Chapter 46: Battle Won

"Show me what you can do." Kiara challenged.

"Don't worry. I will." May said confidently.

Kiara made the first attack by launching a purple beam at May from her staff. ("Drew's alive and he believes that I can win this. I can't let him down.") May thought.

"Love beam." May said. Her scepter shot out a pink beam of light that collided with the purple beam.

May and Kiara didn't stop firing. They kept making their beams stronger and stronger. "You won't win, May!" Kiara yelled.

May closed her eyes as she continued using Love Beam. "Everyone is counting on me…" May said quietly to herself. She shot her eyes open. "And I won't let Hoenn down!" Her pink beam got thicker and more powerful. May's beam overpowered Kiara's and pushed it back.

Kiara tried to make the purple beam stronger, but she failed to do that. May's beam made contact with Kiara. She got that direct hit and fell to the ground on her face. May's scepter is pretty powerful she must admit.

May's stopped the beam. She fell down to one knee and was panting heavily. It seems like the scepter really took all the energy out of her.

Drew gasped. "May."

Kiara slowly started getting back up. "You...really won't give up." Kiara breathed.

May slowly stood back up as well. "Kiara...you don't need to take revenge on Hoenn because they saw me as the future Queen and not you…"

"You just don't understand it, do you?" Kiara asked angrily.

May looked at her confused.

"All my life, I've been only...second best." Kiara said. "You were always the most-loved Princess with the people. You would help them out. You would talk to them. And they enjoyed having you around all the time. But me…"

"They loved you too." May said. "You just didn't realize it."

Kiara didn't respond. May just continued.

"There's more to being a Queen, Kiara." May said. "The people want their Queen to be kind...compassionate…" May paused before continuing. "And it takes a lot of responsibility to protect all of Hoenn. It takes good leadership skills...a good heart…"

Kiara thought about what May was saying. Norman, Caroline, Dahlia, and Drew all smile at May's speech.

"You're a Princess of Hoenn…" May continued. "And as a Princess, you should be able to tell wrong from right."

Kiara looked at her staff and frowned.

"Please Kiara…" May said. "Let's protect Hoenn together as Princesses."

Kiara looked back at May.

Everyone watched May and Kiara talk it out, hoping that she'll give up this fight.

Kiara lifted her staff up horizontally in front of her. She let go of it and dropped it on the floor. The purple jewel shattered and purple smoke came out of it, surrounding Kiara. The smoke circles her and completely covers her. In the smoke, Kiara is transforming back into her normal self, her evil outfit changing, her staff disappearing, her crown turned back to normal and fell off of her head on its side. It rolled its way over to May, tapped her foot, and fell flat in front of her. The purple smoke cleared to reveal that the Queen of Mean is now gone. Princess Kiara is back. The royal guards turned back to normal in one quick second and the dark rain clouds went away to reveal a rainbow.

May bent down to pick up the Queen's crown. During Kiara's transformation back to normal, Caroline also transformed back into the Queen with her elegant outfit. It was now May's turn to turn back to normal. Her outfit changed and the pink streaks in her hair turned back to being brown. Kiara took a step towards May, only to feel weak in her legs and fall to one knee.

"Kiara!" May yelled worriedly. She started running towards Kiara. After 3 steps, May found herself falling to one knee. She watched as her sister fell completely to the ground, unconscious.

"May." Drew said once he stood next to her. He kneeled down next to May and held her arm to help her stand.

"Drew..." May said weakly, struggling to stand. Thankfully, she didn't fall to the ground like Kiara did. She managed to stand and as soon as she did, she hugged Drew tightly.

Drew returned the hug. "I'm glad you're safe." He whispered in her ear.

"Me too, but…" May pulled away from Drew. She looked at Kiara. Everyone saw two royal guards carefully lift Kiara up.

Every single royal guard in town walks to May, waiting for orders on what to do.

"You all can go back to your posts now." May said. "And carefully take Kiara to the castle infirmary."

