Chapter 2
1991
Happy age 40
Bramty age 6
Happy sighed to himself as he pulled up out front of the park with Bramty sitting in front of him on his bike. She wasn't tall enough to sit behind him yet and from one look at her right now he knew one day she'd be riding a motorcycle whether or not he was still around. The natural ease she felt on the ride here was a dead give away.
He'd gone over to her house for breakfast today, luckily, because she'd admitted to him that today was her 6th birthday. And he'd be damned if she sat in that house all day alone singing Big Sean and listening to her mother fuck some guy in the room next to hers as she coloured.
"I like the park" Bramty whispered as if it were a secret and he supposed that it probably was since her mother only really let her hang out at home or at the 'club' wherever that was. Happy let her grab his hand as she led him over to a bench that was empty and she eyed the other kids playing.
"What are you waiting for? Go play" he chuckled and she crawled into his lap when he sat down on the bench. Both of them ignoring the looks from parents surrounding them at the park with their own kids. The looks weren't new to him but they were definitely new at a fucking park!
"Do you think they'll play with me?"
Happy didn't know what the right thing here to say was, he didn't know how to talk to a 6 year old. Then he remembered that she didn't need to be talked to like a 6 year old because she understood more than a 6 year old should.
"You need to choose who matters to you. Choose people who's opinions and actions you care about and then you let everyone else's looks or words roll off your back" He told her
"So, you only care about the opinions of people who matter to you?" she clarified and he nodded watching as her little face frowned in thought. He chuckled, she made that face when she was thinking about something and he knew she'd respond once she'd thought it through. "That's smart!" she agreed
"I know baby girl"
"Thanks Hap" she grinned jumping down and running off to the playground, she didn't even have time to consider approaching someone because it was as if all the kids turned and walked over to her as soon as they spotted her. Happy shook his head, he knew she'd have no trouble making friends if she kept going like that.
She was already off running and playing.
Happy let her play for an hour and somehow he didn't find himself bored of watching her play with the other kids. Which was something that surprised him.
"Bramty!" he called and all the kids looked up at him. "C'mere" he beckoned and he smiled when she didn't hesitate like he'd seen Opie's kids do, they threw tantrums and ran off but Bramty didn't even spare the other kids a second glance.
"We're leaving" she stated and he nodded, he'd wondered briefly if her compliance and smiling face was because she didn't know they were going to leave but apparently she'd known and that made him proud.
Proud that she listened to him and wasn't petty like the other children currently throwing tantrums and crying because she was leaving the park. It made him want to scoff at the rich parents who thought they were better than him with their spoilt brat kids.
Happy purposefully chose not to think about the fact he'd just caught himself thinking about Bramty as his kid. That was something for another day! One in the very distant future for sure.
As they mounted his bike he decided they'd make a stop for ice-cream first, he wasn't much of a fan of cake. And he couldn't imagine Bramty getting upset over having ice-cream instead of cake when just this morning she hadn't known what a birthday party was or that people celebrated birthday's.
Jax finally got his kid home from the hospital but he and Tara are on a 'break' since the scare they had with Abel's heart a few months back. Apparently, Tara, Jaxs Old Lady had the guy sleeping at his parents house cause she was 'fed up' - whatever that means.
Tig, being the sex addict he is decided the best way to help Jax get over this shit with Tara was to have a day at the strip club. A strip club that was a little different to the others in the sense lap dances weren't the only thing you could get here.
As they dismounted their bikes Happy was reminded of the last time he was here.
It had been a few weeks since Bramty's 6th birthday and he'd made sure he showed up once everyday at her house no matter what the time was.
His time in Charming was limited and he didn't want to think too much on what would happen to her when he went back to Tacoma.
"C'mon man" Tig ushered them all inside the strip club that specialised in kinks and breaking the no touching rule. Naturally Tig's favourite strip club.
It didn't take long for them to be seated, or to be surrounded in strippers and beers. A raven haired woman sat herself on his lap licking his neck and biting his ear, "Do you want me to get sweet cheeks?"
Happy pushed her back and she fell onto the floor with a thud, everyone looking between the two. The fuck? And then it hit him, sweet cheeks... it's what she called her daughter... Bramty.
The little bitch smirked at him when she saw that he'd realised what she'd meant and who she was. She stood up and got back on his lap. "What's your real name?" He asked glaring at her and she gulped nervously.
"Katherine"
"You bring her here?" He asked and Katherine hesitated which was enough of a confirmation for him.
Katherine rolled her blue eyes "Sounding a bit possessive" he bit his tongue after her comment. "It's what happens and we need to survive on our own" she pouted as if he should be feeling bad for her right now.
