Chapter 5: The Plan
Sonic woke up to terrible nausea and he curled over and grasped the bucket beside him and heaved into it.
"Well good morning."
Sonic glared over at Shadow, and pushed himself up to a sitting position. "You can ask for a different room y'know."
"No it's fine everyone gets sick once in a while."
"Normally you aren't trapped in a hospital bed..." sonic muttered, scratching his his collarbone.
"Are you having an allergic reaction?"
"What? No! I just wanted to scratch like a normal person!" Sonic growled then grimaced. "Ugh...I'm fine Shads I just woke up I'm still groggy and I'm nauseous not the best combination. And in case you didn't know I'm not nearly as patient as I usually am when I'm tired."
"I get it your very irritable at the moment." Shadow said with a roll of his eyes.
Sonic let out an exasperated sigh. "I just want to go home where I can bend the rules a bit more."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Shadow grumbled.
"I could probably start moving a bit..."
"You broke your opposite arm and leg, just think about that for a second."
Sonic paused. "Oh crap."
"Yeah."
"I won't be able to move at all...I'll be wheelchair bound forever!"
"Not forever." Shadow grumbled. "It's not the worst thing in the world."
Sonic glared at him, his quills bristling.
"You could be dead, that airship crushed you. And you came out all right, all things considered." Shadow shrugged.
Sonic sighed and laid back down, he closed his eyes for a moment. "I need to get out of here."
"Tails said you hated hospitals, I didn't think it was this bad."
"Plenty of people have it way worse than I do, I don't deserve to be in here..." Sonic grumbled.
"Sonic you're hurt, really hurt. You had a bone sticking out of your leg I think that's deserving of being here." Shadow said sharply.
Sonic let out a groan. "Uggh I didn't need a reminder..."
"Nauseous. Right forgot about that." Shadow mumbled.
Sonic stared at the ceiling, then winced as a sudden surge of pain shot through his leg. "Urg! Wha-?"
Shadow glanced at him, noticing the way he glared at his leg. "Hurts?"
"Yeah...owww..." sonic moaned.
"Maybe your meds are wearing off I don't see all the extra stuff hooked up to you." Shadow said glancing at the iv stand.
Sonic sighed. "Well...it hurts..." He groaned.
"So..."
Sonic glanced over at him. "So?"
"What should we talk about?" Shadow asked.
"I didn't think you'd be one to start a conversation." Sonic snickered.
"Well I thought I'd start because you'll find something stupid to talk about." Shadow said with a roll of his eyes.
"Maybe." Sonic said with a laugh. "What time is it?"
"5 am."
Sonics eyes widened. "What? Why are you up so early?"
"I just wake up early, you get used to it when you go to work early." Shadow said with a shrug. "You must sleep in all the time."
"Yeah the wonderful luxury of not having a job but still getting paid to save the world." Sonic said with a smirk.
Both hedgehogs glanced at the door when they heard knocking, Rouge was peering in.
"Rouge what are you doing here?" Shadow asked.
"Can't I visit you two when I feel like it?" Rouge said with a smirk.
"Sure you can!" Sonic said with a smile.
"How are you feeling? You look..."
"Terrible I know. I'm alright, in a bit of pain but I'm okay." Sonic chuckled.
"When will you be able to get back to hero business?" Rouge asked.
Sonic adverted his gaze. "I will...eventually."
"His bone went through his leg Rouge-"
"Shadow stop!" Sonic snapped, hand over his mouth.
"Oh right." Shadow said apologetically.
Rouge shot shadow a questioning stare.
"He's nauseous." Shadow explained, frowning at the blue hedgehog.
Sonic glared at Shadow, leaning over the bucket. Shutting his eyes tightly he groaned. "This sucks..."
"Yeah, hang tight big blue." Rouge said with a small smile.
"Oh chaos..." sonic moaned, gagging.
"I can leave if you want..." rouge started.
"No..." Sonic replied hoarsely. "No you can stay just don't...Augh..." sonic broke of in a moan of pain. "Stupid leg...owww."
"I'm no doctor but I think your leg is more swollen..." Shadow murmured.
