Chapter 9: Sleepover At Drew's

"So, what do you say we don't tell the gang that we got the parts?" Drew asked.

"Sure, but why hide it?" May/Daisy questioned.

"I think it should be a fun surprise for them when they see the play during Homecoming Week." Drew answered.

"You're right. I wonder how they'll react." May said. "But...keeping a big secret like this for a month…?"

"You can do it. Just don't bring up theater class, okay?"

"Okay…" May said.

May and Drew made it outside after school and they start walking to where the gang is. A girl stops in front of Drew and they both stop walking.

"Can I help you with something?" Drew asked.

"I want to see if I'm the mystery girl that you're searching for." The girl, Naomi, said.

"Let's hear what you got." Drew said. May just looked at Naomi, confused. She's going to sing to Drew now?

"Umm...in front of these people?" Naomi asked nervously, looking around at everyone in the front of the school.

"It's either now or wait until tomorrow to try some other time." Drew said.

"Okay...I'll try now." Naomi said. She backed up a little and started singing.

(This song is "Call You Mine" by the Chainsmokers and Bebe Rexha.)

"Two kids with their hearts on fire. Who's gonna save us now?" Naomi sang. Everyone around them turned to face who's singing. "When we thought that we couldn't get higher, things started looking down." Naomi is slightly off tune and May and Drew can hear it. "I look at you and you look at me like nothing but strangers now. Two kids with their hearts on fire don't let it burn us out."

"Think about what you believe in now." Naomi continued. She couldn't hit the high notes. "Am I someone you could not live without? Cause I know I don't wanna live without you, yeah. Come on, let's turn this all around. Bring it all back to that bar downtown. When you wouldn't let me walk out on you, yeah." May felt a little awkward being right next to Drew and listening to Naomi sing her song.

May thought that she should just walk away and go to the gang to wait for Drew. She took a step to the side, only to feel someone grab her hand and stop her from leaving. "You said, hey whatcha doing for the rest of your life?" Naomi sang. May looked at Drew and then at their blushed. "And I said…" Naomi's voice trailed off once she saw that Drew was holding Daisy's hand.

"Umm...I'm sorry to ask, but...did you already find your mystery girl?" Naomi asked.

"If I did, I would've told you before you started singing." Drew said.

"But…" Naomi said.

"Daisy here is my friend. I was just stopping her from leaving, so we could go to our friends together." Drew said.

"Oh. Okay. Then, should I continue?" Naomi asked.

Drew shook his head. "No need. You're not the girl I'm looking for."

"Oh…" Naomi said sadly.

"Now if you'll excuse us. Let's go Daisy." Drew said as he started leading May to the gang.

They left Naomi there, walking hand in hand. They came to the grassy area where the gang is sitting down.

"There you guys are." Dawn said. "What…happened…?" She asked as she saw their hands together.

The rest of their friends noticed as well. Gary smirked. "So...how did that happen Drew?" Gary said as he pointed at their hands.

May and Drew both looked at their hands. They quickly looked away from each other and blushed. Drew released May's hand.

"So, why do you get all the girls Drew?" Gary asked. "It's not fair."

Drew sighed and sat down on the grass next to Gary. "To answer your second question," he flicked his hair. "You just need to look like me."

May sat down next to Dawn. "I'll answer Dawn's question as to why we're late. A fan of Drew's came to us and sang to him."

"Ohhhh...that makes sense." Dawn said.

"And the reason we were...holding hands is because…" Drew's voice trailed off and he blushed. "Daisy felt awkward when that fan was singing to me, so I just wanted to give her some assurance."

"Yeah...that's why we were holding hands." May agreed, blushing slightly.

"If you guys say so…" Dawn said.

"Let's just change the topic shall we?" Drew suggested. "Have you guys seen that the theme for Homecoming Week has been decided?"

"Yeah! There are tons of posters around school." Misty said.

"What's the theme?" Ash asked. "I haven't seen the posters yet."

"To the stars." Dawn answered. "It sounds so magical, doesn't it?" She said dreamily.

"Sure does." Misty agreed.

"Wait...Homecoming Week is in exactly a month from now, right?" May/Daisy asked.

"Right." Dawn said. "Starting next week, the entire school will be preparing for Homecoming. The pep rally, the dance, the play, the decorations, there's so much to do!"

"Wait, the play? What play?" May/Daisy asked. Of course she knows what play Dawn is talking about. She's just wondering how she knows about the play.

"Oh. I forgot you weren't here last year." Dawn said. "There's always a play that the theater classes put on during Homecoming Week."

"Oh. Okay." May said.

Drew is looking at May/Daisy and he just nodded, telling her that the gang doesn't know they're the stars of the play.

"So, can I hear more about what Homecoming is like here?" May asked.

"Sure!" Dawn said excitedly.

"I have an idea." Drew said. "How does a sleepover at my place sound?"

"At your mansion? Count me in." Gary said.

"Mansion?" May questioned.

"You'll see it when you get there, but Drew is rich and lives in a mansion." Misty said.

"Really? I didn't know that." May said.

"I try not to brag." Drew said. "So are you in?"

"Umm...I'll have to ask my parents." May answered.

"Okay then." Drew said. "Text me if you can come. How's tomorrow at 12 sound you guys?"

"Sounds good." Misty said.

"You made it. Come on inside." Drew said.

"Thanks." May/Daisy said.

May asked her parents if she could sleepover at a friend's house and they said yes. She flew on one of her Pokémon, a Togekiss. She's now at Drew's mansion. She walks inside and looks around.

"Wow…" She said in awe.

"This is where I live." Drew said. "It's also another reason, I guess, for girls liking me."

