'll be fine." she replied confidently, shutting the locker and checking her phone. "Well, we have fifteen minutes until the first bell rings. What do you want to do?" At that moment, Dark, the boy who held Midna's affections, walked up to her.
"Hey, Mid." He smiled, his red eyes glittering.
"Hi, Dark." She replied, blushing madly. There weren't many people who could do that to Midna.
"I was wondering, would you like to hang out after school today?" he asked her. Midna seemed frozen by shock, and didn't answer him immediately. Dark took this as a rejection, and began to walk away. "I-If you don't want to that's okay. I'll see you around Midna." I elbowed her sharply, not wanting her to miss this chance.
"No, Dark, wait." She called. "I would love to." Dark grinned giddily and waved as he sauntered off. "I can't believe that just happened!" Midna squealed.
"That's so killer, Midna." I enthused.
"Alright." She breathed, calming down a little bit. "I'm gonna go to the choir room and look over 'Blackbird'."
"Okay. I'll see you in a few." She turned and skipped off. I leaned back against the lockers, just watching everybody pass for a few moments.
"So who is this new girlfriend that I've heard so much about?" I heard a voice off to the left. I turned to see who had spoken. I saw Link and his group of friends leaning against the lockers. It was Komali, a Rito boy, who had spoken.
Link had his arms folded over his chest, and he was smiling ever so slightly. His eyes darted around for a moment before he found me, and motioned for me to come over. I walked forward, my legs feeling like lead as I thought of facing Link's friends, a.k.a. The popular boys.
Finally, after what seemed like hours of walking, I reached Link's outstretched arm. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder as if to say: don't worry. He kissed my cheek, and announced:
"Guys, this is my girlfriend, Zelda Harkinian." I felt all their stares boring into me at one time. I gazed back, trying to decipher what each of them were thinking. There was Darunia, the wrestler, who had a sparkle in his eyes. He seemed accepting enough. Then there was Komali, the pole vaulter. He was the best in the region too. He was obviously pleased with the relationship between me and Link. But it was Pipit I was really worried about. He was Link's best friend, and if he wasn't impressed... well I didn't want to think about that. His gaze was unreadable as he stared me down, making me increasingly nervous. To compensate, I began to fiddle with my necklace.
He stared at me for forever, at least it seemed like it, before he smiled at me.
"Well, Zelda." Pipit said, cracking a smile. "As long as you treat Link right, then we'll get along just fine."
"I promise I'll treat him right." I replied playfully, hugging Link. Komali looked like he was about to say something, when the warning bell rang.
"We've gotta go." Darunia announced. The three of them walked off. As soon as they were gone, Link picked me up and spun me around, oblivious to the stares students were giving us as they stepped past.
"You did it!" He laughed. "You impressed my friends."
"I know!" I exclaimed, hardly able to believe it myself.
"This is cause for a celebration!" He told me, setting me back down on the ground. "Let's go to the park after school."
"Okay." I agreed, grinning widely. "I've gotta go to choir, now. I'll see you later." I quickly pecked him on the cheek, and ran off to the music building. I got there just before the bell rang, and took my seat.
"Good morning, girls!" Miss Impa called, a little too happily. The class groaned, and Miss Impa laughed. "I know you guys are tired, but we've got a lot to do before the concert, starting with special music pieces. Who is doing a special music piece?" Along with my group, one other gang of people were trying out for a special music. The other group went first. They sang La La La by The Naughty Boys. It sounded pretty good over all, but some of the harmonies were a bit sloppy. I was confident that my group could do better. Midna, Saria and I were called up.
Without even needing a cue, we all started singing in perfect time. I felt us click into our harmonies. I let myself be taken away with the music, feeling it release me from the stress of the past two weeks. It was over all to soon, but from the looks on the faces of my classmates, I could tell that we sounded awesome.
"Thank you, girls." Miss Impa smiled as the bell rang. "There will be a list posted tomorrow aftershcool that will say who made the cut for the special music." I packed up my things and headed off to my next class.
(After school)
I trekked back to my locker with Midna. She was spouting out some excited babble about her date with Dark.
"Hey," I interrupted. "Do you know who has rehearsal today?"
"Yeah." She answered. "It's just the pit orchestra today. They are going to work on the music cues."
"Good." I nodded. "Because Link and I are going to celebrate."
"Celebrate what?" Midna questioned.
"The fact that I impressed Link's friends." I smiled.
"That's great, Zelda!" she exclaimed. She closed our locker and zipped up her backpack. "I'm meeting Dark at the yogurt shop in five minutes. I've gotta get going. I'll see you at home." I said goodbye, and she walked off.
"Ready to go?" I felt arms snake around my waist, as well as a deep voice tickle my ear. I nearly jumped out of my skin at the contact. I turned around to find Link chuckling at me, his blue eyes sparkling.
