Tails was curious about something. That didn't come off as a big surprise considering the big genius that he was, but it wasn't about anything mechanical. Not even Robotnik was plaguing his mind; they shouldn't have to worry about him for a while, he still had crippling depression from his recently destroyed Death Egg. He was more so curious about this thing that he kept hearing everybody talk about, a holiday to be more precise.

Christmas.

The young fox had heard about Christmas before...a little bit, anyway. Before he met Sonic, the bullies that he had to put up with for what felt like an eternity occasionally mentioned the holiday. Near the end of every month, if he could remember. Of course, he only heard a word about it if it was used to tease him, so he never got too much information on what the holiday was about. He couldn't exactly celebrate it with Sonic last year, either. The hedgehog never explained it to him either- perhaps due to forgetfulness- and he had fled off to Little Planet before he could ever ask. He sure as heck wasn't going to ask freaking Amy for an explanation, so he missed out on that one as well. Whatever Christmas was, it seemed wonderful. Today, when he was running with Sonic, every time somebody would mention Christmas, their eyes would sparkle, and they'd look thrilled. He felt bummed out that he never got to experience it.

But what about now? The holiday seemed to be rolling back around, and things seemed to be rather calm. Sonic didn't have anywhere to go, Robotnik, as mentioned, was having another midlife crisis, and they even made a new friend. So, if there were no problems, what was stopping him?

"You alright, pal?"

He was so far into his train of thought that Sonic's voice nearly gave him a heart attack. He jumped on the log he was sitting on. Sonic, who was chilling in the soft grass that Emerald Hill had to offer (it was the warmest place he could think of.), looking at Tails questioningly.

"Mmm-hmm..." Tails nodded slowly.

"You sure? "

"I think so."

"You think- well that's vague, isn't it? C'mon, what's on your mind?"

This should go a lot easier since Sonic was the one asking the questions. He joined his brother on the ground. "Well, you know how today, when we went on our run, there was a bunch of people talking?"

"Mm, well yeah. When ya put two people in a room together, they're bound to talk, common knowledge."

"Wow, really. Anyway, they were talking about Christmas, I think?"

Sonic couldn't help but wonder where Tails was going with this. Hopefully, it wasn't a huge list. "Yeah? It's about that time of the month. What about it?"

"What is it?"

At the question, Sonic raised a brow. "You mean, you've never heard of it before? You don't know about Christmas?"

"Well, I kinda know what it is," Tails said. "It's a holiday, it happens near the end of the month, and it makes people really happy. That's all I know."

"How's that? Didn't I tell you all that stuff last...oh, that's right," Sonic remembered. "I wasn't here, was I? You should've said something earlier, little bro, I wouldn't have minded!"

"That's okay, you were busy. You can explain it now though, right?" Tails asked hopefully. With a chuckle, Sonic rubbed his nose.

"No problem, pal. Now, Christmas is this day where you give presents, eat, and um...you hang out with the people you love. There's also, er...the thingy that ya hang up on the ceilings. And there are games sometimes, I think. Oooh, and there's... what's it called? Did I say food already? There's tons of food. There ya go, Tails! That's Christmas!" Sonic concluded proudly, dusting off his hands. The 8-year-old was filled with nothing but confusion.

"W-what?"

"What?" Sonic echoed. "What do you mean by what?"

"That description was kinda... I mean, is it just about food?" Tails asked.

"No, man, there's the family part and the present part. Ahh, I forgot the songs. Sorry. See, there's Jingle Bells, the one about the tree, the one about birds in a tree-"

Sonic was cut off by the sound of digging. The duo looked at the seemingly moving ground, small specks of dirt flying every which way. "I think it's a Badnik, Sonic," the fox whispered, clenching his fists.

"Gee, that was awfully fast, wasn't it?" Sonic took a moment to dwell over it, taking a fighting stance. "Doesn't matter. I guess this means that this old egg never- oh, it's you." The hedgehog deadpanned once a certain red echidna popped out of the hole, covered in soot from head to toe.

"Hey, guys! I heard the word Christmas from where I was, and I knew I just had to get involved!" Knuckles said with a grin.

"How...?" Tails questioned the logic quietly.

"That's not important, but what is important is the fact that this moron knows nothing about Christmas!" Knuckles said kindly, pointing at Sonic. The hedgehog sneered at him.

"Calling me a moron, eh? Don't think I won't kick you right back down that hole, you-"

"Sonic knows about Christmas, Knuckles," Tails defended his older brother, helping Knuckles out of the hole. "He's just... doesn't know how to explain it very well."

"Huh, tell me about it! Pretty ironic, isn't it Blue? How do you not know how to explain Christmas when you're born on Christmas Island? Makes no sense, no sir." Knuckles teased lightly, resting his elbow on Sonic's shoulder.

"Go away." He grumbled.

"Nope! Somebody has to explain to this little guy the real meaning of Christmas. You're explanation certainly wasn't cutting it. I mean, you didn't even mention Santa Claus for goodness sake!"

"Who's Santa?" Tails asked.

"He's a big, obese man who comes to your house every Christmas to eat all of your cookies and drink all of your milk." Knuckles explained, Sonic sighing in exasperation.

"Boy, he sounds awful..." Tails frowned. "Good thing we don't have either of those, right Sonic?"

"Yeah, but little bro, Santa doesn't eat-"

"In order to get Santa to come to you, you have to be the best little kid of all of Mobius. See, he only comes to the kid who's truly worthy enough to witness his power."

"He only comes to one kid? In all of Mobius?"

"That's right!"

