Ryan laid in the hospital bed texting his best friend his diagnosis before turning the phone face down on the bedside table. The phone buzzed again as soon as he set it down, his wife notifying him that she is home save and that Shelby will be staying the night. After tossing and turning for a few hours Ryan gave up on sleep and turned the TV o instead, not paying attention to the images moving on the screen.
Alex peered into her daughter's room seeing the toddler sleeping soundly, turning her back she heard her son cry and Alex tended to him. Shelby settling into the guest bedroom when Alex stopped her.
"I'm used to someone sleeping next to me, so you better get your butt into my room." Alex said smiling to the blonde as she moved her things towards her best friend's bedroom. It was easy to determine which side belonged to Alex and which to Ryan. So she settled on getting comfortable on Alex's side of the bed.
"Hey big boy, what's wrong?" She asked approaching his crib and as soon as Asher was in his mother's arms he settled down. Nestling his head in the crook of her neck, grabbing a fistful of her hair. "You just missed me huh." Alex smiled kissing the top of his head. "It's okay, I won't tell anyone you're a mama's boy."
Alex sat down in the nursery with Asher when her phone started buzzing. Surprised to see her husband's face on FaceTime. "Why aren't you sleeping?" She asked smiling at the phone.
"I can ask the two of you the same. Is something wrong with Asher?" Ryan asked concerned. Something Alex noticed, that he'd put his health and well being on hold for his family.
"No he's fine he was just fussy." She said.
When Asher noticed the familiar voice he lifted his head and his mother positioned him so he can see the screen. With chubby hands he tried to grab the phone from Alex's hand making his parents giggle. After Ryan exchanged some conversation with his son Alex turned her attention back to her husband and her face that was smiling earlier, grew to concern again.
"I'm worried about you. Are you sure we shouldn't tell your mom?" Alex asked and Ryan shook his head.
"Who's the one with the tumor? Me or you? Does it look like I worry?" Ryan asked trying to make light of the situation and when he didn't get the response he wanted he became serious again. "Okay, let's say we call them and say I have a tumor. They'd have questions a lot of questions and neither me nor you would be able to answer them because we don't even know what's going on yet."
Alex nodded her head, he had a point. Asher started falling asleep and she put the phone down for a while so she can lay her son down. Planting a kiss on the top of his head before returning to the facetime conversation with her husband again. She walked out of the nursery and sat in the lounge. He had a point although she did not want to admit it.
"When I drop the kids tomorrow morning I'll come to the hospital, and go to work from there." Alex said and Ryan nodded. "But if they're conducting tests tomorrow I'd want to be there the entire day. Just in case some-" She cut herself off when she noticed what she was about to say.
"Just in case something happens." Ryan completed her sentence and Alex looked up to the roof blinking rapidly so the tears in her eyes can go away. "Let's make a deal alright, as tough as this gets, we're gonna be honest with each other. Brutally honest." He said.
"What do you mean?" Alex asked genuinely confused.
"I mean if it comes to it that I end up on life support or I don't wake up after an operation or if I feel horrible on a day. I'm gonna tell you how I feel."
"And if I end up on life support you turn of the machines."
"Ryan please, don't say that you promised me you would fight." Alex whispered her voice full of emotion
"And if I die you move on with your life . If you meet someone else who makes you happy and looks after our children like they're his own then you continue living. Don't put your life on hold." Ryan continued disregarding his wife's pleas.
Alex didn't say anything she shook her head at the requests Ryan made with a hand to her mouth trying not to make a sound as she sobbed. Ryan stayed on the phone until Alex calmed down and she answered him.
"I can't promise you anything." She said honestly..
"Alright, try and get some sleep. I'll see you tomorrow." He said calmly, and there was something about the tone in his voice, the calmness he had that scared her. "I love you Alex."
"I love you too." She sniffed waving goobye to the screen before ending the call.
HI guys I'm still not doing very well mentally but I'm trying to look for a silver lining that seems really hard to find right now. Thank you for reading. I really appreciate your reviews, it makes me smile knowing you guys enjoy the story. Your suggestions are welcome. Also, I've lost track of where Luca is, so somewhere I'll have to bring him back I just don't know where yet or where he went even. Any ideas on that would be welcome also. What do you guys think will happen to Ryan?
Lovies-S
