Chapter 15
Opie smirked when he spotted Bramty eyeing him from across the lot, he had just got a new tattoo of a huge fucking bear on his back and after washing it and taking the wrap off he was letting it breathe. Happy had given him a warning this morning that Bramty had a slight obsession with tattoo's and if you let her, she would sit for hours inspecting each and every one of them.
Her eyes had yet to stop following his every move and he couldn't help but laugh. The little girl had been here with them for just over 2 months now and she had settled in perfectly with their big, weird family.
"Opie?" he looked over his shoulder when he heard her voice and smiled at the little girl not much younger than his own kids.
"Yeah Bramty?"
Bramty smiled and walked closer eyeing his bare chest that also had tattoo's and he only barely managed not to laugh at the look of awe she had on her face. "You got a new tattoo" she said looking up at him and he nodded even though it wasn't a question.
"You like it?"
She grinned and nodded making her pigtails swish up and down and he chuckled. Opie watched her walk behind him and felt her little hand on his back but Bramty obviously already knew not to touch it - not surprisingly since her father was a tattoo artist.
Opie looked over his shoulder watching her move her face so it was only inches away from his back as she literally inspected the tattoo. "You want to get a tattoo when your old enough?" he asked
"Uh-huh" Bramty nodded still not looking away from the fresh ink, "You think I could have a turn? do you think my dad would let me?"
Opie frowned in confusion, "A turn doing what?"
"Tattooing" Bramty answered
He grinned, "I think you should ask anyway"
Bramty nodded in agreement, "Would you let me make a real tattoo on you?" she asked
"I don't know. Depends if your any good at it" Opie smiled and she walked back around to stand in front of him.
"I think my dad should do the outline in black and then I can colour it in" she looked up at him with those big green eyes sparkling in excitement. "What do you think?"
Opie couldn't help but grinning at her, "Have you ever seen someone get a tattoo?" Bramty nodded. "You'd have to practice first before you do anything on someone's skin otherwise the needles will make a bad tattoo"
Bramty nodded again frowning in thought, "Well maybe I can draw the picture and then my dad can do the ink?"
Opie nodded, that sounded much more likely then anyone letting her ink them up at her age. "Sounds like you'd have better luck convincing someone with that option then the first one"
Bramty giggled, "Can I help you?"
Opie frowned looking at the bike he was fixing then back at her more than a little surprised she wanted to help him fix his bike. Neither of his kids had any interest in bikes or basically anything club related. Opie smiled and nodded, "You know much about bikes? Hap let you help him?"
Bramty smiled at him and picked up the cloth he used to wipe his hands stuffing it in her back pocket so it was hanging out. "What are you doing?" he smiled as he watched her and she pointed over to one of the mechanics near by as explanation.
Opie laughed when he realised she was copying the mechanics who all had a rag hanging out their back pockets.
"Do I look like a mechanic?"
"You sure do. Much cuter than those guys too" that earnt him a giggle and a bright smile from the girl. "Right. You know what the names of the tools are?"
"Yeah. Some of them" Bramty nodded and they both got to work on his bike. Opie explained everything he was doing and why and she handed him the tools he needed only having to ask him a few questions before she understood.
He was more than surprised at how easily this all made sense to her and he was a little shocked that Bramty already knew most of the names of motorcycle parts.
"What the hell are you two doing?"
Opie and Bramty both looked up from the car engine to see Clay, Bobby and Tig were watching them both. Opie shrugged a little sheepishly. He had definitely gotten carried away with teaching and explaining everything about how cars and bikes worked but Bramty hadn't complained.
In fact, she had been practically giddy the more she learnt and understood. They'd both been here since 9 am and it was already 2 pm.
Bramty giggled waving at the men and smiling brightly, the little girl had on a white T-shirt that was now covered in black grease and motor oil. She even had a smudge of it on her forehead and on her cheek though Opie knew he didn't look any better.
