Santana watched as Sam dug into his steak messily and glanced up at both Charlie and Quinn who seemed to be ignoring him. "Did you forget to eat or something?"
Sam looks up and licks his lips, flushing slightly embarrassed, "No! I just ran out of money."
"You ran out of—how do you just run out of money?" Santana questions.
"He probably spent all his money on toys again," Quinn replies for Sam.
"I didn't do that either!"
Santana flicks her eyes to Quinn for the translation. "He bought a girl a wedding ring after only dating for a month and a half," Quinn explains. "Needless to say, it didn't work out."
"You proposed after a month and a half?"
"She was my first!" Sam grumbled glaring at Quinn who shrugs and flashes him an amused smile. "I just thought that's what you were supposed to do."
Charlie makes an odd gesture and nods at Sam.
Quinn takes a bite of her steak a devilish smirk on his face, "You could have waited until she was madly in love with you. Judging from your expression, I'm going to take it that you spent all your money trying to impress someone new. Oh Sam, however are you going to top that?"
"You're dating someone new?" Santana asks actually intrigued with Sam's life.
Sam scowled, "No. The date was a disaster."
"Oh," Santana said watching as the twins began to laugh, at his expense. "Don't mind them, there are other people you could date."
Sam shrugged his face a bright red, as he looked back at his steak. "I need some more overtime hours to make up for it, and I don't get paid for another week. So—" he looks up hopefully at Charlie.
Charlie rolls her eyes but motions at Blaine.
"You spoil him," Quinn says with a bored look as she looks at Blaine. "Make sure he has enough food to last the week." Charlie shrugs at this.
"How bad was the date?" Santana asked looking at Sam.
"Uh—she left right after the main meal, like she said she was going to the bathroom and never came back. I thought it was going well." Sam glares at Charlie who snorts at this and covers her mouth to keep from laughing out loud. "It's not funny! I was doing my impressions and—"
Quinn dropped her fork and her knife and just began to laugh openly. "Oh, Sam."
Santana blinks, they were picking on him and he looked rather distressed and embarrassed about the whole thing, "Your impressions?"
"I did suggest leaving that for the fifth date," Blaine says shaking his head an amused smile on his face.
"You thought they were funny!" Sam grumbles.
"I was being polite," Blaine responds as he moves to clear away the plates. This only causes the twins to laugh harder.
"I have faith in you," Santana says deciding to stick up for the only non-vampire in the room.
"You haven't seen him in 'action' then," Quinn manages to get out.
"At least I go on dates," Sam says petulantly.
Charlie scowled at him and threw a bread roll at his head as the laughter died down. She sinks in her chair as Quinn looks at her for a moment.
Santana can feel the tension, "You don't take Quinn out on dates? Charlie."
Charlie look scandalized at this and makes some gestures at Quinn, who was sipping on her blood with an unreadable expression on her face.
"When you've been alive for as long as we have sometimes the romance dies," Quinn said finally.
Charlie grimaces and disappears for a moment only to reappear with flowers, that hadn't quite bloomed yet.
"Are those from my garden?"
Charlie shakes her head and quickly hides the flowers, that still had some dirt on them, behind her back. They were totally from Quinn's garden.
"Charlie! For the last time it's hardly romantic if you butcher my flowers and then give them to me as a gift." Quinn scowled watching as Charlie takes the moment to stand up probably attempting to make her escape again when Blaine enters the room with a letter in his hand.
"There's been an urgent message from the King, apparently there's been another terrorist attack in Tina's territory—she didn't survive," Blaine said quickly handing the letter to Quinn who frowned at this. "I apologize for ruining a delightful evening with such news."
Quinn tore open the letter immediately her eyes scanning the letter for a moment before tilting her head slightly so Charlie, who had appeared behind her could read the message. "This was not how I wished to get my seat back," she admits after a moment before folding the letter up. "How is Noah? I suspect Sue will wish to see that you are training your new recruit."
Charlie snorts but nods at this and points to Santana.
"Uh—"
"No Charlie you can't take either of them, given the situation it's best if you make your way there immediately. You need to start hunting immediately, this can't keep happening. So, go now, take what you need and a translator if you must, but I must hold the fort here."
Charlie scowls at this but nods taking a step to move to get ready before stopping and heading back to Quinn, pulling her chair out and spinning it around so she could lean forward and kiss her full on the lips in front of everyone. She flashes Quinn a smile and a wink before disappearing.
Santana stared, "What's going on?"
"There's been another terrorist attack and the Bishop is dead, thus I've been given my former position back. Sue has called all her knights to the scene, she wants the member of the Black Court found, more human attacks. I don't quite understand how this is happening. Any shifter should be able to smell a vampire, any vampire should be able to tell the difference. How is she moving from one colony to the other? There will be a culling over there—unfortunate, but Sue will never let this stand. A message must be sent, not that it will do any good. Many of them were thralls."
"Can't you—I don't know stop it? The humans are being weaponized against you. It's hardly their fault."
"I can't control Sue and that's probably why she insisted on Charlie's presence, she needs to get the population under control immediately. We can't be killed, Charlie doesn't exactly enjoy butchering innocents at Sue's command but she will be rooting out any cells that may be lurking around, punishing those responsible. I understand how important the rights of humans are to you Santana, but they killed a bishop, they killed a vampire, humans did, and that's enough to destabilize the region, we can't let Tina's territories fall like the rest of the South did. It's in a central location, and if it falls the others might fall until we're the last ones standing."
Santana inhaled, "I just— it's not their fault."
"No, it isn't. It's ours for not noticing the pattern sooner, Tina was a fool about this whole thing and how she treated humans in her territories made it rife for an uprising, our territories are different. Not by much but they are different. I hate to admit but you're right, we do need to do better." Quinn said throwing her napkin onto the table.
Santana blinked this was her moment, she could make some real changes right now that Quinn was receptive. "There are some things that will make open the dialogues of communication, and start some goodwill between you and the humans. Rooting out corruption in the police force for instance."
Quinn studied Santana for a moment before nodding her head. "Very well, prepare a report for me, I'll look into it. Sam, I need you to do the same. That will be your overtime."
Sam nods and gets up, "We'll get on it and I'll inform the chief that we need to tighten security."
Quinn waved them off and reached for her blood to take a sip, picking up the letter and reading it once more. Something was brewing on the horizon and she wasn't quite sure what it was yet.
Santana bit her lip before running off to prepare the report.
