Chapter 37: The Golden Rose

"Okay Flygon, land here." Drew said. He's riding on his Flygon over a large field of flowers. Not just any flower. Roses. Flygon lands gently in the huge rose garden.

Drew knows that Princess May's birthday is today. Part of his gift will be getting her fresh roses straight from this garden. The second part...and he's extremely nervous for this...he wants to ask May out on a date. Their first date. He knows that she's probably busy with Princess duties, but he should at least give it a try. He also knows that the King and Queen won't be happy to know that May has fallen for a commoner, so he must sneak into the castle somehow and ask. It's also Saturday, which means no school today.

"These roses are perfect for the Princess, don't you think so Flygon?" Drew asked while walking through the field.

"Fly~!" Flygon answered happily.

"I just know that she'll love them." Drew said. "And this will be the first day that I see the inside of the castle."

Drew kneeled down and carefully started picking flowers. Flygon is flying above the field, making sure no one will attack Drew from out of nowhere.

"Fly~!" Flygon said once he noticed something. Drew looked up.

"What is it Flygon?" Drew asked.

"Fly~!" Flygon flew down again and landed a bit away from where Drew is. "Fly~!" Flygon moved his head downwards, pointing to something with his head.

"What'd you find?" Drew asked as he walked to where Flygon is. Drew looked down at the roses where Flygon is pointing. He kneeled down again.

"Is this…?" Drew said as he picked a particular rose. He looked closely at it. "It's...gold."

"Fly~!" Flygon agreed.

Drew gently touched the petals. "It's a real rose, but it's...gold color. Why is it gold?"

"Fly~!" Flygon said. Drew stood up and pet Flygon on his head.

"Thanks Flygon, for finding this." Drew said. He then looked back down at the golden rose between his hands.

"I can't believe gold roses like this exist…" Drew said. He twiddled the rose between both hands.

As he kept doing that, yellow smoke came out from the rose and gathered in front of him. Drew looked up and they both stared at the puff of yellow smoke that's hovering above the ground. The yellow smoke finally revealed to have a head, an upper body, and arms, no legs. It's gender also seems to be male.

Drew's mouth was slightly open at the sight of the golden creature before him.

"Oh, great one. Terrible one that commands me. I'm the genie of the rose. I am loyal to wishes three." The golden genie said in a deep voice.

Drew didn't answer as he just stared at the giant golden genie floating right in front of him, mouth agape.

"Umm...hello...oh, great...powerful…" the genie said looking around.

The genie changed his size to be slightly taller than Drew. "Umm...hello…" The genie said waving a hand in front of Drew's face.

Drew blinked and snapped out of his trance.

"Kid, where's your boss?" The genie asked.

"M-my boss?" Drew asked.

"Yeah. You know...he's killed people...buried bodies…" The genie said.

"Uhh…" Drew said and he continued staring at the genie.

"So where's that guy?" The genie asked.

"Well...here in Petalburg…" Drew started. "None of that stuff happens."

"No killing?" The genie asked. Drew shook his head. "No burying bodies?" Drew shook his head again.

"Well, unless it's from natural causes that that person passed away." Drew said.

"Huh." The genie said. "So you twirled the rose?"

Drew looked down at the rose and then back up at the genie. "I...guess so…"

"Well alrighty then!" The genie exclaimed, growing to its bigger size. "What can I get ya?"

"Huh?" Drew asked.

The genie shrunk again to be slightly taller than Drew. "What can I get for you?" The genie asked again.

Drew stared at him in confusion.

"Kid, is something clogging up your ears?" The genie asked as he teleported right next to Drew and tilted his head to look inside his ear.

"Yep. Lot of earwax." The genie said. Drew swung his arms to shoo the genie away from his ear. The genie teleported back to in front of him.

"I heard you. I'm just a bit confused." Drew said.

"Obviously you're confused." The genie said. "Let me explain this for you...in a song!" The genie grew giant again.

(This is the song "Friend Like Me" from Aladdin with some change in some lyrics.)

The genie used his magic and made a radio appear. He clicked play. "Well Pokémon World has too many thieves." The genie sang as he made a ton of guys with swords appear and surround Drew. Drew freaked out a little from the swords. The guys disappeared. "And it also has a thousand tales." The genie continued as he made the legendary lake trio Mesprit, Uxie, and Azelf appear. They flew around Drew. Drew spun around to see them. They disappeared.

"But master you in luck 'cause up your sleeves," The genie sang as he teleported and appeared in Drew's sleeve. Drew shooed him out of his sleeve. "You got a brand of magic never fails."

"You got some power in your corner now." The genie sang as he bulked up his muscles. "Only three cons and the majority pros." The genie made a whiteboard appear with the list of cons. It quickly disappeared before Drew could read it.

"You got some punch, pizzazz, yahoo, and how." The genie sang as he punched the air, then he made it rain glitter, and then he punched the sky in excitement. "See all you gotta do is twirl that rose." The genie disappeared into the rose and controlled Drew's movements to twirl the rose between his fingers. The genie's yellow smoke came out of the rose again and he appeared while singing, "And I'll say."

"Mister, man, what's your name?" Drew opened his mouth to answer but the genie continued. "Whatever, what will your pleasure be?" The genie created a small restaurant and sat Drew at a table. The waiters were all copies of the genie. "Let me take your order, I'll jot it down." One genie sang as he handed Drew a menu. "You ain't never had a friend like me."

