Chapter 51: Drew's Birthday
It's still Drew's birthday. The day after the last day of school. The day when May sang Kiara that song about being a Princess. And the gang is currently at Drew's mansion in LaRousse City for Drew's birthday. And remember, May sent Beautifly to deliver Drew's present to him. Let's see what the letter from May says…
"Beau~!"
The gang was all in the backyard of the mansion because there's a large pool there, so they're all chilling. The boys are lounging on beach lounges and the girls are in the water. They all look towards a Pokémon's voice in the sky. They see a Beautifly.
Drew was currently lounging on a beach lounge, but he now sat up straight. The Beautifly perched itself on Drew's head after handing him the present and letter.
"Who's Beautifly is that?" Dawn asked.
"This is what I told you guys about." Drew said. "May and I communicate in letters."
"Ooh! What's in the present?" Dawn asked excitedly.
"Hold on. I'll read the letter first." Drew said. He started reading the letter out loud.
Dear Drew,
I'm not mad at you for keeping the genie a secret. I just hope that I can formally meet him someday. Anyway, happy birthday! I can't be there to celebrate with you and everyone else, but I did still want to give you the present that came with this letter. It's something you've really been wanting for a long time. I hope you like it.
From,
May
"Oh yeah...we're supposed to meet the genie…" Ash said.
"Yeah, where is he?" Gary asked.
"Hold your Horsea." Drew said.
"Open the present." Dawn said. "What have you been wanting?"
Drew took off the giant red rose bow that was on the top and he tore the wrapping paper off the box. Drew was now staring at the display box with the Shiny Stone in it. He gasped silently.
"She really…" Drew breathed.
"What is it?" Ash asked. Dawn and Misty got out of the pool and everyone walked to Drew to get a closer look.
"It's...a Shiny Stone." Drew said.
"Those are really hard to come by." Paul said.
"What is it used for?" Dawn asked.
"It's used to evolve Roselia into Roserade." Drew said. "But...how? How did she find one?"
"Ask her in your next letter." Gary said. "For now, I think you have a Pokémon to evolve."
Drew stood up and took out his Pokéball. He tossed it in the air. The Thorn Pokémon materialized on the grass.
"I can't believe she found one...for me." Drew said. "It's an extremely rare stone and yet...she gave this one to me." He gently took off the lid of the box and placed it on the beach lounge.
"May knows how much you wanted one and I don't think that she has a Pokémon that requires a Shiny Stone to evolve." Misty said.
Drew took out the stone, putting the rest of the box on the lounge. "It's still really rare and valuable." Drew walked closer to Roselia. "Ready?"
"Rose~!" Roselia answered happily.
Drew placed the stone on the ground and Roselia tapped it with his hand. Roselia's entire body started glowing white along with the stone. In the light, Roselia was getting bigger and changing appearance.
The light and stone soon disappeared and revealed the Bouquet Pokémon. "Rose~!" It said as soon as the light disappeared.
"Yay! You have a Roserade now!" Dawn said happily.
"Yeah." Drew agreed. "Congratulations Roserade."
"Rose~!" Roserade said happily.
Drew returned Roserade to his Pokéball.
"Now, I said you guys could meet the genie and carpet, so let's go inside." Drew said.
"So, the first thing a Princess must always have is a smile on her face." May said.
They're in a carriage with two royal guards and they're riding through Petalburg City.
"A smile? But...when you weren't able to leave the castle, didn't you always have a frown?" Kiara asked.
"Okay then, I'll change the rule." May said. "A Princess must always have a smile on her face when around the people."
"Does that include school? You know...when I get to go to school."
"It should. There's been times when I had a frown when I was disguised as Daisy. But as a Princess, you should always have a smile."
"Hi, Princess May!"
May and Kiara both looked to the voice. They saw some children with their parents on the sidewalk. May smiled and waved at them.
"Hello to you too." May greeted.
May and Kiara looked at each other.
"See? Like that." May said. "Whenever I leave the castle, the people are always greeting me and waving at me, so of course I wave back."
"Okay then. I can do that." Kiara said.
"Hi, Princesses!"
"Nice to see you again!"
"Have a good day!"
May and Kiara both look and see children and their parents standing in front of the park, waving at them.
May smiled and waved. "Nice to see you again too."
Kiara followed May's example. She smiled and waved. "You all have a good day too."
"See? Now you're getting it." May said.
"Yeah. But this is a really easy start." Kiara said. "There will be harder things that Princesses do, right?"
May nodded. "There sure will be. But nothing that you can't handle."
"Guys, meet the genie." Drew said as he opened his bedroom door.
They all walked inside and the genie immediately appeared right next to them which startled the gang a bit. "Hello!" The genie greeted energetically. He teleported to the other side of them. "So glad to finally meet Drew's friends."
The gang didn't bother speaking. They just stared at the floating golden genie in awe.
"Well, let me introduce you." Drew said. He turned around to face the gang and he pointed to them when he said their name. "That's Dawn, Misty, Ash, Gary, and Paul."
"Nice to meet you." Gary finally said.
"And same to you all!" The genie said excitedly, extending his arms and wrapping them around the whole gang minus Drew. He lifted them off the ground.
"Getting...squished here." Misty said, running out of breath.
"Right. Sorry about that." The genie said, putting them back on the ground. They all breath heavily, regaining their breath.
Drew chuckled a little. "Genie could...kind of be too energetic for his own good."
"Yeah." Gary agreed.
"But anyways, meet the magic carpet." Drew said.
The carpet flew from the corner of the room to the gang.
"Wow…" Dawn breathed. "It's a beautiful color."
"Yeah. Part of me wonders if this carpet was made for May and I to use." Drew said as the carpet circled him. "It's pink and green which are our favorite colors."
