FernGully

This fanfic was inspired by the beautiful artwork of animetist, "Tiny Curiousities". As such, I am staying true to her depiction of everyone, only adding my own twists for what is missing, (aka: Characters missing in her fanart, minus Mineta cuz he is just a loser to me and I will make changes depending on her artwork) I am also avoiding calling this Tiny Curiousities to avoid copyright and theft charges lol. I wanted it to be M rated, but I suck at sex scenes. I can only make it steamy lol, so this will be PG-13. My Hero Academia is not mine, so I do not own anything except the idea of making this fanfic. This is for you guys!

Chapter 1: When sky and water touch

Katsuki Bakugou had found himself in a troublesome situation. All because he could never back down from a challenge. And right now, the hotheaded butterfly was wishing he would have! He was being chased by a damn bee!

He had gone to the far side of the meadow, by the babbling brook, to get a few rudbeckias for Sero, the snake. That side of the meadow had an infestation of bees this year because there had been a high yield in flowers. And he had gotten too close to one of the hives and a drone had decided to take out the threat.

A little background for you, Katsuki Bakugou was a Monarch Butterfly from Ferngully. A little place where all sorts of forest creatures lived in harmony, helping each other and striving to survive as climate changes and human encroachment had forced several species of animal and insect to seek sanctuary in the forest. And Bakugou was the only child of a family of Monarch butterflies. Unable to migrate due to his father having a missing wing due to a human child trying to catch him. It didn't stop the young Monarch from trying to make the most of it and prove to everyone around he was the best.

One of his closest friends, not that he would admit it, was the red corn snake, Hanata Sero. He and Rikido Sato were the only snakes in the village. But they knew where there were good food sources, so they were the only snakes allowed in Ferngully. Also they had to promise not to eat anyone in the village. Hanta prided himself on getting Bakugou to do just about anything as long as he played on Bakugou's complex that he could do anything better than anyone around. Hanata was an orphan. He hatched alone in this world, so he was looked after by the Bakugous, hence why he knew their son so well.

Now, Katsuki Bakugou was zipping through the meadow trying to shake the bee of his trail. He was furious. He'd be able to fly much faster had he not been carrying several flowers in his arm. Making maneuvering that much harder.

"Quit following me already you stupid bee!" he barked, making a break for the brook. Insects hated water, but bees avoided it like their life depended on it. If he could make it past it, the bee would break off pursuit. Katsuki glanced back over his shoulder as he was just getting to the brook's edge. The bee reared it's back end forward, bringing it's stinger out.

"Dammit, I said buzz off!" he roared as he flittered his wings as fast as he could. If that bee landed a hit anywhere on him, he was a goner.

"Tsk!" the click of his tongue was made as he reached for his hook. Thanks to the Midoriya's, a family of chipmunks and inventors. And the only son, Izuku, loved making things out of or with human things. And Izuku had modified a fishing hook so it could be used as an anchor for climbing, a weapon or to use as a pulley system for gathering or building. So right now, Katsuki would have to use it as a weapon.

But as he wheeled around to brace himself for a fight, a huge splash of water shot up from the brook and drenched the bee, effectively knocking it onto the ground. Katsuki looked around, wondering what had happened. When he looked down to the water, he saw a fish. No, it was a merkin. His tan skin was dark in the water, just below the surface. But what caught Katsuki off guard was his red hair and tail. He was gorgeous. Did he save him? Wait… Save him? Katsuki didn't need any saving!

"Oi! Fishface! Did I look like I needed your help?" Katsuki barked as the merkin poked his head out of the water. His red hair had looked spiked in the water, but now, it hung in his face. Katsuki lowered himself to a lillypad nearby and glared at the fish.

"I had everything under control!" he insisted. But the Merkin had yet to say anything to Katsuki, in all honesty. Just swam up to the lilypad,

"So don't think I'm gonna thank you." He knelt down to get a better look at the merkin. Not only was his hair red, but so were his eyes. A deep but soft crimson. There were also markings on his skin, but Katsuki couldn't understand the symbols. Merkin had their own language. The Merkin hoisted himself up on the lily pad as if to get a better look at Katsuki. But his face held much curiosity there, unlike Katsuki's glare.

"A rare type huh? Think you're better just cause I'm a common Monarch and you're a-" he squinted as he stared at the merkin's tail, taking note of his unusual fins and coloring. His scales started out as a bright red, like the sunset, then slowly darken into a brown like the brook's floor rocks. Some kind of jewelry was twisted around his tail too, it matched the single gauntlet on his right wrist as well as the ear clips on his ears.

"A rock fish? No…" the words left his mouth before he could decide on his conclusion. But quickly settled on a species name,

"A Fighting fish?" Katsuki tried to sound sure, but in truth he wasn't, before wondering why he was all that hung up on that anyway. He glared at the Merkin as he waited for an excuse. But the Merkin just raised his arm up towards Katsuki, but hesitated.

Katsuki's antennae twitched, a habit from nerves. He didn't know what he wanted. But when the Merkin's hand stretched out more to gently touch Katsuki's wing, his mind quit working after that. It was surprisingly a soft touch, a stroke of his left wing, tracing the design of it. It surprised Katsuki just how sensitive his wing was. Whenever he injured it or strained it from overuse, sure, it hurt like hell. But he pushed through the pain. This touching… made his knees go weak. Then made his face feel hot.

He realized they were just sitting there, the Merkin touching his wing, and him letting it happen, for what felt like hours. Katsuki's face flushed beet red and he shoved the flowers he had in his arms into the Merkin's face, who made a sound that sounded like a laugh.

"Shut up and just take everything!" He shouted in a hurried breath before taking off to head home.

The Merkin smiled as he watched Katsuki fly off, but the smile slowly faded into a deep frown, one of sadness. He didn't want the beautiful creature to leave yet. He let out a dejected sigh and dove back into the water, wondering if he'd ever see the beautiful butterfly again.

Meanwhile, Katsuki had made it back home to FernGully, and had unsuccessfully dodged Sero. When he had tried to make a bee line for the forest floor, the snake had quickly grabbed the bug and kept him tight in his coils. Annoyed, Sero hissed at his friend. The Monarch had come back empty handed, which was unusual in itself, but that's not what annoyed Sero. It was the fact he tried to hide from Sero like he'd get eaten if he knew Katsuki returned without the flowers. Tucking the acorn he had pulled off the tree they were in to munch on, he glanced over at Katsuki,

"I'll get those dumb flowers before you can even blink, Booger worm!" Sero said, not at all trying to sound like Katsuki, while using his free hand to do air quotes. Katsuki grumbled and pouted in his usual "Aw shut up" fashion as Sero continued

"So? Where are my dumb rudbeckias, Huh?" He gave Katsuki a second to respond. But he only clicked his tongue at Sero, who squeezed a little more on Katsuki,

"Spill it, tight lips." Katsuki's wings, which were not in Sero's coils because he had no intention of hurting his friend, faltered and drooped behind him. Feel not only defeated but heavily embarrassed. No way was he going to tell this damn snake what had really happened.

"There was a bee." was all he grumbled out to offer up as an excuse. But Sero didn't buy it,

"Never stopped you before." He pointed out, hearing Katsuki click his tongue again, this time in annoyance. Of course the snake didn't buy it. His face flushed again, but only slightly as he turned in Sero's coils a little so he could keep his face turned from him as he refused to show Sero.

"I was robbed." he tried again. In Katsuki's mind, this is what honestly happened. But Sero furrowed his brow, clearly confused.

"And just WHO would you let rob you, exactly?" He pried a little. What was his friend getting at this time?
