A/N: This story was inspired by a thought I had while listening to Primadonna by Marina and the Diamonds, the song mentioned in this story. I thought about Brain, humming along to this song while he worked up the courage to confess to Pinky. I really wanted to share my idea, and thanks to encouragement from the friendly people on the Brinky Community Discord server, I decided to write this story! So, I have them to thank for inspiring me to put my thoughts into words in the form of a story. Thank you all so much! Hope you enjoy!

"You can do this, Brain.. It's simple, really.. You just walk up to Pinky, and ask him if he wants.. to...Oh, who am I kidding, he wouldn't feel the same! He loves everyone and everything, but there's no way he'd feel that way about me.."

Brain played with the rose in his hands, arguing with himself about the validity of his feelings, as he tried to determine the best course of action for him and his recently emerging romantic feelings for his cagemate and companion, Pinky.

"He's never shown any interest before, has he? Well..there was that time at Christmas.. and the time with Mr. Itch, where he gave his soul up so I could have the world..But, does he really feel that way? No..he couldn't possibly.."

Brain's thoughts were interrupted when he suddenly realized Pinky was singing inside the room Brain had been standing outside of. He stopped to listen, and heard his companion's voice, singing along to a familiar song.

"Wait a moment.. I've heard this song before.." Brain remarked to himself.

Brain continued listening, and realized he did indeed know the song. The song was Primadonna, by Marina and the Diamonds, a song Pinky introduced him to. Brain pondered for a moment, before deciding to join in, as he leaned against the side of the wall.

He simply hummed along at first, but then, upon realizing he still remembered the lyrics, he began to quietly sing to himself.

As he sang, Brain thought about the lyrics for a moment, and pondered why exactly Pinky would be singing it. But then, that thought was quickly interrupted by the next few lyrics coming from the speaker, with Pinky's voice echoing it.

When the lyrics mentioned getting down on one knee and "popping the question," it became clear to Brain that this part of the song was obviously referring to a marriage proposal. Brain came to the conclusion that Pinky must be anticipating a proposal from someone, as the song expressed a desire for such an event.

"It's probably his girlfriend, Pharfignewton.." Brain decided. "But then again, why would he be waiting for her to propose? That's traditionally considered the male's responsibility.." Brain shrugged aside the possible discrepancy and continued to sing along to himself.

These next lyrics mentioned having a large ego, which seemed odd to Brain, but before he could even begin to ponder any further, he heard Pinky speak from the other room.

"Hahaha..He does, doesn't he? Narf!"

"He..?" Brain pondered, wondering why his companion was referring to a male in such a way, especially considering the context of the previous lyrics. "Who could he possibly be talking about?" Brain asked himself.

As per usual, the next set of lyrics only caused Brain to get more and more confused. He began to worry that Pinky may have a new partner he was infatuated with, and Brain began to fear he may lose his chance at winning over his dear Pinky once again. "I can't let it happen again.. I won't sit idly by this time." Brain said, unaware his voice was louder than he had intended.

As he became lost in his own thoughts, Brain didn't notice the song had stopped, at least, not until Pinky's voice startled him out of his ponderings.

"Hi, Brain! Whatcha doin' out here? Narf!"

"Ah, P-Pinky, I was just.. uh.." Brain stuttered.

"You weren't smoking again, were you?" Pinky asked, a tinge of anger in his voice.

"No, of course not, Pinky. We've been over this. I overcame my addiction weeks ago." Brain replied, feeling slightly guilty Pinky still had to worry about such a thing.

"Okay, good! I just wanted to make sure. Poit! Sooo.. what are you doing out here, Brain?" Pinky asked innocently.

"I was just..uh.." Brain struggled to find his words, a blush creeping onto his face. He felt that it would have been much easier to explain himself out of the situation if he had been smoking.

"You were 'just uh' what?" Pinky asked again, repeating Brain's stutter.

"I was..um..Uh.." The small blush on his cheeks grew, and Brain feared he wouldn't be able to hide his feelings for much longer.

"Egad, Brain, you're as red as a tomato-y thingy!" Pinky said. "It's so cute! W-well, I mean.. cute, as in.. Troz..Um..Sorry! I lost my words for a second there, Brain."

"It's a miracle they haven't escaped you entirely, Pinky." Brain found himself saying, regaining his composure somewhat. "Erm..As I was saying, I.. wait a moment. Did you just call me..cute?"

"Oh dear, I did, didn't I? I'm sorry, Brain, I wasn't thinking!" Pinky apologized profusely, blushing intensely, completely unaware of how flustered Brain had become.

"Oh. Er.. It's.. quite alright, Pinky.." Brain said, a bit disappointed that for once, Pinky didn't say what was on his mind, or, at least, he didn't mean to.

"As for me, I was just.. Well, I happened to be walking by, and I heard you singing, and.." Brain continued, neglecting to mention that he didn't just happen to be there, he had been purposely waiting outside the door prior to hearing Pinky sing.

"O-oh.. Well..d-did you like it? My singing, I mean..Poit.." Pinky seemed flustered, but Brain was unsure of exactly why.

After pondering for a moment more, Brain thought of something to say.

"Yes, well, I quite enjoyed your singing..however, there is something else I wanted to tell you." It wasn't until after he spoke, however, that Brain remembered his nagging fear that Pinky had someone else to be thinking about.

