Now back to the story!

Chapter 2: Safe and Sound

Blu landed down next to Alex a few seconds later, about to get Alex's attention until he noticed what the Scarlet was looking at and well it shocked Blu just as much.

"Is that…" Blu started, Alex cutting him off.

"Tomada? Yes." Alex answered. "Come on Blu, help me get him up."

"Wait Alex…" Blu stopping Alex with his wing before he could go any further. "Look, I want to believe it's Tomada too, but how could he have gotten this far and know where we live? In fact it could just be another falcon who looks like him." Blu pointed out.

"The same could be said of us Blu when we were taken from the jungle." Alex reminding Blu. "And you know I never forget a face, it's him." Alex taking Blu's wing off him as Alex picked up Tomada, the falcon of course heavier than the Scarlet so it was difficult for Alex, but he didn't give up.

"Okay, I believe you brother…" Blu going along with Alex as he could and took the falcon's other side. "We better hurry, it's getting dark and colder now and we can't fly and hold him, good thing it looks like we're not far from the house." Blu said as the two didn't waste any time and making sure they had a tight grip on the unconscious predatory bird, they started their walk back home.

Of course for a human, it would have taken only a few minutes, but for a couple of macaws carrying a larger bird, it took about an hour, maybe more for the two to make it. However made it they did, to the relieved faces of their family, but also just as surprised to see Tomada too.

"Is that…" Jewel started asking, just like Blu.

"Tomada, yes." Alex answered again. "He needs warmth and attention." Alex said as the two brought the falcon into the house, Linda very curious as to why her two boys would bring such a bird here, but she didn't question it and gently picked up Tomada.

"We better check for any injuries." Linda said to the nodding of Alex as Tomada was taken by Linda to the kitchen table where he was set down and Linda got a first aid kit.

Luckily as Linda checked the falcon, there wasn't too many injuries, a couple of bruises here and there, not that both Alex and Blu were surprised, they knew Tomada was tougher than he looked for a falcon. While Linda was busy with the falcon, Blu, Alex, and Jewel got some blankets and set aside a spot for Tomada on the couch next to the fireplace in the living room. And once Linda was done, she brought him over and started a fire, filling the room with cozy warmness as Tomada was wrapped up and set in a comfortable position.

By that time, it was getting dark, so after a quick dinner, it was time for some sleep as Alex stayed in the living room to watch over Tomada.

"You sure you don't want to leave him Alex?" Blu asked. "I'm sure he's fine where he is now."

"You go ahead Blu." Alex replied. "I'm going to stay here, just in case he wakes up . Still can't believe he's here, I thought I would never see him again."

"Yeah me too, but Alex… What if…" Blu began, Alex knowing exactly what Blu was going to say."

"It is him Blu, I know and feel it." Alex assured both Blu and himself. "And it's up to us to bring him back home where he belongs."

A couple of days later…

Tomada, his world all black and dark since he was unconscious, finally began to regain his senses as he tiredly reopened his eyes for who knows how long, first seeing the blurry orange and yellow glow that was the fire in the fireplace. Tomada felt weak as he struggled to move his head around, his head moving to see surroundings unfamiliar to him, all blurry until his eyes rested on a mass of red moving towards him. It started to become clearer as the mass got closer and eventually Tomada's eyes focused to see a familiar friendly face smiling down at him.

"Alex…" Tomada called out softly, a tear forming in his eye.

"Welcome back buddy." Alex smiled back. "Everyone, Tomada's awake!" Alex called out as Tomada tried getting up, but well he had some trouble since he was out of it for awhile.

"Easy buddy…" Alex told the falcon as the Scarlet helped him out. "How do you feel?"

"Very sore and exhausted, but lucky to be alive." Tomada answered. "How long was I out for?"

"Since Blu and I found you, a couple of days, we brought you to Linda's house and fixed you up, kept you warm." Alex answered. "What happened Tomada, how did you end up in Moose Lake?"

