Epitaph (for two Aliens)

The marker stone bore several strange... words?

On a metal disc. Likely a Greeting - from the Aliens.

The disc was mounted at the bottom of the marker,

below a simple prayer composed by the town mayor.

Local townspeople had gathered around, to say a quick

'Good-Bye'... To the odd Visitors... Whoever 'They' were.

#

"My humble and loyal brethren... We are gathered here this day,

to bid a sad farewell... and God Speed... To the two Visitors.

We never got to know them... Perhaps one far off and

brighter, happier day... We shall know all their kind?"

The local mayor/magistrate then read the prayer,

quickly engraved by a talented local artist, onto

the gravestone of the distant, deceased... Voyagers:

"Here lies two very brave souls... Who came from the Stars.

To the Stars, and to the Creator, may their spirits return!"

#

After the brief ceremony, the local area marshal approached

the humble magistrate/mayor of the small, friendly township.

"Mayor... Who do you think they were... Where they might

have come from? Not from our solar system, for sure..."

The mayor looked down, then to the greenish sunset horizon, and replied:

"I don't know, nor can I hazard a guess... They were so different - from us.

Maybe one day, our brightest minds can translate this metal disc the male

handed to me as he died. Sadly, the female died in the crash of their ship.

Our good friend, the town doctor, suspects that the female was with child..."

The magistrate looked at the bright, shiny disc... with its strange symbols...

now mounted at the bottom of the memorial marker, that read (in New English):

"We come in Peace..."

The townsfolk quickly then departed... Heading back to work or to home, all of their

eight spider-like arms & legs carrying them each to wherever they needed to be.