The three men all chuckled a little seeing her as they looked between him and Bramty. "Having fun?" Clay asked
"I'm helping!" Bramty informed them happily as she nodded before looking up at Opie.
"She's fucking smart" Opie told him brothers who raised brows, "She's already figuring this shit out. It's crazy brother" he chuckled and shook his head more than a little amazed.
"Really?" Bobby asked like he didn't really believe it
Opie nodded, walking over to one of the bikes near where Clay was leaning against the wall and Bramty followed behind him. Opie of course already knew what was wrong with the bike from the diagnostics chart one of the mechanics had run on it earlier, but Bramty didn't know that.
Handing his brothers the chart Opie started on the bike and turned the clutch smirking at his brothers as they watched and heard the noise it made. When Opie turned the bike off Bramty frowned up at him, "It makes a clunking noise" she announced
"What does that mean?" he prompted grinning
Bramty frowned in that little face he'd seen her make every time she had to think something over and he waited patiently knowing she would speak once she decided what it meant. "It's okay sometimes" she said and he nodded as she continued, "But" Bramty smiled up at him triumphantly and he knew she had figured out the reason. "But, it could be the clutch adjustment that's dragging"
Opie turned to his shocked brothers who were all staring at the proudly beaming girl.
"Fuck how'd she know all that?" Tig raised his brows
Opie shrugged, "She already knew all the parts to bikes and cars when she came in here. Knew names of tools too but I only had to explain everything once and she just understood it" he smiled at Bramty who smiled proudly.
Bramty looked up at him and pointed to where he'd just wiped his hand on his face, "You have oil on your face now"
Opie laughed, "Kid your covered in the stuff" he informed her and she looked surprised before giggling and shrugging.
"Clay?" She turned to the president who nodded waiting for her to say something, "Did you see the bear Opie tattooed? It's so cool! Do you have tattoo's? can you show me?"
Clay grinned and chuckled, "I saw that this morning kiddo. Think your the only one around here who doesn't have a tattoo" Bramty sighed deeply like not having a tattoo physically pained her and the men all laughed.
Bramty walked up to Clay and held her arms up for the president to pick her up, which he did smirking at the little girl who took no time at all to warm up to them all. "I have an idea" she said softly to Clay, leaning closer to the man looking very much like she was up to no good.
"Yeah? and what's that idea?" Clay smirked
"I think. I can draw a tattoo and then my daddy can ink it on you" she told him and the group laughed again knowing there was no way she would be getting anyone to agree to that.
"I don't know kiddo, I think you should design your first tattoo for your dad" Clay smirked and Bramty's face lit up at the idea making them all smirk when she nodded eagerly.
None of them had any doubt Happy would be nagged about letting her design a tattoo for him for the foreseeable future because the man really hadn't been joking when he said his kid had a little obsession with tattoos.

Happy walked into the clubhouse setting his gun down on the table in front of Bramty. He could see on her face that she was bored and all of them had been busy today with club business.
His gun needed cleaned and he knew she knew how to do it. It probably wasn't the most appropriate thing for a kid her age to do, but then again Bramty never really did thigs kids her age should be doing anyway. Bramty was just as obsessed about cleaning as he is and it gave her something to do other than watch TV all day.
The clip was empty which meant she couldn't accidently shoot herself or anyone else and Happy knew Bramty liked thinking about things and having to dissemble a gun and clean it was something to put her little brain to work.
Happy walked over to the bar grabbing a beer as he sat down next to Piney as the others all filtered into the clubhouse.
"Uh, brother? yer know the little lassie 'as yer gun, right?" Chibs asked and Happy nodded at his brothers letting them all know she was fine.
Tig laughed loudly as he sat down across from a very concentrated Bramty who was carefully cleaning each part of Hap's gun. "What are you doing there kid?" Tig asked as all his brothers watched the girl clean the gun like she'd done it a thousand times before. Happy didn't seem fazed by it and so they figured maybe she had done this before.