The royal guards all started walking to the castle. May walked forward to all of the people that Kiara forced out of their homes.

Drew saw the golden rose fall out of Kiara's pocket. None of the guards noticed it. Drew walked to it and picked it up, putting it in his pocket.

"You all can go on back to your homes!" May said to the people that were forced out by Kiara. They all separated and started walking back home.

"Thank you so much Princess!"

"You saved the day!"

"You're our hero!"

May turned around and walked back to Drew. "Let's go." She said to Drew. They started walking back to Caroline, Norman, and Dahlia.

"Mom, I believe this is yours." May said as she held out the crown to her Mom.

"Thank you May." Caroline said as she took the crown and put it on.

Norman stared at Drew. Drew felt nervous under the King's stare, so he decided to take a step back, to not be so close to May.

"May." Norman said. "I'm sure you'd want to go see Kiara."

"Right. I want to see if she'll wake up." May said.

"Then you should go check on her right now." Norman said.

"Umm...hold on for just a moment." May said. She turned around.

May hoped to see Drew still standing there, but he wasn't there. She looked around, but she saw no signs of him.

"Drew?" May said quietly to herself.

"What are you looking for May?" Caroline asked.

"Drew." She answered as she turned around to face her parents. "The green-haired person who was here a moment ago. Where did he go?"

"Oh. That boy…" Caroline said. "We just saw him back up and then he let out a Flygon and he flew away on it."

"What? Why didn't you tell me earlier?" May asked.

"We were talking to you." Norman said. "And besides, I don't think that you should be talking with that boy."

"What? Why?" May asked.

"I don't like the way he looks at you." Norman answered.

"And what's that supposed to mean?" May asked, anger and sadness building up inside of her.

"You are to not associate yourself so closely with commoners." Norman said.

"But Dad-"

"I won't hear of it May." Norman cut May off. "You will have no contact with that boy or anyone else from school because you're no longer going to be leaving castle grounds."

May gasped. "N-no speaking with the people?" Her eyes started getting watery. She wants to find out why Drew just left without saying anything. And now...she won't be allowed to even see him.

"Norman, maybe that's going too far." Caroline said.

"No it isn't. I don't want our daughter to have that kind of connection with commoners." Norman said.

"You're...you're...you're...being unfair!" May cried. She ran towards the castle, crying her eyes out.

"Norman…" Caroline said sadly.

"You know how commoners can be." Norman said. "They'll just try to use Royalty to become rich and famous."

"If I may, Your Majesties." Dahlia said.

Caroline and Norman faced her. "Go ahead Dahlia." Caroline said.

"Drew's not like that." Dahlia said. "He won't use May to get to the crown and become rich. He's already rich and I know that May and Drew love each other."

"Love?! Love?!" Norman yelled. "She can't fall in love with someone who isn't a Prince. I won't stand for it!"

With that said, Norman stomped off to the castle angrily.

"Is Drew really in love with May?" Caroline asked.

"Yes he is." Dahlia answered. "You saw how Drew saved May from plummeting to the ground earlier. He cares deeply for her."

"Hmm...he did seem protective over her…" Caroline said.

"Please. Can you try and convince King Norman that Drew won't take advantage of May?"

"I can't do that. It's the rule that the Princess must marry a Prince." Caroline said.

"Right. I understand. It's just that...I know for a fact that May would only want to be with Drew and no one else." Dahlia said.

"Are you going to be okay May?" Dahlia asked.

May is currently faced down on her bed. She's crying that she won't be able to leave the castle anymore and she'll be kept inside like before.

"No." May said, her voice muffled in her blanket. "I...I...I want to be with Drew." She continued crying.

"I know. It's going to be okay." Dahlia said as she patted May's back.

"But...no friends...no talking to the people...and no...Drew." May cried some more. "How could my Dad say that I shouldn't talk to Drew anymore? Drew saved my life today! He cares about me…"

"Hey, maybe Drew can still visit through the balcony." Dahlia said.

