Chapter 2: Fun Sabotage.
Marco spent the rest of the night in the library. Quickly after reading up on World War Two, he found out that the place he time travelled to, the Battle of the Atlantic, was really important. Something about naval supremacy. The Axis won when they should have lost. So Marco came up with a plan.
Using old records of the ship's blueprints, Marco would sabotage the battleship Bismarck and cause it to sink.
He spent the entire day and night on the plan. Looking up the vulnerable parts of the engine with the library computers, buying a bunch of fireworks in the morning, and a soldier costume, he did every possible precaution short of spending more than a day in this alternate timeline. He wanted it done quickly, not knowing whether or not spending more time in an alternate dimension would have any ramifications.
With his costume on, fireworks taped to the inside of his clothes, a map of the ship, and a toolbox, he secluded himself and took out his time machine. Again, adjusting the knobs at random until he got the desired date and place. It was tedious.
Appearing in the engine room, he immediately got to work. Stepping up onto a sort of metal scaffolding that was there and unscrewing a panel. Inside were wires, but what he was after were behind those. He started cutting. Recoiling back every time he got one, just to be safe incase of any electric shock. After a point his entire hand had to go in. He had to be extremely steady, for a single twitch could cause him to touch an open wire. Combined with the wires putting untold watts into the air Marco began to sweat profusely.
A few more snips, and finally his main target was open. A metal tube all the way in the back. It contained the most vital wires within it, and so it was protected. Marco gathered all his fireworks and firecrackers and stuffed them all as close to the tube as possible.
He ran the fuze from the engine and to the side of the door. With everything set up he hesitated. What if the explosion was so big that he too was engulfed in it? Holding a lit match and the fuze in the other, he couldn't see himself do it.
The door next of him opened. It's bottom scraping along the floor. Marco froze.
"Hello there!" A voice called out to him "Oh, you probably don't know english."
Marco didn't even look at her. Not even a glance.
"What're you doing?"
Marco needed to act, whoever was talking could report him to whatever officer was near.
"I'm.. uh… fixing the engine."
"So you do know english! Want me to help?"
"I think it'd be better if you left-"
"Nonsense! You need me to light that wire?"
Marco got his first look at her. Blonde hair, blue eyes, a pastel dress, and a headband with devil horns on it. Strangely modern.
"You can watch." It would be better for her to stay than to go off and tell people about him.
"Alright! My name's Star, by the way. How about yours?"
"Marco Diaz." He immediately regretted giving out his full real name.
"You seem a bit young to be here. How old are you?"
"I get that alot. Fourteen." Again, regretting it instantly. But Star seemed to be nice. He lit the fuze. "So, how about you?"
"Fourteen too. My mom's here for some diplomacy thing, and she dragged me along. I couldn't bring any friends either! Apparently this is too 'important'"
Then the fuze went into the engine, a torrential barrage of pops and booms came from it. After blasts visible out of the open panel, a rainbow of sparks flying, and what seemed to be an eternity, the fireworks finished.
"Were those fireworks?"
"It's called improvising." Marco hopped up and peeked into the panel. Although the main tube was severely scratched up and had a coating of soot, no wires were exposed.
"Well, I'll leave you to it." Star headed for the door.
"Wait!" Marco started frantically screwing the panel back "I'm done, so could I stay with you for a minute?" He figured that he needed to form another plan, and he could make a better plan if he wasn't hiding.
"I dunno, I just met you. Also I might get in trouble."
"It'll be fun."
She lit up "I'm in!"
