Santana winced as yet another door was slammed in her face, she couldn't help but look at Sam who didn't at the very least look perturbed. This hadn't gone as well as she had planned and she sighs. She was almost tempted to let Quinn or Charlie handle it, but that would probably make the situation worse. "I don't know how you can be so blasé, about this. They don't trust you."
"Of course, they don't. They don't know me. They also don't trust the humans on the force either, through no fault of my own. We need humans on the police force, but the truth is Santana, it's human on human crime," Sam shrugs his shoulders. "We don't actually police the human neighborhoods, other humans do. Most of my kind think it's beneath them, others are still angry about what was done to us and want to take it out on humans, that's why it was decided that humans needed to police humans and we would police shifters. So really it's just humans who lust after power acting out on it."
"And that makes it okay?" Santana questions.
"No, it doesn't make any of this okay but this isn't a vampire problem, it's not even a shifter problem. It's a human problem. Personally, I think that Quinn shaking it out of these people will move the investigation along quickly. We can deal with the fallout after the fact."
Santana frowns slightly, "No, I know that there maybe some time limit on this but we need to start mending fences. We can't keep just shoving it to the side, I know that you might not care because they're just humans but this is for their benefit as well. If the other humans knew them as I know them—"
"They'd be scared shitless while wanting to fuck both twins?" Sam asks smirking at Santana who scowls at him. "Am I wrong?"
"Fuck you," Santana snaps at him, deciding to walk away as Sam bursts out into laughter. "You're just a big a jerk as they are."
"They're like my parents, I learned from the best," Sam said with a laugh.
Santana crinkled her nose, "And they never tried to eat you? I only ask because it seems like something that they would do."
"Quinn did, all the time actually," Sam says and shrugs. "Honestly, all I had to do was run to Charlie in my animal form, and I could get away with murder," he smiles at the memory.
"Most parents, don't threaten to eat their children," Santana points out.
"I'm aware, I also said that I consider them to be my parents. I have no idea how they feel about me, other than they trust me and they tolerate me being around them far better than they tolerate other people. I mean Charlie talked in front of you, and you're not dead. Most people end up dead. So, I guess they like you well enough, I mean you certainly like them—"
"Shut up," Santana snaps at him. "I do not."
"Right. Whatever you say," Sam grins at the statement.
Santana scowled he was definitely mocking her. "I hate you."
"I know and I'm like your only friend," Sam said with a laugh. There's a lull in the conversation as Santana goes to ignore him and he can't help but shake his head. "You know that they don't do this often. You know this, they don't take pets often and when they do it's usually a shifter, I mean I've heard stories. There were others before my time, Blaine keeps a history. He's been serving them the longest."
"Should that make me feel special? I know that Quinn has had humans around, I mean what about Rachel? Wasn't she just some bird in a cage, that could sing? Isn't that why Quinn liked her?"
"Rachel was before my time, but they are married. I know that much. I think Quinn's feelings about the situation are—complicated. That's all I know. What I can tell you is that in my lifetime is that Rachel's only shown up once, apart from last week." Sam explained. "Forever is a long time."
Santana crinkled her nose, as she slipped into Sam's car. "Well, maybe she shouldn't have turned Rachel into a vampire. Why would anyone want to live forever? Why would anyone want to lose their humanity and become a vampire?"
"Immortality? Strength? Power? I mean is that even a question?" Sam asks. "I wouldn't. I mean just think about it, I mean really think about it. You can't go out in the sun, you can't eat good food, and all the people you know and love will die. I mean it's just not worth it to me."
"Shifters can't become vampires—they can't, can they? I mean there's a lot of shit that I thought I knew and I was wrong."
"Vampires don't feed on us, according to Quinn it's because our blood tastes awful. It'll do in a pinch but it's not something that they enjoy doing," Sam explains. "Since they don't have the desire to feed, I don't think that they would be interested in possibly creating a new subspecies of vampire. Assuming that we can still shift, it's possible that we may end up more powerful than them. At least that's what Burt thinks. I have no idea if that's true or not."
"Well, it's an option for humans and I can't ever imagine taking it. I enjoy being human, despite the fact that I'm surrounded by weird killer vampires all day. I mean Charlie has a sugar problem and Quinn is—"
Sam glanced over at Santana who seemed to be searching for the right word, "I really can't believe you have a crush on Quinn of all people."
"I do not." Santana hisses. "She's a vampire."
"Uhuh, for someone who claims she wants equality between all three races, I don't see why you would care about something like that. The quickest way to get peace is for everyone to marry and or fuck." Sam said with a shrug. "Quinn won't bite you without your express permission."
Santana tucks that information into the back of her head and shakes her head. "Quinn is married, she's got that incestuous affair with Charlie who gets jealous. I'm not stupid Sam. My feelings for Quinn are complicated. All of this is complicated, I mean she put a bullet in her head in front of me. That's not normal, none of this is normal." When Sam looks at her, she sighs. "But I'm learning new stuff all the time, and I mean normal is relative."