Sonic glanced at his elevated leg, he groaned. "AUGH! OWW!"
"Sonic just breathe, you're alright."
"Nooo! I am definitely not! AUGH! My leg is broken for chaos' sake!" Sonic cried.
"Rouge get someone! Anyone!" Shadow demanded.
The bat quickly left to get someone, Shadow got to his feet and slowly walked up to sonic grasping his hand. "Sonic, calm down."
Sonic glared at him, eyes wild in fear. "How?! It-AGH! Hurts!" He cried.
"Think about anything else, think about Tails what's he doing now?" Shadow asked.
"I-Ugh...I don't know he left when I-Ngh! Slept." Sonic growled.
"Get creative, what would he be doing about now normally?" Shadow asked gently squeezing sonics trembling hand.
"Aaaagggghhhhh...sleeping...like a normal person!" Sonic cried out.
"Okay...what does he do when he gets up?" Shadow asked, ignoring sonics anger.
"Augh...owww...owowowow..." Sonic moaned. "Oh chaos!" He groaned seconds before heaving into the bucket, left breathless.
Shadow sighed, and turned to head back to his bed when sonic grasped his hand. "Stay. Just...stay..." Sonic wheezed.
"Okay." Shadow murmured.
Sonic focussed on breathing, his leg was throbbing. "Ughnn..." he forced an eye open and managed a lopsided smile. "Thanks Shads..."
"No problem." Shadow said softly.
"I-I think I'm okay now..." sonic mumbled.
"I'll believe that when your leg is looked over." Shadow grumbled.
Rouge returned with Doctor Shea, Sonic forced a smile, and Shadow returned to his bed.
"I'm fine now." He said.
"Your fine when I say you are." Doctor Shea said flatly. "Now let me see this leg." She said, lowering his leg down.
Sonics leg just lightly brushed the bed and that set him over the edge, he let out a scream of pain.
Doctor Shea frowned, the swelling was severe. She elevated his leg again, and surrounded it with ice packs. "I'll put you on more morphine to help with the pain alright?"
"Ngh..."
"I'll keep it to a minimum, you don't have to prove anything, it's okay to accept the help."
"I can take it..."
"You sustained a major injury, no one will judge you for taking a stronger dose of morphine." Doctor Shea protested.
Sonic slowly shook his head.
"Fine, just that small dose then." Doctor Shea sighed. She gave him the small dose and left him alone.
"Geez Sonic I always knew you were stubborn but come on..." Rouge mumbled.
"I like to push through pain so I get used to it..."
"So you're a masochist." Shadow grumbled.
"I'm not!"
"Sure you're here saying that you like the pain."
"you think I like this!?" Sonic demanded, his quills rising defensively. "Chaos shadow I'm in so much pain but I made a promise to myself to never give in to anything."
"B-"
"Can we just let it go, I don't want to be asked over and over again how bad I feel. I saved you from wounding up like me so I think i did my job." Sonic mumbled tiredly.
"What's going on at G.U.N?" Shadow asked.
"Trying to keep the fact that you and Sonic are here a secret. The press is going to go crazy and then Eggman will know sand the next thing we know he'll bomb the hospital." Rouge rambled, sipping her coffee.
Sonic froze.
"Relax hun, that's not going to happen." Rouge said softly.
"No...that's exactly what's going to happen...I have to get out of here...to save everyone..." sonic mumbled.
"Sonic no, you can't leave." Shadow growled.
"Hey Rouge you think you can get me out of here, but to an undisclosed location." Sonic said with a grin.
Rouge smirked devilishly. "I can think of something."
"No. Rouge no." Shadow growled, turning to Sonic. "You can leave against medical advice."
"Actually I can, theirs a form for that." Sonic said with a smirk.
"But you physically can't." Shadow grumbled.
"I know, and you're going to help me with that. I'd use chaos control myself but...yeah I can't focus."
Shadow narrowed his eyes. "I hate you."
"I saved you first so why don't you help me out a bit." Sonic smirked.
"Okay so I figure we sign that form, make sure Sonic is seen in a wheelchair and then teleport away so that way the word will get out but no one will know where you went."
"Let's do it!" Sonic grinned.