"I'm cleaning daddy's gun for him" Bramty smiled up at Tig who nodded smirking over at Hap who was at the bar talking with Piney.
"Your dad teach you that?" Tig asked watching her start assembling the gun again.
Bramty nodded, "He said that if I know how to use a gun, I should know how to clean it" she stood holding the gun properly and walking back over to her father before handing it to him with the empty clip in her hands. "It doesn't have any more bullets, Daddy"
"Thanks baby girl" Happy kissed Bramty's forehead and the little girl surprised everyone by walking back over to Tig and climbing up in the SAA's lap.
Tig froze at first before shrugging and making conversation with the girl who was content talking about her fucking extensive knowledge of different types of guns. "...Daddy wont let me touch those ones though" Bramty shook her head sadly at Tig's question.
Tig raised a brow and chuckled, everyone else in the room had gone silent in shock as she spoke in detail about different types of guns she had learnt about. The fact that an AK had been something she wanted to try kind of amazed him. "I think that's smart. You're a bit too small for a big gun like that"
"I know" Bramty rolled her eyes and huffed making him laugh harder. "Can we have soda?" she asked
Tig shrugged, "Go ask one of the sweetbutt's to get you one" Bramty nodded jumping down off his lap and walking into the kitchen to do just that.
Not 5 minutes later Bramty scurried out of the kitchen like the place was on fire and over to Hap, climbing into his lap and tucking herself into his side. Tig frowned wondering if he should have gone to get her a soda when she walked out without one. He didn't like kids... Bramty being the exception and he didn't want to see the girl upset. Tig didn't even know his own daughters and so he didn't know if he'd done the right thing sending her to get the soda on her own or not.
Happy pulled Bramty up on his lap so he could see her, obviously sensing something was wrong. "What's wrong?" Happy asked and Bramty shrugged, tucking herself back into Happy's chest.
Happy frowned looking over at Tig who shrugged not knowing either.
"Baby girl" Happy growled in warning
"I don't like those girls" Bramty vehemently shook her head making her pig tails swish from side to side with her jerky movements. "They're like the women who lived with us and I don't like them Daddy"
Happy looked like someone had kicked him in the gut before nodding and letting Bramty hold onto him again.
Everyone in the room was quiet after that, they all knew the hell Happy would rain down on the sweetbutt's as soon as Bramty was out of the room. This was just the calm before the storm. Though none of them could blame the guy for being pissed at anyone who made his kid feel uncomfortable.
Somehow in the 2 months Bramty had been with them she'd wormed her little way into all of their hearts and there wasn't a biker in the room who didn't care about the girl. She had each of the men wrapped around her little fingers without even knowing it.
Those women weren't gonna blink unless Bramty tells them they can after what Happy was gonna do to them soon, that much Tig knew for sure.
The next morning at breakfast Bramty was served first by the sweetbutt's who scurried around the little girl to make sure she had everything she needed.
Tara frowned at seeing that, Jax had told her that Happy had nearly killed a few of the sweetbutt's for making his kid feel uncomfortable yesterday. She knew Happy probably thought he was helping but this wasn't an environment for a child like Bramty.
Even Tara got uncomfortable in the presence of the whores sometimes and she wasn't surprised that a small child who'd been abused would feel scared. The near nakedness and sex that was constantly and blatantly flaunted around the clubhouse wasn't something a child needed to be around. Let alone one who'd been raped and molested for years.
Tara shook her head sadly wondering if she would be able to convince Happy to do the right thing by his daughter. Bramty needed stability, she needed therapy, and none of that was something she would get here around a bunch of men who don't know the first thing about children.
"Let me drive her to school today. I have to take Abel anyway" Tara offered walking up to Happy who was sitting next to Chibs who was holding Bramty.
"I don't wanna ter go ter yer stupid bloody 'chool" Bramty said in her best imitation of Chibs accent.
