Chapter 53: I Choose You

"Levitate." May said, holding her scepter to the sky.

The heart jewel glowed pink and May got outlined in pink. She slowly got lifted off of the ground and started floating higher in the air.

"Okay...nice and slow…" May said.

Kiara and Dahlia are watching May float in the air. They see her stop fifteen feet in the air.

May looks around her. She then looks down at Kiara and Dahlia. "I think I got it now!" She called down to them.

"Looking good May!" Dahlia called back to her.

The outline around May started blinking along with the heart jewel. "Whoa…" May said. She's stumbling in the air.

The outline disappears and May starts falling to the ground, shrieking. Kiara and Dahlia gasped.

May closed her eyes, bracing herself for the impact of the ground, but that impact never came. She felt herself land on something soft.

May opened her eyes and found herself sitting on her Rapidash. Rapidash had seen her start falling and started running to her, making it to May at the perfect time. May breathed a sigh of relief. May pet Rapidash's mane. "Perfect timing."

Rapidash neighed happily. Kiara and Dahlia ran to them.

"May, are you okay?" Kiara asked worriedly.

"Yeah, I'm okay." May said. "Thanks to Rapidash here." Rapidash neighed happily.

"That's good. Maybe you should practice that power in a safer location." Kiara said.

"Yeah...I guess so…" May agreed.

"I don't get it though." Dahlia said. "Levitation worked when you were battling the Queen of Mean."

Kiara looked down.

Dahlia and May looked at Kiara. "Oh. I'm so sorry for bringing it up." Dahlia said.

Kiara looked up at Dahlia. She gave a slight smile. "Oh. It's okay Dahlia. Don't worry about it."

"You're okay?" May asked.

Kiara looked at May. "Of course! Never better!" She answered. "Now where were we? You're going to practice more magic?"

"Umm...right..." May said. "And I think that because stopping Kiara from taking over Hoenn was a really important thing to do, that's why I controlled the power more easily."

"Makes sense." Dahlia said.

May faced forward and looked at Rapidash's mane. "Since I'm on Rapidash, I guess I'll work on Love Beam. And also, I should get better at riding her." She added, smiling nervously.

"Well, let's see what you got." Dahlia said.

"Alright then. Ready to go, Rapidash?" May asked.

Rapidash answered happily.

"Okay then. Let's do this." May said. She gently tapped her foot against Rapidash's right side.

Rapidash starts galloping at a steady pace like a jog.

May took a deep breath and grabbed hold of Rapidash's mane with her left hand while her right hand was holding her scepter.

They go towards May's other Pokémon. May looks at them while riding towards them. They see her.

"Are you guys ready?" May asked.

Her Espeon and Sylveon say their names in confirmation. They then run ahead of Rapidash. May had told them, before she started practicing, that she wanted them to help her practice.

May faced forward and saw Espeon in their path. Espeon launched Swift towards May.

May pointed her scepter towards the yellow stars flying to her. "Love Beam." A beam of pink light fired out of the heart jewel at the Swift, both attacks canceling each other out.

Rapidash continued jogging with May riding her. Kiara and Dahlia are in the middle of the backyard and they're watching May as she practices her magic.

Sylveon launched Swift at May and Rapidash. "Love Beam." May said. Her scepter launched another pink beam at the Swift. Both moves canceled each other out.

May smiled and brought her right hand to now hold Rapidash's mane, the scepter in between May's hand and Rapidash's mane. "This is fun." May said.

Rapidash neighed happily in agreement. She galloped over to Kiara and Dahlia, coming to a stop. Espeon and Sylveon ran to May.

"Thanks for your help." May said. Espeon and Sylveon said their names happily and then ran off to play with the other Pokémon.

"Your magic is amazing May." Dahlia said.

"Thanks." May said. She lifted her left leg over Rapidash while Rapidash bent her right leg. May stepped on the bottom of Rapidash's hoof, only to feel weak in her knees. She stumbled off of Rapidash, closing her eyes to feel impact of hitting the ground. But that impact never came.

May opened her eyes. She was floating. Rapidash is using Confusion on May to keep her from hitting the ground. May breathed a sigh of relief. She was gently lowered to the ground on her knees. Rapidash unbent her leg.

May smiled up at Rapidash. "Thanks. That was quick thinking."

"It sure was." Kiara said. "Are you okay?"

May looked up at Kiara and Dahlia. She gave a shy smile. "Yeah...my scepter just drained my energy again. No biggie."

"Well...at least you're not too hurt." Kiara said. She held out a hand to May.

May took Kiara's hand and stood up. May stumbled again and grabbed onto Rapidash, keeping her balance.

"I'm fine. Don't worry about me." May said.

