Chapter 4: Battle Class

"Okay. First battle today is...Daisy and Ash!" Teacher Roxanne announced.

May's second period is battle class. She has this class with Ash, Drew, Gary, and Paul. Living in the castle, May didn't really have much experience in battling, but she at least knew how to battle. She would sometimes battle the Pokémon that live at the castle, but that's about it. Now, it's the real deal.

"No one's seen you battle yet Daisy." Ash said. "Just cause we're friends doesn't mean I'll go easy on you."

"Don't worry. I don't expect you to." May said confidently. "I'll give it my all."

They walk onto the battlefield and May takes out a Pokéball. A referee steps up to his position.

"Trainers ready? Bring out your Pokémon!" The referee said.

"Pikachu, you're up." Ash said. Pikachu jumped off of Ash's shoulder and onto the battlefield.

"Pika~!" Pikachu said.

"Glaceon, come on out!" May said as she threw her Pokéball.

"Gla~!" Glaceon said.

"Battle begin!" The referee said.

"Ladies first Daisy." Ash said.

"Thank you Ash, but you might regret that." May said. "Glaceon, use Ice Shard!" Glaceon hurls chunks of ice towards Pikachu.

"Pikachu, dodge!" Ash ordered. Pikachu jumped up and dodged the Ice Shards. "Now use Thunderbolt!" Pikachu launched the yellow beam of electricity towards Glaceon while in the air.

"Mirror Coat!" May said. Glaceon's fur glowed a white color and sparkled.

The Thunderbolt hit Glaceon, but didn't affect it. Glaceon absorbed the attack and sent it back with double the power. Since Pikachu was falling to the ground, he couldn't dodge it and he got hit. Pikachu crashed to the ground.

"Pikachu!" Ash called worriedly.

"Wow, her Glaceon knows Mirror Coat." Gary said.

"That really put a hit on Pikachu." Drew said.

"Pikachu, can you stand?" Ash asked.

"Pika…" Pikachu said exhausted, struggling to stand up.

"Glaceon, let's finish this with Shadow Ball!" May ordered. A purple ball grew in front of Glaceon's mouth and Glaceon hurled it towards Pikachu.

"Pikachu, dodge with Quick Attack!" Ash called.

"Pika~!" Pikachu said before quickly dodging out of the way. Pikachu kept running full speed at Glaceon. Glaceon didn't have time to dodge the Quick Attack. She got pushed back on her side.

"Glaceon!" May called worriedly.

"Gla…" Glaceon slowly stood up.

"Wow Daisy, your Glaceon is really strong." Ash complimented.

"Thanks. So is your Pikachu." May said. "But let's finish this. Glaceon, Ice Shard!" Glaceon hurled more shards of ice at Pikachu.

"Thunderbolt!" Ash ordered. Pikachu launched a Thunderbolt directly at the Ice Shards. The moves clashed and mist filled the stage. The mist quickly cleared. Both Pokémon were panting.

"Wow, Daisy is a pretty good trainer." Drew said.

"Yeah, she's trained her Pokémon really well." Paul said.

"And she looks beautiful too." Gary added.

Drew and Paul both rolled their eyes.

"Pikachu, finish it with Iron Tail!" Ash ordered. Pikachu ran towards Glaceon.

"Wait for it…" May said quietly. She saw Pikachu running closer.

"Ice Shard!" May ordered. Glaceon hurled more Ice Shards at Pikachu when Pikachu got extremely close to her. Before Pikachu could use Iron Tail, he got a direct hit from Ice Shard and flew backwards. Pikachu slammed into the wall behind Ash with swirly eyes, signaling that he's fainted.

"Pikachu!" Ash called worriedly.

"Pikachu is unable to battle, the winner is Glaceon! Which means Daisy is the winner of this battle!" The referee called.

Everyone applauded for May/Daisy. May ran over to Glaceon and hugged her while Ash went to pick up Pikachu.

"You were great buddy." Ash said.

"Pika…" Pikachu responded weakly.

"You did it Glaceon!" May said happily.

"Gla~!" Glaceon replied happily.

May returned Glaceon and Ash and May walked back to the other guys.

"Way to go Daisy. You were great." Gary complimented.

"Thanks!" May said.

"That Glaceon of yours is really strong." Ash said.

"Thanks Ash." May said.

"Here." Drew said, red rose held out towards May/Daisy. "Good job."

"Umm...thanks." May said as she accepted the rose.

"Wow Drew, that's not like you to actually give girls your roses." Gary said.

Drew flicked his hair. "Well, I think Daisy here deserved one."

May looked down at the rose in her hands and blushed. "Thanks...roses are my favorite flower." May said.

Drew looked at Daisy, who is looking down at the rose. He smiled. "No problem." The girls in the class started whispering.

"No fair."

"He gave her a rose!"

"Lucky…"

"Remember the other day when the Princess waved at us?" Gary said.