"I promise I'll explain everything later, it's a long story, I'm just glad to see you again." Tomada expressing his happiness.

"You too buddy and don't worry, you don't have to say anything right now if you don't want to, just worry about recovering and getting back to your strong self." Alex advised as the rest of the family arrived, just as happy to see Tomada awake.

"Uncle Tomada!" Bia, Carla, and Tiago yelled, the three young teens launching themselves at Tomada, who groaned a little and felt a little pain, but it was worth it as they hugged onto him, the falcon hugging back with one of his large wings.

"Alright you three, not so hard, Tomada just got up." Jewel told her kids as the three got off the falcon.

"Welcome back Uncle Tomada." Carla said first.

"We missed you." Bia expressed next.

"And I missed you three too, happy to see you three and grown up a lot since I last remember." Tomada chuckled and then gave a little cough.

"It's nice to see you Tomada, when Blu and Alex brought you here, I was worried you wouldn't wake up." Jewel admitted.

"Yeah and also…" Blu feeling a little ashamed to admit this… "I didn't think it was you at first, I'm sorry I didn't have the same faith as Alex did."

"I understand, I know it's hard to believe, I'm not so sure I believe it myself." Tomada revealed as he felt his throat was very dry, his voice all raspy. "Could I have some water, I'm super thirsty."

"Oh, of course, I'll grab some food too buddy, I'm sure you must be starving too." Alex said as Tomada did feel his stomach rumble.

It has been awhile since the falcon ate something, it being hard since it was the colder months now, Tomada remembering only the occasional nut and well sometimes an unlucky mouse… Since Tomada gave up eating fresh meat since he met a certain someone, he has switched his diet, but it became a matter of survival when there was nothing else available to eat. Tomada shivered at those few tough times, trying not too hard to think about it. Alex came back with Linda, who was carrying a tray with some fruit and a big cup of water, setting it down on the table in front of the couch.

"It's good to see my boys' friend awake." Linda smiled as he went to pick up Tomada, but that woke up another memory in Tomada as he was a bit scared… Paart of the reason he was in Moose Lake was because he got birdnapped and was rather scared of humans now, despite having met Linda once or twice before in the Amazon when she came to visit Blu and Alex.

"It's okay Tomada, she's just bringing you to the table." Alex calmed his friend down seeing his hesitation as Tomada relaxed, Linda gently taking hold of Tomada and putting him down to his meal, where Tomada ate, messily, but no one could blame him as he was rather hungry.

As Tomada finished the meal, he was feeling a lot better, feeling some of his strength come back to him, but it would still take some time until he was back to normal. The day passed by, with Tomada resting mostly while the rest of the family gave him company until night began to fall once more, this time with Tomada being under a roof where it was warm inside. As the family was about to head off to sleep, Alex saw Tomada standing by a window, looking up at the bright moon, the Scarlet heading off to his friend.

"Can't sleep?" Alex asked as Tomada turned around to see Alex come next to him.

"I think I slept long enough." Tomada joked, but then dropped his smile. "Listen Alex… I want to apologize for leaving…"

"You don't have to be sorry for anything buddy, we'll are so glad you're back safe and sound." Alex smiled.

"Thanks…" Tomada smiled back. "So… How's my family?

"They miss you a lot, Bobbie and Junior however are growing up to be great kids to young adults. And Sorrel…"

"She must hate me…" Tomada interrupted. "She probably found someone else to love…"

"No, quite the opposite in fact, let me tell you buddy, while most of us gave up hope that you would return, I saw her every night just stay out of the nest for hours, looking up into the sky, waiting for you to come back."

"Really?" Tomada shocked as Alex nodded his head. "Wow… But even still… I don't know if I can go back and face her…"

"You will buddy, because after our vacation here, we'll bringing you back home where you belong." Alex putting a wing on his friend's shoulder. "You helped bring me back home, now it's time for me to do the same for you."