Chibs laughed loudly poking his fingers into Bramty's sides and tickling her as she squirmed and giggled loudly on his lap. "Yer think I sound like t'at little lassie?" the Scotsman scoffed and Bramty giggled louder at the relentless tickling. "yer don't 'ear me saying bloody like some British ponce, luvy"
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" Bramty relented giggling as Chibs finally stopped tickling her, making both the outlaw biker and the little girl grin.
Happy chuckled from his seat beside the two and shook his head at both of them before he picked Bramty up and setting her on his own lap. "Tara's taking you to school today. Be nice" Happy warned Bramty.
Bramty nodded hugging and kissing Happy before walking around the clubhouse giving each of the patched members a hug and a kiss goodbye. Tara smiled as she watched the little girl surprise Donna with a hug and kiss before picking up her school bag and walking back over where Tara was waiting.
"I'm ready to go Tara" Bramty said smiling
Tara nodded leading the way to her car with Abel in tow who only bothered giving Jax a hug. Abel was in kindergarten and Bramty is in 4th grade but they both go to the same school and Tara figured as long as Bramty was staying here at the clubhouse it would either be her or Donna taking the girl to school.
Since Donna's oldest daughter is 13 and in 7th grade at the middle school but her son is 12 in 6th grade still going to the same school as Abel and Bramty for the rest for this year at least.
Once they were in the car Tara sighed, she wanted to figure out how Bramty was really doing but she didn't know how to go about it casually. "Hey Bramty?" the little girl looked up at her in the rereview mirror and Tara smiled. "Do you like living with your dad?"
Bramty smiled and nodded, "Yeah. I really love my dad"
"What about the clubhouse? Do you like it at the clubhouse?" Tara questioned
She watched Bramty closely for a reaction and Bramty surprised her by smiling even wider and nodding her head in agreement. "I love living at the clubhouse! It's so much fun! I really like all of the guys and I don't like the girls there but Daddy made sure they're going to be nice to me from now on"
Tara nodded, she was glad Bramty didn't seem to know what her father or the other men of the club had really encouraged happening to the 'girls' at the clubhouse. At least they had enough sense not to let a child see that.
"Why don't you want to live at the clubhouse, Tara?"
The question surprised Tara but she answered nonetheless, "Because the clubhouse isn't a place little kids or women should live at. It's dangerous and bad things happen there that you shouldn't see" she told Bramty honestly.
Bramty shrugged, "Well I like it there and I like being with my daddy the most though"
Tara nodded, "Does your father-" she paused still finding it really weird to think of Happy Lowman as a father, "-does Happy ever talk to you about what happened that day when you were kidnapped?"
"Nope" Bramty shook her head but she was still smiling which Tara took as a good sign that the mentioning of it hadn't upset the girl. "I talked to them about it on the day I got back from hospital"
Tara raised a brow, "Talked to who?"
"Everyone. Juice got me candy and Clay asked me questions and I told all the guys what happened... they got the meanies already though. Daddy said the bad guys got what they deserved"
Tara couldn't help but frown at that. The guys had really asked a traumatised child about what happened when she got kidnapped right after she got back from the hospital? They were still strangers to her then and Happy had let that happen? Tara was also surprised that Happy had told Bramty the bad guys got what they deserved!
It just confirmed to her more now than ever that Bramty needed a stable home to recover in and NOT the clubhouse.
Tara sat down at the dinner table when Jax walked in the house, she knew she had to have this conversation with him before she acted on anything. She wasn't sure if he was going to be able to see this from the neutral point of view he needed to but she would try. For the sake of what was right.
This wasn't a world anyone should bring a little girl into and Tara wasn't going to just let Happy ruin Bramty's life like that. Happy doesn't have an Old Lady, when he's too busy and can't be home then Bramty will be on her own. When Happy is in jail Bramty will be on her own or maybe when Happy gets himself killed leaving Bramty on her own yet again. Any scenario Tara thinks of, it doesn't end well for Bramty.
