Chapter 1: Sneaking Out
"Your highness, you aren't allowed to leave the castle."
"I told you to call me May. And besides, I won't be gone long." May said as she put on a black cloak.
Princess May is the Princess of Hoenn. Her lady-in-waiting, Dahlia, is currently trying to stop her from leaving the castle walls. May has been forbidden by her parents to leave the castle walls because of ruffians that have appeared in their kingdom in the past. She still wants to leave to see her citizens though.
"Princess, it's my job to make sure you don't disobey the rules your father gave you about staying within castle walls." Dahlia said.
"I'm not disobeying the rules…" May started as she walked out to the balcony connected to her room. "I'm just...creating my own."
"Your own?" Dahlia said as she walked out to the balcony as well. "And what rule is that?"
May looked at Dahlia. "It's the Royal family who's supposed to protect the kingdom of Hoenn in the first place, right?"
"Umm actually no, it's-"
"So therefore, it's already like a rule." May said. "I want to do my part in keeping Hoenn safe."
"But Princess-"
"I'll be careful Dahlia." May said. "Don't worry."
"Princess, the royal guards protect the kingdom. If they find you out there, you'll be in a lot of trouble with the King and Queen." Dahlia said.
"That's why I'll avoid them." May said.
"Nine~!" A Pokémon's voice came from inside. The Pokémon walked out to the balcony and rubbed her head against May's leg.
May bent down and pet the Pokémon on her head. "Ninetales, I'll be going into town, okay?" The Ninetales is a baby blue color with pure white at the end of each tail and at the end of her hair. Her eyes are a crystal blue color. That's right. This is an Alolan Ninetales.
"Nine~!" Ninetales said.
"I don't think she wants you to go either." Dahlia said.
May stood back up. "It'll be fine. It's been a long time since I've left the castle, so I'll just leave for a bit, okay?"
Dahlia sighed. "I guess I can't stop you Princess…"
"Okay then." May said. She pet Ninetales. "I'll see you soon." She grabbed a rope ladder and climbed down the balcony.
"So, how do you guys like your teachers and classes so far?" Gary asked. (I don't need to describe them, right?)
"We've only been in school for a week, so I don't know for sure yet." Ash said.
"Yeah. Once the second week comes, that's when we really start working." Misty said.
"But for now, the teachers are really nice!" Dawn said happily.
"And the girls are cute too." Gary added.
Drew rolled his eyes. "Of course you'd say that." He said sarcastically.
"Yeah. And of course all of the girls are all over you, huh Drew?" Gary said.
Drew flicked his hair. "I guess."
"You guess?!" The gang minus Drew said in unison.
"The girls are all over you Drew." Dawn said.
"It's not a big deal." Drew said.
"Well, while you have the girls in the school," Gary said. "I've got my eyes on the Princess."
"She is really pretty…" Ash agreed.
"More like beautiful." Gary corrected.
"What are the chances of her falling for a commoner?" Misty said.
"Well...I can still dream, can't I?" Gary asked.
"As long as the dreams are appropriate." Paul said.
"Some are, some might not be." Gary answered.
"Eww...you're so gross Gary!" Dawn said.
Gary just shrugged. "Hey...who's that?" Gary asked, looking in the distance. Everyone followed his gaze.
"She looks lost." Misty said.
They were watching as the cloaked Princess May was exploring the town. She looked lost because she was making sure that she didn't get caught by the royal guards that are currently walking around town.
"Maybe I should go help her." Gary said.
"And what if she's trying to find a place that you don't know where it is?" Drew asked.
"Yeah, Drew's right. None of us live in Petalburg City. We just came here to go to the school here." Dawn said.
"I guess so, but she looks lost." Gary said.
The gang has been talking to each other at the side of a building. May is currently walking in their direction, not noticing them, but enjoying walking around outside of castle walls.
("Looks like Petalburg is as peaceful as ever.") May thought. May didn't watch the ground and her foot got caught on an uneven sidewalk. She tripped and closed her eyes to feel herself hit the ground, but someone caught her before she fell.
May opened her eyes and felt someone help her up. May stood up and looked up at who caught her. She saw that he has green hair and green eyes.
"Hey, are you okay?" Drew asked worriedly.
"Umm…" May looked down. She blushed a little. "Y-yeah…"
"That was some quick thinking Drew." Ash said. The gang from a few feet away now joined Drew.
"It was nothing." Drew said.
"Do you live around here?" Gary asked directing his question to May.
"Umm...yeah." May answered. "I don't live too far from here."
"Well...how about you show me who I saved?" Drew asked, lifting May's head up with his index finger and thumb. Drew stared into May's blue eyes. ("Wow…Beautiful…")
May and Drew both blushed and Drew quickly took his hand off, so everyone could see May's face.