May immediately lifted herself up. "Maybe…but still…I won't be able to be with him like I want."

"On the bright side, you can talk to him." Dahlia said.

"Yeah…" May said. "I think I'll call him right now and figure out why he left so suddenly." She said as she grabbed her phone.

"Hi May." Drew said into the phone.

"Hi...Drew." May said, sniffling.

"May? Are you...crying?" Drew questioned.

May wiped some tears away. "N-no I'm not. I'm just…"

"May, why'd you call?" Drew asked.

"I-I wanted to know why you left so suddenly." May answered.

"Oh. I left because I figure your parents wouldn't want to talk to me."

Drew heard May crying again on the phone.

"May, what's wrong?" Drew asked.

"I want...to see you." May answered between sniffles.

"May...maybe I shouldn't-"

"Please Drew." May cut Drew off.

"...okay then. I'm on my way." Drew said. He hung up the phone and started flying on the magic carpet to Petalburg City.

"He's on his way." May said to Dahlia.

"That's good. You can explain why you're crying to him." Dahlia said.

"Mm hm." May agreed. In five minutes, Drew was flying in Petalburg City to the castle. He flew to the side of it to go towards May's balcony.

What Drew didn't know was that some royal guards below him spotted him and they started going up the stairs of the castle and headed to May's room. Drew landed on May's balcony.

Drew entered May's room. "May."

May turned around and immediately stood up and ran to him, wrapping her arms around his neck and hugging him. She's still slightly crying. "Drew...I-I...I don't want to be…"

Drew hugged May back, one hand holding the back of her head. "Shhh…" Drew said. May calmed down a little and relaxed. "Tell me what happened when I left."

"M-my Dad...he-"

The door slammed open. May and Drew immediately released each other and looked to who walked in May's room. Four royal guards. They walked towards Drew.

May stepped in front of them, stopping them. "W-what are you doing here?" She asked.

"Step aside Princess. He's an intruder." One guard said.

"But you can't make him leave." May said. "I won't let you."

"Move aside May."

The four guards stepped to the sides to reveal Norman standing there with an angry look on his face.

"I thought I told you not to speak with him anymore." Norman said.

("That's why...May is crying…") Drew thought.

"It's either he leaves or he goes to the dungeon." Norman continued.

"Dad, no!" May yelled. "You can't make him leave!"

"I can't?" Norman questioned angrily.

"May." Drew said quietly.

May turned around.

"I should go." Drew said. He started walking out to the balcony and May reached out and grabbed his hand.

"No Drew. Please." May said. More tears came out of her eyes. "I don't want to be separated from you."

Drew is currently looking down while May is holding onto his hand. With a swift movement, he turned back around to face May and he walked closer to her. He placed a soft kiss on her forehead.

Norman saw his actions and got even angrier. "Throw him in the dungeon!"

The guards started approaching Drew. Drew backed away from May and pulled his hand out of her grasp. He gave a smile to May before running to the balcony and jumping off of it and onto the carpet. With that, everyone saw him fly away.

"Drew…" May muttered to herself.

"A magic carpet…" Norman said. "Guards, back to your posts. If you see him anywhere on castle grounds, capture him and bring him to me."

"Right!" The four guards said in unison. Norman and the guards left May's room.

"Capture?" May muttered.

"May, I'm so sorry." Dahlia said.

May threw herself on the bed, face down. "It's not your fault Dahlia...It's mine." She said, crying.

"How is it your fault?"

"If I didn't plead for him to come over, he wouldn't have and he wouldn't almost get thrown in the dungeon."

"I'm sure he would've come either way." Dahlia said. "He was worried about why you're crying."

"Yeah...but...I didn't get to even talk to him for two minutes…" May said. "I couldn't really explain anything and he has something to explain to me as well. I just hope that he doesn't think this is his fault."