The gang is at lunch. And of course, Gary started a conversation about the Princess.

"Yeah, it was for a quick moment, but she saw us." Ash said.

"You guys saw the Princess?" May/Daisy asked. She's again hiding who she is by acting like she doesn't know.

"Oh. That's right. Here." Dawn said as she handed May her phone. "Put your number in. We forgot to ask you for it when you first got here, and we don't know where you live, so we couldn't tell you that we sometimes walk around Petalburg City, and we couldn't invite you to hang with us. Sorry about that."

"Oh. It's okay. My parents wouldn't have let me hang out anyways." May said as she put her number into Dawn's phone.

"Really? Why is that?" Misty asked.

"Well...I just had a lot of cleaning to do that day." May lied. May handed Dawn's phone back to her.

"Well, how about today?" Dawn asked.

"Umm...I'll ask my parents." May said.

"Okay. Text me if you can come." Dawn said. May nodded. "I'll text everyone else your number as well."

"Okay." May said.

"So, who's that from?" Dahlia asked. May is currently sitting on her bed staring down at a beautiful red rose in her hands.

May exhales. "It's from Drew."

"The boy you told me about?"

"Yeah."

"Isn't a rose going a bit too far too early?" Dahlia asked.

May blushed. She stood up and put the rose in the flower vase on her nightstand that's next to her bed. "I don't think so. He only gave it to me to congratulate me for winning my battle today."

"If you say so." Dahlia said.

"Anyway, I'm going into town as Daisy today." May started. "I already asked my parents and they said yes, of course I'll be watched from a distance by the guards. My friends want me to walk with them around town."

"Okay May." Dahlia said. "Have fun."

"I will."

"Glad you could make it." Ash said.

"Me too." May/Daisy said.

"Yay! So what should we talk about?" Dawn asked.

"Hmm…" Ash said, thinking.

"How about…" Misty said.

"Umm...maybe we should talk about the horde of girls running this way?" May said and she pointed in front of her.

The gang stopped walking and stared as tons of girls ran towards them.

"Umm...who are they after?" Ash asked.

"Who do you think?" Gary said. They all looked at Drew who wasn't fazed by the screaming fans. May was a bit slow on turning to face Drew.

"Uhh...should you maybe run?" Dawn suggested.

"Maybe." Drew replied.

"Maybe?!" Everyone else except May yelled. The girls were coming closer.

All of a sudden, five royal guards were in front of the gang facing the fans. The girls all came to a stop.

"Uhh...what's going on?" A girl asked.

"Running in the streets is dangerous." One guard simply said.

("Why are they here?") May thought angrily.

The girls walked away, slightly scared of the guards. The gang stared in confusion as to why they got protected by royal guards.

"Umm...thanks royal guards, but I think we got it from here." May/Daisy said.

"No problem miss." A guard said. They walked away, of course faking that they didn't know who Daisy was.

"That was...strange." Ash said.

"I know, right? I understand the "running in streets" thing, but stopping them?" Dawn said.

"I mean...maybe the guards thought that if they didn't slow down, they'd crash into us?" Misty wondered.

"Hmm...well, at least I don't have to run." Drew said.

("At least they hid my identity.") May thought.

"Okay class, I want you all to bring out one of your Pokémon and I'll show you how to make your own Pokémon food for it." Teacher Suzie said.

May's third period is Breeding class. They learn about how to make very unique Pokémon food for certain Pokémon, how to raise them with the most tender loving care, and even how to groom them. May has this class with Misty and Ash.

May called out her Delcatty, Misty called out her Azurill, and Ash is just using Pikachu since he's already out. The other classmates called their Pokémon out as well.

"Wow, pretty Delcatty Daisy." Misty said.

"Thanks!" May/Daisy said.

"Alright class, you all know your Pokémon better than I could ever, so you all know what your Pokémon's diet is like." Suzie said. "Now, when it comes to making food for Pokémon, whether it's Poképuffs, Pokéblock, or Poffins, each Pokémon likes a specific type of flavor to their food. Your job will be to see what flavor is your Pokémon's favorite and make it. We have plenty of berries on the counters around the class. Use whatever you need to make the perfect Pokémon food for your Pokémon, and I'll be walking around in case you need help."

The students scatter all around the classroom.

"So, ready to try some of my Pokémon food?" May/Daisy asked while petting Delcatty behind the ear.

"Nyan~!" Delcatty answered happily.

"I've never been that good at making anything, so let's see how this goes." Ash said.

"I've cooked before, but...it didn't really come out that well." Misty admitted.

"Well, thankfully this isn't cooking class, huh?" May/Daisy said.

"Yeah. Let's go see what berries our Pokémon like now!" Misty exclaimed.

They go to some berries and give them to their Pokémon to see what they like the best. They return to their desks and sprinkle small chunks of berries onto the Pokémon food.