Katherine nodded and gestured over his head to someone before walking away. Happy was confused and glad the bitch had gone until Bramty walked over to their table with a beer and a sparkly pink kid version of the stripper outfit the other whores were wearing.
"The fuck!" He hissed frowning at the glittery bra and panties she was wearing with small pinups. It was down right wrong and disgusting what they were making this kid do.
Tig snorted, "Oh wow! what is this?" He eyed the kid and while they all knew Tig didn't fuck kids the man was fucked up in the head enough to find this funny and have no problems with it when it was someone he didn't know.
"Beer" Bramty said stopping in front of him and handing him an open beer. Her eyes flicking from him over his shoulder and Happy followed her sight to where her mom was standing with a sleezy manager looking guy watching.
"What the fuck dude!" Jax protested seeing the kid, just as disgusted at someone having a kid in here dressed like that especially since he had his own boy at home a little younger than Bramty.
Happy shook his head trying not to look pissed off before he spoke to her because he knew this wasn't her fault. "Bramty" she frowned when he said her name and for a minute he wondered why before he realised that she was sticking to her word and pretending not to know him. That made him smile a little. "Bramty, you have proper clothes here right?"
She shook her head and he realised it was the first time he'd seen her with her hair down, he didn't like it as much, it made her look older than she is. "Becka told me this morning that I had to wear this"
Happy sighed, he didn't know who Becka was specifically, but he imagined she was one of the whores Bramty lived with. Happy frowned and snatched up Jax's shirt that was sitting on the table from where his stripper had taken it off of him. Happy handed her the shirt and she looked at him blankly. "Put it on" he instructed and she nodded pulling on Jax's shirt with a giggle when it completely swamped her.
"Hap, It's too big" she giggled looking up at him and shaking her arms which weren't even half way through Jax's sleeves.
Happy ignored his brothers weird looks, "Go home, okay?"
She looked up at him, her big emerald green eyes sparkling under the light as she frowned in confusion. "I can't" shaking her head she sighed sadly and glanced back in the direction of the guy he'd seen standing with her mom a minute ago.
Happy frowned deeper, he knew that ultimately her mom's instructions won out over his, even if the woman was a disguising bitch but he couldn't figure out why she wouldn't be able to walk home now like she didn't ever other night. "Why?"
He knew the look that crossed Bramty's face - it was an off limit topic. Happy knew his eyes had darkened to purely murderous with the realisation of her pretty much confirming his suspicions. "Bramty?" he prompted and she looked up at him with tears in her eyes that she quickly blinked back.
"I only have to stay for at least another hour and then I can go home" she told him and tried to walk past but he caught her around the stomach and picked her up and set her down again so she was standing in front of him now.
"Go and I'll talk to your mom for you. You go home, Kid and don't worry about tonight okay?" he gently squeezed her arm and she nodded before launching herself into his chest and wrapping her little arms around his neck.
Happy kept his face blank, ignoring Jax and Tig as he hugged her back.
"Thank you" she whispered as she pulled away and Happy nodded watching her look back at her mother before quickly walking out the front door of the strip club almost looking nervous as she made sure her mom hadn't seen her leave.
"Who the fuck's kid was that?" Jax asked
Happy sighed, "You remember at the end of last year when I did that job for the Irish?" Jax and Tig nodded with wide eyes as they realised who Bramty was now.
Jax glared at him and Happy raised a brow at the VP as he turned to him "Stay the fuck away from that kid. Everyone leaves her and her mom alone. Nobody even goes to the same shopping centre as them...that's an order brother"
He stared at Jax more than a little surprised the VP was willing to let this go so easily. Jax was the one always up Clay's ass about not being cold hearted and being more of a family club.
Happy wanted to know what the fuck was up Jax's ass that he'd just let some mom pimp out her kid like that, but he didn't ask, he didn't say a word because he recognised the look on Jax's face.
The look that let them all know that they were talking to the VP not a brother or friend right now.

Happy sat outside across the road on his bike from Bramty's house, he knew he shouldn't be here; he should be following direct orders from his VP. He should be heading to Bakersfield to see his mom like he said he was.
Yet, here he was again, just like he had been for the past six month's he'd been staying in Charming. With a sigh he dismounted his bike and walked up the path to the porch knocking on the door. When it opened Bramty launched herself into his arms giggling when he swung her around in the air.
He really liked the little girl and he'd realised quickly that she wasn't a normal kid. She was really fucking smart and only just about to start kindergarten. He had googled what kids that age were supposed to do and the ability to fully read and write was not one of those things.
Neither was not blinking at murder and stabbing a man in his dick for hitting her... but he supposed it was thanks to the less than normal way she was being brought up.
