Chapter 8: Relaxing

Sonics mood improved drastically over a few minutes, he was sitting up his leg elevated on the coffee table. He was having trouble eating with his non-dominant hand, But he couldn't complain he wasn't in terrible pain anymore.

"So who knows that I'm...out of action?" Sonic asked.

"Just us, Rouge and probably Eggman." Shadow replied.

"Should we tell Knux and Ames?" Sonic asked.

"They have the right to know..."

"Knux probably won't even care and Amy will freak." Sonic shrugged.

"They still should know." Shadow said, crossing his arms.

"Well I'm not making that call, I'm injured I can't think straight." Sonic said jokingly.

Shadow rolled his eyes while Tails chuckled.

"I won't put you through that, I'll call them." Tails said softly, leaving the room to make a call.

Sonic smiled. "Thanks bud."

"I'm guessing you're felling better." Shadow said with a small smirk. "I'm tempted to say I told you so."

"I knew the medicine would help, I just didn't want to take it." Sonic said with a roll of his eyes. "Anyways yes I'm glad I took it I feel a lot better."

"Thought you would." Shadow murmured.

Sonic heard Tails stammering on the phone.

"Yes he's still alive! He's fine, yes I know he's stupid! No you can't punch him!"

Shadow raised a brow. "Knuckles?"

Sonic nodded. "Always count on him to call me out in any mistake I make." He muttered, he noticed tails was having trouble explaining the situation. "Tails buddy, hand it over."

Tails sighed and handed him the phone.

"Yo Knux, stop giving Tails a hard time." Sonic said nonchalantly.

"You explain to me how you managed to mess yourself up so badly!" Knuckles growled.

"It's called I pushed Shadow out of the way and took most of the damage." Sonic grumbled. "And yeah I'm fine thanks for asking."

"If you're well enough to argue with me I assume you're fine." Knuckles replied.

"Fair enough."

"So how bad is it?"

"A broken arm, a broken leg some bruises." Sonic said glancing at his broken leg. "Had a surgery on it and they still need to cast it but I didn't want to put the people at the hospital in danger so we're at shadows secret hideout."

"By any chance would I be able to check on you maybe use my healing powers..." Knuckles murmured, almost sounding nervous.

"Shads is Knux able to come here?" Sonic asked turning his head.

Shadow nodded. "Just don't get discovered."

"He says yes just don't get caught on the way here, Tails will send you the location."

"Okay, I'll see you maybe tomorrow Sonic, don't hurt yourself again."

"I'll try not to." Sonic said with a laugh.

"Bye."

"Bye." Sonic said softly, handing the phone back to Tails. "When you call Amy I am not going to talk, just say I'm asleep. I feeling better but not good enough to deal with her nonsense."

"Got it."

"Since you're not in that much pain you think we can get a good look at your leg." Shadow suggested, he received a glare. "Are you afraid of what you'll see?"

"I'm afraid that my stomach will betray me if I don't like what I see." Sonic said bitterly.

"Well you don't have to look..."

"I'll look...I need to see." Sonic grumbled. "Yo Tails could ya get some ice..."

Shadow gave him a look.

"Maybe a bucket too..." he added, the glanced at shadow. "You're doubting me quite a bit."

"It's your body, you seem to get nauseous quite easily."

"For the record I'm not usually like this." Sonic grumbled.

Tails returned setting the ice on the table and placing the bucket on the floor next to sonic. He had the smallest hands so he gently unwrapped Sonic's leg, then frowned.

Shadow looked closer, it didn't look good. The stitches looked like they were done perfectly though a bit bloody but all the flesh was swollen and discoloured.

Sonic glanced at it with a detached expression. "Is...it supposed to look like that?"

"I'm sure it's fine...we moved you quite a bit today it's bound to be a bit irritated." Shadow reasoned.

Tails glanced at Sonic. "You okay?"

"Y-yeah...I'm sure it's fine..." sonic mumbled looking horrified.

"Y'know before when you were drugged up they were touching your leg a lot and you didn't even care, it looked similar then too." Shadow said gently.

"I don't remember that..."

"Yeah you were really out of it..."

Sonic frowned at his swollen leg. "You think the morphines strong enough that I can touch it..."

"Maybe."

Sonic knelt forward tensing as he felt the pressure build on his abdomen. He gently brushed his shin, the unaffected area then moved his hand to the back of his calf then pain spiked. It wasn't terrible but it definitely wasn't pleasant, he sat up again and closed his eyes. "Tails ice it after you wrap it..."

Tails nodded, quickly getting to work. He heard Sonic growl when he touched the stitches, he lifted his head at the sound.

"S-Sorry..." Sonic mumbled.

Shadow chuckled. "I didn't know you could make a noise like that."

Sonic rolled his eyes. "What you don't think that I can be threatening?"

"Not while you're like this." Shadow said smugly.

"Whatever..." Sonic grumbled, the pain quickly faded when Tails finished and ice was pressed to the injured side.

"Better?" Tails asked, noticing sonic sigh in relief.

Sonic nodded. "Much."

"So what should we talk about?" Tails asked.

"How are you doing Shads? So far all the focus is on my pain and suffering how's yours?" Sonic asked with a smirk.

"I'm fine Sonic, unlike you I only have a minor injury. It isn't even painful." Shadow said dryly.

"How long am I gonna stay here? Or how long until you kick me out?"

"Until we can move you without bringing you to tears." Shadow said sharply.

Sonic opened his mouth to protest then snapped it shut.

"If Sonic gets annoying I'll get him, we can get him to take some heavy painkillers and he shouldn't be a problem." Tails said with a wink at shadow.

Shadow smirked at that while Sonic glared at his brother.

The three talked for a few hours though Tails noticed how Sonic grew quieter as time went on and recognized the first signs of tiredness.

"Sleepy sonic?" Tails asked amused as the hedgehogs head dipped with exhaustion.

"Huh-wha?"

"You should sleep, it must be exhausting trying to heal from that injury." Tails said softly.

"Yeah...Being this handsome is tiring." Sonic said with a lopsided grin.

"Okay...time to lift you." Tails said, kneeling down to lift him.

Sonic sighed, leaned into Tails chest and wrapped his good arm around his neck. He could hardly feel anything when tails gently set him on the bed. "Thanks...buddy..."

"Goodnight Sonic." Tails said with a warm smile.

This is a non eventful chapter hopefully the next one will be better, I'm writing these chapters as I go, maybe I'll revamp this story when I'm finished and make small tweaks. Until then leave a review and I hope you enjoy:)
