Alex was barely in bed when Asher got fussy again and she stood up picking up the boy.
"What's wrong, mister? You do know it's 3am right. And mommy is so so tired." She said to the crying baby almost certain he had no idea what his mother was saying to him at the moment. She felt his head to check his temperature and he was fine. She checked his diaper again and there was no need for a change. She had absolutely no idea what the problem was.
Taking him out of the bedroom so his father can continue sleeping. Setting him down on the couch she tried nursing him to see if that'll help but even then he he'll latch for a few minutes and continue his cries. Out of wisdom and not knowing what else to do Alex felt defeated and started to cry herself.
"Ash it would be nice if you could tell me what's wrong." She chuckled running a hand through her hair.
Phoebe emrerged from her bedroom and saw her mom and brother sleeping on the couch. "Mama, why you here? Go bed." The toddler said tapping her mom's shoulder until Alex woke up.
"You need to be really quiet so Asher can continue sleeping okay." Alex suggested to her daughter hoping her tone of voice was low enough so Asher can continue sleeping but it didn't help. He started wailing as soon as he opened his eyes.
"Mama why Ashie sad?" Phoebe asked trying to put the pacifier into her brother's mouth to get him to settle down.
"Mama, mama!" Phoebe continued when her mother stopped paying attention to her and laid with her head against the back of the couch. "Mama Ashie is sad! Why?"
"I don't know why Phoebe!" Alex exploded. She wish she knew why her son barely slept the night, which doesn't always happen. "I wish I knew why he's crying but I don't know." She yelled, now resulting in a toddler poking out her lip and starting to cry as well.
Ryan emerged at the top of the staircase looking at the picture in front of him. His wife in tears trying to calm down his Phoebe and Asher. He ran down the stairs and saw Luca came out from the guest bedroom as well. Wordlessly Ryan took Asher from Alex and told her to go get some sleep, while Luca took Phoebe to the kitchen so the two of them can get breakfast started.
"So what would you like to eat Pheebs?" Luca asked placing hie niece on the kitchen counter, locating a paper towel so he can wipe her face.
"Ice- cream!" She smiled throwing her hands up in the air.
"Okay, I tell you what. We can eat ice cream for breakfast as long as you don't tell mom and dad about it okay." Luca smiled getting her pink plastic bowl from the cupboard scooping ice cream into the bowl . He picked her up and set her down on the chair watching his niece eat ice cream while Ryan managed to calm Asher down.
When Asher calmed down Ryan handed him over to Luca and walked upstairs to check on his wife.
Alex laid curled up on her side of the bed her eyes closed, breathing steady. Ryan thought she was asleep but she opened her eyes when she heard footsteps coming towards the bed.
"Are they okay?" She asked and Ryan nodded.
"Phoebe's eating ice cream for breakfast and Asher's with Luca." He explained. "Are you okay?" He asked laying doen beside her as she curled up into his side.
"I didn't mean to snap on Phoebe. I am just so tired I barely slept last night. I have no idea why Asher's been crying non stop when he seems fine he doesn't have a tempereature he isn't hungry he has a clean diaper." She breathed looking up at her husband.
"Makes me feel like a bad mother for not understanding my son."
Ryan pulled her closer to him. "This is a learning curve for me too. Asher is so much different that Phoebe was. Feels like a learning process all over again." He admitted.
"I think we're done after two. I don't want anymore."
Ryan looked at her woth a frown on his face. "Are you crazy woman. I want a football team." He laughed kissing her forehead.