"Hey babe" Jax kissed her as he walked in the kitchen and made himself a plate of food. Tara did the same since she Abel was already sitting there playing with the food she had made him. The boy never could just eat his food without making a mess!
"Can I talk to you about something?" she sighed and Jax frowned a little but nodded seeing that she was being serious right now. "Look, I need you to think about this from a neutral point of view. Don't worry about your brothers feelings right now because in reality he is a grown man and he isn't the priority here"
"Ookay?" Jax nodded pausing in eating
Tara nodded, "I see this kind of thing at work. Traumatised kids either block out their feelings and it builds up over time or they suffer from them and can't move past it. Both are just as bad. Actually, I think blocking them out is worse because children are too young to fully understand bad things people do and so without talking about it they never deal with it... it leads to them getting depressed or in trouble later in life"
"This is about Bramty and Happy then" Jax said on a sigh and she nodded watching him rest his elbows on the table. "What are you trying to say here Tara?"
"I'm trying to say that as much as Happy... and everyone else... may love Bramty that living with Happy right now isn't good for her. The girl needs to learn stability, she has been getting molested and raped for years Jax!" Tara tried breathing to calm herself down the pregnancy had her hormones going crazy.
Jax winced, "Look babe, I know that and so does Happy. He says he can deal with it and Bramty is fine... I've seen that girl laughing and smiling as she walks around the clubhouse for 2 months now. If she was getting scared or uncomfortable or acting out then maybe I'd agree with you but right now I really do think that what's best for her is to know she's loved and to know she has a family looking out for he now"
Tara sighed, she had been worried Jax would start turning this into his 'family fixes everything' speech that everyone at SAMCRO seems to believe so much. Growing up around the club Tara knew that it was true, in some situations, but there are things that having family around just can't fix. As much as she loves the club like family it frustrated her that none of them could see things from some else's point of view.
Happy is a killer for god sake!
"Jax" Tara sighed irritated, "Listen to me. Bramty needs normalcy. I am not saying she needs to be taken far away from Hap or the club, what I am saying though is that living at the clubhouse is not going to be good for her. There are things that happen she doesn't need to see"
"Like what Tara? Her mom worked at a strip club! That girl practically grew up in one big SAMCRO party" Jax argued, "Happy has been taking her up to see his mom after Church. Gemma took Bramty home one night when we ad a party to give Hap a break. Bramty went to Donna's for a night and there were a few more times that Bramty just watched cartoons and went to bed"
They sat in silence eating as they both thought over what had been said so far.
Tara had to admit she was a little surprised that Happy had made an effort to keep Bramty away from the parties but it wasn't enough in her opinion. Sure it showed that the man loved the girl but it didn't make what Tara was saying any less true; the clubhouse was no place for a child, least of all a little girl.
"I never said Happy didn't love Bramty or that he wouldn't take care of her, Jax" Tara spoke quietly breaking the silence.
"I know, I know" Jax relented calmly
"All I was saying is that the clubhouse isn't a place for a little girl to be... especially not one with her type of unresolved trauma. At the very least she needs some kind of therapy not just Clay questioning her on what happened" Tara mumbled the last part
Jax quirked a brow, "If that girl is as much like Hap as I think she is, then she doesn't want to talk about what happened. Not with you or me or Clay and NOT with a shrink... look babe, I know you are just trying to help but Bramty is Happy's kid and it's not our business"
Knowing Jax was right about that last part Tara nodded, it didn't mean she was going to do nothing but she hadn't decided yet on what she would do. Nobody can force the girl to talk if she doesn't want to and that would only make it worse but Tara was scared Happy would fuck the kid up even more.
Letting the conversation drop for now Tara continued eating and kissed Jax letting him know they were fine even if they didn't agree on this completely.
Tara was just going to have to figure something out on her own.