Kiara and Dahlia sighed. "It will take a lot of practicing the scepter's powers before you don't lose as much energy." Dahlia said.

"I know, but it will be worth it when I can fully master it." May said.

"Hello girls."

May, Kiara, and Dahlia all looked at where they heard the voice. Dahlia immediately curtsied.

"Mom, did you need us for something?" May asked Caroline.

"No. Not really. There's just something I want to give you." Caroline said. She held out something to May.

May stepped forward and took what Caroline was holding. She held it up. It's a pink waistband with a little opening connected to it that looks like a slot to hold something. It has a darker pink buckle that May assumes is how it comes off or goes on.

May looked at her mom. "What's this for?"

"The buckle goes in the front." Caroline started. "You wear that around your waist everyday and that slot will hold your scepter. It's so you won't need to always carry it."

"Wow. Thanks mom." May said.

Caroline nodded. "I'll see you girls later." With that said, she started walking away.

"Let's see how it looks on you." Kiara said.

"Kay." May said. She wrapped the waistband around her waist, buckling it closed. She slipped the scepter in the slot on her right side. It was held up perfectly. The scepter was a little diagonal. May turned around. "How does it look?"

"It's perfect." Kiara said.

"Yeah. It looks great on you." Dahlia agreed.

"Thanks!" May said happily. "Now, I say I'm done with practicing right now. Let's go inside."

May, Kiara, and Dahlia are now in May's room and Kiara feels like bringing up the topic of Drew.

"Hey May? Do you think you'll ever see Drew again?"

"Why would you ask that?" May questioned. "O-of course...I'll see Drew again...I need to…" she muttered the last part to herself.

"Well, what I mean to ask is...when you see him again, what will happen?" Kiara asked. "You admit you love him to me and Dahlia, so will you two start dating when you go back to school?"

May blushed a little. "I-I want to…" She said. "But...being separated like this...might've made him change his mind about me…" she said sadly.

"Do you really think he'll meet someone else to love?" Dahlia questioned. "He told you he loves you in the most romantic way possible."

May's blush deepened and she smiled. "Yeah…you're right. It's not likely that he fell in love with someone else."

"May, how about you tell us what you hope your relationship will be if you can attend school senior year and see him again." Kiara said.

"Well, alright then." May said.

(This song is "I Choose" from The Willoughbys.)

"All of my life I thought I was right." May sang, looking up into space. "Looking for something new. Stuck in my ways like old-fashioned days. But all the roads led me to you."

May looked at Kiara and Dahlia. "The house that you live in don't make it a home. But feelin' lonely don't mean you're alone. People in life they will come and they'll leave. But if I had a choice, I know where I would be."

May got off of her bed and started walking towards the balcony. "Through the lows and the highs, I will stay by your side. There's no need for goodbyes. Now I'm seeing the light. When the sky turns to gray and there's nothing to say, at the end of the day," May placed her hands on the balcony railing. "I choose you."

She looked to the sky. Kiara and Dahlia started walking towards her. "Now I've found the strength." May continued. "To make a change. And look at the magic I've found. Don't matter the name, or where you came from. Cause no one has much figured out." Kiara and Dahlia stood on either side of May.

May looked down at the Pokémon playing in the grassy field. "The house that you live in don't make it a home. But feeling lonely don't mean you're alone. I finally found where I feel I belong. And I know you'll be there with wide open arms."

May took her hands off of the railing and held them to her chest, closing her eyes. "Through the lows and the highs I will stay by your side. There's no need for goodbyes now I'm seeing the light." She opened her eyes and stared up into space. "When the sky turns to gray and there's nothing to say, at the end of the day, I choose you."

May turned around and started walking back inside the room, followed by Kiara and Daisy who were smiling at the song about Drew. May walked back to her bed and she looked at the vase on her bedside table. She stared at the perfect thornless red rose that's inside of it. "I choose you." May sang as she reached out and took the rose out of the vase.

May sat down on her bed. She smelled the delightful aroma of the rose. "Through the lows and the highs I will stay by your side." May sang, staring down at the rose in between her fingers. "There's no need for goodbyes now I'm seeing the light. Through the lows and the highs I will stay by your side. There's no need for goodbyes now I'm seeing the light." May gently strokes the petals of the rose. "When the sky turns to gray and there's nothing to say, at the end of the day, I choose you." May stopped stroking the petals and she smelled it again, blushing slightly. "Oh, I choose you."

May looked up into space yet again. "I choose you." She sang, finishing the song.

Kiara and Dahlia now decided to sit down on May's bed. May put the rose back in its vase.

"I hope you two really can become a couple." Kiara said. "I can see that he really makes you happy."

May smiled shyly, blushing. "Yeah…I hope we can be a couple too…"
