Chapter 3: Emergency

Shadow groaned quietly, he pushed with all his might to lift the heavy rubble that was on top of him, he slowed his eyes as sand tumbled out of the rubble. It flipped and landed heavily, he felt something stinging his back he ignored it he wasn't the only one here.

"Sonic! Where are you!" Shadow shouted, holding his rib area.

"Help..."

Shadow stumbled over to the weak cry, eventually he caught a glimpse of colbalt blue. "Sonic!"

"Shads Ngh...I'm stuck..." sonic groaned.

Shadow gasped, sonics left leg and right arm were trapped under heavy pieces of metal. "Alright...we can do this."

Sonic glanced up at him hopefully, tears in his eyes.

Shadow bent his knees, grasped the heavy metal and lifted with his legs.

"AAAAAHHHHH!"

Shadow gritted his teeth and pushed the metal over, revealing the horrifying scenario.

A bone in sonics calf was pierced through the back of his leg, blood flowing like river, the sand was staining red, and the sand was starting to seep into the cut.

"Sonic don't look at it okay, I need to free your arm." Shadow murmured, concealing his horror.

Shadow lifted this piece of metal and flipped it, he was relieved that there was no open fracture just a break. The lack of conversation from sonic was bothering him, he glanced at the injured hedgehog. "You're going to be fine..."

Sonic was struggling to focus on shadow. "Are you telling me or asking me..." he mumbled. "Augh...the pain is getting worse..."

"I'm trying to contact a helicopter or anything to help you, you should try and stop the bleeding."

"I'm bleeding..." sonic murmured glancing down at his leg, immediately going silent.

"Sonic..."

"Y'know I've been in some shitty situations but this is by far the worst." Sonic murmured shakily.

"You're okay, you're not going to freak out? I won't judge you."

"I'm okay...so I just press on it?"

"Yeah..."

Sonic slowly put pressure on his open fracture, a jolt of pain was sent through his broken bone. "NNGG! AUGH!"

Shadow noticed sonic looked like he was about to pass out, he quickly sat beside him. "Lean on my shoulder, let me put pressure on it."

Sonic closed his eyes and rested his head on shadows shoulder, he was shaking.

Shadow pressed onto the injury, sonic screamed in pain and thrashed wildly.

"Sonic stop! I know you're in a lot of pain but you need to stay still." Shadow growled.

"It really hurts..." sonic groaned.

"I know help is on the way...hopefully..." Shadow mumbled. "I sent an emergency signal."

Sonic sighed. "I need to lay down..." he mumbled.

Shadow helped him lower his back to the ground. "You okay?"

"I'm feeling really faint...I'll be alright." Sonic mumbled.

Shadow sighed, Sonic was starting to loose responsiveness. "Stay with me sonic!"

Sonic mumbled something incomprehensible.

"You're okay..." shadow murmured. "Just breathe, okay? Breathe for me."

Sonic nodded, groaning. "Trying..."

Shadows frowned as blood continued to pour out of his leg, he pressed harder. Sonic moaned in pain. "I'm sorry Sonic..."

"It's...f-fine...whatever it takes..." he said weakly, the colour was draining from his face.

Shadow glanced at the sky. "Come on hurry up!" He growled.

Sonics eyes started to roll, shadow roughly smacked him in the face.

"No! You can't pass out on me!" Shadow growled.

Sonic moaned.

"Just look at me, can you do that?" Shadow asked.

Sonic forced his eyes open and glanced at shadow focusing on his face.

"We're going to be alright..." shadow murmured gazing into sonics emerald eyes.

Sonic grimaced as another jolt of pain was sent through his leg.

"Sonic I'm so so sorry..."

Sonic swallowed hard his ears folded back. "It's...fine."

"How's the arm?"

"It's...Ngh! Not the...agh! Problem...just...just...distract me..."

"Distract you?"

Sonic nodded.

"Geez Sonic I don't know..."

"Anything!" Sonic growled. "I'm bleeding out here and I don't want to think about it!"

"Why did you come with me?! If you hadn't come with me none of this would've happened!" Shadow yelled, though he wasn't angry.

"If you went alone you'd be in my position and no one would be here to help you!" Sonic growled.

It dawned on Shadow "You pushed me..."

"This place is gonna blow." Sonic shouted, glancing at Shadow.

"We'll have to jump off, sand can't hurt that much." Sonic said with a sheepish grin.

"No we're not doing that." Shadow growled, turning and running.

Sonic followed him, he glanced up and noticed the ceiling was falling down. "Shads the ceiling is going to collapse on us!"

"No it won't!" Shadow growled dodging a piece of metal falling from the ceiling. Shadow smirked as he saw the sky, he glanced over his shoulder. "See I told you we'd be fine!"

Sonics eyes widened as a large metal piece was about to fall onto shadow, he dove forward pushing shadow off of the ship, the metal crashing down onto himself.

Shadow could only watch as he was falling, sonics face tighten in anguish. He was falling alone while sonic was trapped.

"SONIC!"

"You shouldn't have done that..." Shadow murmured.

Sonic groaned. "If your going to press on my leg do it consistently please..." he said between breaths.

"Sorry..." Shadow mumbled, pressing into the wound, getting concerned of Sonic's rapid breathing. "Deep breaths..."

"...Can't..." Sonic gasped, closing his eyes.

Shadow sighed. "Why did we end up in a freaking desert?"

Sonic chuckled. "Bad luck..."

"Damn right." Shadow grumbled. "Shit you're getting really pale."

Sonic twitched an ear and managed a pained smile, he glanced up and saw a helicopter overhead.

"Thank Chaos!" Shadow sighed in relief, he glanced sown at sonic. "We made it."

Sonic smiled. "Can...I...sleep now?"

"No! Stay awake!" Shadow growled.

"I'm so tired..." Sonic mumbled.

"No you can't be tired!" Shadow growled.

The helicopter landed and medical workers ran out with stretchers, they quickly took care of sonic mumbling things like open tib fib and emergency. They quickly stabilized his broken bones and got him into the stretcher.

Shadow insisted he could walk on his own but they made sure he was checked over too. They got into the helicopter and shadow grimaced as gauze was pressed into his back, he glanced over at sonic who looked like he was barely holding on. "Come on sonic speak to me."

Sonic didn't reply he had his eyes closed and was breathing shallowly.

"Sonic?"

"Relax he just passed out we're almost at the hospital, I have to warn you though he is going to be rushed into an emergency surgery to fix the damage, I'll make sure you two share a room." A young cat said with a gentle smile.

"Thank you." Shadow mumbled, giving in to his own exhaustion.