"Yay! Now we can be great friends!" Dawn exclaimed.
"F-friends?" May asked.
"Of course! You'll fit in great! Do you go to Petalburg High?" Dawn asked.
"Actually...I don't go to school." May answered.
"You don't? Why not?" Misty asked.
"Because...umm…" May said. She didn't finish that answer. She didn't want them to find out anything about who she is under that cloak.
"Okay…" Drew said. "What's the reason for wearing that cloak?"
May didn't say anything. Everyone looked at her in confusion.
"Is everything okay?" Ash asked.
"Everything's fine!" May said. "I just...need to go back home." May said and then she turned around and started speed-walking back to the castle.
"What was that about?" Dawn asked.
"Maybe she didn't like your perky attitude." Paul said.
"Hey!" Dawn yelled.
"She didn't even say her name." Gary said.
"Yeah...maybe we'll see her again some time." Misty hoped.
"No one figured out that I left, right?" May asked.
"Right. You actually were quicker than I thought." Dahlia said.
"Told you." May said. "I did meet some people in town, but I was able to hide who I was." She said as she took off her cloak.
"That's good. If word got out that the Princess left the castle, then I'll be in big trouble."
"And me too, but I pulled it off. The citizens seemed really happy out there." May said.
"So you had nothing to worry about."
Knock! Knock! Knock!
"Come in!" May said. The doors to her room opened and a royal guard stepped inside.
"Your highness, your presence is requested in the Throne Room." The guard said.
"Okay." May got off of her bed and followed the guard out, along with Dahlia.
"Your majesties, I've brought Princess May." The guard said and then walked off to the side. Dahlia stayed back while May stepped forward, closer to her parents.
"You requested my presence?" May asked.
Norman is May's Dad and the King of Hoenn. Caroline is May's Mom and the Queen of Hoenn.
"May, we have decided on something that we think you might be excited for." Norman said, smiling.
"Really? What is it?" May asked.
"As you know, because of ruffians and evildoers in the past, we've never let you leave the castle." Caroline said.
"And…?" May said, waiting to hear what they're getting at.
Norman sighed. "This is a big risk, but…"
"We're letting you go to school!" Caroline finished.
May's eyes widened. "Are you serious?"
Norman and Caroline nodded. May shrieked. "You mean I won't be watched like 24/7?" May said excitedly.
"We never said that." Norman said.
"You won't be watched in school, but we will let you wander around town and you'll be watched by guards out there." Caroline said.
"I guess that's okay…" May started. "As long as they don't stop me from speaking with the citizens."
"They won't." Norman said.
"Please remember to always be careful out there." Caroline added.
"I will! Thank you so much!" May exclaimed.
"You'll need some help before Monday to get used to being a normal student at a school." Caroline answered. "Remember, don't tell people your identity."
"And I think that Dahlia can help with everything you need to know before going to school." Norman included.
Dahlia curtsied. "It'd be my pleasure Your Majesties."
"Okay Princess, first things first, appearance." Dahlia said. She walked into May's walk-in closet.
"Appearance?" May asked.
"Of course. I think people would definitely notice you if you wear a ball gown to school." Dahlia said.
"Ohh...right."
Dahlia came back out with an outfit for May that isn't a dress. (She's holding May's Hoenn outfit from the anime.)
"Here, try this on." Dahlia said as she handed the outfit to May.
"Okay…" May walked into her bathroom and changed.
"Well?" May said as she exited the bathroom. "What do you think?"
"It's perfect!" Dahlia said. "That was quicker than I thought."
"It will take me awhile to get used to this." May said.
"I'm sure you can do it though." Dahlia said. "Now Princess, next thing is your name."
"My name…" May said, thinking.
"What do you want your name to be for your new look?"
"Hmm…how about Daisy?"
"That's random. Is there a reason why you said Daisy?" Dahlia asked.
"Nope. I just like flowers." May answered, giggling a little.
"Well…" Dahlia said and walked into the walk-in closet again. "Thankfully you have plenty of disguises in here."
"What else are you getting?" May asked.
Dahlia walked back out, holding a blonde wig. "Put this on."
"A wig?" May questioned. She took the wig.
"Yes. The royal family is obviously popular in Hoenn. I'm sure everyone at that school will know what the Princess looks like."
"Right." May said as she put the wig on. The blonde wig was curly only at the tips and it reached down to the middle of her back. May looked at herself in a full-length mirror and tucked every strand of hair inside the wig.
"You look nice." Dahlia said.
"Thanks." May said. "I now have blonde hair and blue eyes." She laughed.
Dahlia joined her in laughing. "Yeah. I guess so. It's a popular combination."
"Well, what's next?" May asked.
"Next is…"