"Where did you get it from?" Gary asked.
"I got it from…" Drew started. He moved his gaze to the genie. "You."
"Yes indeed!" The genie said excitedly.
"You had no idea at the time we met that I was in love with May?" Drew questioned.
"Nope. Not a clue. I just pulled out a carpet with colors that go well together."
"Well, I guess even your colors belong together." Dawn said, giggling.
"Yeah. Guess so." Drew said.
The magic carpet flew around the gang. They all watched it, smiling. The carpet then shook their hands with a tassel.
"It's really friendly." Paul said.
"And amazing! Can we fly on it? Pretty please." Dawn said.
"Alright then." Drew said. He walked to his bedroom window and opened it. The carpet flew outside and positioned itself just beneath the window. Drew looked at the gang. "Who's first?"
"So, a Princess must be kind not just to people, but also to Pokémon." May said.
"Right." Kiara said.
May noticed something. "Stop the carriage." The coachman stopped the carriage.
"Why are we stopping?" Kiara asked.
"Look over there." May pointed to the distance. Kiara followed May's gaze and saw a Pichu passed out in the grass.
They're at the entrance of Petalburg City. They all exit the carriage and walk towards the Pichu.
"Guards, stay." May said. The royal guards stopped walking.
"Why'd you make them stop?" Kiara asked.
"Because wild Pokémon could get scared when a lot of people approach them." May said.
"Oh...right. So how are we going to help it?"
Pichu opened her eyes because she heard someone walking her way. "Pichu!" She used a Thundershock from her position on the ground.
May and Kiara both dodged in time.
"What do we do, May?" Kiara asked.
"Stay calm." May said. "Slowly approach it and make it know that you aren't going to hurt it. I'll wait back here. Remember, be kind to all Pokémon."
"Okay then…" Kiara said unsure. She slowly started approaching Pichu again.
Pichu used another Thundershock. Kiara stepped to the side, dodging it. She continued walking to the Pichu.
"It's okay. I'm not going to hurt you." Kiara said.
"Pichu…" Pichu said weakly, but angrily.
"I just want to help you." Kiara said. "You can trust me."
"Pi...chu…" Pichu said, resting her head back down on the grass.
Kiara stopped at the Pichu, kneeled down, and lifted it up. She cradled it in her arms and stood up. May smiled from where she was.
Kiara stood up and walked back to May. "I knew you could do it, sis." May said.
"Thanks. Seems like you had more faith in me than I did."
"Let's head back to the castle."
They walked back to the carriage and headed back to the castle. They walked to the backyard.
"Wouldn't it be better to take her to the infirmary?" Kiara asked.
"Maybe that's the best thing to do, but…" May started. "A Princess that protects the people and Pokémon will know how to treat Pokémon herself."
"But I don't know about healing Pokémon."
"Or do you?" May questioned.
"Huh?"
"Healing is easy if you know the right move."
They stop walking in the middle of the grass field. May and Kiara's Pokémon run to them.
"So, do you know which one of our Pokémon will know a move that's used to heal wounds?" May asked.
"Hmm…" Kiara hummed, looking at all of the Pokémon. "Oh! My Aromatisse can use Heal Pulse!"
"Good. Now, heal Pichu." May said.
"Right." Kiara kneeled down and placed Pichu on the ground. Pichu's eyes are closed and her body is wounded. "Aromatisse, use Heal Pulse."
Aromatisse stepped forward and moved her hands in front of her, palms facing Pichu. A ball of pink energy formed in front of her hands. Aromatisse moved her hands, palms facing the sides, and the ball shattered into billions of pink sparkles in waves. The waves are moving outwards from Aromatisse's body, healing Pichu. Pichu's wounds start disappearing.
Aromatisse stopped using Heal Pulse after a minute. Pichu started opening her eyes.
"Pichu?" Pichu questioned once she saw everyone looking at her. She stood up.
"You're awake! How do you feel?" Kiara asked,
Pichu started running around Kiara happily. Kiara watched Pichu run and she smiled.
Kiara looked up at May. "Good job." May said. "You successfully showed this Pichu the kindness that's in a Princess."
Kiara beamed. She just got congratulated by her sister. She got congratulated by the future Queen of Hoenn. She looked back at Pichu who stopped running and looked at her.
"Pi, Pichu. Pi, pi!" Pichu said.
Kiara cocked her head in confusion. May just giggled. Kiara looked up at her sister.
"What's so funny?" Kiara asked,
"I'm sorry, it's just…" May started, ending her giggles. "Pichu loves the great amount of kindness you showed it that now it wants to be your Pokémon."
"Really? And...you understood her?"
"Oh. That's right…I never told you yet. I'm able to speak with Pokémon." May said. "What you hear as Pokémon talking, I actually hear as people talking."
"Really?" Kiara asked. May nodded. "That's cool." She looked at Pichu. "May's right? You want to be my Pokémon?"
"Pichu!" Pichu answered happily.
"Well then…" Kiara started.
"Levitate." May said, pointing her scepter to the castle. "Pokéball."
Inside the castle, an empty Pokéball from Kiara's room starts moving. It's outlined in pink and it starts floating in the air. It flies out the door and to the backyard.
Kiara grabs the floating Pokéball and looks at May. "I didn't know it could do that."
"Well, there's much more that I need to show you from it." May said.
Kiara looked at Pichu. "Welcome to the family." She said as she tapped the Pokéball on Pichu's head. Pichu disappeared into the Pokéball.
The Pokéball moved side-to-side inside of Kiara's hand. After the third shake, it clicked.
"Looks like I caught a Pichu!" Kiara said happily.