"It is, but right now we need to focus on finding someone anyone who is willing to talk because we really don't want Quinn or Charlie to come down here."
~O~
"So, what would you have us do? Santana?" Quinn asked watching as Charlie dipped the strawberries into some chocolate and popped them into her mouth. She scowled at her twin, "When I suggested you eat more fruit, I'm certain I didn't say dip them in chocolate."
Charlie looked up and popped another chocolate covered strawberry in her mouth as she stared at Quinn.
Quinn scowled and turned her attention back to Santana, "We need to find her, and if the people aren't going to talk—"
"The people think that you did it, that's why they won't talk to you," Santana interrupts reaching for one of Charlie's strawberries. She plucks one from Charlie's bowl and bites into it. "All of this because they feel like they can't speak to you, or that you're responsible. Hunter did a lot of damage and you let him. The people don't know you, they see you every single time there is a crisis and they fear you."
Quinn sat back and stared at Santana for a moment, "You do realize that we don't have time to deal with this right? We don't have time to coddle the humans because they feel aggrieved, it was your job to make them talk before I got involved."
"Quinn, we tried, they accused the vampires of taking them," Sam explained quickly. "To them it's the only thing that makes sense. If you were in their position what would you think? You need humans for blood, and what we did manage to gather is that they think you're feeding on actual humans or a member of your court is. I'll look into it, but Josh Coleman isn't Hunter. He followed Hunter but now? Well, things have been quiet on that front."
Quinn sighed and looked over at her twin who made a few gestures, "We're going to have to do something aren't we?" Charlie nods in response and Quinn can't help but raise a brow. "What do you suggest?"
Charlie shrugs her shoulders and makes a gesture with her hands shaking it back and forth, before shrugging once more.
"Helpful," Quinn groans before turning to Santana. "Fine what do you suggest?"
"You meet with the humans, maybe a festival or something show that them you're not—"
"No."
"No?" Santana echoes. "You're the one that suggested that said that you didn't have time. Maybe there is a plot, maybe there isn't, you have a problem right now. You want to fix it, then you need to reach out to your people. You need to give the humans a voice. You need to clean up corruption—"
"How long do you think that will take?"
Santana turns to Charlie her eyes wide, Charlie didn't speak, but the scratchy voice was unmistakable. "I—"
"Quinn is right we don't have time—" Charlie interrupted.
Santana's face fell at her idea being shot down, they obviously didn't see this as important. But it was, they just couldn't see it. There were more humans than vampires, though she wasn't sure what good that would do them in the end.
"But—you're also right, we need to get this done. So, we need to figure out a way to do things in tandem."
"Since when do you speak?" Quinn demands.
Charlie flashes her twin a smile before making a rude gesture with her fingers.
Quinn snorts but looks over at Santana for a moment, "I don't like dealing with humans. I don't have the time for it. We also have a terrorist problem that may have gone underground but it's still there."
"You're immortal," Santana points out. She didn't think Quinn was actually afraid.
"Yes, we are, but you and Sam are not. I—we can be injured especially when we are distracted. The result is a blood lust, and with all those people there it would be difficult to contain myself. Not to mention that my dear sister refuses to talk and she's the likeable one." Charlie snorted at this and Quinn rolled her eyes. "You actually like humans." Charlie shrugged her shoulders at this statement and Quinn points to Santana. "Human. You wanted her as a pet."
"I don't think that means she likes me. I am a pet after all," Santana mutters. She frowns when Charlie flicks a strawberry at her forehead. "Fine a squire or whatever. Barely a promotion. You now just get to sexually harass me, that isn't a win for me."
When Charlie shrugs her shoulders yet again Quinn scowls. "I don't see you coming up with a great plan."
"Press conference," Sam suggests before Charlie can speak. "You need to take this to the people, they're scared and you are their regents. They need to see you and you can at least pretend to care about their survival. So, do that, be as honest as you can with them and let them know of a threat. We can release William Schuester's picture see if we can dig up his whereabouts."
Quinn turned, and nodded. "I knew that there was a reason we kept you around—" Quinn turns when a strawberry smacks her in the cheek and she scowls at her twin who flashes an amused smile at her. "Seriously?"
Charlie finishes the last strawberry and stands up and pats Sam on the head.
"That might work, and while you're doing that I can maybe hold elections, for every neighborhood, so those leaders can meet you here and discuss issues that are important to them." Santana suggests.
Quinn grunted and glared at her twin, "Of course, more work for me while you get to swing your sword around and go on adventures. Why must you leave me with all the paperwork?" Charlie points at her throat and Quinn grabs the discarded strawberry and launches it at Charlie's head.