"Life is your restaurant and I'm your maître d'." The genie handed Drew a napkin. "Come, whisper to me whatever it is you want." The genie sang after he shrunk to the size of an ear and hovered next to Drew's ear, whispering. "You ain't never had a friend like me." All of the genie waiters sang at the same time.

The genie made the restaurant disappear. "We pride ourselves on service. You the boss, the King, the shah!" The genie sang as he made a royal throne appear and put Drew on it, wearing a crown. "Say what you wish, it's yours! True dish!" The genie waiters held out plates of food to Drew. Drew stood up and avoided the plates in his face. "How about a little more baklava!" The throne and crown disappeared and Drew is now walking through the flower field.

"Have some of column A." The genie made a long row of clothes on hangers appear next to Drew. Drew took an outfit from a hanger and put it on. It was a royal cape. "Try all of column B." The genie made a row of clothes appear on the other side of Drew. Drew picked out something from it and put it on. It was a different and more regal crown than before.

"I'm in the mood to help you dude. You ain't never had a friend like me." The genie sang as he controlled Drew's movements with strings like a puppet.

The genie was controlling Drew and making him dance. There were lights and backup dancers. They danced to the beat of the music.

"Can your friends do this?" The genie and Drew both pointed to their left. A duplicate of the genie was making wild Pokémon appear out of thin air. They flew around him and ran around him. "Can your friends do that?" The genie and Drew both pointed to the right. Another duplicate of the genie was whipping a glittery lasso back and forth, jumping through the hole. "Can your friends pull this?" The genie whipped the lasso to Drew and pulled a hat off of his head with it. Drew never wore a hat, the genie just made it appear like a magic trick. "Out they little hat?" He pulled a pink and green carpet with a beautiful flower design out of the hat. The carpet flew around Drew and Drew watched it, mouth slightly open.

The carpet stopped moving and they sat down on it. "Don't sit there buggy-eyed. I'm here to answer all your midday prayers. You got me bona fide, certified." The genie sang as he handed Drew a rolled up paper that must be like a certification. "You got a genie for your charge d'affaires." They got off of the carpet.

"I got a powerful urge to help you out." The genie sang after he put a hand on Drew's shoulder. "So what's your wish? I really wanna know." The genie added as he teleported to Drew's other side. "You got a list that's three miles long, no doubt." The genie opened up the paper that was the "certification" and it rolled out over the rose garden, reaching three miles long. "All you gotta do is twirl like so." The genie imagined he was holding a rose and while Drew was twirling the golden rose between his fingers, the genie was doing the motion too.

"Mister" The genie continued, wanting Drew to finish for him.

"Drew." Drew said.

"Yes! One wish or two or three." The genie continued. "Well, I'm on the job, you big nabob. You ain't never had a friend, never had a friend," the genie sang as he teleported all over the place. "You ain't never had a friend, never had a friend, you ain't never," The genie kept making lights and Pokémon appear like dancing Aipom and Pikachu, and flying Beautifly and Masquerain. He also made Copperajah appear and all kinds of Pokémon. "Had a. Friend. Like. Me!" The genie was dancing with everyone. "You ain't never had a friend like me."

The music ended and everything disappeared and they were back to where they started. Everything disappeared except the magic carpet.

"I...can't believe…" Drew said as he looked at the magic carpet.

"You can keep it if you want." The genie said.

Drew looked up. "No. I couldn't."

"Why not? It seems to like you." The genie pointed out.

The carpet was flying around Drew like it was excited.

"But, magic...genies…" Drew said as he paced back and forth. "All of...that." He added, motioning his hands at the genie.

"What about me?"

"I just…" Drew said once he stopped walking. "I don't know if this is real. This is definitely a dream."

"A dream, huh?" The genie asked.

Drew turned to Flygon. "Okay Flygon, use Flamethrower on me to wake me up."

"Fly~?" Flygon questioned.

"Don't worry. I won't get hurt if this is a dream." Drew said.

Flygon prepared to use its Flamethrower.

"Woah woah woah, hold on." The genie said as he floated to the middle of Drew and Flygon. Flygon stopped preparing Flamethrower.

"Why do you think this is a dream?" The genie asked.

"Because magic doesn't exist." Drew said simply.

"Hey. Magic does exist, because I'm here."

Drew just crossed his arms.

"Just trust me, kid." The genie said.

"The name's Drew."

"Right, right." The genie said. "I apologize Master Drew."

"This is definitely a dream." Drew said.

"Hey. Trust me Drew. I'm all real." The genie said.

"So since you're a genie...as you say you are…" Drew said. "You can grant me wishes."

"Yes siree!" The genie said. "But before I make magic happen, there are a few rules I have to go over."

("Of course…") Drew thought as he rolled his eyes. "Let's hear them."

"Okay. Rule number one." The genie said, holding up a number one with his finger. "You can't wish for more wishes. You get three and that's it."

"Okay." Drew said. "Next." Drew already knows what the three rules are. He's seen the movie "Aladdin" and he starred in the school play of it. Drew just wanted to let the genie say what he needs to say.

"Rule number two." The genie said. "I can't bring anyone back from the dead." He said as he turned green and looked like a zombie. "And finally, rule number 3. I can't make anyone fall in love with anyone else." He said as his hands were clasped together and his eyes were hearts.

Drew rolled his eyes.

"Other than that, your wish is my command." The genie said.
