Chapter 1

The stone walls of Moria, build by the best and brightest amongst the dwarves, were extremely strong. Akin to how elven cities appeared to be a part of their trees, the dwarven halls looked to be a part of the very mountain in which they resided. And Khazad Dum had been the pride and joy of their people, poems had been inspired by even the barest glimpse of its majesty. However, with Durin's bane and the orc and goblin hordes that had come after it the maintenance had been lacking in every way imaginable.

The countless tunnels dug by these blights and the monstrosities that their masters had brought meant that when the Watcher in the water threw itself upon the walls in its dying attempt at ending the fellowship, it brought down not only the doors but also parts of the walls of the once mighty halls.

As the doors and the ceiling nearest to daylight crumbled and trapped the fellowship inside in the darkness, part of the left most wall crumbled as well. What was unearthed by this unnatural excavation was perhaps the strangest thing that any of them had ever seen.

A figure appeared to have been entombed in the very rock, its outfit suggested that it might once have been some sort of warrior as it appeared to be wearing a reinforced leather armour and a rather intimidating mask made of some unidentifiable metal. No visible weapons could be found on their person and yet the figure appeared to possess a sense of power that none could identify.

"What in Eru's name is that?" Apparently even the normally unflappable heir to the elven realm of the Greenwood could be pushed to such language. Yet none of the others really paid any attention to Legolas' outburst as at the first sound the figure had stirred. Slowly, as if awakening from a long sleep, their head moved to face the fellowship.

"Where in the name of the Force am I? Wait, I'm back in a body. What happened? Who saved me? Who found me? How long has it been? When can I go and murder that fucker that threw me out of the airlock? Are they still alive? What was their name again? What was my name? Revan? Revan. Right, I'm Revan, but more importantly: WHERE AM I?" With thoughts such as these racing through her mind Darth Revan, empress of the Sith empire and ruler of most of the known galaxy at certain points in time, returned to the land of the living after having spend the last eternity and a half merely surviving by binding herself to the nearest star when she'd been ejected and betrayed. Who knew that the method that meant that the Star Forge had an infinite energy source would be the exact same method that she'd use to prevent her own final death. "HK would never stop gloating if he knew that a machine gave a meatbag the idea that would ensure its own survival."

When you are a warrior for most of your known life (thanks to the Jedi Council for erasing her previous life that one time) certain instincts become very hard to repress, not that Revan wanted to. As such the very first thing that she started to do when she regained consciousness was use the force to spread her awareness across a fifteen meter radius in order to determine her present situation. The room was fairly boring, a collapsed tunnel of some sort, but the people where very interesting.

Boromir son of Denethor (ancient costum or strange naming tradition?) the steward of Gondor (ancient it is). Commander of the Gondorian armies and fiercely loyal to his people. Mentally weak, bigoted.

Peregrin Took of the Shire, a hobbit (never heard of them) loyal to his friends, impulsive.

Meriadoc Brandybuck of the shire, hobbit, loyal to his friends, impulsive.

Aragorn son of Arathorn rightful heir to the throne of Gondor and Arnor. Determined to do right by his promise to unite his people. Loyal to the extreme. Dunedain (different from normal humans?).

Legolas Thranduillion heir to Thranduill king of the Greenwood. A quasi immortal elf (quasi immortal beings, interesting). Loyal, stubborn, slightly bigoted.

Gimli son of Gloin, a dwarf (is he old or do all dwarves have such magnificent beards?) Loyal, stubborn and unmoving as stone, slightly bigoted.

Samwise Gamgee, another hobbit. A gardener. Loyal to a fault. Extremely brave.

Frodo Baggins, yet another hobbit. Brave, determined, possessed? (Where is that dark aura coming from, Nihilus and Vitiate are quite dead so it can't be one of those two).

Gandalf the Grey – Olórin – Mithrandir 4GH&$JDS!? I CAN'T READ HIM! DANGER!

"Why can I not read you Gandalf the Grey?" The figure spoke with a strange accent and the mask obviously changed its voice to some degree as it extracted itself from the wall and appeared to be preparing itself for a fight as it clearly felt uneasy in Gandalf's presence. This did not endear them to the fellowship who moved closer to one another and reached for their weapons. Except for Gandalf who simply leant on his staff and considered the figure before him in both the seen and unseen realm.

"Perhaps it is because I am not a book to be read? Or perhaps because you do not know where to begin? Or yet it may be for some other reason. But you have me at a disadvantage, you appear to know my name but I do not know or would dare to guess at yours."

The figure was clearly thrown somewhat off balance by Gandalf's answer to its question and appeared not to know what to do with itself for a moment before seeming to gather itself and speaking.

"I see that you are one who enjoys moulding a conversation into the direction of strangeness and complex irregularity so I will endeavour to consider my words carefully in your presence. However, I shall answer your query as to my name though I will preface it by saying that the matter is somewhat complicated."

With that said the figure seemed to straighten and take on an almost regal posture that told the fellowship that this was someone who at some point must have had a position of considerable power.

"The name that I was given at the moment of my birth has long been lost to me but it is the name that I took for myself and that I carved into the very foundations of reality throughout my life that I consider to be my true name. First I was a warrior then a leader and finally a ruler. I am Darth Revan of the Sith Empire, please refrain from offering me your firstborn child."
