I apologize for interrupting the story like this again (yeah, I know; shoot me), but I'm facing a conundrum that I would like to get input and opinions from the readers and community for before I commit to anything further...
My plot bunny is on the verge of multiplying, and it's tickling my brainbox over the possibility of breaking into something of a rather minor little subplot in which Lincoln neglects to inform Luna that he and Sam actually chipped in for her Christmas present together, which, naturally, is more than a little upsetting to Sam when she finds out about this. I'm looking at this idea from two different perspectives: a character perspective and a story perspective; as far as I can see, they both have their pros and cons…
Character perspective: On the one hand, it's not completely out-of-character for Lincoln to do something like this, so the idea does actually feel somewhat organic and believable for his character - especially considering his plot point in "Season's Cheatings"; on the other hand, it also seems like it would further perpetuate the un-popular fandom concept of "Selfish Lincoln," which may or may not turn him into an un-likeable character in the story… and we all know I don't need to make any of the characters un-likeable, since a lot of you felt like that's just what I did to Lynn in Behind Closed Doors (despite it not even being my intention) and made it very clear you were not happy about it .
Story perspective: On the one hand, this could bring us an extra little bit of interesting conflict to the story (I say, "Extra little bit," because I've got another little bit of conflict in mind further down the line that's completely un-related to this idea); on the other hand, this may end up dragging out the story a little longer than it necessarily needs to be.
Since I always appreciate the input from the community, I'll leave it up to you, the readers. Which would you rather see: Lincoln essentially taking all of the credit for getting his hands on Luna's present, or him going ahead and letting her know upfront that he and Sam chipped in for it together? Let me know your thoughts, and we'll see where we'll go from here.
