Very slowly, Harvey blinks a few times. The bed he is lying in isn't as comfortable as the one at home and the blanket is kind of itchy. Bright lines blind him and the whites on the wall lack the tasteful art that Donna put up at home. He turns his head, seeing a view he doesn't recognize from a window that doesn't look like the one he is used to. His eyes travel to the other side of his bed, where he sees Mike sitting next to the bed, files strewn around him. Harvey frowns at that sight. Why is Mike sitting next to his bed? "Miss me so much you can't spend an hour without me?" He tries to joke, but his voice sounds hoarse and scratchy.
"Hey," Mike looks up, worry lining his face and making him look older than he did when Harvey saw him last. Harvey looks around the room once again before his eyes find Mike's, "why am I in the hospital?" Mike narrows his eyes, taking in Harveys dazed look. Apparently, there are quite a few drugs in his system. "What's the last thing you remember?" He counters, making Harvey stare up to the ceiling, a frown on his forehead as he thinks.
"I left the firm," Harvey starts, digging through his frustratingly slow brain, "and… then… I got here," he doesn't really remember, he just assumes that's what happened. Because he doesn't think he got in a crash; he isn't in pain and as far as he can tell nothing is broken or bruised. He visualizes the route from the entrance to Donna's room, hoping it sparks something. He can see the hallways in his head… The door to her room… And then he jolts up.
"Donna!" He exclaims, swinging his legs over the edge of the bed, "is she okay? Did you hear anything?" He notices the iv in his left arm and closes the fingers of his right hand around it, ready to yank it out. "Harvey, stop!" Mike sounds so forceful that he listens, freezing in his movements. Brown eyes finding blue ones. "They took her for emergency surgery. She-she… It was bad. Mike, I need to get out of here. I need to-"
"Harvey," Mike stops his rambling, "get your ass back in that bed and don't even think about pulling that iv out." He tries to stare Harvey down, but it doesn't work. "Donna… I just need-" Mike interrupts him quickly, "she's out of surgery. She pulled through." He reassures Harvey. "She's okay?" Mike nods. That's not the full story, but his intention is to calm Harvey down, the full story is something for a later point. "Sit back now, okay? How are you feeling?"
Reluctantly, Harvey pulls his legs back onto the bed. He doesn't want to talk about how he's feeling, he doesn't understand why he should. Until suddenly that last piece of the puzzle falls into place. He remembers what happened after he saw Donna's empty room. How he had a full-on panic attack before passing out. "I'm okay." He states, but Mike looks at him in disbelief. Harvey scoffs, "fine. Maybe I'm a little tired. But it was just a panic attack. Can we get out of here and see Donna now?"
"No." Mike simply states. He sees anger brewing behind Harvey's eyes, but shakes his head. "No, Harvey. You didn't just have a panic attack. I mean… You did and you passed out. Then you woke up and you were still in a panic. But you also kept clutching your chest," Mike starts explaining, "and they thought it might be your heart." He remembers witnessing one of Harveys panic attacks and thinking the same thing, "they wanted to examine you, but you kept panicking. So they sedated you."
"Oh God," Harvey groans, throwing his head back, "they had to sedate me?" This is a story he'll probably never live down. Mike nods, a small smirk now creeping onto his face, "yeah they did," he confirms, "and they ran a whole lot of tests. Everything came back okay, but they want to keep you for observation." Harvey shakes his head, "I'm not staying here. I need to see Donna. She can't be all alone right now. I need to be there."
"She's not alone," Mike assures Harvey, "Rachel is with her. Besides…" He trails off, but Harvey glares at him and he continues, "she's still asleep. It will be a few hours until she wakes up." He can see his arguments do nothing to convince Harvey, "look, man," he sighs, "just stay the night. You don't want to pour your energy into fighting this. Not when there's so much more important things coming up this week. Donna's gonna need you. We'll have to spend a lot of time in court. Just focus on that."
Harvey huffs. Then he sees the worry in Mike's eyes. The tired lines around his mouth. The slight frown on his forehead. Blueish circles under his eyes. "Fine. I'll stay in this place." Harvey sighs. He doesn't want to burden Mike any more.
that was a short one, next one will be longer and will have Darvey ;)
