Chapter 7: Talk
Emerald eyes opened and glanced around the room, it was the evening. Had he really slept all day? He sat up and was instantly reminded of his injured body, he groaned and glanced at the side table and found a note.
Faker,
I have no idea when you'll wake up you could be a in a coma for all I know, anyways I should be near by. Your fox friend should be here by the time you wake and don't even think about moving by yourself! I left you pills there for you in case you're in pain.
Sonic glared at the bottle of pills, he wanted to tough it out but the relief was so tempting. Then a familiar scent reached his nose. Chilli? Sonic strained his ears to listen for voices, but everything was still muffled from the explosion. "Shadow?" He called out.
A face peered in the door, not the one he called.
"Hey Sonic!" Tails said with a warm smile. "How do you feel?"
"Okay? I think..." sonic mumbled, he was still groggy. "Where's Shads?"
"He passed out a while ago, he's injured too you know." Tails said softly, then his eyes caught sight of the shaved fur on his collarbone. "What's that?"
Sonic hand reflexively covered the rash that was starting to itch. "Shads didn't tell you?"
"All he said was you were really tired and not feeling that good."
Well he's not wrong..."it's a stress rash."
Tails blinked. "From the hospital huh? I know you hate them, but you needed that surgery." He sympathized.
Sonic was grateful that Tails didn't look into it that much but part of him knew that Tails should know that's it's more than that. "Yeah...listen bud...it's-"
"Ahh! The chilli is burning!" Tails screeched running to the kitchen.
Sonic sighed, rubbing his collarbone then mentally scolded himself. Stop it! You're not stressed, why are you scratching? Then a thought hit him. If this house got destroyed I wouldn't be able to get out...
Scratch.
I can't move...
Scratch.
I can't run...
Scratch scratch.
I can't-
"Sonic? Hey don't do that...what's wrong?"
"My mind is messing with me." Sonic sighed.
"Talk Sonic, explain. You can't stress yourself out like this, what makes you stressed? What should I look for?"
"I...I guess sitting still gives me more time to think...I prefer to run my thoughts away...and everything is catching up to me now...I hate it..."
"How long have you been running from your thoughts?" Tails asked tilting his head. "Please don't say the war..."
Sonic hung his head.
"Oh sonic..."
"I'm fine Tails, that time has passed." Sonic said with a smile.
Tails saw right through it. "That's why you stayed distant...you didn't want to talk."
Sonic nodded. "You guys shouldn't have to deal with my problems, it's my trauma and I should handle it." He muttered, scratching.
Tails didn't try to stop him. "What happened? I don't care how much you tell you can say as little or as much as you want but I want to help you."
"Their was illusions, torture, drowning, being starved...can that be all..." sonic mumbled, scratching more frantically.
Tails sighed. "Sonic you don't have to say more but I think that you should..."
"You think I enjoy talking about how I begged for my life nearly everyday, screaming each time I broke a bone, trying to come up for air while being chained to the bottom of a pool, living in illusions not knowing what was real?! I suffered a lot Tails, in more ways than you can imagine...I've watched everyone I loved die numerous times and each time I was questioning whether it was real or fake, all the feelings were there. Each day I was being torn apart and put back together again, i don't want to re live that! So forgive me if I don't want to talk."
Tails was speechless, tears forming in his eyes, his lip trembled. He stumbled up to sonic and hugged him tightly, not caring about his injuries.
Sonic let his tears fall, hugging Tails just as tight. He grasped Tails' thick fur tightly, and nuzzled his head in the crook of his neck. "Why would I want to talk about the past when I'm safe here with you?" His voice trembled.
"I love you Sonic..." Tails murmured. "I know I'll never understand what you went through, no one will...but I want to try. It will get easier to talk about and one day you'll be able to joke about it."
"That will be some serious twisted humour bro." Sonic said with a small smile.
"Like everything you say isn't a little twisted." Tails said playfully ruffling his quills.
Sonic chuckled. "I guess so...can we eat some chilli? I'm actually kinda hungry."
Tails eyes brightened. "That's great! I didn't think you would be up to eat yet but you're full of surprises."
Sonic grinned. "Oh yeah I am!"
"Hey, Sonic?"
"Yeah?"
"Will I need to cover that rash of yours so you won't scratch it?" Tails asked.
"I'll get my stress under control." Sonic said quietly.
"So are we eating in here or am I gonna move you?" Tails asked.
"Depends, can you move me without hurting me?" Sonic said with a cheeky smile.
"I think so?"
"Just don't let my leg touch anything, and ignore me if I sound in pain I will be for a while anyway." Sonic mumbled.
"Sonic I don't want to hurt you..."
"Don't worry about it bud." Sonic said softly.
Tails frowned and scooped sonic up from under the knees and his back, he saw Sonic's face contorted in pain.
Sonic tried his best to smile but all his nerves felt like they were on fire, a whine escaped from his lips.
Tails frowned, he tried to walk faster, being careful not to make any jolting movements. He set sonic down on the couch, Shadow was laying in the chair near he looked like he just woke up. Tails saw Shadow quickly grab a pillow and slid it under Sonic's leg as Tails set him down.
It took a few minutes for the pain to lessen enough for sonic to talk. "T-thanks."
"You need anything? Morphine?" Tails asked.
"Ngh...no I can deal with the pain."
"I know you can but you don't have to theirs a reason medicine is a thing." Tails said with a small smile. "It'll make the pain a lot more bearable."
"Ngh...fine..." Sonic grumbled, letting his head fall back. "Augh..."
"I guess we should move you as few times as possible in a day." Shadow mumbled.
"I'm Ngh...Al-Ngh!" Sonic moaned.
"You're not alright, you're in pain. You'll feel so much better once you take that morphine." Shadow mumbled.
"I know..."
Tails returned with a glass of water and morphine, Sonic took a pill and chugged the glass of water.
"You want chilli?" Tails asked.
"Give me a bit bud..." sonic mumbled, his eyes tightly shut.
"I'll have some Tails." Shadow said softly.
Tails nodded.
"Give the medicine a few minutes to set in." Shadow said gently.
Sonic groaned in pain. "I think I'm gonna be sick..."
"Sonic you need to keep that medicine down if you want it to work." Shadow grumbled.
"If this medicine would do its job and kick in I wouldn't be in this predicament." Sonic growled, clutching his bruised stomach with one hand.
"Just try to keep it down."
"Talking isn't helping Shads." Sonic growled.
"Right I'll be quiet." Shadow murmured.
Sonics ears flattened as his nausea worsened, he covered his mouth as he gagged.
"Do you need a bucket?" Shadow asked.
Sonic shook his head. "Don't need it cause I'm not gonna be sick." He grumbled.
Shadow couldn't help but smile at his stubbornness. "You really are something sonic."
Sonic groaned and closed his eyes.
Tails walked in with the chilli, handing a bowl to Shadow, he causing sight of Sonic glaring at the food. "What?" Tails said with a laugh.
"Fakers not feeling well and it's probably torture to watch us eat." Shadow smirked.
Sonic narrowed his eyes.
"We can eat in the other room-"
"No it's fine." Sonic grumbled. "I think I'm feeling a bit better..."
"You sure?" Tails asked skeptically.
Sonic closed his eyes. "Don't make me second guess myself..." he mumbled with a yawn.
"Tired?"
"I just woke up..." Sonic grumbled.
"You can still be tired, you're body is trying to heal." Tails shrugged.
"I wish I would heal faster." Sonic groaned.
"It takes time." Tails said gently.
Sonic sighed. "Yeah it sure does."
