Hello, everyone! Okay, so to those who followed my LOTR stories, go ahead and kill me. I'm sorry I never continued it. I just got really stuck on how to continue the story, especially now that Smaug had joined. I was really scared to write him. I also was thinking of two routes of going with him. As such, I continued to postpone it, until it basically was abandoned. I do want to return to it but my fears of it still get to me, plus I'm trying to figure how it should progress. Whenever I do return to it, I think I will stray from movie script, which is what I had been sort of doing the moment I entered The Hobbit storyline.
Now for this story, this part is ripped from chapter 18 of my own LOTR story "Regaining the Past." I kept the title, but this is now a "What if Dinenloth chose Haldir?" I really was torn between Glorfindel and Haldir. The moment I had written her with Glorfindel, I wept and felt awful for not picking Haldir. Even now, I feel terrible and want to rewrite the entire story for a Dinenloth/Haldir! WHY DID I HAVE TO FALL IN LOVE WITH THESE TWO LOVELY MEN AND CREATE A LOVE TRIANGLE!? WHY!? Anyways, this story is to, hopefully, get that feeling out of my system...unless I feel deeply convinced Haldir is the one, but this won't be main focus of the story anyways so not thaaat important...yeah (*cries* Haldir!).
To those who are new to my LOTR stories, please read "Silent Flower of Greenwood" and then up to chap 18 of "Regaining the Past" before reading this little story, if you wish to understand what is going on here.
Enjoy this short story and please tell me your thoughts on it!
Dinenloth was between Galadriel and Celeborn as they walked through Caras Galadhon. With one problem solved it was time to focus on another: love. The three spoke on this subject and Dinenloth was able to see clearer whom her heart had chosen. She thanked them for their words and guidance and went to look deeper upon the matter.
The spot she chose was beside the river that coursed through Lothlorien. Fingers entered the cold water as images of Haldir and Glorfindel played before her. She reminisced every moment she had with them and found herself comparing them to the sun and moon. Each so bright and carrying a warmth of their own. Both of the men were so important to her as they had further healed her heart and helped her open herself up toward others.
Haldir was like the moon. His light was not too immense yet held a power of his own. Like the moon's light, he always caressed her gently. The warmth he exuded was never too much for her, leaving her feeling at peace and longing for it whenever he was gone. He would often go out of his way simply to see her laugh and smile. Whenever she was with him, they managed to find ways to tease each other or wind up in some game he spontaneously created. Just as staring at the stars and moon made her heart light and full of joy, his presence left her with the same sensation.
Glorfindel was as the sun. He shone brightly with great power yet always kept it under control. His warmth often left her feeling like a cat wanting to bask and sleep in the sunlight. He had been a solid figure in her life, someone who had helped build her up and taught her it was alright to trust in others. Never once had he failed her. He was always patient with her, waiting for her to come to him in her own time. His presence always left her feeling well protected.
Standing from her spot, she wandered to another location, all the time pondering about the two men. She eventually meandered into a field of violet flowers that seemed to glow from the lovely moonlight. Her gaze swept across the field before lifting upward at the bright full moon. A smile arose on her face. She walked into the midst of the field, never once letting her gaze leave the moon that always left her joyous yet mystified by its presence. Feeling so joyful and suddenly energetic, she began dancing amongst the flowers. As the flowers swayed about from her dancing, they released their pollen that was carried upward into the air by a gentle breeze. These pollen glowed softly in yellows and greens.
Watching from beside a tree was Haldir, mesmerized by the sight before him. To him it was as if the stars fell from the heavens to join in Dinenloth's dance. He dared not move nor make a sound. This was the first he had ever seen Dinenloth so joyous. She shone far brighter than ever before, which caused her to appear even lovelier in his eyes. He remained where he stood for as long as possible before his could contain his emotions no longer. He slowly walked into the open field and toward the center where the beautiful maiden now stood with her back toward him. Once he was within arms reach, he softly called out to her.
"Amariel."
Caught by surprise, she gasped and spun around to see Haldir before her. Her heart beat faster and her smile grew wider as she finally knew her answer.
"Haldir."
The two remained fixed upon each other, each soaking in the other's presence and memorizing this singular moment. It was Haldir who made the first movement, and, just as back in Rivendell, he kissed her. The only difference this time was that she reciprocated it. This caught him off guard for a few seconds before he pulled her flush against him to deepen the kiss. His heart brimmed in utter joy to finally know his love was returned. When he pulled back, he saw her eyes glisten with unshed tears of happiness. Neither of them had no need to say anything as they appeared to read each other's mind. The only words important words needed were spoken before they kissed again.
"Amin mela lle."