"What is it, Brain? Troz!" Pinky's cheerful disposition did nothing to soothe Brain's nerves, nor his rapidly increasing heartbeat. He knew there was no time to spare, so he tried to carry on the best he could.

"I..Well, that is to say.. Erm..Let's just get to the point, shall we?"

Brain was tired of dodging questions, and he knew if he was going to come clean, this would have to be the time. He had Pinky right where he wanted him, and Pinky was eagerly waiting for his response. He needed to say something, anything, and for once in this conversation, he actually knew exactly what to say.

"Pinky, I.. I must ask you a question..

If you could choose one person to spend the rest of your days with, who would it be?"

"Hmm..." Pinky thought for a moment, his hand on his chin, although Brain knew that if his hunch was correct, he wouldn't have to wait long for a response.

"Why, It's you, Brain! You're who I'd like to spend the rest of my daisies with! Zort!"

"Days, Pinky, not daisies. A-And besides, are you sure? What could I possibly offer you that would make me better than any other choice you could make?" Brain replied, shocked by Pinky's eager response, which was not at all what he had expected. Pinky had chose him.

"Well.. We already have a fun fun silly-willy time every night trying to take over the world, so why would I want anything else?" Pinky gave a soft smile, a pink blush spreading across his cheeks.

This was not the answer Brain had been expecting. It was better, arguably more so! This was the best possible response Brain could ever have anticipated! But, somehow, he still shuddered at the thought. Something in him screamed at the thought of Pinky choosing him over anybody else. Brain longed for this, oh, how he longed for this, but deep down, he felt more fear than he ever felt before. There was no way this was real, no way Pinky would ever feel the same. But, there was only one way to know for sure. Plus, he hadn't even asked his most important question yet.

"Yes.. Well, I have one more question for you, Pinky."

"What's that, Brain? Poit!"

Brain felt his heart race faster and faster by the second, his mind fogged by intense rushes of emotion. He knew if he was going to say it, he would have to do it as soon as possible.

He cleared his throat with a small cough, and began to speak.

"Pinky.." Brain began, "would you..like to spend the rest of your life with me, erm, permanently? W-what I mean to say is.. Pinky.. " Brain revealed the pink rose from behind his back, and offered it to his tall companion.

"Pinky..would you be my..l-lover?" Brain felt as if he would shatter at any moment, but, he did feel a slight bit of relief that he had finally gotten the words out.

Pinky's blue eyes began to wet with tears, alarming Brain immediately.

"Oh.. No, no, Pinky, please don't cry! I didn't mean to-" Brain dropped the rose, rushing to try and comfort his companion. But before he could, Pinky spoke again.

"No, Brain..These aren't sad-sad unhappy tears.."

"T-they're not?" was all Brain managed to say.

Pinky let out a small chuckle before lowering himself down to Brain's height, kneeling before him.

"No, of course not, Brain! These are happy, lovey-dovey tears! Poit!"

Before Brain even had a chance to respond, Pinky's lips were suddenly on his own. Pinky was kissing him! The kiss only lasted for a moment, but to Brain, it felt like a lifetime had passed before Pinky finally pulled away. Pinky remained before him, his face only a short distance from Brain's own, which only served to increase the flush spreading across his cheeks.

"Brain.." Pinky spoke again, "You have no idea how long I've been waiting to hear you say those words.."

"Pinky, I-" Brain started, but was cut off by a finger placed to his lips.

"Shh, Brain. Wait a minute. " Pinky said.

Reluctantly, Brain nodded, and remained quiet to let Pinky speak.

"Brain," Pinky continued, "when I said I wanted to spend the rest of my daisies with you, I meant it. I've been waiting for the longest-est time for you to say you wanted me, and now that you finally have, I'm not going to waste another second! Brain, I love you! I really, really, love you! Narf!" Pinky was positively beaming.

Pinky nuzzled his face into Brain's neck, causing Brain's blush to grow even brighter.

Wrapping his arms around Pinky's neck, Brain whispered into the ear of his companion-now lover-and said the one thing he'd been longing to say the most.

"Pinky..I..I love you too. "

However, there was still something nagging on Brain's mind.

"But, can you promise me one thing?" Brain continued.

"What's that, Brain?" Worry began to spread across Pinky's face.

"Please don't ever leave my side." Brain asked, terrified of the possibility of a future without Pinky by his side, should they ever have a falling out.

It didn't take long for Pinky to respond.

"I won't, never ever, Brain, as long as you don't either." Pinky, keeping his head rested on Brain's neck, turned his head to look at his lover, whose pink eyes seemed to reflect the genuine smile plastered on his face.

There was nothing in the world either of these mice wanted more than each other, and as it turned out, Brain's fears that Pinky wouldn't reciprocate were unfounded. It would soon come to Brain's knowledge that the only 'someone' Pinky had on his mind was him, even through his other relationships, including his relationship with Pharfignewton.

As it turned out, the reason Pinky had played the song in the first place, was with the hope that it would catch Brain's attention. He thought that if Brain did feel the same way, the lyrics would definitely cause suspicion for Brain, which was indeed the case. After the fact, the two lovers came to treasure the song, and would play it whenever they wanted a reminder of their love for each other.