Happy had always been a silent and stoic man, he wasn't much on talking when it wasn't needed. Silence was perfectly fine with him and Bramty was the same. There had been a few times he'd come to visit late at night and she'd asked him to talk to her so she could listen to his voice as she fell asleep. He probably should have been insulted since that same voice sent chills down grown ass men's spines, but if there was one person who wasn't going to be scared by something like that; it's Bramty.
"Come on Hap" she pulled him by the hand into the house and up the stairs, she'd told him before that she liked holding his hand in all honesty he didn't mind it either.
"What's going on baby girl?" he chuckled as her pig tails swished around with her rapid movements. She led him to the bed so he would sit down before she crawled under the bed and he watched as she pushed out a shoebox.
Bramty picked up the box grinning and crawling back up on the bed to sit on his lap as she opened it and showed him the box full of money in a mix of coins, 1 bills and 10 bills. Happy raised a brow looking back at her to explain.
"I saved up a whole fifty dollars" she whispered with wide eyes and he smiled at her excitement. "Can you take me to the movies. Me and you? before you go back to Tacoma?" his heart broke at her little pleading eyes looking up at him. She'd saved up all this money and wanted to use it to spend time with him and that broke his heart, especially since he knew she was sad about him not coming by for a few months at least.
"Yeah. Want to go now?"
"Yeah!" she nodded vigorously with the biggest smile he'd ever seen and he closed her box pushing it back under her bed before before scooping her up in his arms. "What about the money? I thought you said that we have to pay money to see the movies?"
"We do" he nodded dropping a kiss to her cheek as he carried her with her little arms wrapped around his neck. "But I want you to try and get 100" he told her watching as her eyes widened but held a sparkle she always got when there was a challenge involved.
Bramty smiled brightly and kissed his cheek as he set her down on his bike and strapped the helmet on her head, luckily her hair made it stay on a little better. "You hold on, okay?"
"Okay!" she bobbed her head up and down before reaching up and unhooking his sunglasses that were handing over his shirt and putting them on with a smile. "Do I look like a biker now?"
"The cutest biker I've ever seen"
Happy grinned when Bramty tucked herself into his side during the movie. He'd let her choose and had chuckled when she asked the pimple faced teen at the register a million questions about each movie so she could decide which one they should see.
It's her first time at the movies and he wanted her to watch whatever she wanted. Of course he had silently prayed that she didn't pick the barbie movie that the kid at the ticket booth told her she would like, though he had been prepared to simply hide at the back of the theatre.
To his surprise she had picked the horror shark movie and was now jumping a little every time there was a jump scare, but for some reason that seemed to be her favourite part.
Now she was tucked under his arm eating popcorn and every now and then feeding it to him with the chocolate's she'd insisted they put inside the popcorn bucket. "Hap" she whispered looking up at him, her little hand full of popcorn and waiting for him to open his mouth which he did with a chuckle.
The rest of the movie went the same and she was holding his hand as they walked out and threw the empty popcorn box in the bin. "Did you like the movie, baby girl?"
"I loved it!" she cheered grinning up at him "Thank you Happy"
"It's all good Bramty" he nodded and led her to the small photo booth, he wanted one of these with him when he goes off to Tacoma tomorrow. Bramty sat up on his lap looking at both of their reflections on the screen, a confused frown of concentration on her face when the first picture went off.
Happy laughed and quickly explained that it made pictures of them to keep when the timer went to 1 from 10. The next picture was taken right as her face lit up in something that could be described as pure joy when he said she could have a copy of the photos.
The third picture was of them both laughing but Bramty hadn't stayed still and the picture flashed right as her two pig tails swished across his face.
"I wanna to do a nice one!" she announced wrapping her arms around his neck and planting a kiss on his cheek right as the timer went off and their photos strips started printing.
Happy watched her jump up and crouch down trying to see through where the pictures would come out when they printed. Bramty grabbed them both when they slid out of the machine handing one to him and holding the other in her hands.
He grinned and slid the picture into his Kutte as they walked out of the theatre holding hands again. When they got back to her house he handed Bramty a burner phone to hide in her box and after explaining how to use it. He programmed his number, his Ma's number, the Tacoma Charters number and Kozik's number into the phone.
"Okay now tell me what I just said"
She smiled up at and held out her little hand reciting each one of his rules back to him. "Don't play on the phone because it's for emergencies. Call you first. If you don't answer and I need somebody then call Kozik and tell him that Happy Lowman gave me the number for emergencies and I need help. If neither of you answer then call the police. Only call the clubhouse if you ask me to and I can call your mommy if you tell me too"
"That's right baby girl"