"Why would he reward a good kid by taking all of their cookies and milk?"

"Who knows."

"You're really gonna trust this guy, little bro? He's doin' a worst job at explainin' it than me!" Sonic warned Tails.

"Sonic's just a little angry because he sucks at explaining things, don't listen to him. Now, what else is there to cover?" Knuckles thought for a moment. "Oh, I got it! There are many types of Christmases, like Hanukkah... Sonic what's the name of the other one?"

Sonic pretended to look shocked. "What, are you askin' me? Why, apparently, I don't know how to explain things. If I can't do that, then how could I possibly be capable of doin' what you're askin'?"

"Buzz off, then! Anyway, Hanukkah. You light 8 candles, eat some lattes-"

"Latkes," Sonic corrected. "But then again, I wouldn't know."

"Right, cake, you spin a dreidel, and you get presents for 8 days."

Tails eyes brightened. "For 8 days?! That sounds awesome, can I celebrate it?"

"No, no, you got it all wrong!" Sonic couldn't take it anymore, shoving Knuckles out of the way. "Alright, pal, for starters? You don't even need to worry about Hanukkah, okay? Santa Claus doesn't take all of your cookies and milk, just the ones that you leave out for him. And he brings you presents, too. Anything...well, almost anything you wish for, he'll bring it! But ya gotta be asleep, or he won't come by. Hope that answers all of your questions, little bro." With a quick glance towards Knuckles, he quickly added. "But uh, I still wouldn't know. Just a guess."

"Of course it didn't, that one was hollow as my-" Knuckles was cut off by Tails holding up his hands.

"It did, actually. I think I get it." Tails nodded with a smile.

"Ah, see? I knew you'd get it eventually!" Sonic laughed, ruffling his fur. "This is gonna be a blast, pal, just you wait! We're gonna go to Amy's house -and by we, I mean everybody but Knuckles- and have the greatest time!" He hyped.

"I didn't want to go anyway," Knuckles pouted.

"Like Ray? Even Mighty?"

"All thanks to me," he boasted. "I finally persuaded them to take a break with all of the fightin' and join us. So, are you excited?" Sonic asked.

"Yeah, it sounds like a lot of fun, Sonic!"

"Welp, I guess that means that you can leave now!" Sonic smirked at Knuckles. "Sad to see ya go. C'mon, back in that hole you go, chop-chop."

"Oh, this is rich. I try to help people, and they tell me to leave," the echidna scoffed. "Well that's fine, I see how it is."

He then flew off into the sky, but not without one final cry.

"I'll remember this the next time you guys ask for a favor!"

The brothers watched his silhouette become smaller and smaller until it was no longer visible.

"Hey, pal?"

"Yeah, Sonic?"

"Ya wanna see the decorations Amy has so far?"

"Yeah!"

"Then you better keep up then!" Sonic somewhat challenged as he began to run, not using his full speed to give Tails a fair chance. Tails ran after him hurriedly, not wanting to miss a single moment.

The two arrived at the pink hedgehog's small house. Sonic was wiping the dust off of himself and making sure that his quills were straight for god knows what reason. Maybe to flirt if you get what I'm saying...

I'm sorry.

Tails was bouncing on the spot, he couldn't wait to see Christmas decorations for the first time. Although, he hoped that Amy wouldn't mind them checking in so late in the afternoon. Not many folks preferred to be outside at the beginning of nightfall.

The kitsune was confused for a second about why they were just standing there, but then he looked at Sonic. Tails groaned. "Sonic! C'mon, open the door!"

"Wait a minute, wait a minute," Sonic waved his hand up and down as he picked at his teeth. "Can't show up to somebody's house lookin' like a complete mess, right?"

"Why didn't you do any of that on the way here?" Tails questioned, exasperated.

"I dunno. Just thought of it. Alright...and...got it!" He proudly showed his smile. "Alright, ready?"

"Ready!" Tails nodded with excitement.

Without further of do, Sonic raised his hand, placed it on the door...

And banged on the poor, inanimate object like he was the Swat team. He didn't do it just for the heck of it, though. Amy could be sleeping, and she was a pretty deep sleeper.

"Sonic, calm down!" Tails wheezed through laughter, backing up a couple of feet.

"She could be sleeping, little bro!" Sonic laughed as well just from Tails childlike excitement. "Gotta wake her up somehow, right?"

He wasn't paying attention to the door, which began to open, and kept on knocking.

"I just hope she doesn't get too angry with us comin' out this time of day. But I'll think she'll understand, this is your first Christmas after-"

"OW!"

Sonic froze at the girly shriek, his eyes darting to Tails as if asking, "What was that?"

The young fox covered his mouth, eyes wide as saucers.

Sonic slowly looking towards his hand, and he was met with a very angry looking Amy.

"Hiya, Ames!" He said nervously, slowly taking down his hand. "U-um... Merry early Christmas? C'mon, take some of my spirits. Pass it around."

"I'll take your spirits and drag it across the streets you...you...BOY!" she was so upset that she couldn't think of a proper insult, and resorted to running after Sonic. No hammer. Just her and her good ol' hands.

This must be a tradition, Tails assumed. He watched Sonic run around and around, screaming in pure terror.

He couldn't lie, this was a pretty good tradition...to watch, anyway. Joining would be mean. But yeah, it seems as if his Christmas was off to a pretty good start.

He only had high hopes for the big day to finally come.

Yeah this was my attempt of writing a Christmas thing. I know it's cheesy, but it's the best that I could do XD. Hope it was good enough though, merry late Christmas.