"Yeah, I guess I can understand that." May said.

"Well, follow me." Drew said as he walked past May/Daisy.

They started walking up a staircase. "So Drew, you basically said that you're famous with the girls because you're rich, right?" May asked.

"Yeah, that's part of it." Drew answered. "And it's also because of looks, but you know that."

"Yeah…"

They get to the top of the stairs and turn to head to Drew's room.

"Why are you asking about my fans?" Drew asked.

"Oh umm…" May started. "It's just that...you don't find yourself really...liking them as in more than a friend. I'm just wondering if you're one who would like someone based more on personality than looks and if that person likes you in the same way."

Drew stopped walking and May stopped right next to him.

"Why'd you stop?" May asked.

Drew faced May. He stared into her sapphire blue eyes for a while and May started to feel uncomfortable under his stare.

"I'd like to meet someone who really likes me not because of fame and fortune, but because of who I am inside." Drew finally answered.

May just continued staring at him.

Drew looked away. "Let's go. We're almost there to my room where everyone else is."

"Umm okay."

"Ooh! I think it's time for makeovers!" Dawn exclaimed.

"Makeovers?" Drew questioned.

"Yeah! In my bag, I brought lipstick, mascara, eye shadow, foundation, eyeliner, lip gloss, concealer, highlighter, face powder," Dawn said as she pulled out everything when she said their names. "And I even have dresses!" She added as she dumped everything else out of the backpack.

Everyone's mouth hung open at 2 things. The fact that Dawn would fill a backpack with makeover equipment, and the fact of how much could fit in that backpack. There was a giant pile of makeup and dresses, making a giant splash of color on the floor.

"Umm...Dawn?" Misty asked,

"Yeah?" Dawn answered.

"How does all of that...fit in there." Misty said, moving her hand to point at the pile to the backpack.

"Oh Misty. When you're a fashion designer, you make it fit." Dawn said.

"Ahh...so umm...makeovers for the girls?" Misty asked.

"You know I'm in!" Dawn said as she started shoving everything back in her backpack.

"How about you Daisy?" Misty asked.

"Uhh…" May/Daisy replied.

"Come on, it'll be fun! The guys will dress up nicely too." Dawn said.

"Woah woah woah. We never said anything about that." Paul said.

"Yeah, makeovers is a girl thing." Gary said.

"Don't you think I know that?" Dawn said. "We'll do makeup and things, you guys do your hair and just change into nicer clothes."

"Excuse me? Are you saying that our clothes aren't already good-looking?" Drew asked.

"That's exactly what I implied." Dawn said as she stood up. She grabbed Misty's arm and May's arm and they stood up. "We'll see you later boys!" Dawn said as she dragged Misty and May out of the room.

"Okay...so...are we going to change our look?" Ash asked.

"I guess so…" Drew said.

"What do you have for us to wear Drew?" Gary asked.

"Right this way." Drew said as he stood up. He led the boys across his bedroom to a walk-in closet. They walk inside. "I keep the fancy clothes on this side." He signaled with his hand to the left.

They all saw several tuxedos, ties, and dress shoes.

"Okay then. I think we have some girls to impress." Gary said.

"So, what do you think?" Dawn asked.

"I think it's amazing Dawn!" Misty answered happily, looking at herself in the full-length mirror.

The girls are in one of the many guest rooms of the mansion. Dawn just finished Misty's new look. She's wearing a beautiful orange dress to match her hair and she has makeup on too.

"I think it's just the thing to please you know who." Dawn said.

Misty blushed. "I...don't know what you're talking about."

"I'm sure you do." Dawn said. "I know that you like Ash."

"What?! That boy? No way! He's like...so not my type." Misty replied, blush getting worse.

"Mm hm. Sure." Dawn said sarcastically. "So Daisy, it's your turn!"

"Umm...okay." May said.

"Yay! Sit." Dawn pointed to a chair in front of a vanity that's facing away from the vanity.

May sat down in the chair. Dawn sat down on a chair in front of May. "Hmm...I'm thinking...pink."

"Pink?" May questioned.

Dawn grabbed some makeup. "Yep. Pink." She started giving May her makeover, starting with foundation. "I think you'll look amazing in pink."

"Umm...thanks." May said. "Pink happens to be my favorite color."

"That's perfect!" Dawn exclaimed. "I have a dress that you'll just love!"

"Sounds good."

"I don't like Ash. How could she even think that I like Ash? I mean, he's so annoying and sometimes extremely dumb, so why?" Misty muttered to herself while pacing back in forth.

May just stared at Misty. Dawn giggled.

"Oh Misty. You'll admit it sooner or later." Dawn said.

"Admit what? That I like Ash? And that I think he's cute? And that he makes me laugh?" Misty asked.

"Yep. Exactly that." Dawn answered.

Misty grunted and stomped to a bed. She sat down on it angrily.

"O...kay…" May said.

"Sorry about Misty. She's had a crush on Ash for like the longest time ever." Dawn said.

"No I haven't!" Misty defended.

"And she still doesn't want to admit it." Dawn said.

"I see…" May said.

"Close your eyes." Dawn said.

May closed her eyes and Dawn started adding eyeliner and eyeshadow.

"So Dawn, didn't you say you're a fashion designer?" May asked.

"Yeah. I'm taking fashion class at least." Dawn said.

"That's cool. I didn't know there's a fashion class at school." May said.

"Yeah. Someday I hope to be a famous fashion designer. Making clothes for girls of all ages." Dawn said. "Or at least for my friends."

"That sounds like a good goal." May said. "Once you become a famous fashion designer, I'll be the first to buy one of your dresses."

"Thanks!" Dawn exclaimed.