"Goddesses Link, you scared the shit out of me!" I breathed, clutching my chest. He just laughed and put his arm around my shoulders, leading me through the hallways. When we reached the main hall, I stopped walking, dreading the next few steps.
"Zellie, what's wrong?" Link turned to face me, confusion lining his face.
"Ganondorf is in there." I whispered. "Whenever he's around, he stares at me like a piece of prey. I just get an evil vibe from him." Link nodded understandingly.
"I won't let anybody hurt you, Zelda." He told me, wrapping his arm around my shoulder once again. He lead me forward, into the hallway were Ganondorf was lurking. I huddled closer to Link's body as we walked past the Gerudo. I felt his yellow eyes burning into me as we walked past. Link made full eye contact with him as if to say: 'back off, or I'll have something to say about it.'.
I finally relaxed as we walked out of the hallway, and off campus.
"See what I mean?" I told him as I climbed into his car.
"Definately." Link confirmed. "There is something off about that guy when it comes to you."
"Groose sort of does the same thing." I confessed. "But he doesn't seem so...evil"
"I think Groose just wants you." Link told me bluntly. "Ganondorf seems to want more." I shuddered.
"Let's just forget about Ganondorf for now." I suggested. "Where are we going anyway?" Link smiled as we pulled up to a small park with a little play structure. We got out, and I immediately challenged Link.
"I'll race ya to the swings." Before he could even answer, I was racing off toward the swings. It wasn't long before I heard Link's footsteps thumping behind me. I reached the swing, and sat down on it, starting to swing. "I win." I claimed triumphantly. Link just huffed and sat on the swing next to me. I focused on my legs, swinging them to counter the movement of the swing.
"Hey Link?" I blurted before I could stop myself.
"Hmmm?" He questioned wordlessly.
"Why did you choose me when there are so many girls that you would be better off with?" Link stopped swinging, and turned to look at me.
"Zelda, what are you talking about?" He exclaimed.
"Well, you are the golden boy." I explained. "Loved by everybody, captain of the basketball team, and academic god. In fact, I'm not even sure why you needed me to tutor you anyway! I'm just the quiet nerdy girl, the one that nobody really notices. So, why me?"
"Would you believe me if I told you that I wanted you to tutor me so that I could get closer to you?"
I looked up at Link, completely shocked by the bomb that he had just dropped on me.
"Are you serious?"
"Dead serious." He retorted with a straight face.
"But why me?" I pleaded for an answer. "Why would you go after me, and not Hilda, or Veran, or Karane, or someone up to you standards?" Link reached over to take my hand as my eyes met his.
"I went after you, because I took one look at you, and I saw your soul." He told me, looking intensely into my green-blue eyes. "You are more sincere than those girls could ever be. That's why I went after you." Tears welled in my eyes as his words sunk in.
"Link." I whispered tearily. "That's the sweetest thing that anybody has ever said to me." He stood up, and embraced me warmly.
"Well, every word of it was true." He murmured in my ear. We stood like that for a while, in each other's arms, before Link broke the silence. "I think it's time for you to get home." He gestured to the now setting sun.
"Goddesses, I didn't realize that it had gotten so late." Link led me back to his car, and we climbed inside. He started driving, while I turned on the radio. I surfed through the stations until I found a song that I liked, or in this case loved. It was Our of My League by Fitz and the Tantrums. The song was so infectious that I couldn't help but sing along.
Forty days and Forty nights.
I waited for a girl like you to come and save my life.
All the days I waited for you
You know the ones who said I'd never find someone like you.
And you were out of my league.
All the things I believed.
You were just the right kind
Yeah, you were more than just a dream.
You were out of my league
Got my heartbeat racing
And if I die, don't wake me,
Cause you were more than just a dream.
I fell silent as Link pulled up to my driveway.
"Shall I walk you up to the door?" He asked, once again adorning the British accent.
"Sure." I giggled.
We climbed out of the car, and linked arms. He walked me up to my porch. On my doorstep, was a bouquet of flowers arranged beautifully in a vase. There was a small note next to them.
"I wonder who sent these?" I asked, leaning down to pick up the note. I opened it and as soon as I read it, my blood ran cold. I began to shiver, and even though I was so cold, I began to sweat. Link looked at me worriedly and questioningly.
"Zellie, what's wrong?" He asked. I handed him the note. I saw his lips purse in anger as he handed it back to me. I read it once again.
My condolences to your family, Zelda.
Ganondorf.
Oooh! Cliffhanger! How did Ganondorf know about Zelda's parents? Could there be something more nefarious going on? Most of these questions will be answered... NEXT CHAPTER!
But anyway, I'm sorry I took so long to update. I have a lot going on right now. Oh, and I just found out that the guy I have a crush on has a girlfriend! Ugh! I have the worst luck with guys! I'm getting off topic, though. Leave me your favorite love song in a review. Currently, mine is Sarah Smile by Hall and Oates. Until next time, farewell.
